I get the whole choice overload thing. I do love R4 cards/twilight menu though, because you can use unintended methods to get dlc that would otherwise be lost to time. I deal with choice overload by deliberately limiting myself to 1-3 games that I play until I beat them or 100 % depending on how fun that seems to be for the game. I've beaten, and mostly done 100%, in 13 games this year. It doesn't sound impressive, but it has been a super busy year xD
I picked up my dsi I got in a charity shop for €10. I’m playing Pokémon white. I’m loving it. Being an older gamer I was to old for the original Pokémon craze back in the 90’s. The DS is still an awesome handheld in 2023. Excellent video. I stick to three games at a time. So far I have finished 21 games this year. I’m never going to beat my backlog even is I life until 150. But there is something nice about sticking to games and finishing them.
Thanks buddy. Pokémon Black/White is probably my favourite story of the franchise. Great game! I like your 3 game idea, it's a good way to have variety but stay on track too
Hey I just discovered your channel through the few 30 day challenges you posted. You keep mentioning Greece. I’m Greek-American myself, and used to bring my trusty OG Game Boy to our summer trips to Messini and Sparti in 1989-1993. No one my age had ever seen such an exotic device, you could hardly even find a regular NES anywhere (although arcade games is where Europe shined, lol). So many deep, wonderful memories of my summers at the beach, around the family “periptero”, even my mother’s village of Karyes (outside Sparti) where AA batteries were virtually nonexistent…so no finishing Gargoyle’s Quest till you get back to the city! These days I have a massive 3500-game CIB collection spanning all Nintendo and PlayStation consoles, but will never forget where my love for so many franchises started! Like you, I’m now sharing my faves with my young kids. Thanks for the great stories, subscribing.
Incredible! Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s fun to keep it old school and ditch the mess of modern tech every once in a while. Please keep doing these experiments with other devices!
The DS is truly such a dazzling console. I'm 32 and, yes, there's some level of nostalgia at play and, yes, I'm further biased due to the disproportionate amount of time I played it compared to other systems- but it really was the wild west. You really had no idea what kind of game you were going to be playing next- the variety of titles was and still is truly mind boggling. The console that I spent hundreds of hours on a watered down Phantasy Star Online sequel is the same system I played mario, a GTA spinoff, a first person horror FPS, a 3D voxel puzzle game, a synthesizer song maker, a touch only ninja gaiden, a choose your own adventure book game and a stick man challenge platformer on. The 3DS is typically regarded as the superior platform due to its more modernized and refined feature set, but the DS library just blows it out of the water in the variety department. It strongly reminds me of PC gaming in the DOS era. Every new game was a vastly different experience from the last. It was first party nintendo games mixed with experimental gaming bliss. DS was the fucking GOAT
Beautiful description mate and totally spot on! The thing I really loved about the DS was it was the beginning of Nintendo thinking outside of the box and getting it right. Sure the Virtual Boy was a thing but the technology at the time couldn't deliver on the dream. DS on the other hand delivered on all of its awesome ideas.
