  • In this video, I detail the upgrades that I've done to one of my G2c pistols, compare wear patterns on a 1100 round G2c to a unused G2c, go over the details of the way that I built my 20 round magazines, discuss in detail how I chose to carry this gun and share my overall general thoughts on this firearm.

Damn AJ, this video is fucking great. I love your extra work looking at the ammo after misfires, showing similarities/diff in G2C vs glock striker system, and extra photos. I'm wanting to carry appendix also and have been a little queasy, and I love how you shared your double action first shot trick. You seem extremely intelligent and I appreciate the time you put into this video.

Really detailed and well done videos by A.J. C.
I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but got to the same point with my G2 about a year and a half ago, except I didn't change the trigger or sights, and I got a DELTAC Extended Slide Lock Lever.
I had no problems with the gun using either the 10 or the 20 round magazines.
So I bought a G2C and set it up like the G2, and first time to the range, the problems began with the 20 round clips stovepiping in first, the G2C.
Went home and thoroughly cleaned both guns and even lubricated the magazines, and was rewarded for my efforts with both guns jamming with the 20 round clips next trip to the range. Both guns still worked fine with the 10 round clips.
Both Taurus and MekGar went into denial mode: the former saying they did not warranty the gun when used with third party mags, and the latter saying they publish a disclaimer that the 20 round magazine is not intended for use with Taurus.
So I contacted Wollf and the springs are backordered til mid January. ( I own 5 of those Mekgar 20 round magazines, because they had always been 100% reliable up until that day I took my new G2C out the first time.)
I'm looking forward to swapping the springs and see if it helps.
In late November, the rear sight escaped from the G2 along with the screw. I found the rear sight chewed up on the ground, but of course not the tiny screw.
I'm still waiting for Taurus to send me the new rear sight and screw. Been waiting many
    many weeks.
Both guns continue to fire reliably with the 10 round Taurus mags, but I really liked the concept of 20 rounds in small format economical 9mm.
I tried a bunch of holsters, and settled on a pair of "BB Make" (LH & RH), and a pair of "We
The People" (LH & RH). BTW, I had to modify the BB
Make a little because the holster interfered with the magazine eject button.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The trigger is now super smooth and I know when it's going to break. I had 1 failure to load the first day and nothing since. After the first 800 rounds it became my every day carry for summer. My first gun was a Glock 19 and 30 days later the Taurus 709 Slim. Over 2 1/2 years both guns demonstrated the same reliability, 4,000 rounds on Glock and 5,600 rounds on Taurus, without any failures. The difference was accuracy, where the Glock was better. I've recently replaced the 709 with the Glock 43X, giving reliability & accuracy in 1,500 failure free rounds. I purchased a Taurus 738 TCP in the first year, but eventually gave up on it as not being reliable and not fun to shoot. The pleasant surprise was my Taurus Spectrum purchased 18 months ago. With excellent recoil management, it is fun to shoot every week, along with Glock. It's very accurate under 10 yards. I have over 2,500 failure free rounds with it, with all kinds of ammo. I've only seen issues with cheap ammo that didn't fire on first strike, but always on restrike. It has been my EDC of choice for well over a year.

As far as the trigger goes I'm okay with the stock trigger for now. I've watched videos on replacing it looks rather involved. I do have to wear an undershirt due to the abrasiveness of the grip but as a large due I can get sweaty palms and the gip never slips at all. Love it. If my wife was not so obsessed with the S&W .380 Ez I would buy her one!

@EyesInTheDark1 She just does not like the 9mm. She has tried all kinds and just loves the .380. She does not shoot as much as me. She shoots enough to be responsible but not like someone that just loves the sport. Its fun for her but there are other things she enjoys doing more. I would rather give her something she is comfortable with than force something for the sake of money. If she is more comfortable and feels more safe with it, it is worth the cost.

Awesome Video! Outstanding presentation on the G2C and I agree 100% with your Finding and what you did with the G2c I did that same to both the G2c and G2s that I purchased this past Black Friday after reading and seeing a lot of videos with great words on this new pistols. I have not added an extended magazine. I added all the Lakeline llc parts before I took my pistols out to the range for the first time as well and waited for the trigger upgrade until after the first range trip. My G2c the trigger safety was sticking about every other trigger pull which got very annoying and DANGEROUS in a Self Defense Situation because the trigger would not move back no matter where I put my finger on the trigger when I swapped out the trigger the plastic was not cut out and had a small piece that jamming it. The G2s worked fine but it also go the DA/SA trigger just like the G2c. The one thing that I added that you did not talk about was the Talon Grip with added a Rubberized Grip tape around the grip of the pistol that added an extra millimeter and gave me a better purchase on the pistol I have big hands I normally wear 2XL gloves but the Talon helped the me with the grip I usually add Talon Grips to all my sidearms since they are great piece of kit and work great. I also Added TruGlo Night SIght Pro on both the G2c and G2s since I like the Tritium.
FYI: The Only Weapon Light that works with the G2 series is the Olight PL-MINI 2 Valkyrie and starting at midnight tonight it's going to be 2 of them a Tan and a Black for 107.94 that is 40% off normal price! THey are Great lights 600 lumens and they are rechargeable unit so no batteries needed and I have had mine since January and they work GREAT just like all the other Olights lights!

