Bump 'n' Jump and I loved it so much. I lost it in a fire many years ago but a buddy gave me his copy and I struggle between playing it or keeping it in a safe lol.
It's awesome! One of my favorites when I was a kid! I feel like it was ahead of its time! It's very short but, it's fun to play over and over! I totally recommend it!
Seeing Snesdrunk and John Riggs interact is like in the 90s when Kevin Nash and HBK Shawn Michaels shouted each other out on Nitro and Raw respectively. Now I just need Riggs to throw up the wolf pack symbol on his next video and say "right back atcha Snezzzdrunk!" But Snezzzdrunk doesn't see it because he's doing an injury angle with Bret Hart on Raw. *sigh* I miss the 90s
This is hilarious, just saw John Riggs at PRGE, and the number 1 game I was debating on buying for myself while I was there was Rescue: The Embassy Mission. The number 2 game was Golgo 13! Played both as a kid at my cousins' house, loved the variety of gameplay modes in each. Ultimately I spent so much on other merch at the expo that I decided not to buy either (especially since I don't currently have an NES and the prices for those games have been low for a long time). Wish I'd known you two were gonna talk about them right after, now the prices are probably gonna go up!
Another great video, John! You are one of my favorite UA-cam gamers, and your frank, down-to-earth delivery is always appreciated. This video brought back many good memories of making my own NES purchases/trades as a kid. I got Iron Sword from FuncoLand catalog in high school, after renting it several years prior. Marble Madness was acquired in a trade from a friend. I also remember taking some old NES games to a pawn shop and trading them for the original Legend Of Zelda gold cartridge. One of the best investments!
I like that you showcase lesser known almost forgotten games, that I also agree happen to be really good! Great list and some of these are super nostalgic for me 👍
Just seeing the Ice Hockey and Double Dribble games in the box he showed was nostalgic for me! It was such a great time to be a kid in the eighties. I feel like today's youth really missed out.
Great video people need to know good cheap NES games especially due to increasing prices. I have about half of these titles from previous videos of yours. I'd recommend Skate or Die still cheap and I had lots of fun with it. Thanks John keep it up 👍
Just got wrath of black manta, section z, TMNT 2 Arcade game, & Rygar for about 40 bucks! Rygar turned out to be mislabeled and was actually Metroid though! I’ll have to try for Rygar another time.
I love Air Fortress. When I was young my uncle bought it for me along w Bubble Bobble, Air Wolf and Fist of the Northstar used when my nearest grocery store rental dept closed. He was the service desk mgr so he had dibs. Great memory right there!
Some great gems on this list that somehow got forgotten over the years. Operation Wolf, Ironsword, Wrath of the Black Manta (and more!) were some games that spent quite a bit of time in my NES. And the fact Batman is still a reasonably priced game makes it a no brainer pickup
oh yeah, that's easily one of my top 10 favorite NES games! It's HUGE too, with so many stages to explore..If you bought this one back in the day you really got your money's worth!
Probably not one of the cheapest but still probably like around 20 dollars, which is not bad at all for a game like that which has sort of become a rediscovered gem.
I really have fond memories of playing couch co-op on Cabal. Mission impossible, spy hunter, yo noid, gun nac, gun smoke, crystalis, tmnt arcade game, disney adventures in the magic kingdom....so many games i still remember playing as a kid.
Rescue the Embassy was called Hostages in Australia, well for the Amiga anyway. Man i have forgotten about this really cool game. Thanks BIG JR, for taking me down memory lane. 😆
EXCELENT review. I would like to add "Pool of radiance" to the list but "Rescue the embassy mission," "Wrath of the black manta" and "Golgo 13" are some of my favorites!
Definitely feeling like I slept on Rescue: The Embassy Mission kinda getting a little Metal Gear Solid-ish vibe with the first part sneaking up to the building! Several of the following ones I did rent at some point and really enjoyed so definitely making a note to add them to the NES collection for sure. also it didn't come up during ironsword but you CAN get a password so at least you have that when your continues expire. (and I don't remember the trick off the top of my head but replacing one letter will give you a full three lives and start you where you left off!)
My favorite game for the NES also happens to be one that you can find relatively cheap. Rygar is the game I find myself going back and playing alot these days, either out of my love for the game play or a sense of nostalgia, or both. For me, it's the videogame equivalent of comfort food. I can pop the game in my Top Loader, open up my Official Nintendo Player's Guide, and I'm back in 1987 all over again.
