Hi Jason. Thats a lot of ground you covered. You had a nice spot to set up the lanshan. Its still fairly chilly at night 🥶. An enjoyable watch 🙂. All the best 👍
Isn't it amazing how your and my great great grandfather's build those granite stone fence walls, Castle, roads and house's stacking for years. Kinda like the Aztec stone builders of Peru, Chile and Mexico. Look at the 17 min mark with the cut granite pieces of different sizes.
All is well, will have a week off work soon, so if I can get the arse in gear, I hope to be in Wicklow for a hike and if lucky a camp. Will be my second venture, I usually find it challenging to get out, have been trying to motivate myself and look forward to it.
@alanrobertson5497 Hopefully, the weather goes easy on you for your camp. Every single time it comes time for me to go for a camp I struggle to get myself out. Everytime, even if I've been looking forward to it all week. When the time comes it can be very hard to get going, so you are not alone. Sciatica is horrendous, I hope it doesn't give you any more grief. I'm doing yoga and strength training every day to try keep myself going. It's good that you have it back to normal now, hopefully it stays that way. DDP Yoga is great for back pain but you'd have to do it consistently for a good few weeks to start seeing the difference
That looks like the hike I tried a while back and gave up due to the weather at the base of Bearnagh. Good to see the views I missed. Fair play though as it's not easy, especially that climb up Bearnagh! You've given me a hunger to go back for another go 😊
Lovely to see the Mournes looking so good Jason! Looked like a bit of a wild night and definitely nicer to have been on lower ground 🤗 Those mountains make you work! Hope the knee is doing ok too!! 🤞
Great video Jason thanks for sharing such an amazing view👍 Looked very cold again and glad you got a brew on after all. Hope you and the family are keeping well. I get a bit anxious seeing you slip sliding on the rocks so take it easy mate and make sure you are within signal range too 🤗👍
I'm very close to carrying a full winter setup 😄 we're all good, I do get worried about a sudden slip while I'm out. My back feels really good now, working on it every day. I hope all is well with you and the family, I do see your posts pop up on instagram 🍀
I have questions about the rock wall. Is this private land? If so, are landowners generous about letting the public hike and camp on the property? Or is it government owned? And how interesting to see those stairs that help access the other side of the wall. I’ve only seen that in Europe! American landowners don’t typically appreciate trespassing. Sorry for so many questions.
The wall is called the Mourne wall and it is in the Mourne mountains in Northern Ireland. I don't know a whole lot about it to be honest. I believe it was some kind of boundary wall and is now a protected structure. It's really cool. Wild Camping in Ireland and the UK is not legal but it is tolerated by the landowners and access is given by their hood will. The only real place it is legal to camp is in Scotland where they have the right to roam. The stairs we call stiles and they're very handy 🙂
Fairplay Jason another great video view's all day in the mournes when the weather is good I'm just across the water near the cooley mountains and have a great view over to the mournes you should have called in for a cuppa on your way up , ATB 👏👍
Lovely video. Always great to see my local mountains from a different POV. That place (Hare's Gap) is a bit of a wind tunnel. I have Lanshan 1 (non-pro) and am thinking about getting an XMID 1 Solid. How do you feel they compare in terms of wind sturdiness? The Lanshan sheds wind well but it requires enormous stakes to keep the inner and outer tort.
It served me well on the night but I can imagine it is a windy little spot. The lanshan 1's are brilliant in the wind. I reckon it relays on the pegs a lot more than the Durston would. The Durston is good in the wind, I haven't had any issues yet but I always make sure to stake out all the guylines and I use decent pegs too just to be sure. I do have some camping videos of it in some strong wind. There are some downsides compared to the lanshan, the main one being it's got a pretty big footprint. I'd say it's as big as a 2 man tent but then you have some really nice headroom inside and the two vestibules. Beautiful looking tent too. I doubt you'll be disappointed with it if you do decide to try one
Another great video Jason. Great to see the Lanshan getting a run-out. It’s a beast on exposed ground like that. I treated myself to an x-mid 1 last year but on my last two camps I brought the Lanshan 1 instead because i *know* it handles the wind. Btw, are they RevRace trousers?
The little lanshan is a great tent in the wind, I've found myself xhosing it over the xmid once or twice too. The trousers are helikon tex pilgrim I think is the model 👌 they're a tad heavy for summer hiking but very well made
@PINACI I always have ear plugs with me but sometimes they're just not enough. I'd have to have proper noise cancelling ear defenders. They'd probably weigh more than the tent 😅
Brilliant Jason. Great to see you in the Mournes. That must have been some good miles you hiked there, up and down the meels. We done our first camp where you camped there last year. Slieve Bearnagh can be a right pain in the backside to climb. Im hoping to get a summit camp on Bearnagh before the end of the year but if it’s windy at all I’ll drop down, like you say it wouldn’t be worth it. All the best Geoff 👍
It was a lovely little spot to be fair, definitely happy that I decided to drop down. Hopefully your Bearnagh camp goes well and the weather is good to you 🤞🍀

The pillow that I've been using for the last few months is the flextail zero pillow. It's a really good size, the pad strap is really strong and holds well. I think it's a very good pillow, better than the trekology aluft that I also have. I recently bought the Soto windmaster stove, it is definitely the best stove that I have tried. The burner is massive, the simmer control is spot on and the pot support is huge. It also has a built in regulator which is fantastic. I bought the triflex attachment too just for a lighter setup when I want that option. I'll be using that as my main stove I reckon especially in the winter.
