!!!!! PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING !!!! I know not everyone bothers to read descriptions or pinned post before commenting but I owe everyone an apology on what I said regarding VAs and how white actors played black characters. What I meant was that, that was how it was in the 2000s. And that since then, black actors have more lead VA roles. It's not racist to state a fact like that. I didn't say black actors should only voice black characters. I also didn't say white actors should only voice white characters. What I meant was Black Actors have more lead roles now playing black characters. And that white actors always played black characters in the 2000s. That is a historical fact. It's not racist to state a fact like this. The fact that it happened though, is a problem, and we need to remember this happened so it doesn't happen again. Because being a VA is to do with talent, not your race. Sorry for not making that clear. I will do better next time.
While I agree that there needs to be far more diversity in VAs, I find that if it’s the other way around - such as a black VA portraying a white, Latin American or Asian character (such as Phil Lamar playing Samurai Jack - who is a phenomenal VA in his own right, even having voiced Michael in the OG Proud Family) no one ever kicks up a fuss about that, making it a double standard. If a VA is chosen because their voice fits how the character’s voice was imagined to sound & that’s what the creators were focusing on, then they shouldn’t be shamed if they don’t resemble the character physically. Representation IS sorely needed, but to make it truly equal, don’t just focus on 1 or 2 specific demographics or minorities getting that or making the character’s key feature just about representation of a certain culture.
When I watched the episode I just felt bad of Zoey and the fact that she was the one to have to apologize to the group was the worst. Overall it just showed what a toxic friend group looks like
Disney had a chance to fix that dum friend group trope but didn’t. And for what? Also agree that Zoey did not have to apologize. That a episode was trash 🗑
@Chasformer That's a good question... The closest i have seen Dijonay actually get called out and face the consequences of being a toxic friend, was the episode where she pawned off her siblings to Penny to sneak off to that 3rd Storee concert. What bugged me though, was that Penny pointed out that Dijonay couldnt be trusted and STILL took her back anyways.
You know this one is faithful adaptation of the original when all of Penny's friends are still terrible human being with barely anything changed. Dijonay is backstabbing prone as ever and being shameless chonky snake, Lacienica is still a condescending rich mean girl like she always be, Zoey is passable but still a spineless follower she always be and don't let me talk about Maya, that brat is unbearably annoying and hypocritical. KG is OK tho.
@@christinalittleton3771 From what I seen some time she also the cause of Drama but a different type of drama that her other friends cause. @@alexismaldonado6396 All I remember is Penny canceling people, then Maya does it to her. If you need more proof she has the BLM fist in the corner of her Cancel Penny vid. With the stories of that group recently, not good. I mean one of the runners of that group bought a mansion with the donations meant to help Black Communities.
@@Olimar92 Also I could be wrong but I believe one guy involved in that group spent a ton of the money used to help black communities on porn, hookers, and strip clubs.
Here's the thing... While yes, Penny defended Zoey, it was never in front of Zoey, so Zoey saying that Penny never said anything is valid, because there is a difference between being stood up for, behind your back and in your face.
And when Penny tried to say something at the party, it wasn't even a real point. It was something ANYONE could have said. It was barely even a counter argument to their behavior. It was frustrating all around. I'm proud that Penny tried at least, but at the same time, she has very little backbone to their bullshit. Then again, they ARE only 14, so I can see why it'd be so difficult.
you're quite right. I was on the receiving end of 'friend-nemys' and I did have one friend, while she was too shy and scared of everyone else, she did have my back and she told me so many times - we were on the same bus - so she'd cry on her way home so upset that our so called friends were gaining up on me and that she was so sorry that she couldn't stand up for me. Which hits different than what Zoey was made to go through, but lets just say there's a reason why she's now basically like my sister and I don't really talk to half the people i thought were my friends in high school. I can see Penny and Zoey going the distance, because Zoey and Penny have a similar relationship that my friend and I had - at least post reboot. Zoey and Penny had each others back in the 2000's i wonder if they do in the 2020's.
@Belledandi I feel you! I had a friend that couldn't really talk back to our one friend bc she was manipulating her into abandoning us. She knew the girl was wrong for it, but she was only a high schooler. Once we were graduating, something happened between them, and she was our best friend again. She learned how much of a pawn she was for the girl, and she grew as a person from there. I don't blame her for not going against the girl, at all. It is what it is. She's with us still, and that's all I could ask for.
You all telling your stories about having friends is super heart warming, you seem to be a very good friends to others. I have never really had a best friend relationship in general, and when I do we will eventually move on. Sometimes the moving is painful as they hurt me and I really don’t understand why. If I were in the situation of defending a friend, I’m not sure if I could because I’m extremely shy and do not want to be an inconvenience to others. Make sure to treasure your friendship and be thankful for them.
@Caught in 4K She's been stuck with me for 10 years, and my other best friends have been around for almost 20! We tell each other how much we love each other all the time. I'm never letting them go, and I really hope you find a group as wonderful as them yourself 💖
Not to mention that when Noah walks in he walks past a “conventionally attractive “ white girl and doesn’t even look at her so from our point of view he went up to zoey because he was genuinely interested in her
I was having a crisis about this exact thing earlier this week. Still, we need to remember and assert that intent DOES in fact matter. To be so fixated on impact no matter how it’s reached, this will cause do much damage. Intent keeps us on track and allows us to remain true to ourselves. It reflects people’s character. I usually don’t comment but this matters so much to me. Hold strong, friend, and don’t get discouraged
There’s also the issue of what colorism even is. It’s the act of in-race racism against one another. So if Noah had gone for Penny because she’s not darker skinned, and said out loud he doesn’t like girls that are “too dark”, THAT’S colorism. Instead, he went for Zoey. Who is white. Not POC. So the blame was not only unfocused, but wrong, too.
