I love prerendered environments, they have their own merits rather than being entirely obsolete.
I agree they add a great deal of detail for little cost to performance it's a decent option for any indie game or even triple a game going for this eras ascetic

Is that like how resident evil 4 remake doesn't load right on the ps4? Like at first some wall textures could look bugged out and low textured and then if you stand in the same spot for long enough high end textures pop up
@@fullmetalfma722 nope that's just lod and texture pop in pre rendered environments would be like something you see in donkey Kong country for the snes and I THINK but don't quote me on it the original Re and Re2
@@Neceroe thank you for clarifying. Everytime I get on a game I notice different faults graphically but I never really understand where in the graphics it's being affected
I remember seeing PS2 games sold at Walmart up until like 2014, and they were always Sonic Mega Collection Plus, and the GTA Trilogy collection (the good one, not that bugged mess on modern systems)
I remember getting the Crash 3-pack brand new around 2011 - was the first time I played Crash Twinsanity and Tag Team Racing. ‘‘Twas a great deal 😎
ok
Same I got that as well around then, well worth it but they still sell PS2 games here and there. Haven't seen them much these days but they're definitely around. @@RoyMcGamer
They still sold PSones in 2010 or 2011 or something, and wiis till 2017 maybe? The PS2 was removed from stores around the same time as the PSone.
I lucked out and snagged a copy of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3/Dragon Ball Z: Sparkling Meteor 3 at a Walmart around 2008 or 2009. I also got a copy of Fire Pro Wrestling Returns/R at a flea market two years prior like literally a month or two after it got released in the NTSB-U market for like $USD 8. (I also got Rogue Galaxy, Final Fantasy XII, Wild Arms 3, La Pucelle: Tactics, as well as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi/Sparkling Meteor 1 and 2, and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 for sub $USD 10 prices as well, among quite a few other video game titles. Flea markets are gold mines for retro video games, and that also holds true even for imported/fan made translated games, as well).
I sold all my PS collection...regret that.
Someone gave my son 3 PS2s, & now we love retro game hunting together😇
i sold my ps1 and ps2....worst decision in my life
@@mr.electronx9036 me too...
@@mr.electronx9036Just get a good gaming pc and download a ps1/ps2 emulator on it. All the games, in high quality and for free.
Now we have to buy everything again
I moved 10 years ago and I only had one sedan's worth of space. I sold my PS2, $40 bucks and I gave it with two controllers and 20 games.
When I look back and I remember the guy I sold it to, I am glad I found a good home for it. The dude was a mega geek, I have no doubts he has taken good care of it.
minor correction since i'm a nerd and also an FFXI player to some degree: the game's recieved more updates since 2015, no new full on expansions but story updates as recently as... this year.
Seriously? That's amazing.
seekers of adoulin in Japan. .. I imported two copies of it! I've sold them now..
For PS2??😮
yes it was a FFXI add on for ps2. @@nojohnso
I just checked it out there's an estimated 1.5million people still playing it im shook
I found a sealed copy of Star Wars battlefront 2 on ps2. In 2018, at Target, it was less than 13 dollars
?
Wow, that's nuts.
I remember finding a copy of MVP 07 NCAA for the PS2 for less than 50 cents at a Future Shop in 2011. This is especially nostalgic for me as Future Shop would abruptly shut down in 2015 the very next day after I visited one not knowing it would be gone.
I remember finding a copy of fifa 2017 for xbox one at a dollar tree around 2020. Still really confused at how that supply chain worked out.
They likely just kept that thing around. I wouldn't be surprised if some PS2 games started being put in those cheap DVD bins they have at Walmart for prices upwards of 5 bucks.
"My dad's PS1 games"... oh, God... oh, God...AM I OLD NOW?
Yeah... got into symphony of the night ps1 due to my dad haha
Nahhh, we're old once we need help getting around. Keep on rockin' cuz your'e in your prime!
Technically they were our dad's, we weren't old enough to buy the games lol
We're still young! (So far...)
i bought all my ps games myself, and i was 11 years old, it helped that my ps1 was modded and i bought all the new games for 2,50 euro a piece once they released.@@falconeshield
Im 21, ps2 already existed when I was born 💀
The Wii kept the PS2 alive Most of the games that ported to the PS2 We’re also on the Wii the Wii popularity in previous generation graphics made porting a breeze
Hmm success breeds success. Looks like everyone is dragging each other down these days.
