- The Game Boy Advance is one of the best Nintendo systems of all time. I mean, it's basically a portable Super Nintendo! So many great games (And a few not so great) were released, even well after the launch of NIntendo DS, Nintendo was still making games on GBA. Here's a look at several.

These Game Boy Color games were released AFTER GBA was launched.
Hey, would you mind listing the games you talk about in the video description? It would make it easier for those of us starting a collection.
As much as I Ioved the DS, the GBA got killed way too soon. I spent a lot of time riding the bus to and from work with my GBA SP. Really feel like the biggest missed opportunity for the system was not having one more 2D, sprited based SMB game on it instead of just porting old Mario games.
Fun Fact: The Samurai Deeper Kyo game was only released in a DVD Bundle with the Complete Series, and was originally cancelled for US release prior to the Bundle releasing. That is the only reason it released so late, and is also the reason why it was the last GBA game released. I remember my friend finding the bundle in 2008 at a Circuit City, a few months before they closed, and he still owns the DVD set I think, though he sold the game a long time ago.
Wow i never knew that fact!
GBA is not simply just a pocket sized Super Nintendo it's actually much more powerful.
Perhaps a more precise statement would be a weaker PS1, as the gba is a 32bit console.
The GBA did not have the memory bandwidth or the music sonic power of the SNES. The SNES was an advanced Apple IIGS and is still state of the art. I love how none Computer scientists know nothing but talk as you do. I work in Hollywood and we still use super Apple IIgs systems for CGI, we made the Train scene in Indy 5 on one. Learn to code pal.
With a terrible screen
Quite powerful but lower resolution than the snes.
It was able to do some impressive graphics. That being even if the sound was a bit weak to an extent, but still not bad for a handheld console at the time though.
some of the best and most optimized games for the GBA came out later in its life cycle. the gba is my go to for emulation. it runs perfectly on android.
Blades of Thunder, Sega's Thunderblade, classic arcade game John, that's why it should sound familiar
8:01 That GunStar SuperHeroes is my personal favorite ❤❤❤
It's interesting how the GBA didn't immediately die off when the DS came out in late 2004.
Most consoles die in around a year after their successor is released.
Nintendo is famous for doing this. They bring the the console, and keep supporting the previous one for a time, marketing as the cheaper alternative
That's not true. The last XBOX360 physical releases were Fifa 19, Just Dance 2019, and a few random downloadable indie games in 2019. SIX YEARS after the Xbox One was released. Playstation consoles always get smaller cost-reduced redesigns after their successor is released and they stick around awhile. Fifa 05 was released on PS1. Fifa 14 and PES2014 made it to PS2. These are all over five years after the successor console came out. The norm certainly isn't discontinuation just one year after the successor comes out. Especially considering that the older consoles get cheaper.
my comment is not related to this video, but wanted to drop it somewhere. i finally got around to picking up joust for the atari as you have mentioned it before and i never played it as a kid. now, my own kids have been loving it! thanks a ton John Riggs!!! keep being you!!!
I definitely think Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones was one of the GBAs after the Nintendo DS launched. Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is one of my favorite GBA games.
Same
Summon Night Swordcraft Story is one of my ALL-TIME favorite games on the GBA! There was a sequel that was also released on the GBA that was even more epic! I really recommend you to try it out if you haven't.
Gameboy Advance is still brilliant today. 😀👍🎮
I only had 1 gameboy advance game and I didn't even have a gameboy advance, just the thing that slapped on the bottom of the gamecube that you could play gameboy games on. The game I had was Road Rash, maybe it was called "Road Rash Advance" I don't remember.
Here's a few Gameboy Advance games that have been translated into English
Mother 3 which is Earthbound part 2, Tomato Adventure, Crash Nitro Kart and Klona Heroes densetsu no star medal, Dragon Quest Monsters Caravan Heart
You should do a Video showcasing a bunch of GameCube Games that were released after the Wii launched
It's mostly sports and licensed games
2:42 I remember those toy commercials like yesterday. “Wanna be the man? B-DAMAN!”