I'm also 32 and share the same opinion I didn't get a 3DS until 2016 and tbh I feel the library isn't as strong outside of monster hunter 3 and 4, the Zelda remakes and SMT4 I couldn't get into any of the 3DS Library
9:18 seeing the DS in your kiddo's hands really put into perspective the size of the console for me. I always wondered how growing up I was never bothered by the tiny screens the way I am now but I was a kid with tiny hands, that thing was massive to me in my little child hands
Haven’t started the video yet sorry hahah, but I’ll leave this comment here for now, before I come back later to check out the full video: One recommendation for DS - *Plants vs Zombies.* I literally can’t stress it enough. It’s so f-ing good. It’s like the “pre EA” version of the game, the OG idea, meaning before EA came in and added all that microtransaction BS etc etc. It’s clearly before the buyout; Plants vs Zombies in quite possibly it’s purest form. It’s SO freaking charming; there’s over 30+ plants (and almost as many zombies), and you unlock a new plant after every single round (aka after every victory - smart way to constantly “spice up” the gameplay; that way it never became stale, because there was always some new game mechanic to learn, or something else I needed to “adapt to”, etc etc). The plants are all so unique and fun, and they all have something distinct to their abilities, along with the fact that they’re also given “human-like” traits/personalities (like a cute little description of them in their bio, that mostly just talks about them as if they’re just a regular human person with thoughts, feelings, hopes, dreams and aspirations, etc lmao - and not as a weird ass plant 🪴) And somewhat the same with zombies! Surprisingly unique-looking as well all of them, and with some very fun designs and variations etc when it comes to attacks/weaknesses and other things :-) The game has so much life and personality, and humour, and heart - the developers (PopCap I think the studio is called) clearly put so much time and effort into this game; it’s so clear. And I honestly haven’t been having so much fun in ages lol. In fact, I’m kinda (definitely!) addicted at this point hahah (help) In terms of what it looks like as a game on the DS, it mostly functions as a “mobile game”, actually, if that makes sense; most of the “action itself” happens at the bottom touch screen - except for the progress bar of each wave/round, which is located at the bottom of the top screen; everything else there is just some fun visuals and whatnot. :-) It’s what I’m imagining the OG-version of the mobile looked like as well, mostly - before EA came in later with all of their lousy updates and etc, obviously 😅 Anyway, point is… it’s really, really, REALLY good lol. And there’s so much to do, too; even after the “story mode” (“Adventure”) is over, as there is so, so much post-game content as well. Lots of fun. And in my personal opinion, it’s also a MUST PLAY for ANY Nintendo DS owner - and especially if you haven’t played (any version of) PvZ before at all! Check it out if you can everyone :-)
Man this video shows so much passion and its so good to see and hear, it's like a friend telling me how its challenge was. Thank you. I surely will try this challenge too
Owning over about 108 DS games(which I am STILL gaming on and collecting for it in 2023 & beyond), the Nintendo DS Lite is my favorite hand held gaming console.
Went to the ER for abdominal pain that was intensifying by the minute. The only thing that kept my mind at bay was my switch lite and playing vampire survivors. I can relate to your experience.
I like these series that you do, they are enjoyable to watch! I love Nintendo DS! Such a wide variety of games! I prefer my New 3DSXL, but I still play with my onyx black DS Lite every now and then to revisit the memories. Such a small, lightweight, and very portable device! More portable than my PSP or PS Vita!
I used to love having my *DS Lite* on hand but once I got into my 40s the screens became too small for comfort. Thankfully, the *DSi XL* meant I could still play the same games whilst on the go.
Cool! It would be interesting if you did the 3DS after the RG Nano and compared the libraries. Kinda sad there wasn't any PMD, but it sounds tough trying to fit a bunch of games into a tight time limit, and you managed to get in some great variety.
Thanks buddy, getting through multiple games definitely was the challenge this time round. I'll definitely do the 3DS at some point. I plan to only play 3D games and in 3D all the time 😬
Recently I modded my 3ds and been loading it with games, started phantom hourglass, so good, used to play it when I was young, I’m 26 now and it’s still a great title.
I LOVE these videos especially! You see, I’m 21 years old, and my life is in absolute chaos. Hence, I can’t even make time to continue doing videos. But seeing your content, makes me realize that one day, things might actually be better. Now I know that sounds like a stretch but: at the surface, with what I’m seeing, your life seems like how I want mine to be. Doesn’t matter if when u did the Gameboy DMG, GBA or now this challenge. I love seeing you enjoy games, and talk about ur absolutely wonderful family in between. It’s just such a cozy vibe, if you know what I mean? I’m sorry if I seem strange, I just wanted to say I appreciate your content for giving me peace. I’m sure ur a great dad. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
I've actually been doing a "30 Day Challenge" for the past few months with my Wii lol. Being in a upper poor household, we can afford some stuff, but still can't do monthly subscriptions other than our phone bills lol. Finding things to play without Internet has been such a unique experience. I absolutely love my Wii, I can play so many Zelda games, GameCube and Wii both, we have so many Mario games, I can play just Dance, my favorite cozy games like Animal Crossing and Pikmin. Play the Sims! And it's just getting used to having the games be a little older. Things from the 00's looked so unique. And I'm so happy I have my childhood with me in daily life. It's truly such an amazing console to have when you actually appreciate the content it can run!