As far as the light, I’ve seen a couple videos showing that the streamlight TRL6 for the “railed Glock” fits the G2c. I haven’t tried it but it looks awesome and I think you pick one of those up for around $80.

@@ajcj1970 The Trigger safety was a stubborn but I love the "I like to tinker trigger". The way that you load your pistol is an interesting way am used to carrying a 1911 so turning off the safety as I pull the pistol out of the holster is now second nature to me. I normally carry the G2c in light shorts and tshirt and it works well or as a backup small of the back.

Thanks for following up. I am waiting for the new springs and what weather to warm up before retrying. It's 53 and breezy today.
    (LOL)
The pistols fire reliably with the 10 round magazines, so with a pair of them I feel I can adequately protect the family.
But I still intend to stay with the project since my problem appears to be an anomaly I have several hundred dollars in these Taurus' and I can't quite afford a pair of Sigs.
When the springs are installed, I'll try out and keep track of at what point in the stack the jams occur across the several magazines (4-10rd, 5 20rd) and two pistols.
(As I mentioned there were no jams with the Taurus clips last time I was at the range).
If I do not keep the pistols clean and lubricated they both load jam and all bets are off.
After the session where I encountered the MekGar problems, I also polished the ramps on the barrels to a mirror finish with rouge and my Dremel.
I noticed the barrels in both guns move significantly when the slide is locked open, and this affects the ramp exposing more of the frame where the rounds must travel.
Assuming the problem persists. I'm hoping the springs resolve the issues.
Sorry I am so wordy, but I usually get paid by the word.

Awesome informational Review on the G2c!!! Thank you for all the concise details, recommended upgrades and accessories. Thanks for introducing me to CYA Co. I ordered my holster online today. After first hearing you mention CYA, I watched & read many reviews and even found them stocked at a local academy. I decided to order direct for the carbon fiber finish. Though I’ve been carrying alien gear holster the last year and a half I decided to give CYA a try.
I unfortunately experienced a couple of jams in the very first initial rounds of my G2c yesterday when shooting it for the first time. A lil disappointed but after going through the first magazine it did not happen again. I may eventually upgrade the rod guide and spring along with the pin guide. But I’d like to get a few more rounds through the stock model to make sure I do not get any more malfunctions.
Thanks Again for the info. Best Regards, LB

Try not to let your initial malfunctions get you too discouraged. All firearms have break in periods when malfunctions often happen (even Glock and other high dollar brands). I personally clean and lubricate my new firearms before firing. I see no benefits of shooting a firearm “right out of the box”. I’ve seen too many firearms come from the factories with all sorts of debris in them. Good luck, hope it all works out, and thanks for the comment.

I purchased a G2C, adding it to my gun stable of a Sig 1911. Glock 26, and Canick TP9DA. The G2C is a comfortable gun, if not more comfortable than the blockier G26. It is inexpensive BECAUSE of some rough edges, so to speak. I glad to see some aftermarket companies stepping up with some great upgrades. This little gun really does compete in the Glock subcompact area, with the only real "downside" being the trigger. It FEELS clunky, long, and unpolished. A complete polish job will do wonders, however. Take the time to carefully debur, sand, and polish the parts, and you will be rewarded with a much smoother action. Taurus really has come a long ways, and I expect good things to come!!

That’s weird that the 15 round magazines work but the 18 round magazines don’t. During my research I did happen upon a video of someone mounting a TRL6 on a G2c and it looked like it fit perfectly. I believe they market that to fit “any railed Glock”.

I would also suggest that your carry round NOT be +P rated, it will keep the wear on your fire warm to a minimum. I personally run a 147 grain Golden Sabre bonded hollow point round. When you replace the plastic striker guide with a stainless steel guide from Lakeline LLC you also deactivate the Taurus lock system because the stainless steel striker guide does not have the circular clearance to accommodate the lock mechanism to rotate into a locked position. I was worried that the Taurus lock may engage unintentionally and render the gun unusable, so upgrading the striker guide seemed to be a good idea. But doing so also improves the trigger pull by reducing the grittiness of trigger take up. Double win!