2006 was when I got Final Fantasy 12, Final Fantasy 3 DS, *and* Final Fantasy 5 Advance for Christmas!
Loved that Popeye game as a kid, wish it got a re release honestly.
Or a remake maybe, lol.
This is a great episode John! It gives me ideas on what to buy 😂👍
The gba in terms of power was like a portable 3do, since both systems use ARM processors at simular clock speeds with the ability to do 3d better than 16 systems but not as good as 5th generation systems (need for speed on 3do and smashing drive for gba are good 3d games to show their capabilities)
Hey! You missed TMNT, based on the 2007 CGI movie! That was a great beatemup!
When I found out how to put GBA and original DS games on my 3DS, my life became complete. Three consoles in one. Yes please.
Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage and Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy came out 5 months before the Nintendo DS was launched and it was set to be released in June 3 2004.
My favorite series of yours is back!
The Battle Network games were my jam. So happy to have the collection on my Switch
I remember getting Team Protoman when I was in elementary school. That whole game series is hecka nostalgic. I didn’t realise it was a late release.
Racing Gears Advance and Minish Cap came out on the GBA super late, they were 2 of the first games I played in my imported Japanese DS
That Dragon Ball game you said in the early part of the vid is one of the best games period 🙏🏽
When will people give Love to the TMNT GBA game. It also came out after the DS launched and is better than every game on this list
My GBA lives right. Next to me always. ❤
Just a little idea. "and it's on switch online too" when available...
That Kyo game was made by an Italian game developer and it is very impressive to see, a good game to close the gba on
A couple of points: 1. Yu-Gi-Oh World Championship 2005 is worth talking about and was the game I was most excited to see, but you skipped it without giving any reason. 2. Nightmare Before Christmas: The Pumpkin King is a pretty decent Metroidvania. You kind of sold both of these games short.
Mario Tennis Power Tour is another game that was released after the DS was released.
oh i love gunstar heroes !! so addictive and fun !
I played about half of Summon Night Swordcraft Story, and lemme tell ya - You will be crafting swords. It's not a major pain in the ass or anything, but if you wanna get deeper into the dungeon, ya gonna need to craft some sword.
It's fun as heck tho!
I have a game boy advance sp i,ll have to check out some of these games!
The SP was great. Still have mine, and a ton of games.
I lik the idea of nintendo but the sheer amount of shovelware that appears on their consoles kills them for me. The early 00's I was in my 20's, living in shared digs and earning money so I was loaded so it was a golden age of video game buying, adding that they were cheaper than they used to be as well.
I had a game gear and I had a GBC so I liked hand helds but stood at the rack looking at GBA SP's on their release and seeing that every single game in stock wa film or cartoon license or Mario being shoehorned into something generic I just didn't bother.
Awesome Vid
Oh wow Summon Knight reminds me alot of Tales of Destiny which is one of my favorite games. Ill have to check that out
Battle Network sold more than OG Megaman did, so I think that was why they didn't put money into OG Megaman- they considered it a spent IP.
But if you wanted a game more in the style of OG Megaman... Megaman Zero? Game 4 in that series came out the year after the DS dropped, 2005.
I need to try out more gba games!
Going to get kyo,my cup of tea.
There's still time to watch Dragonball.
downhill jam was disappointing because folks had already seen the isometric tony hawk offerings on the GBA.
Please do a SFC games released after N64, I'm sure there must be some good in there, I hear the Nintendo 16-bit era lasted a bit longer in Japan than it did here
Sure did, the SFC finally stopped being supported in something like 2004 over there
Are you going to do one for Genesis after the Saturn next?
Thought of it.
@@JohnRiggs indeed
I know the DS is amazing!