One of the last PS2 games I got before PS3, back then, was FFXII. It still looks amazing! I also feel like the PS2, especially the slim version, were so much more durable than PS3 and definitely PS4. The good ole days!
I don't remember the PS2 Slim ever giving me issues, but then again I didn't use ot for very long, as I eventually got the new consoles about a year later. The original 'phat' PS2 though.... not so much. 'Disc Rear Error' will forever be burned in my mind. I do recall a means of temporarily 'fixing' it, by carefully opening up the console and turning a little nob, but later PS2 models seemed to be 'unfuxable', as a friend of mine asked me to fix his and the innards looked really different.
I guess it still wasn't nearly as bad as the 'phat' PS3, which was guaranteed to break - for good -once you got the infamous Yellow Light of Death.
I still have a working ps4 I got the year it came out. Still works fine.
Two of my early gen PS4's had overheating issues, but my PS4 Pro has been solid since.@@KevinIsSoAwsome
@@N.i.E.M.O thats crazy ive never had a issue with my phat ps2 for 20+ years
I had a buddy who’s ps2 slim failed, my Xbox 360 slim, and almost 10 year old PS4 work flawlessly tho.
my best bargain bin find for the PS2 was Scaler. I only paid 5 dollars for it and it's unironically a fun platformer. The worlds are colorful and interesting, the music is catchy and great, about the only bad thing is the gameplay does not change much from the early game to the endgame, except for those transformations you get which change up the core gameplay. my favorite level in this game is Desollem, the one where you do races. the music is kickass
Seeing Raidou 2 mentioned in anything other than a specifically SMT-focused video made me spit my drink out.
It's a fantastic game
I found a copy of high school musical for the PS2 SEALED at a local Walmart half a year ago. I was so confused
Well, that is honestly the state of a LOT of Disney merchandise nowadays, and things like that were honestly the beginning of that downward slide for that company, though one can argue that Gargoyles and Hocus Pocus really made that happen before that franchise, and in a lot more impactful ways as well. I would have told the people that wanted those things to pound sand and made things that were a lot better.
Our store still has 8 of the puzzles, and a few pizza cutters from 04.
I find it interesting that _Don 2_ was _technically_ a European release despite being sold exclusively in India due to the fact that Sony never formally had a Computer Entertainment branch in the country, hence the PEGI rating.
I assume that was due the rampant piracy?
@@goatbone Maybe, but it was more like Sony Computer Entertainment not having a formal branch in India. Since they were a former British colony and thus adopted PAL, it only made sense to have SCEE handle the publishing side of things.
Isn't there a mobile version too? I wonder which came first.
@@cannedbeverage7687 I know there's also a port of the game for the PSP, but I am not sure if there's also a mobile game based on the film either.
There were other indian games for ps2 along with don 2 , Ra one , gully cricket , hanuman the warrior
My PS2 is getting more in 2023 than it has since 2009. Started collecting as much from local spots as I can. The PS3 digital store is clutch for the SUPER expensive Games i.e. GOD HAND or Gex 2
Oh good god I forgot about Gex.... I used to love that.... I'm on the look out for that now... I have been rebuilding My PS2 Collection again.... Gex is on my list now thank😂👍
PS2 is overall the best console of all time. It simply has the best catalog of games that encompasses every genre. Sure HD wasn't a thing yet, but other than that critique it still holds up well.
When you have to bring up tech that barley existed at the time as a gripe, you know it was a solid console
Funny you say that, Gran Turismo 4 actually has the option to run at 1080i and 60fps on the PS2. Gran Turismo 4 is a technical masterpiece for optimization.
It might be the only game that supports 1080i, but I can say with confidence that it’s the only game on the PS2 that runs at 1080i and 60fps.
I suppose you could consider Sakura Taisen V (Five) one of three last 3rd party release for the sheer fact the Japanese dub was on disc 2. Thus _disc 2_ is a 3rd party final ps2 exclusive game in NTSC considering the Wii version is based off the dub disc
Came to say im huge FFXI fan, the game still recieves updates to this day and has a thriving private server community. I am a an avid private server player and have hundreds of hours across more than half a dozen private servers. The game really is one of a kind and is different than any other mmo. Every time i see the game mentioned even in a passing capacity i cant help but smile. Those who have played the game understand this feeling. The world and gameplay are unique and simply captivating.
Some PlayStation 2 games you could put into a CD player and they would play soundtracks pretty much. I think the same thing goes even for a DVD player that is not the PlayStation 2.