You know what, that sounds like absolute gaming bliss! It's easy to get distracted by all the modern triple A games and battle passes, but the generation of the Wii was golden. So many unique and different games and you can get so many for a great price. I truly believe limitation is the key to true appreciation Happy gaming!
What did you go to University for? Software? Dude ima do this. After watching I realized I have so many games that I don’t play. To start with 1 week of DS only. 2nd week GBA. 3rd….PSP. Force myself to only play that console and its games for a week. This way by the time you finish multiple systems it’s been possibly a few months. Now you’re super excited to circle back to DS or even pc. This is gonna be fun. Maybe toss in there games you never beat or games you beat only as a kid.
I did Electronics Engineering with Software. It's definitely a great way to play games and honestly the only way I consistently play retro games. I really like your weekly idea.
Trauma Center was great, there also is a second one. You should have gotten Puzzle Quest and Meteos though, they're pretty amazing, the first one also has some nice story while Meteos is a unique puzzler, you won't find anywhere else, sadly: ever again. Also you have to play the two Advance Wars games, they're top tier if you like turn based Strategy games, then there are also three really good Castlevanias and many Mega Man games on the system. I mainly played the DS instead of consoles from 2005-2010 basically, so many great memories, and so many amazing games. I am currently looking forward to getting a DSi XL, which is the best way to play DS games, seeing the 3DS lineup lacks a sharp DS Mode, and blurs the top screen while also having ugly black borders that will glow in the dark at you...
It's taken me roughly a month to finish pokémon Omega Ruby. I know what a lot of you were thinking and yes I took a lot of breaks and got burnt out lol The post game is not something to be trifled with. I just picked up alpha Sapphire and immediately rushed through the story to get to the post game so I can get the rest of the legendaries that I'm missing in the few pokémon in that game that I need to finish my pokédex. I don't intend to transfer over anything from X and y as they're all going into home anyway but I wanted to get the majority of the pokémon from the said games out of the way. On that side note lol I want to really play some other DS games and I'm starting to enjoy the handheld more and more and I only wish I would have gotten into it when it was in its prime and the shop was still open.
@@ChronikSpartan yeah but my issue now is with the closure of the eshop and soon the online components, pokemon is on its way out too and it'll be a pain to collect them all until they release more on the switch games. So I'm frantically collecting them all on the DS games atm lol.
My whole family owns a ds. My kids both have a dsi and my wife and i have a dsi xl (eyesight...well getting older). We also have other consoles (ps3, wiiu, switch, 3ds) and pcs but for travelling we always take the ds. Its inexpensive, easily modded and there is an amazing game library and lots of family friendly multiplayer titles. It's also pretty portable. Overall the perfect retro handheld for us.
Calling in sick, playing video games, with Batman the Animated Series on in the background. Now THAT is well played! I've often been interested in the Professor Layton games as I often hear such good things about the series. Really adored the time you still spent with the kiddos while playing, like with the Minecraft quick build guide or just time spent on the couch together. That's awesome and certainly a benefit of handheld playing; it leaves the TV freed up meaning you can still hang out in the same room and interact with family and friends. WOO!!! Get that Chrono Trigger on, yeah boy! I've had so much fun playing through this one again, but now, getting to chat with all the Retro Refresh and more about our experiences. Go figure, Duke Nukem gets the shaft yet again... The Mario vs. DK games are so good; cannot wait for the one coming to Switch. Used to have fun playing the Trauma Center games on the Wii with some buddies back when we worked in surgery. What!? Is that last screen for real? Aaaand my hands are aching already. lol
I grew up with the DS line of consoles and I loved it. My favorite line of the DS’s that came out are the 3DS’s. I still love playing the Japanese version of Kirby Planet Robobot on my 3DS.
I hate that you got Covid, but, I'm glad that it was a later variant, as they're not nearly as likely to give you lasting effects (though, still possible). I got the Delta variant and I've only JUST finally started getting over the vascular and cardiovascular issues I've been having over the past year and a half. One game you should check out, if you have the possibility of playing it, is the Ni No Kuni Translation for the DS. I'd contend its a much better game than the PS3, and Remastered versions (though those are not bad games at all). Level-1 makes incredible experiences (Jeane D'Arc on PSP being one of my personal faves!). I'd love to see a PSP and Vita 30 day challenge.