As a black person myself, they REALLY dropped the this episode. It was just petty jealousy, plain and simple. First of all, they never even once confronted the dude. They just took Maya’s word and went with. No confirmation or nothing, just simple “he said, she said” scenario. The crew could’ve potentially had a case, if Zoey knew Noah liked white girls but went with it anyways because he was the only attractive boy to throw her some vibe. Then they would have some justification in their actions. But no, they were all jealous and they basically said a boy like Noah couldn’t possibly like someone as ugly as Zoey, so it must be because of her skin color. Again, they episode could have been a lot better and it just boiled down to “black is right, white is wrong” and it was so hard to watch
Something tells me that If Noah only dated Black Girls, Penny and the others probably wouldn't be making a big fuse about this. They probably just praise the guy for being so diverse. I'm not saying that to be offensive or anything. I love all people. But whenever I see the subject of racism and stuff, it's always White people that are the bad guys. Which I find to be so discriminating. Anyone can be racists regardless of their race.
It was really hard for me to watch this show. I mean why did Zoey have to apologize when they showed nothing but jealousy and pettiness to Zoey and two of them have boyfriends yet they flirt with the new guy. They even tried to justify themselves with no evidence.
Excuse me if my question is stupid. But I'm a German white woman in her end 40. I watched the proud family with my kids and now watch the reboot. But because of my age and because the episode took this topic so bad... I dont understand why it's bad that Noah is attracted to zoey because if her skin color. Isn't it the same liking someone for being blond? I'm deeply sorry if my approach is for modern young people rude. I just want to understand it. It's just a concept I never got confronted with. Thank you for reading and maybe understanding my situation... Greetings from Germany. ❤
@@carmenmuller2329 That would be a preference and is perfectly normal! You can absolutely prefer skin tones, hair colors, pretty much anything. It's when someone ONLY dates whites/blacks/asians/etc is when it usually becomes fetishizing, and therefore a problem. It also usually includes hating or mocking people who don't fit into your standards of beauty. In this episode specifically, the girls assume based on a rumor that Noah only dates white girls because they're white. He doesn't care about the personality, or interests, as long as they're white according to the rumor. Fair warning though, like other comments have said, this episode does not handle the topic well at all.
@@frankbrowder8978 nah Micheal says in the episode he has no horse in the race he’s just staying “loyal” he’s gay and finds the guy attractive but, he’s just being stupid and mean in the episode more so then Jealous at Zoey getting chosen
@@espio329 True, the entire episode is just horrid and tried tackling colorism in probably the worse way. All the characters suck and the writing makes everyone off character. If they just wanted to make an episode of dressing everyone up as Disney princesses than ffs do that instead of the shit they gave us. Also the reboot tried telling history in the final episode and basically gave false info or outright revitionist history too.
Maybe because it's possible for women to actually like guys and maybe its actually possible for relationship conflicts and or crush conflicts. Have you even been to highschool?
It genuinely disturbed me how quick they were to cut Zoey from the friend group. Lacienega who openly acts horrible to all of them gets a pass, but Zoey providing a possible explanation for a boy liking her is racist? And why did it take till the very end of the episode for the girls to say "Noah's the jerk, not you?" I genuinely with this ep gets taken down or something, it's awful to teach anyone
Am I the only one who was annoyed that Maya dressed up as Beyoncé when the theme was Disney Princesses? Like it’s like she purposely did that only to make some kind of statement when there was no need.
@Chasformer I feel like when you mention that, and I’m not gonna pretend like that’s the case because it likely isn’t, but this feels like you’re using the word woke wrong In the video it’s described that being woke is basically to be up to date in things such as about race and other stuff(kinda paraphrasing what she said) While it comes off here that you’re using more of the urban dictionary of it. Being woke in itself isn’t bad, as she mentions herself, but rather the issue was how they presented the character who was woke in a bad way
@Bob the Ball , @CyanFairyWren, @Skelebonz What the first repones meant, is that essentially Maya is just the manifestation of how “wokeness” is being interprétate and use in modern times. Although true wokeness means to be aware of racial injustices around you. Modern wokeness is all about finding problems were there isn’t, complaint and overblow said problems, and do it all not based not on the goodness of your year or for a good cause, but do it solely to be look like a good person and receive praise for “fixing” a problem. That is what Maya represents, basically does toxic individuals who you see on Twitter fighting for a good cause, but in the blink of an eye you see them act EXACTLY in the same manner as the people they are fighting against.
@@franciscorafaelmontielpale7854 this honestly gave a better understanding in what you meant tbh, she seriously feels like cancel culture if it was a person ngl
Honestly, the way this episode was written, it seems like it was originally going to be about them being jealous of Zoey going out with a celebrity, and then they just added the stuff about colorism at the last minute. I also think it was a mistake to have made Noah a new student and a celebrity in the first place. When he’s introduced to the audience, he’s going on a humble brag about going to a “normal school” to be seen as a “normal kid”. And since he didn’t know anyone at the school, it means that anyone he would have asked out would have just been for publicity. On my first viewing, I thought maybe they would reveal that Noah asked Zoey because she was the least conventionally attractive girl in the friend group, and was planning to use her to brag about how he “doesn’t judge girls for their appearances”. If they wanted this episode to work, make it instead about the group trying to figure out if the rumors about Noah are true beyond “Maya’s cousin said so”. Maybe check his social media for pictures of his old girlfriends, and then have them show Zoe these when they confront her. Then, if Zoe tried to deny their concerns or make excuses for Noah, the others would be justified in being angry at Zoe. Basically, you say in the video, if you’re going to talk about difficult subjects like colorism, you need to actually TALK about it.
@@humanperson2480 With how horrible the others were to Zoey (especially LaCienega) I almost wish that had been the twist just to give the girls some egg on their face. Maybe even have them admit that they were just covering up their own jealousy. It would explain why none of them actually tried to see if the rumors about Noah were true, and why they didn’t talk to Zoey about it before shutting her out.