I have a few that do that too.
Games like SEGA GT on Dreamcast also do this, that was always a neat little easter egg to find when you get bored and try game disks in CD players.
I think it was one of the Gran Turismos on PS2 that was my first time finding it on a PS2 game.
I'm surprised Raidou 2 is one of the last games on the PS2! It's a pretty fun game. I know Persona 3 and 4 were also late PS2 releases too. I used to think it was odd games were releasing on previous console generations, but Atlus was known for low budget releases and the PS3 was tough to develop for. Even Persona 5 was originally released in Japan in 2016 for the PS3 when the PS4 had been out for a few years, when it was localized in North America in 2017 it was released on the PS4. Yeah Raidou 2 has pre-rendered backgrounds but it had a great atmosphere and great gameplay, if you like 1900's Japan like Great Ace Attorney, Disgaea 7 or Like A Dragon Ishin definitely check it out. I remember buying Raidou 2 day one, I still have my Raidou Jack Frost plushie ^^
24:01 It is i, the "Wacky Races PS2" guy.
I honestly find it so funny that even with a seven year gap between D&M and MM, they didn't even get it to look better than the PS1 game. If anyone is curious, the first Wacky Races game on the PS2 is probably my favourite kart racer because there isn't really anything like it, the weapon system is unique, the controls feel smooth and the soundtrack is fire. Contrastly Mad Motors is a mistake against god.
Hey, I remember playing a Wacky Races game on PC in the late 1990s.
Can you tell me anything about it?
@@SneedyKetler There were only 2 Wacky Races games on PC. I doubt you are talking about the one for Atari SE PC's so you're probably talking about the one on PC as well. It was alright for what it was going for, but it didn't have the full roster and it was riddled with hotbox bugs which made the game (at least for me) made the game feel extremely awkward to control. At least the music was top tier though.
Later sports games on the ps2 are fascinating
Like, ive played later maddens and ncaa football games and they honestly feel better than the ps3 equivalents and to some extent look better
But then youve got the fifa games that are literally just roster updates
I just find it interesting that FIFA 14 was literally not only the last PS2 video game that was ever made officially worldwide, but that it also released on the same time as the PS3 version of the game, the PS4 version of the game, the Xbox 360 version of the game, the PS Vita version of the game, the Xbox One version of the game, the Wii U version of the game, AND the PC version of the game...literally half of the systems that the game came out for were for one company, and that was not only an awesome flex, but that it was also a good way to sunset the PS2.
There was a Wii version of FIFA 14, but there wasn't a Wii U release. I think there was also a PSP release too, actually. @ana2015
These are my favorite types of videos to watch and listen to while I draw
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
@@RoyMcGamer yes! Crazy to me that you’ve been working on this vid for a year, it turned out really well. I’m young enough that I grew up with the PlayStation 3, rather than 2, so it was cool learning more about this console I’ve rarely heard about
2001-2010 is my favorite gaming era. ps2 xbox 360 psp so many good times!
I find it funny how Sony felt the need to bleep out the word "fuck" in the game for Don 2, when the movie itself probably didn't have that bleeped. It's even funnier how they literally bleeped out less of the word than most American TV shows do when they bleep out the word "fuck" lol.
It's nice the grandfather PS2 was alive in time watch their grandson be born with the PS4
I remember at the Walmart near me they still had a few copies of the GTA III trilogy combo pack on PS2 up until around 2014, then I think the space they were in was taken over by amiibo. They even still had a single PS2 slim for sale until I think 2013, might've even been after the PS4 had launched which I always thought was pretty crazy.
I remember seeing the GTA collection of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. Ironically they were far better than the one that came out recently.
I was the same case that you were in with consoles. I started playing the Xbox 360 when I was 5 in 2011 and still played it up to 2016 with late life cycle games still coming out.
The fact that the Xbox 360 was released in 2005 and it lasted long enough to have Metal Gear Solid V on it is wild lmao
@@RoyMcGamer Or that PS3 has Persona 5.
6:56 For some reason, there are games being playable on platforms but never get counted as "official ports" like the Jak games you showed. Those "ports" are treated like small trivia. You'll see these with articles of games that were re-released for PSN or Virtual Console/Nintendo Switch Online.
I would consider DDR an exclusive. No one would say SoulCalibur 3 wasn’t a PS2 exclusive despite being in arcades.