I had no problems with G2C 9MM, it was more that Taurus only makes copies of Ruger's LCP in 380 ACP. So when I picked up a Bersa Thunder 380 plus 15+1. A Walther PPK knock off, full alloy frame & with fixed barrel. Is when I started changing my everyday carry.to metal frames. The Kel-Tec P10 is your no frills Borax model, but Sccy & Kel-Tec or different sides of the same coin. The peacock & the yard chicken. But who-ever gets my old G2C will already have all the upgrades. Thanks to Taurus not having enough insight to produce a G2C 380 ACP, or 32ACP. But Taurus if I'm not mistaken Smith & Wesson-M&P bought them Beretta, so they could open a plant in the US to compete for a military contact with the 92 platform. I also have a P Beretta in 9mm, 380ACP. 32ACP & a1954 22LR all in the 92 configuration. An hope someday to put a Soviet Bloc CZ in the gun case.

I tried the method shown in this video to load the chamber without cocking the striker (so your first round will be fired with DA trigger pull). In my G2, the round failed to fire on the first DA strike. But it fired with the 2nd DA pull. I repeated the test and the exact same thing happened : the round fired after the 2nd DA strike. I used the WWB ammo. I verified that the striker hit the primer on the first DA strike. Using a pencil in the bore (with the eraser end sitting right against the striker hole) the G2 launched the pencil on both DA and SA trigger pull. The pencil was launched almost equal distance away suggesting the striker hits the pencil with about the same force in both DA and SA strike. So I am not sure why my G2 failed to fire the round in DA mode on the 1st strike. I suspect the striker does not hit as hard in DA mode compared in SA mode. I recommend you test your gun and the specific ammo you use for carry to make sure that the gun and ammo work reliably in DA mode on the first strike.

    • @ajcj1970
      @ajcj1970  5 років тому

Every time I go to the range I test this loading method. It’s worked flawlessly for me. Maybe it’s your ammo, might be the firearm. Maybe your not loading it properly. Did you try it with your carry ammo? Everyone should test their carry ammo in their firearm (quality should be better). If it’s not working for you, I would suggest returning to the manufacturer suggested loading method.

@@ajcj1970 I did not bring my carry ammo at that time since the G2 was not my carry piece at this point. But I plan to run this test using a number of JHP samples I have. Will report the results here. I also have a replacement striker spring from Lakeline LLC. I installed it once and found it to increase the trigger pull weight compared to the factory spring. So I put the factory spring back. If Lakeline striker spring is indeed heavier I would expect it to cause the striker to hit harder in both DA and SA modes. I also have multiple G2 pistols in the family. Will run this test with different guns.

@@ajcj1970 I tested the DA mode on loaded chamber using 4 PT111 G2 with 6 different ammo (3 fmj and 3 jhp). The FMJ are WWB, Remington UMC green box, and Perfecta. The JHP are Win Personal Protection 115 gn, Remington 115 JHP, and Herter's 115 JHP.
Bottom line : the DA is unreliable in 2 out of 4 pistols with up to 40-50% failure to fire on 1st strike. The other 2 pistols fared better with 90% or better success rate. Ammo brands that failed to fire were mixed. But I noticed that the Remington 115 jhp is the most reliable with DA mode across all pistols.
I took 1 of the pistol with the most failures and replaced the striker spring with a new aftermarket spring from Lakeline LLC. This did not improve the reliability of the DA mode.
The forward sear that operates in DA mode is positioned about 1/4" forward of the rear sear that operates in SA mode. This means the striker spring is compressed more in SA mode producing greater force for the striker to hit the primer. The lower striker force in DA mode may be further dampened by extra friction experienced by the striker in the striker channel or striker guide. My.suspicion points to the striker spring cup. The shape of the outer cup is not all rounded. There arw some square-ish sections of the cup exterior that could exert additional friction which could slow down the striker just enough to cause light primer strike in DA mode. I will investigate the striker spring cup theory further.
For now I will continue to carry the G2 in cocked and locked mode.

    • @ajcj1970
      @ajcj1970  5 років тому

Nice. Thanks for the information. In my mind, I still don’t like the thought of the striker being under pressure while it’s pointed at me. Pulling the trigger twice when I unholster (which I hope I never have to) is still a better option then carrying this gun “cocked”. If I wound decide to carry in any way other then appendix, I would consider “preloading” the striker. But until I do, I’ll be sticking to my method.

They wanted me to pay 50 bucks to send back a gun with multiple manufacturing defects so they could "evaluate the alleged issues". The gun was a lemon and needed to be replaced, not repaired. If I had thought that Taurus would do the right thing I would have spent the $50 to send it back but, after the conversation I had with their rep, I didn't have much faith in them. I gave the gun to a friend and told him that he could deal with them if he felt like it. I'm not sure if he ever sent it to them. I bought it as a cheap plinker with no intention of carrying it or depending on it in any way so it wasn't that big of a deal but it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.