@Human person I thought it would have been because he was only attracted to girls with glasses. Since that another physical trait that Zoey has that none of the main friends have.
Maya was bad in the original but everyone in the reboot is amped up even further. Maya in the OG was meant to be an example of a friend who follows their bad impulses.
I can only theorise this is a case of as an adult Penny will look back on her teen years and think “I cannot *stand* those women, why was I ever friends with them?” 😂😂😂
Make no mistake, the “friends,” on the proud family are one of the most toxic friend groups out there. But Maya is the worst addition to the show. She’s judging, preachy, and accusatory. She doesn’t explain or try and inform people of the problem, more as try to act holier than thou, and acting morally superior. While there is still other problems in the show. Maya is definitely the biggest one. One more thing. It is mind boggling that Penny is still friends with Lasienica and Dejaney. Lasienica constantly tosses shade at Penny, to the point I doubt penny even likes her. And Dejoney has countlessly ether stabbed penny in the back, sold left her hanging when Penny needed her, or blabbed about information she told her in confidence. Girls a rat plain and simple.
Maya is a paper thin activist. Her Basketball complaint, while meaning nothing in the moment, is not as bad as she thinks. Women's Basketball doesn't make the money Men's Basketball does. The WNBA would go broke if they paid their players the same as the NBA. To help those players she would need to help increase the revenue of the WNBA. Which she won't do as that would require being personable.
For real! Even Sugar Mama has said, multiple times, that Penny's friends are trash and that she should ditch them (though this might have been more directed at Dijonay than the rest of them). The only half decent "friend" is Zoe, and she's basically the sheep/gofer girl of the group. Like I know that in some circumstances you're just stuck with those who are around you, which seems to be Penny's issue but honestly I think she's better off bein galone than with her group of friends.
My thing about Maya is that she wants everyone to check their own privilege, yet she is a conventionally attractive straight girl from an upper class, dare I say even rich, family. One of her fathers is a successful detective and the other is a successful banker. They buy her nice things and make it possible for her to an activist. And while it is clear that she loves them, she never seems to want to acknowledge just how much that changes her own dynamics within society.
@@rosesweetcharlotte Maya is definitely in the school of thought that she can't have privilege because she is black. Her parents having money doesn't phase her because the world is built to be against her as a Black Woman. She seems to breed conflict more than she ever tries to help. Her reason for not supporting the WNBA is that it pays their players 1/20 that of the NBA, and doesn't seem to understand that the WNBA makes far less money than the NBA. Quick google search shows WNBA at 60mil and the NBA at 10bil. To pay the Women the same as the Men, the WNBA would basically have no money after paying a team, if the 9mil salary I found was accurate. Maya has problems, and feels like a plot device the writers use to get the ball rolling. Most of the stuff she does could be started either by someone else, or just something a Background Character says.
@@Olimar92 I don't think the point about the WNBA is that important. For one, the point about the WNBA is more that it doesn't get the advertising and push the NBA does. They could make it be as big, but they choose not to.
My issue is that the celebrity dude is never called out for being colorist, but the white friend who isn't at fault is punished And I also don't like how colorism in general was treated as an excuse the poc girls made up because they're jealous.
Colorism when it comes to dating is very stupid imo. One of the more bizarre and disturbing things out there that feel pushy and rapey. Sure, let's say someone is dating only white girls. What of it? Genuinely, what of it? It's their type. You can't force someone to be in a relationship with you and act as if they're being racist or colorist otherwise. That's an insane victim mentality that pushes forward some weird ways to force others into getting together with you without their consent, at least how I see it.
Maya reminds me of somone I went to collage with. She was very self declared as 'woke' and forced her ideas to everyone in seminars, lectures you name it she would start a rant. She never did anything to support people just complained and ranted. Once in a seminar our professor was asking about our favorite novels and I said mine and she interrupted said I couldn't have that novel as it was written by a black author and I'm white. I was honestly shocked and nothing made sense. I was in tears after her rant. She got called out by the class thankfully but she was just awful. And, I wasn't the only one she did this too for some reason and another. If you want to advocate go for it but there is a right way to do it and you shouldn't push ideals onto people or purposely hurt people.
yeah pushing people to submit makes do the opposite which is why the word "woke" is entirly a derogetory term because they became so toxic in pushing there idealogy that people asscioate toxcitys with the idealogy itself
@Mackenzie Carver Yup I was so upset. That novel I have adored for years and she was just out of order. Apparently according to her I can't like anything from black arthours or enjoy black prtsgonists I should like "white books" (I'm not sure what that even means) I think she was just a racist and she tried to hide it through her protests.
My response to this particular type of audience was always "Why do ylu then wear western clothing and use technology invented on the products of white people?" As if they are so deep into we must seperate things by race intesd of a healthy exchange and appreciation what is he/she doing? You then get ome of 2 responses. 1. They try to blow up on you how they have more rights to use western/white people invented products and practices but not the other way around. Outing themselves as hypocritical degenerates. Or 2. They run off because they realize they have no point. It shows you how they are indoctrinated to blindly follow repeatef talking points without ever givong it any critical thought. They cannot accept nor belive that this kind of thinking pisses on MLK and the dream to come together as one Society of equality and exchange.
I think the worst of it is that this also teaches kids that it's OK to assume and blame people based purely on assumption and rumors rather than fact and proof.
Penny wasn’t going to hurt her boyfriend for a date with a celebrity she was just Star stuck and didn’t care much for him like the others only caring that he was a famous kid going to her school. Also Zoey isn’t innocent people try to make it seem that way but she’s just as toxic as the rest of them multiple times has she alienated Penny and abandoned her just for the approval of the other girls
@@kuroo8484 The kindest thing I can call Zoe is a sheep. She is the "nicest" among Penny's friend group, but she's also the first to run along with the popular narrative, when she's not the one being ostracised ofc.