Also don’t forget that the version of ddr mentioned in the video is not a console version of the arcade game, it’s more of a sequel to the console release of DDR X than an arcade port
I say that.
I actually saw a ps2 game on a Walmart shelf for $5 in early 2017 just before the switch launch it was the original guitar hero
I still got my ps2 with monitor attached, whenever my sons on school hols and takes over the house it gets dug out
UA-cam finally recommended me a small channel on my TV that wasn't an advertisement. Subscribing for more!
Time-Splitters 3, Jak and Daxter, and Soul Reaver, ahhhhh memories
Soul Reaver one my fave series.... absolute class....
Comparing FF7R‘s combat with that Shin Megami Tensei game isnt even far fetched
Honestly, sports games are way more enjoyable than many give them credit for, especially back on the PS2. As the generatioks progressed and the engines used shifted, a lot of features were gutted and gameplay was changed so much that both the current and last gen versions would exist in their own ways, neither /necessarily/ better or worse thancthe other in terms of raw gameplay.
DDR is an incredible franchise! Dang man lol
I'd also put Devil Summoner 2 and Mana Khemia 2 up there in quality, both games are fantastic and any system would love to have a send off that high in quality. Haven't played Sakura Wars 5 but I'm sure it's as good as the fanbase says it is c:
I actually do really love DDR! I just didn’t want it to be the last PS2 exclusive lmao. Yeah I was a bit too mean to it here, DDR owns 😆
Old ones were more game-y, now everything wants to be a realistic sim. Realism isn't for games
@@RoyMcGamerThe Famicom (Japan nes) had a microphone in one of its controllers.
lol I feel so old whenever someone's like "I've been playing PS2/Xbox since I was a baby" my brain still works in: "were you a SNES or a Genesis kid?"
I have a co worker whos 20 years old and he was born 1 year before the 360 came out. Ps4 release was his elementary school days, Ovetwatch was his middle school days, and he was still in High school whe. Ps5 came out 😅
I bought both Mana Khemia 2 and Sakura Wars: So Long My Love for PS2 at retail when they were "new" in North America. I never had a Wii since I wasn't really interested in the gimmick controllers but, even if I had one, I probably would've gotten the PS2 version of Sakura Wars: So Long My Love anyway for the bonus Japanese audio disk, which is the only version I've played.
A couple of other late era PS2 titles I bought when they were new were Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli, Singstar Queen, and, of course, Persona 4.
The most recent sealed PS2 games I bought from online retail in terms of when I bought them were both Capcom Classic Collections disks from Amazon Canada in 2022 (and, yes, these were sold directly by Amazon Canada and not marketplace sellers).
Seaman for Dreamcast also came with a microphone--it attached to the controller. 'Hey, You Pikachu' on the N64 came with a mic device attaching to the controller. And we all know the original Famicom had a microphone built into the 2nd player controller; Zelda used it for sure. I imagine there's other examples, but that's off the top of my head. Point being, by then it may still have been rare, but not remotely novel (though they all still worked pretty poorly).
I literally bought this game complete on PS2 yesterday. I am trying to collect all Sonic games
This almost 30 minutes flew by, love your commentary. Subscribed!
Great video! I was never a PlayStation kid growing up, so this was really interesting to learn about!
I remember seeing sealed PS2 games being sold at Giant Tiger in Canada in 2015.
I genuinely asked for and got the new WWE game on PS2 in 2009 for Christmas. Yuke's run on PS2 between their WWE and Def Jam games was incredibly strong, plus the power of the PS2 kept back ports coming for five years after the PS2 stopped being the main console for WWE games. I love it and the PS2 will ALWAYS be the best console for wrestling games. Nothing can even compete with the triple threat of Shut Your Mouth, Here Comes the Pain and SVR 2006 (and arguably 2007).
I think the last PS2 game I bought from EB Games (Australia) was either Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 or Tomb Raider: Legend in 2012 on sale for around $10. It was about a year or two later that I noticed PS2 games completely disappeared from the shelves at EB Games.
22:02 Hey! I got that game in Singapore for only SGD10 (don't know how much that was in USD back in 2013) sealed in plastic... until I have to open it to play it on my PS2😆Glad I snatched it before anyone else did.
Great job on this video, rarely do I click on a video and end up watching it all the way through! Loved PS2! Still own many games including some rare ones like Haunting Ground! And loved those old NiS America games, they had a certain charm to them and love to go back to them every once in a while!✌️
One of the last PS2 games I bought was a Sakura Taisen game. I got the deluxe version with both Japanese & English audio - sold the English disc to a friend for $20.