You got on some great games there Stav. Trauma centre is one of my fav DS games. It didn't port well to the Wii though. Guitar hero is one of those games that over time you figure out the right angle etc and it becomes more fun. I had the DS from launch and you have a few games here I never knew were in the DS 😂 As for Duke Nukem why didn't they just take inspiration from the OG 2d games they were fun and it'd been great on the ds. One amazing game on the ds is resident evil. The updates to combat is just amazing. It was the first way I completed RE
I have been literally doing that for the last 3 years. There are countless RTS and Strategy games on DS and literally Elder's Scrolls clone - Fighting Fantasy. How is it even a challenge?
Nice work! If you ever get the Mario Party bug I suggest the DS version, I Might be biased as it was the first MP game I ever played, but I enjoyed it more than any of the others I've played.
@ChronikSpartan Yeah, the switch version is OK, but I feel it's nowhere near as good as the ds version. The ds version has a story mode with boss fights at the end of each level (if you finish in 1st).
@@flytrapguy7431 Yea i def get that. The DS version is probably the Mario Party i played the most. But the new switch mario party is more like a compilation of the best mario party minigames with some of the old popular maps. It has no new minigames only N64, and GC. I think it's really fun game too tho as i really like old N64 mario party, but it always takes to long to set up if you have friends over.
I've witnessed your reviews for Nightfire and Agent Under Fire. I absolutely love how wholesome those reviews are where you're talking about traditions of Christmas, playing with your sister and brother in law, and now your kids. Your house sounds like it had a lot of peace and understanding in it. I go back just to listen to you talking about your warm memories rather than watching the review for the game. Those stories have that same energy of sitting by the fireplace drinking tea or hot chocolate. Blessings to you and your family, brother.💯
Thank you SO much, you don't realise how much this message means to me! That's exactly the vibe I go for for with those Christmas reviews and I love that you get that from them. The coziness of those memories is really important to me and I try to pass that feeling on 😊 Thanks you again so much and I can't wait to record this year's review...
By the way, if you decide to do a 3DS version of this challenge, you should be wary that all 3DS models will only play the game from the region it's made for. For example: PAL 3DSes can only play PAL games. Although, all of them can play DS games through backwards compatability, so your PAL 3DS can still play NTSC-U DS games, vice-versa.
Good advice mate. When I do the 3DS I want to do all the games in full 3D, lol. I always find it strange why they kept swapping whether a console was region locked or not, never made sense to me!

I loved playing chrono trigger but I never finished it and I gifted my dsi to my sister with my copy of it. Tried to play it on my phone and the touch screen is a bit meh. I can play it on the ps vita via the ps1 game but it’s so terribly slow and laggy it wouldn’t be a fun experience. I’m hoping that they re release it on the switch, it would make me actually use the switch (hundreds of digital games but no real interest) I usually just play my ps5 tbh. I’d also be interested if you revisited the gba, I feel like there are some real hidden gems on that system and that it takes more than 30 days to really appreciate what’s there and to sink the time into it. I feel the gba has many games like golden sun! As well as many snes classics. I feel your gba 30 days left a little to be desired, while your dmg and ds videos were amazing! The gba was revolutionary with its use of gba movie carts where you could watch shows etc. I beg you, if you get another chance to revisit a 30 day challenge please do gba again! A part two! And on that thought wave, perhaps even a dmg part 2 but this time using an ips mod ;)
It's so difficult covering all the amazing games in 30 days, you need more like 300 days. But I guess that's part of the challenge. I'll definitely consider a revisit of the DMG and GBA challenges, but there are so many other challenges I'm looking forward to trying out to 😁
If you thought the DS was too easy you could have tried something like a Game Gear that system's awesome. I wouldn't recommend a Sega Nomad cuz that feels like cheating
@@ChronikSpartan yeah it was more like a not wanted Speedrun first and than I wanted to see how fast can I beat the game too 100% again at a day after.
OT: My favorite episode Batman Animated Series is Almost Got Him. All of Bats foes sitting around playing cards trading stories of how they almost got Batman.