I like how Dijonay and Penny’s boyfriend made the point that maybe that guy just has a preference so why do you care and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. No one has the right to tell you that you are wrong to have a preference.
oh they will though using slippery snake words like "oh its fine to have a prefrence but are you sure thats your reason huh?" and other accusitory passive agressive comments as there way of saying they think much less of you for daring to have one THEY dont like.
They can use all the slippery snake words they want to and act passive aggressive if they don’t want a mature discussion. Being passive aggressive is such a low blow to a conversation that it just kills a conversation from ever continuing. No explanation is needed if they want to question your reasonings on your preferences. If they can’t accept that it’s their problem to work out not yours. Let the miserable stay miserable as the saying goes misery loves company.
@error-try-again-later he literally seems to only go up to her bc hes interested in her, not bc shes white. It kinda shames interracial couples to me bc they cant understand that he likes her for her personality, and just reduced them both to colour. They never even get her out of the relationship for her own saftey to not be fetish-ized, but to make a point that she cant date cute guys, let alone a black cute guy
the more I hear about this show, the more it feels like the showrunners legitimately don't know how to write positive female relationships. Sometimes it feels like they keep the friendships toxic just so they have a cheap tool for writting conflict. I get that when you're 14, you're not really emotionally mature and you're still very much a kid, but I've seen young teens written much better than this.
Even then though, my friends were hugely supportive and not jerks at 12. Idk if age is much of an excuse. I had maybe one friend in 11th grade who was a jerk and played it off as being “sarcastic”. I eventually had to drop her Cus of how mean she was and just the awful things she’d say in my face
I had toxic friends at 14 but I also had some good friends, and you're bound to see healthy friendships around you at _some_ point. It's honestly impressive how they can be this toxic so consistently.
I’m a dark skinned black woman. The truly ironic part of this episode is that The Proud Family, the original anyway, was already known for being kinda colorist. Sitcoms with black families almost always followed the pattern of dumb, dark skinned men and pretty, yet nagging, light skinned woman. Suga Mama is literally a walking stereotype of a black woman, and Dijonay’s original name was literally Delinquinetta. Like, we did not have good representation in this show lol. As for the colorism debate, I tend to stay as far away from it as possible. I think a lot of people overuse the term “preferences”, but I wouldn’t want to be with someone who didn’t want me anyway. Black women are statistically the least desirable group apparently, so I’ve just accepted that my dating pool will always be a little smaller than some of my lighter friends and family.
the proud family always kinda felt like it was made by white people trying to emulate black life, i mean i get white people can write whatever stories or characters they want to, but it just feels like they tried to target an audience without actually knowin anything about em
bwak women are the most indesriable because society has spent the last 20 years beating people over the head that the "natural state" of bwak women is fat angry and whinny. the worst part is this isnt coming from old southern hood enjoyes but fellow "MAYAs" like BLM who push this nonsense that effectivly "all sterotypes are true in real life and you must give people previlge based on them but in fiction its literally satan". which obviously hurts everybody they claim they want to help in the end cause again they are effectivily arguing FOR sterotypes.
I wish the disscuission went beyond just dating preference as that’s not the only form of colourism, studios often go out of their way to hire lightskinned Black women instead of darkskinned Black woman I feel the episode should have focused on how lightskinned Black people have more advantages over darkskinned Black people instead of treating zoey like a villain when she didn’t do anything wrong
@@spritemon98 Agreed. It’s actually pretty good. Some of the jokes drag out a bit, but it’s still hilarious. Also, I was on the fence at first, but I now love Be Cool’s take on Daphne.
They have the white fragility book in the second season. That book openly calls for the discrimination and even enslavement of whites by blacks. If you thought season 1 was bad season 2 makes it look like a holiday.
25:43 Penny may have tried to defend Zoey during the FaceTime chat but she didn’t do anything to stop the girls uninviting Zoey (even though she was the one hosting the party) or reassure Zoey that she wasn’t to blame & instead just goes along with it, given how surprised she was to see Zoey show up at the Princess Party & once the girls start verbally assaulting Zoey at said party, Penny may have screamed “SILENCE!” but didn’t call out her ‘friends’ behaviour & tell them how utterly awful they were being & saying Zoey deserved better from them - she basically said ‘let your feelings out’ which just resulted in them all getting one last jab at Zoey before they stormed out. Penny did the B.A.R.E. minimum when it came to standing up for Zoey.
Zoey's line after the party broke up got me the most. Penny trying to console her only to be asked, "Why didn't you say anything?" She had a million opportunities to defend zoey and she ignored all of them.
No joke. I dropped this show after only a few episodes because of how unbearable Maya made the show. Now after seeing the backlash of this recent episode on colourism, I'm sure glad I did. Like wtf, why were the girls blaming Zoey and not the ACTUAL alledged colourist guy that asked her out. Then they go on to act like nobody would ever realistically ask Zoey out in the first place which was why the situation was weird to begin with 😔 The writers really missed the mark on the message they were trying to convey.
Maya is very obviously a self-insert of one of the writers, and since one of them literally went the Seth Rogen approach and said that the only reason anybody would hate their show was if they were all white supremacists we can very clearly tell which writer Maya is a self-insert for
I really believe that this episode was originally just gonna be about Zoey dating a celebrity and then they added the colourism angle later on. It'd explain the strong emphasis on jealousy.
What bothered me more in that second episode was when they found the diary of a former plantation slave in the park and instead of bringing it to the public and revealing their discovery, the group kept the diary hidden. If the diary had been made public and published, their protest against the statue of town founder would have been much easier and more understandable. In addition, the episode was confused by the fact that when they researched information about the founder of the city, they found nothing in the archives or on the Internet (even though there was a scene in the episode where they literally traveled into the Internet with supernatural hacking skills, fought against online bots and found an old website that was blocked by a firewall, but I assume that this cyber surrealistic part was more their imagination). In any case, the statue of the town's founder was removed and their hometown was renamed after the plantation slave who wrote the diary but the lesson of the episode about how it was done was disturbing because important evidence should not be hidden under any circumstances.