Awesome video man, I love collecting for the NES and it is nice to see there are still some cheap ones i've never heard of. I'm definitely buying at least three off this list.
omg... wrath of the black mantha. I didn't have that game but i played it somewhere with someone when I was a kid. I'm having some childhood memories. good and bad... thankz Riggs!
I loved airfortress and Golgo 13, Time Lord was a late guilty pleasure that I think I discovered from one of your earlier videos. Roller Games looks really fun.
Retro gaming hippie approves! Another great John Riggs production! Yes I have seen anticipation a ton of times with the perfect 90’s label. Had no idea what it was about!
You're in the top .00001% of NES knowledge in the population. I feel like you're always bringing up games that I've never heard of, and I had over 100 NES games as a kid and read about or saw many more.
Time Lord looks to play nearly identically to Battletoads. Wonder why it's not more popular? Probably because it doesn't have a song that plays when paused. Just guessing. I've never played it that I recall.
Battletoads got one of the biggest magazine hype campaigns a game ever had at that time, it fit with the whole TMNT/Sonic zeitgeist of animals with ATTITUDE, and it had a wider variety in gameplay. Time Lord didn't have a theme that would grab the average person's attention nearly as much, and it's really obtuse since the game doesn't tell you some of the really weird things you have to do to find some of the orbs.
Marble Madness is still fantastic (when you think smashing the button does anything), not long but endless replay value. Also "8 Eyes" it's the poor mans Castlevania which somehow, we never played as kids. And it's 2 player!
This is weird. I've played "Rescue - The Embassy Mission" before. When I was much younger. But the title doesn't ring any bells with me! As soon as you showed footage of the sniper section, I just vividly remembered playing it. That part always reminded me of Alfred Hitchcock and his famous silhouette!
Track & Field II was a game I never bought but rented like 4 times and loved its presentation. Top tier graphics, music, sound effects, and gameplay that Konami was known for.
Magmax looks pretty cool. I've never noticed it before when shopping for games. I'll have to look for it at my local game store. They might have it. Looks cool that you can level up your ship/robot visibly. So many games don't do that.
Great list John! Air Fortress was a great pick! Tons of fun with that one growing up. Also I'm surprised you didn't mention Captain Skyhawk! That's a great one that won't break the bank. And I'm totally one of those people who thought Rollergames was a sports title, so thanks for covering that one. I'll check it out!
I grew up on NES and it was a huge part of my life from ‘87 on. But after all this time, it’s neat discovering there are still some hidden gems in there. +1 on Batman…I’m surprised it’s still reasonably priced.
While I never personally owned an NES, but been around many people that did and I consider myself pretty much up to date on gaming in general, I had never heard about "Rescue..." and it looks fun AF... :D
Man ive been playing madden the past few weeks. Last nes game I played was kickmaster. Ive been on the last sector for three days now. Grawr. This video made me wanna play NES. Great video.
Saw Ironsword for $1.50 at a local gaming store. I had good memories of it but in recent years when I’ve seen videos of the game it looks really bad. I passed on that one. I have over 100 NES/Famicom games but the ones I really want to play again are out of my price range. Shatterhand, GI Joe, Kickmaster, to name a few. Little Nemo and Batman are still affordable and on the top of my list to collect. I got Popeye, Donkey Kong 3, Karnov, because I really couldn’t get them in a better quality format than the NES version for the price I paid for them. The arcade game Cabal is a decent port I thought of collecting. Of course I felt the same way about IronSword and passed on it fearing nostalgia was getting in the way and would be disappointed.
There are so many good games cheap on the NES. R C Pro am should make the list. T & C Surf designs is an underrated title among the dirt cheap stuff. It's gone up a little, but Ninja Gaiden II might be the best bang for the buck on the system. One of the best games regardless of price and you can usually find it for $20 or less.
My comment is off topic, but I found my old Operation Wolf box(it's really just a disk folder like a record album) for the Commodore 64. I just wanted to say how much I miss the days of PC game's boxes. They were in all shapes and sizes and usually included all types of extra goodies that added to the world building of the game. To all the younger gamers out there, y'all really missed out!
just because the games cheap, doesn't mean it's bad or worthless, it's just not popular, once you understand this, you can start growing a collection of pretty decent titles with less then 100 bucks
that was a popular series back in the day that I never really gave a chance to, it was on like the Apple II i remember... maybe should give it a shot now :)
I got all my games at KayBee toys. They were all behind the counter and you had to ask the employee to get you one down so you could read the box. you picked one you thought looked cool then you just hoped for the best
Iron Sword is friggin hard. I'm pretty good at Wizards and Warriors, good enough to have figured out that the score stops counting points at 999,999. But I've always had a hard time with the cloud level of W&W 2,Iron Sword.