But some of my favorite gaming moments came from the Gameboy Advance! There’s too many great games on there! Even the shovelware library on the GBA was better than Wii shovelware!
i loved te SP, i hated game boy color and game boy advance because it was next to impossible to see without a back light !!!
but my SP was much loved and got played daily almost !
love the tak games, the ct special forces 1 and 2, all the nes classics, both metroid games, mega-man, prehistorik man, jimmy neutron, Ty tiger, wario 4, metal slug advance, turok, kirby games, evolution, mario bros games, so many more to name haha.
Samurai Deeper looks good.
GBA Time With The Great John Riggs Decades Of Proven Knowledge Experience And Excellence
No MegaMan Battle Network 6?
Megaman Zero?
You're literally complaining there's "nO mEgAmaN gAme fOr gBa" and you didn't mention MegaMan Zero?
Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure is a decent platformer and probably the best Dragon Ball game on GBA. It has great graphics, smooth animation, great gameplay and it captures your nostalgia for kid Goku. I am surprised not many people talk about it and usually the highlight is always Legacy of Goku which wasn't even that good of a game.
thank you, yes! the mega man battle network series was just ok. i played three of them back in the day and thought they were supremely mid. it was a chaser for our hopes of cybernetic utopia
My fave games were Yugioh Eternal Duelist Soul, Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones, and i also enjoyed advanced warfare a whole lot as well. GBA was my favorite growinf ip ❤
I'm a retro guy,
(so your switch game release analogy didn't really do it for me) 🤣
The Disney game are really solid
GBA > DS. The last system to make great games with sprites only. IMO the good games (which there are many) on GBA hold up great to this day, far better than the garbage 3D the og DS was trying to pull off.
Yeah the gimmick of the stylus wears off really fast. People just want to play games with buttons at the end of the day lol.
These games look awesome
Not the batman one
My favorite late stage GBA game has to be the original Japan-only Rhythm Heaven. I've played through it both without and with the fan translation and it's really fun.
Agreed! I love the Rhythm Paradise games! :D
GBA popeye, is significantly better than Popeye for the Switch
New gba game just got announced!!!
I'm gonna be "that guy" and admit that I was more into Dragon Ball than DBZ, I guess the whole "power levels" thing and less emphasis on humor was a turn off for me, so yeah, you won't see me watching Dragon Ball Z Kai because I enjoy the filler lol
How in the world did you skip Pokémon Emerald? It came out in 2005 and Pokémon is literally the biggest franchise on the planet....
Alice in Wonderland Adventures in Wonderland? *plug*
the dk game seems a bit like "clu clu land"
good :)
like Smash bros? 🤔
3:07 Again you misinformed us.
Naruto Ninja council 2 is not a 2d fighting game. It's a platformer with fighting elements. Play the damn game before acting like you're an expert.
SP is better than the OG Advance any way.
Needed 🎧 Jack tho
@@legendsflashback true. But as far as portability, screen protection, having a lit screen etc the SP takes the cake.
@@asa-punkatsouthvinland7145 agreed
I actually prefer the OG Advance at least the way it feels in your hands, especially the L and R buttons. but the back lit sp with it's clam shell design makes it a bettter handheld overall.
@@kylem1112 personally I have small hands for my size so the SP never felt small for me, but I can certainly understand how the original design could feel better.
Although I feel having a backlight & screen cover to prevent scratches would certainly have made the original much better.
Regardless the Advance is a great system! Even if it didn't get as much attention as it should have.
Can’t do crash purple without Spyro orange. Should have included that one too. They were like buddy releases since they came out at the same time
👍
No love for Yugioh. 😐
Why did the graphics in this era look so poor? A lot of the sprite work seems vastly inferior to the earlier 16-bit days.
The snes actually has a better resolution than the gba and the Genesis better than the snes so yea thats part of the blame.
Ausitm
Rigged
You forgot those need for speed games and fifa games and many others,
Becides i don’t care about any of those games, they feel more aftertout cash grabbing games.
battle bee demmon LOL