@@Olimar92 I admit originally I liked the Juneteenth episode on the first watch... as it was the only episode I watched of the season it was from... and then it didn't make sense. Like, if Emily had buried her diary, it meant she was trying to keep it a secret but you'd think she'd have taken it with her. Honestly, it was disturbing the imagery they used after that horrible "SLAAAVES" rap/whatever it is they did in one of the episodes, just felt like it was in poor taste. Yes those horrible things happened, but... I didn't like the way the episode portrayed it. Nor, did I like how Maya and her dad both teamed up to gang up against Barry, when he didn't even do anything wrong really. I don't like the way they've been handling hot button topics (especially since, they made a big deal out of Maya having two dads in one episode, yet Michael is seen CONSTANTLY pining after boys, even getting angry in the case of Noah that someone wasn't into him and we even see him on dates with Make-Up Boy. Like, that entire episode plot would've been more interesting genuinely if it was Michael who got forcibly outed. In fact, it felt like that's what it was supposed to be, with the social media plot except someone last minute decided we needed a Maya episode so it was switched to be about her home life) and looking back on the Juneteenth episode, especially after watching things like Women of the Nation it was deplorable how they handled it.
@@EeveelutionStorm The Juneteenth was terrible. Barry is set-up as a bad guy, and for what? Not believing his daughter that his ancestor was a slave owner? Yes, she found a diary, but how and where? A ghost of a teen, who actually lived a full life, dug it out of a raised tree bed in a park. So the diary was found before as the place was said to have been a plantation and renovated into a park. Though with Emily living a full life and having a family, why didn't they get it? There's also the whole "The information is being hidden" subplot, and that goes nowhere. Is Wizard Kelly hiding it? With the POC majority of that town he would be a hero for ousting a slave owner. I don't care for that Slaves Rap episode. We find out that Brother Qwame, no idea how to spell his name, calls Zoe Ally. Not Sister, Ally. Zoe tends to get shafted in this show. I mean, the whole thing with Noah. That episode made me absolutely hate Maya. Just walking by with her nose in a book and goes "Noah only dating her because she white" and everyone believes her. They don't even confirm anything, and the rumor is from her cousin, who is never mentioned again. I also hated everyone else, other than Penny, in that episode as well. BLM members gone as far as to say my mother only went with my dad because she wanted black seed to ruffle her cotton field (their words not mine). and to make matters worse, they community themselves keep choosing those who break people down and not build them up and cry that they have no one. so basically mix races like me cant win because we dont have a people and when we do seek outside our own race for love or attraction we are seen as sellouts. on top of that, it also states: KNOW YOUR PLACE. and so what if someone has a preference, they have no obligation nor owe you a date because of your skin color. women can want tall men or muscular men (i fufill both) because they prefer them or have a thing for brickhouses (fat guys or big guys but good looking). heck even younger men (cougars). it is hypocritical for them to say that men cannot have preferences and they can (although women DO have a say who they can get in terms of the s word as they are the gatekeeper of that) and fun fact, Black men get more hate for interracial dating from other blacks (esp black women) then most other races (edit) i absolutely hate Maya. she represent the worst parts of the black community, self-righteous, self-important, called Penny a C**n (calling someone Uncle Ruckus IS THE SAME THING. funny enough a bunch of white people called me that when i refuse to bend the knee)
@@coffetrueno9791 he's a character from The Boondocks. his an ugly black man who hate black people and say he's not black, but has a disease that makes him darker skinned (think Michael Jackson's vitiligo but in reverse) basically a C==n to an ultimate extreme
I feel for you I do. I am not of mixed race but I have cousins that are and they went through this. The girl cousin specifically when we were teens expressed she had neighbors that would cuss and call her+ her brother bad names...I think you can guess what names they were. they were basically raised by their single white mother+ moved around from one hell hole to the next relying on I believe their mothers disability? Point is they were not well off at all, I am certainly only a tad better and tbh that's only because I live in a 100+ year old house that my grandmother owns and has paid off recently. tbh the more I look back at the time I spent with these cousins in particular the more I remember them bringing stuff like this up. The girl would always bring up her lighter skin and when we were middle school age, she would talk a lot about how kids at school would treat her. It breaks my heart that people treat mixed kids this way. Hell interracial marriage wasn't even legalized that long ago sadly and their talking about stripping it away in some states...I've dated black+ Hispanic men, I won't deny I've had people imply im racist or fetishing men of color for simply being ATTRACTED to them. Same with women (I am pansexual but it's not too important), With out knowing my own background or if I actually am dating them for THEM. I've seen my fair share of "keep your paws off OUR men" and black women complaining black men don't find them attractive but will go after 'white females' (their words not mine) while in the same breath be annoyed men of other races are flirting with them or are interested. The fact that people are so bothered about race when it comes to dating when attraction alone should not be why your with someone is disturbing to me. If your that bugged about it, your not mature enough to be in a serious relationship to me. Thats how I felt about this episode, it felt like little kids pushing an agenda they weren't mature enough to understand/ handle. it pisses me off more the ADULTS in this episode didn't try to do anything.
I wish Zoey would’ve just stopped being friends with them. The fact they put her down to her face just broke my heart. They disinvited her because of their assumptions about another person. It just makes me so angry.
and the show paints her as in the wrong essentially the message is "she deserved it". i swear this show feels just as hatefull to me as old yatzi cartoons talking about smolhats.
You all remember in the original series when penny wound up in that alternate universe where segregation was never looked down upon and in that universe she was no longer friends with zoey? She actually challenged society itself so she could be zoeys friend again she stood against the whole world to stand with her friend. Granted it was a dream at the end but still the fact is she had the level of loyalty she would stand against society to be friends with someone who was white. Here she didn’t display any of that.