@@ChronikSpartan very brilliant! Also Harley & Ivy is a great episode. A Batman version of Thelma & Louise. This is why the Arkham Asylum/City games were so good. They were written by the animated series Paul Dini! He also wrote the story to the game Injustice.
I love challenges like this, i really appreciate the DS and not giving it a chance and passing on it for a PSP (I loved New Super Mario Bros on DS) and I intend to rectify that by getting one as soon as I can.
@@ChronikSpartan no worries, I literally had the original DS but as soon as I could get the PSP i jumped at the chance and hindsight is a wonderful thing, I would definitely have chosen the DS if I had that time again or I’d have had the best of both worlds as the DS has a charm to it that many people feel that the Switch (which i do own) lacks, I’m not one of those people as I love my Switch but I think the DS and Wii were where Nintendo really became to stand out and really innovate and the Switch is literally every Nintendo console since the DS, 3DS, Wii, WIi U rolled into one and you could say I made the choice I wish I’d made when the DS came out and I chose the Switch over the PS5 this time around (I had a PS4 and I just couldn’t get into any of its games) I’d love to see you cover the 3DS which is another system I’m also wanting to collect for. Again great video.
I really wish I still had my DS lite. Man I loved that system. I REALLY regret selling my new 3ds xl. Ooooh well. I’ll not be getting rid of my switch.
Hahaha! What I didn't mention in the video was that I ended up being their first customer too 😂 They ended up having a card machine failure, so could only accept cash, so the people in front of me just left 🤣
Damn! I was so so close man. I mean your journey didn't end in California but other than that, yup, you've gone hippie on us. 😉. Great content lad. My daughter and wife are gardeners but the four boys were all gamers growing up and we had s ton of fun especially during the gen 3/gen 4 eras.
Hahaha! Just wait for some reason of the future challenges I've got planned 😅 Sounds like you guys had some great fun gaming. I love that time together with my crew 😊
215 was actually on the list, but I've been looking forward to it for a while so didn't want to rush through it. Will check out last window, I've not heard of that 👍
Haven’t watched yet, but what I would do: Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Dragon quest 9 Final fantasy 4 Chrono Trigger 999 I assume that would get me through the month, but if I needed some extra games to kill time: Pokémon Platinum Pokémon Soul Silver
To be honest. I voted for the DS challenge but this is as difficult as "Only going to play games with my 4090 for 30 days challenge!" . DS has so many fucking good games.
What happened: your beard grew a bit more, and your taste for simpler times became seasoned with salt.

It has arguably better games than what modern consoles get, to some degree, there are some really good games but they get drowned in a sea of mediocrity.
I find deciding what to eat for dinner more of a "challenge" than playing on a 3ds
It's not playing any other console that is the challenge

That's very impressive by my standards! I'm only at 6!
Yeah you definitely need to find ways to discipline yourself when there is so much choice!
The DS has an amazing library of games. Easy challenge really lol. I'm playing Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow right now, as well as SMT: Strange Journey.
Yep, game wise very easy. The challenge was fitting in a lot of games 😁
so true, i'm trying to clear the postgame in star force 3
i wish another dawn of sorrow would appear

The plants are all so unique and fun, and they all have something distinct to their abilities, along with the fact that they’re also given “human-like” traits/personalities (like a cute little description of them in their bio, that mostly just talks about them as if they’re just a regular human person with thoughts, feelings, hopes, dreams and aspirations, etc lmao - and not as a weird ass plant 🪴)
And somewhat the same with zombies! Surprisingly unique-looking as well all of them, and with some very fun designs and variations etc when it comes to attacks/weaknesses and other things :-)
The game has so much life and personality, and humour, and heart - the developers (PopCap I think the studio is called) clearly put so much time and effort into this game; it’s so clear. And I honestly haven’t been having so much fun in ages lol. In fact, I’m kinda (definitely!) addicted at this point hahah (help)
In terms of what it looks like as a game on the DS, it mostly functions as a “mobile game”, actually, if that makes sense; most of the “action itself” happens at the bottom touch screen - except for the progress bar of each wave/round, which is located at the bottom of the top screen; everything else there is just some fun visuals and whatnot. :-)
It’s what I’m imagining the OG-version of the mobile looked like as well, mostly - before EA came in later with all of their lousy updates and etc, obviously 😅
Anyway, point is… it’s really, really, REALLY good lol.
