Our HS didn't have a wrestling team, neither did the next two schools over. Having a blast learning the BJJ incorporated move variations from my one of my training partners who's a HS coach. Convinced that no other sport can match the conditioning of a wrestler, thanks for the training tips🤟
Black belt Bjj here . Even as a jiu jitsu’s black belt I look up to wrestlers . They’re grind is so crazy . I try to improve my grappling by learning wrestling
Great content as always, thank you... Instead of split jerk stance could you use squat jerk stance? I seem to have more stability underneath that position.
For wrestling purposes we prefer the split because that is the stance you will be in when wrestling and will develop core stability when you prepare to go for a shot. The squat jerk though is beneficial too for core stability and getting greater mobility so that may depend more on your goals.
Cheers for the information. I've got myself into MMA, and we do Wrestling, BJJ, striking and so on. I need to increase my strength, and explosiveness to support me in takedowns, holds and so on. I of course need to up my calorie and protein intake to increase my mass and ability to have they weight advantage. That said, it can be used against you, so technique is vital.
@@Dan-fj8vt it's too difficult mate to do 100% at both. I'm now 35 and the impact it has on your body is crippling. I struggle to focus on the gym when I do jits because of my knee, ankle pains so I can't focus on muscle mass as much, and then vice versa. It's either one or the other or weights are minimal and more focused on MMA.
@@Dan-fj8vt but I haven't done MMA since November as I had a chest infection and apart from wrestlig Christmas Eve. I'm not focusing on gaining size and strength.
Awesome information as always! I've really been adding in kettlebells, gymnastic rings, clubs, maces and now a Bulgarian bag and hydrocore bag. Also having many of my jiu jitsu students and wrestlers do these. I've been using the Bulgarian bag to help improve my overhead squat. What's your opinion on those tools?
What size med balls do you recommend for the home gym. Would you say anything over 25lbs requires a slam ball? I’m just trying to order everything from Titan during the 4th of July sale 😂
Cool. I'm really enjoying your helpful videos. By the way, I actually had the chance to meet the head coach of GMU. I think he used to coach Gwiazdowski.
Sledge Hammer (alternating over the top and side to side hits), Landmine (Standing Russian Twist), Heavy explosive short sets of Battling Rope (alternating each rep Stir the Pot and Gorilla Slams)
@@GarageStrength Thanks because some people say that you should increase your strengh first and then turn it into an explosive in the next step. Is this true?
@@GarageStrength I believe he is talking about how he can put these exrecises in his training regime to get even stronger, without messing up his regime
Weighted pull ups are great too but the amount of resistance stays the same as the weight around your waist won't change. With a resistance band the pull up gets even harder at the top of the movement and resistance lowers when you get closer to the ground
Why power snatch from the floor instead of high hang position? The transition from 1st pull to 2nd pull is so technical and the 1st pull is not supposed to be explosive too. Thanks!
How often should we be working on the mat in the off season? I know I'm supposed to be getting bigger faster and stronger and none of that is a problem for me, but I'm not sure how much mat time to continue incorporating noe that the season is over

Can you make videos about some double leg drills if you know any? Thanks a lot
Brilliant videos! 👍👍🥋😊
What exercises would you recommend for wrestlers 13-15 years old?
For the power snatch should the weight to be used be light enough to perform the lift as explosive as possible?
Yes, but you can ramp the weight and push the weight, but for wrestling will be generally lighter than a strength athlete
Cool. I'm really enjoying your helpful videos. By the way, I actually had the chance to meet the head coach of GMU. I think he used to coach Gwiazdowski.
Would sledge hammer work be a good substitute for medicine ball slams?
Sledge Hammer (alternating over the top and side to side hits), Landmine (Standing Russian Twist), Heavy explosive short sets of Battling Rope (alternating each rep Stir the Pot and Gorilla Slams)
Anything for getting better hips? I play juco ball and getting better at flipping my hips is one of my priorities along w explosiveness
I love this channel too
Glad you like the videos!
Are explosive weighted/jumping weighted pistol squats good for wrestling
More explosive box push ups?? Don't mind if I do?
🔥🔥
Do we have to do the strengh program before the explosive program?
You can do either or when you want 👍
@@GarageStrength Thanks because some people say that you should increase your strengh first and then turn it into an explosive in the next step. Is this true?
How many days a week you think a wrestler should workout in the off-season
Probably lift 3 times per week and try to get on the mat around 3 to 5 times a week if possible.
@@GarageStrength thanks
If I’m already following a program, how can I implement this motions to become even more explosive
Beyond sets and reps what else are you thinking?

What’s the difference between banded and weighted pull-ups? Don’t they all add resistance to your pull-ups
Weighted pull ups are great too but the amount of resistance stays the same as the weight around your waist won't change. With a resistance band the pull up gets even harder at the top of the movement and resistance lowers when you get closer to the ground