24:54 Honestly I would be mad at Penny too. Yes Penny defended Zoey, when she wasn’t there. But when she was there, she didn’t say anything. And when she did say anything, she played peacemaker instead of calling out her friends for being wrong. And any opportunity Penny had to say anything to Zoey, she didn’t, which was what Zoey was disappointed by. Penny defended Zoey behind her back but did nothing when she was there where it truly mattered. You can’t be giving speeches about doing the right thing to your friends and say NOTHING when the person of interest is RIGHT THERE. Penny may not be as wrong as the others because she didn’t participate in the backstabbing but she wasn’t innocent either.
@@Lancehot No problem. I saw how people try to defend Penny but as I watch the episode I couldn’t help but be disappointed in her too. I’m not going to act like she’s guilty because she knows icing out Zoey is wrong but she did nothing to put a stop to it. I also forgot to mention how she enabled the lie as to why Zoey didn’t show up to the party if not lie herself and that’s what made her more guilty than anything.
@@Cherryarks I agree. Zoey is more of a follower when it comes to being part of the fun. Not as bad as the others but still bad. But this was one of those episodes where Penny could’ve done more if she really wanted to stand up for Zoey. If anything all of them are guilty for having some level of toxic behavior. But Zoey wasn’t wrong in this episode and the episode ended with her questioning if someone is talking to her or showing interest in her because she’s white or because they are legit interested in who she is.
Considering we already had Dijonay and LaCienega, I genuinely did not think Penny could make a worse friend with Maya. I'm halfway convinced this is somehow on purpose because it's unreal how unbelievably toxic ALL of Penny's friends are. TO HER FACE. TO ZOEY'S FACE. And this is never, in any series, addressed.
To be honest the fact that all these "friends" are being toxic as hell is on brand... Idk much about the the two new ones but the og girls are usually really toxic towards eachother. What i mean by eachother i meam towards Penny
@@Olimar92 true but you can listen to people while reading a book. Just because she isnt looking doesnt mean she isnt listening. Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt
@@soulslvr9562 Yeah, if you're reading a book during a serious discussion, like the episode in question, you don't actually care. She's just happy to say something everyone accepts. So her cousin only see's white girls with the guy. Never talks to him, and no one tries to find out. Maya thinks her cousin is 100% right and could never be wrong. She is not giving all of her attention, which means she doesn't care about the conversation. Have to wonder why she is even there.
@@soulslvr9562 I hate plot device characters. Maya could have been a half decent character, if she didn't jump the gun and goo off zero evidence. Her talk about the WNBA isn't as solid as one would think. The WNBA makes far less revenue than the NBA. There's a lot of things that go into any job and it's payment of employees. WNBA players actually take a larger percentage of the profits than NBA players. Women would be paid more if they could get similar crowds to the NBA. The slavery episode was ham-fisted, and they really made a lot of logic leaps for the plot. Like a plantation in a Union State that was made just a short time before the Civil War. Or a dairy staying buried after the land was renovated into a park. The box was barely covered in a flower bed. Maya is a wasted character, and has very little dimension. Granted her purpose is to be aware of things and say them, but nothing more. Show also has very poor writing.
The fact the group completely ostracized Zoey and think so low of her all because a celebrity chose her over them because she was "White" really begs the question, how are any of them friends to begin with?
Honestly I liked how they handle the proud family back in the early 2000s The Mya character is really what brings this show down for me she is a Control freak harsh ,unlikable, and doesn’t like to stray from her own views other Then that this show is poorly mishandled honestly I couldn’t get past episode one most of the things that I’ve seen about it are through clips that I’ve seen on UA-cam I am so glad you brought this up it’s not many people talk about the new reboot of the proud family
Even the show acknowledges Maya's flaws with Penny calling her out during the panda rescue, sing she's not protesting because she's doing what's right, is because it makes her feel good. But rather transferring that into some character development where Maya learns from that and gets better, it's just something that's tolerated among the group.
I don't really have a dog in this fight as I find The Proud Family as an OK show... ... But yes, you hit the nail on the head: Maya is insufferable and Zoey did nothing wrong.
For all of Disney’s talk lately of not subscribing to stereotypes, Maya herself is a stereotype; the young black woman (sometimes man, though recently it’s a woman) who won’t shut up about how bad African-Americans have had it in the past, constantly stating all the injustices of it all while being blind to the freedoms and liberties have now. She constantly shoved her morals down everyone’s throat and expects to be justified all the time.
I can't help but wonder if it's intentional on Disney's part, to push the idea that if someone calls out their racism then they must be irrational and overreacting.
I really hate what they did with the Proud Family they took something hilarious and charming with the Afro flavor and removed the charm and humor and filled it up with the things that annoy us about current entertainment
why does this shitte get to contuine but things like owl house which included woke topics in a postive non preachy non hypocrtical way GET F ING CANCLED.
Omg yes have the original on dvd and my new phone even the animation is better penny's smile and standing up for what she's told and believes in.....WHAT DO WE WANT MORE MONEY WHEN DO WE WANT IT
"I dont support anything that pays Women 1/20th of what a man makes" ....Do you know why they make less? Less ticket sales, less merch sales, less revenue means less pay. That's *literally* the issue, you dont go and put your money out to watch it, thus they make less because their work earns less back.
They don’t wanna listen to reason. They just want attention and to have drama to fight about. This whole world is just a bunch of adults who never grew out of their annoying drama teen phase.
Remember a few years back when the women's soccer team sued thinking they were being payed less than the men's team and it turned out they were actually being payed more than the men?
I feel like they went out of their way to make the noah as lightskin as possible while still being visibly brown to try and prove some kind of point 🤧 also what if he was just into gingers or braces or glasses or super tall girls she has multiple unique features in her group??? 😭
The episode is not even focusing on colorism but preference. The girls are saying and implying that no handsome boy would date Zoey unless it was because of preference. They wouldn't date a guy like Myron. They were all extremely TOXIC to Zoey all because of a person's preference
I would have loved it if Maya's "cousin" had been wrong and Zoey stayed with the celebrity boyfriend and that he was the one to confront the friend group after Zoey complained about them being shitty to her. Extra points if he debunked the rumours saying his "ex" had started the rumour because she was jealous of him dumping her or something. Idk.