Check it out if you can everyone
:-)
Man this video shows so much passion and its so good to see and hear, it's like a friend telling me how its challenge was. Thank you. I surely will try this challenge too
Thanks dude! I really appreciate that. I try to approach the videos from a personal perspective, so I'm glad it comes across that way 😊
I'm recently playing my 3ds so so much its such a breeze to play my old favorite games again :)
also you do very very good videos
It's such a fantastic console isn't it!!
Thank you, that really means a lot 😊
Owning over about 108 DS games(which I am STILL gaming on and collecting for it in 2023 & beyond), the Nintendo DS Lite is my favorite hand held gaming console.
It is such a superb console, so many amazing games and perfectly portable
Went to the ER for abdominal pain that was intensifying by the minute. The only thing that kept my mind at bay was my switch lite and playing vampire survivors. I can relate to your experience.
I like these series that you do, they are enjoyable to watch! I love Nintendo DS! Such a wide variety of games! I prefer my New 3DSXL, but I still play with my onyx black DS Lite every now and then to revisit the memories. Such a small, lightweight, and very portable device! More portable than my PSP or PS Vita!
I think that's why I love the DS Lite so much. It's such a pocketable device and so great for on the go!
I plan to only play 3D games and in 3D all the time 😬
@@ChronikSpartan Ouch. I wish your eyes luck then, since you're only supposed to play with 3D on for periods of 30 minutes before you break.
Why are these considered challenges?
They're are people out there that still play games like this today.
I play these kinds of games all the time. The challenge is to play only that console and nothing else.
Yeah, like me a few months ago!
@@ChronikSpartan Ah! That makes sense. Looks like a fun challenge though. I'll give Playmobil a try.
a book club style thing for gaming is such a good idea, i wish i had people around me to do that with :D

I am glad you are the OG30 day GB guy. I was kinda annoyed someone took the idea for something that is a lot newer. Cool series.
Haha, thanks dude, I appreciate the allegiance 👊
I truly believe limitation is the key to true appreciation
Happy gaming!
Thank you for the nostalgic trip and rekindling my love for the Nintendo handheld library.
Fantastic game list, I'm definitely adding them to my playlist.
I love hearing gaming memories like this, absolutely brilliant!
The good thing about getting into the DS now is that physical games are not too expensive to find 😉
@@ChronikSpartan yeah but my issue now is with the closure of the eshop and soon the online components, pokemon is on its way out too and it'll be a pain to collect them all until they release more on the switch games. So I'm frantically collecting them all on the DS games atm lol.
I love my modded dsi xl! I also love my switch oled but I love switching it up! And the ds has so many great games!
I love these 30 day challenges you do.
Thanks mate, I love doing them so really appreciate it when you enjoy them too!
@@ChronikSpartan I have an idea for you. 30 days N64 only, for the entire family. Including the kids.
great idea!@@starsaver8885
I could play only DS for years. It has a great library of games with some of my favorites.
It is so amazing and unique!
I spend a good amount of my gaming time with my 3ds playing lots of great 2ds games on it as well 😊
Such a great console, I love the dual screen aspect 👌
This is actually a great a video, the choice overload thingy is relatable, can't wait for the next 30 days video!! ❤🎉
3DS is still such a mind-blowing console, I absolutely love it!
I had the DS from launch and you have a few games here I never knew were in the DS 😂
As for Duke Nukem why didn't they just take inspiration from the OG 2d games they were fun and it'd been great on the ds.
One amazing game on the ds is resident evil. The updates to combat is just amazing. It was the first way I completed RE
2:27 that game is a banger
Yeah it's absolutely brilliant!!
@@ChronikSpartan thanks for replying!
I have been literally doing that for the last 3 years. There are countless RTS and Strategy games on DS and literally Elder's Scrolls clone - Fighting Fantasy. How is it even a challenge?
Great vid. Real-life stuff. Much appreciated.
Thank you mate, really appreciate that!
Nice work! If you ever get the Mario Party bug I suggest the DS version, I Might be biased as it was the first MP game I ever played, but I enjoyed it more than any of the others I've played.
I definitely try it out. I've only ever dabbled and that is with the Switch version.
