Fr this (the message the show is sending I mean) doesn’t help the issue at all, I got blamed for Pearl Harbor as a third grader in class because my mom is a Japanese immigrant, I got bullied, and that messed me up for literal years. The fact that blaming literal children for things they had nothing to do with because of their race/ethnicity is being encouraged in this show is just wrong imo :(

@@Truffs_Stuffyeah like, WHY though? What exactly are we trying to get away with by changing the meaning of the definition? There’s that saying that “hurt people hurt people”. On one hand, you would think a group that knows what it feels like to be discriminated against, left out, or made fun of and bullied for their race or cultural distinctions would never want anyone else to hurt that way or experience what they had been through…but I sadly think the “hurt people hurt people” fact applies here a lot too for those so badly wanting to change the definition.
Using the excuse of “well I had it a lot worse so who cares how you feel you’ll never fully know pain unless you went through what I did” is also the exact same excuse a partner in an abusive relationship or an abused child would hear as an excuse from their abusive partner or parent who had once been abused themselves. They use their trauma and abuse they experienced in the past to justify treating others badly. It’s ultimately just an deflective excuse to block out any criticism or hold their harmful actions against another accountable. An excuse to avoid growing as a person and growing beyond your own pain to be be the better person than the people who hurt you.

Those of us in first world countries are extremely privileged regardless of our skin tone or ethnic group and on the topic of racism, I do believe racism can still be very rife in certain places in fact I've witnessed it first-hand but we also have the freedom of being able to speak up about discrimination and poor treatment, modern day slaves cant.

The Boshin war in Japan which lasted a year killed 8200, even the Six Years War only killed 20,000 and that was considered incredibly deadly. Man, I really feel that the whole "racism" bit in this episode is out of the blue really.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the FIRST episode where we see the triplets again in this reboot/revival. Until this episode, the only idea of the "Chang Triplets" that we have its just them in the og series where they where a bunch of stereotypical academically smart kids that did really good in school and sport. They ARE smart, we know that much.
Then enter this episode and it seems the the argument that Penny used is supposed to be "inviting any of the chang triplets to the group cus they are Asian, so they are smart" wtf??? And nobody really corrects said statement? At most Maya tries correct it as Penny just being a jerk, not racist, which still doesn't erase the ridiculousness of the argument.
Obviously, everything points out at the fact that the Triplets in this new series aren't supposed to he these smart-ass kids they were in the og series. Billy is more laid-back, and Debbie seems to not want to be seen as "a smart kid" anymore.
But honestly it still baffles me that this scene tries to paint it as if Penny just wanted them on the team cus they were asian, and not because they LITERALLY were the smartest kids in the og series that we knew.

I have a feeling that proud Families Main purpose as a show Was to put of bold and brave Statements about racism and Inequality. The kinda things where the Media would link in to say "yeah that's right" but they always kinda over shoot that Bar and say something that Comes off as aggressive and (not a pun) more Black and white than the actual complicated Problem so in the end they just sink in the mud and keep talking themselves deeper

I used to like the show up until that episode which just made me feel bad about myself as I’m Mexican American, but I’m pale as a ghost so I look like an average American (minus the blue eyes, and blonde hair) so it’s usually a surprise when people find out I’m from Spanish descent. Now I only have one American relative that bring my great, great, great grandpa who married my Mexican great, great, great grandmother, but at the time of watching this episode I didn’t know that and felt ashamed that I came from a slave owner that might have owned some of my Mexican slave relatives, but after finding that isn’t true I was relieved, but I’m still pissed off from the show about it. Yes I do have Mexican relatives that were slaves, but I don’t make excuses about it when I’m trying to win an argument I just honestly hope the show gets better

It never fails to astound me that people on the left get so angry about the existence of the Tuttle Twins, which is a kids' show biased in favour of capitalism/libertarianism, and then make something like this...which is just as biased, in favour of leftist talking points!
In all honesty, I believe that kids' shows shouldn't try to indoctrinate young viewers into a certain worldview...full stop!!!! Be it left, right or another socio-political ideology.
However, one thing to keep in mind is that the Tuttle Twins is technically an independent cartoon and is only available on smaller streaming services, usually already with a conservative slant, whereas The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is a Disney Channel show...about as mainstream as it gets! Thus, I think it warrants more criticism.

It could’ve been a fun slice of life comedy cartoon with stellar representation and occasionally go in to deeper topics like racism in an accurate and non forced way and have heartfelt interactions between the cast. But it really is none of those things.

By changing the definition they can call this to anyone they want and not be expected to be challenged for it.

They specify the abuses and damages.
They assign a dollar amount for their compensation.
    They pay the victim.
If the victim is deceased; they identify the closest living legal heir and pay them.

The problem with the show is the problem with most things that attempt to analyze society and the problems that plague it, the writers or executives who work on the show are generally armchair progressives (they’re usually just US moderates). They don’t really attempt to understand the problems and their causes but rather parrot a poor interpretation of the solution, solutions that themselves are debated and analyzed in an attempt to find reasonable compromises.
Disney as a corporation will never take a firm stance on any political action that will majorly effect their stock or sales numbers so you often end up with shows and movies that maybe had a good nuanced point initially but have been gutted to conform to the delicate sensibilities of the common US moderate. Tv show format itself also isn’t good for long form nuanced discussion unless it commits to the thing it’s discussing, sitcoms generally handle issues in a handful of episodes over several seasons whereas shows like the wire have the discussions as part of the main story itself.

I was so bored the entire episode i barely got passed it. I LOVED the proud family when I was younger. It felt amazing having a girl who looked like me be the main character in that time period, but my favorite episodes always had majority of the family in them. I wanted a family like that, and saw myself in Penny. Thats why I was so excited when the reboot was coming out. I praised how much this show would be even better than before. Ive never finished the first season, i was so freaking bored and upset that her friends are just as horrible as they were back then now we got Little Miss Know-It-All always around who doesnt even like Penny. She only likes her because of her skin color and it shows. This show stayed a dumpter fire when they decided to take this show and make it about race CONSTANLY. I know im black, I really dont care to be reminded of it, just how white people dont want to be constantly reminded of something that they didnt even do. My white friend in COLLEGE appoligized to me for what theyre ancestors have done after watching this episode...Like girl what are you on? I wasnt a slave and you werent a slave master calm down

I work for kids at an at risk center, and I accidentally opened up a can of worms by jokingly calling her racist for always trying to race her friends in the pool. She was like '...uh... whats that? Racist?' And it took me a second to explain it succinctly.
"You see how my skin is lighter than yours? Some people way back when used to think that the color of skin meant that I was cooler than you, or that you were cooler than me."
Her reply was great. "But you are so cool!"
"And I think you're really cool too, which is clearly why racism is stupid."
    "Yuh-huh."
    "Yep."
And i feel that this conversation alone did more for this kid than this episode ever could. One more point of pride for me, i guess 😅