@@BrightWulph I love this idea. It would teach kids not to listen to rumors, to try find out the truth, and not to be jealous and toxic to a friend… especially not based on unsubstantiated rumor said friend didn’t even know about.
If that guy said "Sorry, but I'm into Asian chicks", would the girls (and Michael if the guy swings that way or both ways) get mad at the Chang triplets for being Asian, or would Maya be the only one with common sense?
I wish I could take this show and it’s issues seriously, but it is so hard when the show refuses to tackle its biggest most obvious issue: toxic friendships
I despise this episode. The fact that Penny and her friends, her and Dijonay already having boyfriends by the way, get jealous over a celebrity liking Zoey, who just so happens to be white. They say the rumor is that the celebrity only dates white girls, they dont do anything with this. Its just instant jealousy. Its like dating preferences dosnt exist in the show. Hell Zoey brings up how Myron has asked her out many times, does that mean he only dates white girls? Its actually a great point that gets tossed aside. And the fact that nothing is done with the celebrity and ZOEY had to apologize about the group's toxic attiude, this made me mad.
I fully believe that this episode was originally just gonna be about Zoey dating a celebrity and then they added the colourism angle at the last minute.
Did you notice that the girls are also all dressed as Princesses that match their own skin tone/ethnicity. Penny and Dejonay are black, so they dress as Tiana and Brady!Cinderella. Lacienega is Hispanic, so she dresses as Elena of Avalor(good show, highly recommend, severely underated), Zoe is Merida because she's a white redhead, Michael is obvious and they pointed his out, and Maya doesn't get a Disney Princess because they ran out of POC Princesses. The episode is supposed to say "colorism is bad", but the girls all picked their costumes based on which Princess matched their own ethnicity. Trudy is the only outlier, choosing to dress as a white French Princess instead. Surprised she wasn't dressed as Halee!Ariel to keep up the hypocrisy.
And then Maya goes dressed as Beyoncé because she is not like other girls. *This next section is hot water SO PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.* I remember some articles saying that the whole reason Halle Bailey was casted for Ariel wasn't because of the sake of diversity (Which at this point I learned to not care for, blackwashing it's for me the least of my problems with Urban dictionary woke people), but because Beyoncé (Who Is aparently Bailey's Godmother) told the director to give her the role. If This Is true, Maya dressed as Beyoncé mirrors how both of them use the issues of the world towards the black people to push their own, personal agenda. Again, if I'm wrong, correct me.
@@luissantiagomijareso.2450 Personally, I feel like the only time blackwashing ever really serves a positive purpose is in fan art. If you're creating a movie or a show based on a pre-existing property, and you want to add a little diversity to the cast, then you should create a new character. Blackwashing a pre-existing character in official media is just a lazy way to say "look how progressive we are" without actually being progressive. Only exception I would allow is if a character was originally black, white washed for years, and then turned back into a black character. Like April O'Neal. Not a lot of people realize that the original depiction of her was black, so making her black in the latest TMNT movie was actually a good thing.
Plus, didn't Michael say something about Pocahontas helping him to embrace his heritage when the movie's portrayal is actually quite insensitive? Disney really just patted themselves on the back for nothing lmao 💀
On top of all the colorism issues, seeing Zoey being told she would never get asked out because of the way she looks hurt me to the core. I'm a pale red head with freckles who also wears glasses, I looked a lot like Zoey growing up actually. And there's always been this weird unspoken agreement throughout the media that people with freckles, glasses or red hair are ugly. And sometimes it is just out right stated. I feel for all the red headed little girls out there who watched this and watch other shows/movies where who they are is shown to be ugly and not up to modern beauty standards. I also take issue with the fact that even though the guy was the one allegedly going out with only white people, the blame was all put on the girl. This is actually very common in hetero relationships where the woman who did nothing is punished and the man gets off with little to no consequences. It is an issue of not only colorism but gender as well.
I enjoyed the original, proud family, but I hate this reboot. I do not agree with a single position that this reboot takes on any issue that I have seen it cover. And if you look a little bit further, you find out the producer for the show designed Mýa as a self insert, in order to push her own political agenda into the show, which shows very clearly. Especially given the fact that what they do say about several of these issues is wildly skewed towards the political narrative of one particular group and isn’t even accurate or in touch with reality. For example, them making an episode to deal with a town founder being a slave owner… When the town is situated in California, which never had slavery to begin with.
I think the boondocks pulled it off with the brother who was an activist forgot his name I think Riley. They should have taken inspiration from that. Never really thought about it much about him being a preachy annoying character cause he was written really well written.
@@soulsurfer7702 No Riley is the brother who acts all “gangsta”, Hughie is the the kid you are referring to. Hughie is by far the best representation of an activists and that boy is the true definition of “woke” (not the modern one). I am surprise they do a reference to the show by never truly learn anything from it.
Shows like this are proving something I find more and more true as the years go by. Most creators, not all, only seem to care about the animation or message of the thing they're making and not the writing. I've never seen this show in full, but from the clips I have seen I honestly feel like Hollywood or any studio in general end up hiring bad fanfiction writers to do the writing. I often say to not judge a book by its cover. Because I do think good things can come from something that may have a strange or even bad outward appearance. But this is just the kind of show that makes me just want to rewatch something from the 80's to 90's. Cause at least I can have a good time watching it.