I love the 30 day challenges
Thanks mate! I love doing them :)
The coziness of those memories is really important to me and I try to pass that feeling on 😊
Thanks you again so much and I can't wait to record this year's review...
I played elite beat agents so much as a kid I was so happy to see it covered here it’s super underrated
Thanks to my cousin for that, I'd not played until this challenge and absolutely loved it! Some of the later levels are brutally hard!
I still pick up my DS xl regularly. The DS is still a great system that is perfect for handheld gaming sessions.
N+ is a platformer akin to Mario that I swear by. It also came out on the PSP and Xbox 360. It got a sequel on PS4, XB1, Switch, and PC.
Oh I'll have to check it out, cheers buddy
I know what happened. You experienced ultimate, unadulterated joy and carelessness.
🤪
I really hope Nintendo makes another, modern DS
Fingers crossed the Switch 2 might be dual screen 🤞
By the way, if you decide to do a 3DS version of this challenge, you should be wary that all 3DS models will only play the game from the region it's made for. For example: PAL 3DSes can only play PAL games. Although, all of them can play DS games through backwards compatability, so your PAL 3DS can still play NTSC-U DS games, vice-versa.
Good advice mate. When I do the 3DS I want to do all the games in full 3D, lol. I always find it strange why they kept swapping whether a console was region locked or not, never made sense to me!
That's true for almost all games. The only exception I know of is the Louvre guide, which you can play on any region 3DS.
@@ChronikSpartanIt's not a problem if you install CFW - Luma bypasses region locks
I'm pretty sure that I have accidentally completed this test multiple times throughout my life.
Dawn of Sorrows and Supersonic Warriors 2 are my two most often replayed.
Here's what I've got on my 3ds playable through Twilight Menu
Looking forward to the next time you do this challenge or just something you find interesting to put on your r4 card. :)

Great selection of games mate!!
Yes that's a great list
There are many great Japanexclusivs RPGs with English translation to check out like Tales of Heart or Innocent and Nora and the Time Maschi e
Now we need a DSI games only version
A challenge for this guy is my normal life. Ds family is my top 3 systems of all time alongside snes and the dreamcast.
You should do a GameBoy Color 30 Day Challenge and Nintendo 64.
I could live on a deserted island with the DS and it’s library (and a source of power)
Haha, for sho. We just need that solar power mod
If you want carpal tunnel go with the nano 30 day challenge.
I did that already 😉
I think you should try this with the psvita
I watched this early in the morning and genuinely thought u had placed your coffee on top of the DS when the video began💀
@@alpen6684 haha! Risky manoeuvre!
I'll definitely consider a revisit of the DMG and GBA challenges, but there are so many other challenges I'm looking forward to trying out to 😁
What is that pixel usb screen box thing in the top left around the 3 min mark?
That's the Divoom Timebox. It's actually a really decent speaker.
@@ChronikSpartan thank you!
If you thought the DS was too easy you could have tried something like a Game Gear that system's awesome.
I wouldn't recommend a Sega Nomad cuz that feels like cheating
Game Gear was definitely an option and will probably appear in a future episode 😉
I love that you game and have 3 kids. I am trying to do that as well. I had my first baby 8 weeks ago. Loved the video and love the DS
Congratulations buddy!! The first months are the most hectic, you find a pattern after that 👍
Lots of fun to come!
Father of three? My guy flexing he’s an absolute SHAGGER.
Hahaha! 💪😅
I'm only 3 and I love playing my DS even though I have a beefy gaming PC, a modern racing sim rig, a flight sim and both XSX and PS5
Lucky 3 year old!
9:18 what game is that, graphics looks amazing ?!
That's Professor Layton 👍
@@ChronikSpartan thank you.
Guitar hero is one of my favorite ds games. You have to keep your wrist straight and it wont hurt. I can mostly play all the songs on expert
I'll have to give it another go
This brings me back when I started Speedrun Professor Layton 1 in 2020 on a covid weekend.
My first Run was > 8 Hour for 100%
My second was
4 hours, that's really impressive!!
I'll have to check out those games. Time to dust off the R4 😉
@@ChronikSpartan yeah it was more like a not wanted Speedrun first and than I wanted to see how fast can I beat the game too 100% again at a day after.
me who has been playing the 3DS since 2012: 🗿
But have you played only 3DS?