The last PS2 game I purchased new was Odinsphere. I didn't have a PS2 anymore and I played it on my PS3.
Odin Sphere is still so beautiful. I'm still sad the remaster is not on the switch
@@falconeshield It is a beautiful game. To be honest though, I didn't really care for the game itself. I much preferred Dragons' Crown.
The fact that an NRA game exists reminds me of games like Police Trainer and that one Hilton PSP game, games that are made for one very specific purpose and audience. (By the way, Police Trainer I remember being actually kinda fun.)
There was a PS2 game called Ford Mustang The Legend Lives I guess to promote the retro 2005 Mustang
@@literallyunderrated Yeah, but there are a few games that are racers that just focus on one car brand. VW had one and I think so did Ferrari. I was talking about games based on more unusual stuff not typically associated with video games. Seeing licensed cars in racing games is pretty normal.
Reason those FIFA games still came out on PS2 until 2014 is because many people in Latin America were HUGE fans of the franchise but could not afford to upgrade to a PS3 let alone a PS4.
The last game I played on the PS2 was Final Fantasy X2. Then the console died. I never got around to buying a new one.
For me the last good game of ps2 was silent hill shattered memories. It's an 2010 awesome game with great graphics squeezing everything ps2 can deliver
DDR player here, DDR X2 PS2 isn't related to the arcade release in any way. It's stupidly convoluted but tldr X2 PS2 is a PS2 equivalent of DDR hottest party 3, a Wii game released on the same day.
The arcade release of X2 was developed by a completely different team to X2 PS2.
A lot of PS2 songs got ported to X2 arcade as unlockable songs. Songs from the PS2/Wii era have even been added to the arcade games as recently as 2023 lol
Same here about sonic unleashed. I saved my money and bought it new at a GameStop for $30 and passed on buying the sonic collection that had shadow the hedgehog. I now regret what 10 year old me did.
I have/collected almost every PS2 JRPG, and I knew about the sports games from late 2013 from looking up this topic before. I really thought there were more 2010-2011 games/localizations though.
I just finished God of War 2. First time ever playing it. I can attest that it is awesome. I was even thinking about playing through again on hard mode, which is something I rarely do. Go play it!
Absolutely superb Games GOW 1 and 2.... Im playing Legacy of Kain Series at the min.... GOW 1 and 2 are next

Super high quality production! You deserve way more subs. I am also a big fan of PS2 and I learned a lot of games that I have never heard of from this video. Thank you for making this video!
Holy shit i just assumed you had 100k subs but only 2k? Great quality vids man
Its crazy that while the rest of is were hyping the PS4 and X1 some people were still playing PS2
great video! glad to see some love for Sakura Wars 5. If ever you decide to check it out, it'll absolutely be worth your time. It's such a great, underappreciated game that'll likely never get rereleased.
Final Fantasy 12 will always be the game I think about when I hear someone talking about the end of the PS2 era. I remember being in a Zavvi store when I was 12 and thought the cover art looked cool. The guy at the counter was telling me I was in for a treat and he wasn’t wrong. Still one of my favourite games to this day even if I was never a huge FF fan
I kind of have mixed feelings about Final Fantasy XII, as well as its International Job Zodiac Edition, its The Zodiac Age version, and its Dissidia spinoff. I like a lot of features about the game, but, in some aspects, I like the ability to control the combat in real time instead of the Ronco Food Dehydrator way of doing things, i.e., "set it and forget it", because I prefer to have direct control over the combat in the game, and Final Fantasy XII does not allow that option for me, like,, literally, at all (though Dissidia, I think, allows for direct control). I also find that Final Fantasy stories tend to suck for the most part and that they are full of unrealistic bloat (with Final Fantasy VI, VII, the XIII Trilogy, and XV being the worst offenders of the lot), and Final Fantasy XII kind of is like that as well. I also feel like, unlike Cloud in FFVII, Vaan is kind of like a background character that is in an anime or manga that is posing as a leader, and yet no one else literally is strong enough to be a leader type in the game. Honestly, Square Enix is really hit or miss with its characters in its JRPG games (aside from the Dragon Quest series, which they absolutely get right every single time), and that is not a good thing to do for a supposedly flagship series in the JRPG realm.