Well I was at a festival here in Indiana today and I picked up a couple of your recommendations. Golgo 13 for 4 bucks and magmax for 7 . Games I never played back in the day. Glad I am now some decent stuff there. Almost got the hyperkin zapper for my retron hd. But decided to pass. Thanks for the content. Keeps me looking for something to try I never did as a kid.
I remember jumbo video in 🇨🇦would rent sega genesis games and nes games with no fee until you brought the games back. Cool deal. I used to rent 3 games and pay later 🎉
I liked that game too, a lot of people didn't but I don't think they gave it much of a chance.. Nichibutsu made a lot of great games people forget about, another I love is Seicross
What game(s) do you remember buying with your own money?
Abadox and Legendary Wings could be added to this.
The first one I remember buying was Zelda 2.
I'm only remember Megaman 1,4 and Joust🤔🎮
Batman Returns...immediately regretted my decision
Bump 'n' Jump and I loved it so much. I lost it in a fire many years ago but a buddy gave me his copy and I struggle between playing it or keeping it in a safe lol.
Rescue the Embassy Mission seriously looks awesome, had not seen that before. Reminds me a lot of the Golgo 13 game
I think it's worth checking out.
Golgo 13 hits differently after watching the anime. I should revisit it and the Mafat follow up game.
Wish I'd known you two were gonna talk about them right after, now the prices are probably gonna go up!
Marble Madness is a MUST own.
Snake Rattle N Roll is another great one.
Marble madness is a fun game, frustrating but fun.
Discovered your video today. I agree with your picks here and even found a few I haven't remembered for years. Thanks for the recommendations!
I've been playing the NES since 1988 ( I was only 2) and still find games I've never played. Always picking up some new games.
Just when i think im familiar with the catalogue, I always find some hidden gems on your videos! Cant wait for the next!

QGZRNTJNRJGP , Ironsword
Clash At Demonhead, I loved it as a kid and remember buying it at a pawnshop really cheap. It still seems cheap today but very fun
oh yeah, that's easily one of my top 10 favorite NES games! It's HUGE too, with so many stages to explore..If you bought this one back in the day you really got your money's worth!
Probably not one of the cheapest but still probably like around 20 dollars, which is not bad at all for a game like that which has sort of become a rediscovered gem.
One of the best NES recommendations videos I've seen...Rescue the Embassy and Batman are 2 of the best games I remember from my childhood!
Love the video’s brings my childhood back
Good stuff, John. Air Fortress looks amazing. Thanks for the video.
I bought dynowarz in the twenty dollar on the shelf new days from kb toys. Played a lot of it. Glad to see someone giving it some love.
Love bump and jump, played it back in the day on the arcade and nes. I finally ordered it off eBay 3 years ago.
EXCELENT review. I would like to add "Pool of radiance" to the list but "Rescue the embassy mission," "Wrath of the black manta" and "Golgo 13" are some of my favorites!
Bro I got Pool of Radiance for $50 💀
Rescue the Embassy Mission gave me a good flashback. I think we rented it along with an NES from the local gas station when I was a kid.
Nice list. I'd add r.c. pro am an bad dudes. 2 of my favorites.
air fortress was amazing, had it as a kid and my dad drew maps for all the interiors
Awesome video man, I love collecting for the NES and it is nice to see there are still some cheap ones i've never heard of. I'm definitely buying at least three off this list.
Yes MagMax was a game I played a ton of! The wizards & warriors games were always fun
Operation wolf and karate champ nice picks. Bump and run looks like same company that made spy hunter. And that rescue game reminds me of spy vs spy
omg... wrath of the black mantha.
I remember trading something at Lincoln video for Rescue: Embassy Mission, I absolutely loved that game as a kid!
Time Lord looks to play nearly identically to Battletoads. Wonder why it's not more popular? Probably because it doesn't have a song that plays when paused. Just guessing. I've never played it that I recall.

I second both of these underrated gems!
Nice. I've got some new games to add to my collection!
Black Manta was one of the 19.99 bargain games at Kaybee along with River City Ransom. 2 great steals.
Track & Field II was a game I never bought but rented like 4 times and loved its presentation. Top tier graphics, music, sound effects, and gameplay that Konami was known for.
I have a modded nes mini and love watching your videos for new games to play .
loved rollergames!!! Iremember watching the tv show as a kid
Magmax looks pretty cool. I've never noticed it before when shopping for games. I'll have to look for it at my local game store. They might have it. Looks cool that you can level up your ship/robot visibly. So many games don't do that.