I liked your choice of background music for this vid
Thanks mate, I really did try to focus on pairing up the music well.
Metal Max 3 is a pretty good RPG there's an English patch if you're interested.
Ooh, not heard of that one, I'll check it out!
OT: My favorite episode Batman Animated Series is Almost Got Him. All of Bats foes sitting around playing cards trading stories of how they almost got Batman.
Ooh, I've not reached that one yet, sounds brilliant!
Thanks mate! Yeah I did exactly the same, totally skipped DS to go for PSP. DS is such a great console though!
This should be a new trend
You should try it
@ I think I will
I really wish I still had my DS lite. Man I loved that system. I REALLY regret selling my new 3ds xl. Ooooh well. I’ll not be getting rid of my switch.
You should totally play the Virtual Boy for 30 days straight
Haha, just finding one is challenging enough
Instantly made me change my mind about wanting a series x for my birthday and instead asking for a Nintendo DSI xl or Ds lite
That's awesome dude, and a fantastic choice!
Waiting in line for a Taco Bell grand opening is so wild to me as an American but also every single American will understand why you did it😂
Hahaha! What I didn't mention in the video was that I ended up being their first customer too 😂
They ended up having a card machine failure, so could only accept cash, so the people in front of me just left 🤣
I really like your Retro Refresh idea…
Cheers buddy, jump into the Discord to join in on Game of the Month if you want. We're currently playing Soul Reaver 👍
Damn! I was so so close man. I mean your journey didn't end in California but other than that, yup, you've gone hippie on us. 😉.
Great content lad. My daughter and wife are gardeners but the four boys were all gamers growing up and we had s ton of fun especially during the gen 3/gen 4 eras.
Hahaha! Just wait for some reason of the future challenges I've got planned 😅
Sounds like you guys had some great fun gaming. I love that time together with my crew 😊
@@ChronikSpartan Right? The kids and I used to laugh so hard playing Smash Bros on N64. Fun times lad.
I delved into the DS backlog and it felt weird to play anything else for a while
It is such a great and distinctive library, nothing else like it.
Hotel dusk room 215 and last window: the secret of west cape are games a highly recommend to play
215 was actually on the list, but I've been looking forward to it for a while so didn't want to rush through it. Will check out last window, I've not heard of that 👍
Ngl, these challenges will never reach the peak of the original dmg 30 days.
I know, you can never recreate the simplicity of the Original challenge, but it's still fun giving it a go 😊
love your vids!!
Your knuckles must be made of iron, full of iron or both!
Haha, how come?
btw how about you go and do a challenge from me play roblox games as your only games for the next 2 weeks.
I’m still using mine with r4 and consoles clasics emulators like nes gb master system 😊
Haven’t watched yet, but what I would do:
Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey
Dragon quest 9
Final fantasy 4
Chrono Trigger
999
I assume that would get me through the month, but if I needed some extra games to kill time:
Pokémon Platinum
Pokémon Soul Silver
Superb selection!! The DS has such an amazing library of games to choose from.
Hope you enjoy the episode 😊
I can play shin megami tensei strange journey nds over and over again! My fav game
I am still yet to try one of the series!
Can you do 30 day psp just asking because psp is my childhood ☺️
You have to try dementium, it's one of the best ds games I've ever played
You're the 2nd person to mention that. I'll definitely check it out!
Trauma Center is so fun, and stressful. But damn is it fun because its stressful
Haha! Yeah, you truly feel like your patient will die if you fail 😱😅
Think my fave ds games was world ends with you, and chrono trigger, I got CT back in uni when it came out glad I did with the price of it now.
Chrono Trigger is so good!! I've not played WEWY yet, been on my list for a while now though
To be honest. I voted for the DS challenge but this is as difficult as "Only going to play games with my 4090 for 30 days challenge!" . DS has so many fucking good games.
Yeah I can't lie, it wasn't as hard as the other challenges, but it was so much fun!!
@@ChronikSpartanI seriously recommend you to give Ace Attorney a try when you have the time.
Loved prof Layton, until I get a maths question lol
Haha! Such a great game 👌