I had a similar experience with an outdated console but it was the n64 which I had until 2005, barely scraping together enough cash to buy my prized ps2 a year before the os3 came out
In early 2011 when the PS3/360 was in full swing I was like “I’ll just wait till PS4. It’s right around the corner!” Longest 2+ year wait of my entire life lmao
FF11 on PS2 was and still is phenomenal unfortunately like you said no one can play it today but it has received many numerous updates to this day and is still receiving them now. Definitely worth checking out on PC.
My last Ps2 game bought was Manhunt 2 in 2007 when I was in 8th grade. My dad bought it for me at Target before the stores pulled the game from the shleves for being "too violent". (It would have been awesome on the PS3!) I miss those dayz man.
Along with being good hardware, I think the 2008 financial crisis helped keep development going into the next decadenfor the ps2. It might have caused sony to rethink pulling the proverbial plug on the ps2 in, say, 2012.
I had thought that also, basically PS2 was a console for poor people during his last years
The psp mini game "Beats" also lets you use any mp3 on your memory stick as a level
To be fair, the Famicom had a microphone on its second controller, all the way back in 1983.
I was born in 1990 and I remember as a kid at Fred meyers they sold used nes games and remember snes consoles being new in their own section. Crazy to think about now
The Prerendered environments in Raidou II were definitely a choice rather than masking "Lack of skill" or whatever from the team. They had released several fully 3D games on the platform.
I also personally remembered playing Baten Kaitos for first time... in 2011. That game mixed extremely lavish looking pre rendered background with current generation technology elswhere; and had lots of neat fake outs; like bridges you could end up going under and over with, and other neat things like that. A non-child gamer can tell what is being done and where but things like well faked depth, shading and more make those look next level.
Persona 4 Released in Europe during 2009
I can tell from playing actual DDRX2, the arcade version, Japanese one that one has Feel Good Inc. In 2012. Modern. (But it was also a throwback DDR game in sense with lots of older tracks being promoted "again") That the engines are really different. In Arcade they used Windows PC's and at least 720p HD output, and with that also updated their engines every once often. Beatmania IIDX up to 8th style uses PS1 based arcade hardware and rather easy route to porting the games onto PS2, 9th has PC hardware, new engine, VGA monitors and PS2 versions that start to become impossible to play on HDloader. DDRX2 Arcade uses it's current gen engine, new song selection style and more, while X2 on PS2 seems to be reusing a lot from older installments of DDR, it is using same engine at least from SuperNOVA that is three years older. That also brings back the anecdote about Playstation based arcade hardware. Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA/2 has PS2 based arcade hardware, making those versions between home and console same with differences in track listings etc, as arcade used HDD for more data. X had been first PC DDR and what I can tell from this; X2 PS2 is more like SuperNOVA4 than X2 AC. X2 AC does not have background 3D dancers anymore, those were replaced with mostly music video backgrounds in X2 AC. This is also likely why Arcade came LATER when it usually was other way around (well; at this point it was that new games came out ONLY in arcade); They were different games and X2 PS2 might been last push to get money from home dance mat market in America.
TL;DR For all of the trauma dump on top of this line: X2 PS2 and X2 AC are, extremely, different games. Background dancers and our waifu Emi still being there is one dead giveaway, and should be counted, quite counted, and do not hate on DDR I can write a lot about my Dancing Stage love.
I Rember buying the gta trilogy ps2 box set from Walmart when I was 10 or something around 2013 and being like "wait you can still buy ps2 games?" the ps2 was a vintage console in my mind at that point especially since it was a little before my time, so I didn't grow up with it. it's my favorite console for sure just because of all the good JRPGS that were on there. the ps1/ps2 era was the best era for JRPGS. also, not all the JRPGS back then had the same bland anime AF art style. something like shadow hearts didn't look anime at all.
Song: Spagonia (Night) - Sonic Unleashed [OST]
Fun fact about Gun Club: it got released in Italy as well and that version of the game is the most expensive PS2 game (not only among PAL-releases but also including American and Japanese releases) - a complete inbox copy costs $1,479

Totally untrue about fifa 14 being only a Spanish speaking release I saw countless of them at stores and I'm from Poland
I looked for a while and I couldn’t find it, at least not an NTSC English copy, so thank you for the correction!
@@RoyMcGamer don't thank me damn the sites that aren't reporting correct information. I was surprised to hear that fifa 14 wasn't released on the PS2 in NA since it was so common to see one here in Europe.