I really need to try some of these. Especially the embassy game.
sometimes i just pop in RESCUE and me and the kids dance to the theme music :P
If you push left when you're repelling and then up to counter it so you don't fall it goes a lot quicker
Dude! I remember the ads for that game in Nintendo Power & EGM. It def cost $40+ back in the late 80s.
Super mario rpg was the game I saved up for and loved playing from start to finish

I've never heard of time Lord in my entire life, thanks for this games list!
Ironsword is an amazing title and the first Non-Mario game I ever beat as a child. Wizards and Warriors 3 is also excellent
Time Lord is amazing! I remember buying this for 2 dollars
You should do a unofficial sequel to air fortress by the way youre great john riggs retro gaming community is lucky to have you
Thanks for the buy list. Pleased to know that I already have a few.
Good call on Black Manta. Very fun game.
Demon Swords, Super spike Vball, and Dragon Spirit are what I recommend. For tougher games, Iron tank and Street Fighter 2010.
I remember Golgo 13! yes marble madness...So many good games on this list
My all time favorite NES game is one no one ever seems to have ever heard of. Shinegan the Ruler.
The JohnRiggs trucking game is awesome!
I didn’t know the game was called Time Lord, but I recognize that gameplay from when I was younger!
Air Fortress is heavy on the Metroid with a bit of the backgrounds taking a hint at sonic 2
John Riggs brightens my day
Saw Ironsword for $1.50 at a local gaming store. I had good memories of it but in recent years when I’ve seen videos of the game it looks really bad. I passed on that one.
I have over 100 NES/Famicom games but the ones I really want to play again are out of my price range. Shatterhand, GI Joe, Kickmaster, to name a few.

Daaamn! Rollergames. I really loved that game and still have it and enjoy it.
Great video, John!
Great list!
I picked up Wizardry from the dollar bin. Well worth the weeks I time sunk into this classic.
Wow, that's fantastic deal. Still need to get my hands on a copy.
that was a popular series back in the day that I never really gave a chance to, it was on like the Apple II i remember... maybe should give it a shot now :)
I grabbed Time Lord on your recommendation last year. Ace suggestion.
I got all my games at KayBee toys. They were all behind the counter and you had to ask the employee to get you one down so you could read the box. you picked one you thought looked cool then you just hoped for the best
I got a near mint copy of Iron Sword Complete for $20 and two loose copies of the Golgo-13 games for $10
Iron Sword is friggin hard. I'm pretty good at Wizards and Warriors, good enough to have figured out that the score stops counting points at 999,999. But I've always had a hard time with the cloud level of W&W 2,Iron Sword.

Operation Wolf was awesome in the arcade!
3rd game is a horizontal shooter
I got Dynowarz as a Christmas present from an uncle. Not amazing but I had some fun with it.
I remember jumbo video in 🇨🇦would rent sega genesis games and nes games with no fee until you brought the games back. Cool deal. I used to rent 3 games and pay later 🎉
Mag max was my game it was very unique thanks for reminding me of that one
I liked that game too, a lot of people didn't but I don't think they gave it much of a chance.. Nichibutsu made a lot of great games people forget about, another I love is Seicross
Just picked up Dragon Spirit The New Legend for like 8 bucks. Great game for that price.
Gremlins 2, Terminator 2, Goonies 2, Tiger Heli, Rescue Rangers... All superfun and cheap games.
Commander Jupiter. LOVE rescue the embassy mission.
Great vid. Had (still do) Time Lord as a kid.
NES Monopoly is another one that I love that goes for less than 10 bucks
Bump N Jump hype! I love that game and its still quite cheap.
Golgo 13 was so awesome!
this list makes me feel old. I don't remember the first game I bought with my own money but it was probably Castlevania 4? I'm assuming.
Startropics. Part 2 zodas revenge was good to but the original. Classic.
Good list i need a few of these still and cheap games are all i can afford these days
Do this for Game Boy, please.
Air Fortress, heck yeah!! Love that game! And Batman should be $200, not $10. It's that good.
My uncle used to work cleaning akklaim offices overnights. He did manage to get us all of their new games in the 80s and 90s.. I never asked questions
Great video topic!
Anticipation and Final Fantasy are the only 2 games complete in box in a 8/10 state that I have in my NES collection 🤟🏻
So many good hidden gems on the NES
yeah, and a rediculous amount of variety too.. I'll always love the NES 😁💯
I loved Ironsword as a kid