All games realased in Poland are PAL games, that means that Polish FIFA 14 doesn't count as NTSC release
@@videogamerka0009 Spain was also a pal country so I don't understand what your comment adds?
@@videogamerka0009 in the video it was stated that the game was only released in Spanish speaking countries in eu and that's deifnetley not the case they were also definetley sold in Holland
“My dads PS1 games” god we’re old now…..
Don 2 is one of my friend’s favorite movies, and the video game became an inside joke between us, so seeing an American UA-camr talk about Don 2 is really funny
I just bought (a week before christmas) Persona 4 factory sealed brand new on the shelf at a local game store for 39.99$ lol
can't believe you tricked me into watching 30 minutes of this, you deserve more views
Ps2 games had great graphics
And art style was better then any games on any other consoles❤
Bro i had a ps2 until 2019 💀
I also didn’t get a ps3 until about 2011-2012 and I vividly remember Walmart section still having Original Xbox games and Ps2 games even my local EBGames since I’m in Canada and it was a weird time because I knew I wanted the new consoles but it wasn’t my choice and if anything the games for the older consoles were just cheaper. It’s crazy how quickly things change though and all the sudden there wasn’t a single accessory or game to be found in the store for the older consoles. I remember looking through 100 of used and new original Xbox games around the transition period and they were going for like $7 for 2 or 3 I can’t even remember. Definitely picked up some cool titles and had a last bit of fun with my OG Xbox.
I went to a supermarket to collect my PS4 on release at midnight, they had FIFA for PS2 on the shelves.
This video is soooo gooood. How do you not have more subs.
I found this video by accident, and stayed till the end. It was funny, educational and interesting at the same time :D.
You'd be surprised how many anime licensed games the Japanese kept to themselves.
I got a sealed copy of Persona 3 FES on PS2 3 years ago.
That was like, uh huh huh, cool
Did you have to sell your car for that purchase?
@@enoyna1001 Nope, it was $20
Sonic Unleashed for the ps2 has an absolute vibe. More fun than the ps3 version imo
How old were you if you played your dad's PS1 games? I was playing my own PS1 games lol and I thought I was young. I was 8 when the PS2 released. Such amazing times. I got gifted one in 2001. Amazing memories.
My friend's dad had a Playstation in 1998 and his son had a N64
I was almost 5 when i got first ps2 in 2004.
Yeah, im on ps2 marathon right now.
Yeah, it is still my favorite console and i am playing a lot of games for first time right now, and... I like them more than modern ones.
Turned 21 this year. Was born in 2003, lol
Binging this channel before 300 subs!
This was such a good and well researched video
There likely wasn't a direct follow up to Vib Ribbon on PS2 due to the being difficult to follow up on, not because of the CD playback. Audiosurf on PC does something similar with MP3. By the time of new console released, CD were starting to sell less and Spotify had launched.
damn that Gun Club music is actually pretty dope
The last PS2 game was some sports game either PES or FIFA back in 2013 i believe
Dude, you're supposed to watch the video.
@@newguy371 yeah but i had the urge to comment which i knew that some sports games in that year were the last for PS2.
@@MikeTheGreekPES 2014 and FIFA 14
The last game i buyed for the ps2 was a Beta testing disc for the ps2 where you could play some games as a preview edition ,and damn with the book and the disc it was damn good to know dome of the games that was about to exit at the time
Sonic Unleashed is not really a bad game you just have to like beat em up gameplay because of the werehog sections. So it's a hit or miss experience.
Bro, sonic unleashed is an unfairly underrated masterpiece. I still love it and still play the xbox360 version to this day!
Thanks for the story Roy, nice vid
Something I see rarely talked about online, but quite interesting is that the PS4 is blowing way past the PS2 in terms of longevity right now. By 2009 (9 years after the launch of the console) only a few minor releases were being released for the PS2 and by 2010 that had all but dried up apart from sports games. A phenomenally long run for the time, but the PS4 on the other hand is now over 11 years old and *still* getting a ton of notable releases every month, especially on the indie side where most current releases are still cross platform with the PS4, with no real signs of stopping any time soon. In fact when it comes to physical releases of indie titles, PS4 is still the more popular platform than PS5, due to the letter’s backwards compatibility. And of course the platform more popular than either of the two is the Switch, which itself is about 7 years old now with specs significantly below that of the PS4 itself. Really shows the level of diminishing returns of modern hardware that such aging consoles can still be relevant.