The main problem with this episode is that it relies too much on telling and not enough on showing. If they really wanted to have Noah only want to date Zoey because she's white, we should have actually gotten to see this from him, as opposed to the characters just being told about this aspect of him. Penny and friends should have actually gotten proof of Noah being colorist beyond the word of Maya's unnamed cousin who they've never met and who they have no way of contacting
You know what's irked me alot about some people who watched this show? they will say that "maybe Penny's [insert friend here] will have some character growth and become a better person later on!" And I can only think to myself: There's been an entire SHOW'S LENGTH worth of time for that character growth to happen, but it never did, and if there was ever the time for that growth it would have been at the start of this reboot.
Maya would have worked better if they had written her as a full activist OR made it really REALLY blatant she's supposed to be a hypocrite...having her on the fence of the two just makes her seem like a hypocrite but you know that's not their intent so you can just tell it's bad writing by people who either don't understand activism or don't like activism and want it to go away... The fact that they had Penny and Dejonay both with boyfriends but going after the actor was really gross...Especially as they're two black girls and there's a lot of bad stereotypes already around black women in relationships that they seem to just be playing into. Then, nobody even bothers to tell Zoey about the alleged colorism (alleged cuz at that point in the episode it was just a nasty rumor and for all they knew it could have been fake and he could have genuinely liked Zoey) instead of making it seem like they only cared cuz Zoey is the 'ugly duckling' of the group. I totally get why Zoey was so upset and I'm floored at how utterly toxic this friend group still is in this reboot. It was the biggest thing I was hoping they'd fix but nope, I still can't understand why any of these people spend time together. I know a lot of us allowed ourselves to be mistreated by 'friends' growing up and I can't help but wonder if shows like the Proud Family and teen drama shows might have accidentally made us all believe that toxicity is normal and that we HAVE to always make up at the end and be 'loyal' no matter what...
Sadly Maya is an accurate representation of modern activists. It’s all about them and not really the cause the claim to fight for. Not to mention this type of toxic activists are the type of people working on Disney more and more often, so seeing Maya in this show is no surprise to me.
@@franciscorafaelmontielpale7854 i don't think it's fair to paint all activists of the time that way. it's been a trend for generations. there will always be groups that support JUST enough to feel better about themselves but won't go further. it's why so little has actually managed to change.
@@StonedHunterYeah at the same time though, modern activists causes more damage than it helps. And the media, Disney included, vouches for them. They're even writers and producers for Louder and Prouder
Everyone loves activists when they agree with their cause, and rational people can respect activists they disagree with. The problem is when the activists take an "ends justify the means" approach and/or they don't have their facts in order. For instance, lying about the gender "wage" gap. Even calling it a "wage" gap is a lie, because the way they actually get the numbers is by looking at the total earnings at the end of the year. Despite the fact that my job is unionized and our wage is decided by group contract, I still earned more than many of my coworkers because I worked more hours, cashed in personal days instead of taking them, and worked holidays. But all of that would be ignored to claim I had a higher "wage" than my female coworkers. The wage is literally the same, the difference is in earnings. And that's just being charitable and pretending they actually do look at the exact same job position to find their numbers, which they don't.
Considering Disney is a corporation with a...not great history when it comes to prejudice, I can't help but wonder if it's intentional on their part. Like giving kids the idea that anyone who calls out systemic racism is overreacting.
This episode was petty mostly how they gang up on Zoey because they was rejected by this celebrity guy and put racist fact just because he like white girls, heck Zoey shouldn't have to apposite because she never got any date or boyfriend before then her friends did, I was happy, I wanted Zoey to be happy, this episode shown me Zoey better off without her friend, same with penny
There is also the fact that it makes no sense for Noah to only have liked Zoey because she was white. If being white was all that was required then he would have chosen the first white girl that he found attractive he laid eyes on (which happened to be the one he blew a kiss to when he enters the cafeteria and went to the dance with after he and Zoey were over). He wouldn't have walked past several people to get to Zoey if the only thing he was thinking of was her skin color. There's also the fact that they picked Zoey (the white girl) instead of one of the lighter-skinned black girls like Penny or LaCienega to show colorism. According to the definitions I found (one of them being shown on the video at 17:18) colorism typically or at least often occurs between people of the same race or ethnic group. Alice Walker, the one believed to have coined the term colorism in 1982, defined the term as "prejudicial or preferential treatment of same-race people based solely on their color". So it could for example be shown as someone believing lighter-skinned African Americans are attractive and darker-skinned African Americans are not or someone believing lighter-skinned African Americans are better than darker-skinned African Americans. Based on this it makes no sense to use a white girl instead of a black girl to show what colorism is in a kids' show when it usually occurs between people of the same race. Using Zoey (especially without using the word colorism) makes kids just think of racism (a word they are more familiar with) and not colorism specifically (a word they may have never heard of). The episode would have been better if they had used LaCienega or one of the other lighter-skinned black girls in the school (one of the single ones so Penny is out), actually showed Noah treating her and other lighter-skinned people better than the darker-skinned people (outside LaCienega's sight or toned down when he is in front of her so we can keep similar drama between the friend group), had the group noticing these differences in behavior and put all the facts together figuring out Noah is colorist (we can keep Maya's cousin's part if we change her to have gone to school with Noah before thus noticing his behavior and making her recounting previous instances of his colorism further evidence he is colorist), had the group warn LaCienega about Noah's colorism and LaCienega angrily claiming they are just jealous of her dating him (her having no idea he is colorist because he hides/tones down that side of himself in front of her), let the friendship drama happend with both sides being angry at each other (keep the being uninvited from the party bit and move the talking behind her back stuff to happen after their argument, but add more drama by making the delivery of the information to LaCienega be explosive with anger and add sadness on both side by showing the friend group missing LaCienega), added a 'reveal' where Noah's colorism became obvious to LaCienega (reveal can happen naturally or slightly aided by the group, location of the 'reveal' could be before or during the dance just make it be public) leading to her berating him for his bad behaviour and ending the relationship, made all of them all apologize for their behaviour and revealed they all missed each others friendship, ended the episode with the group having fun at the dance with Noah being alone in the background (who is there alone because no one wanted to go with him, add some salt in the wound by having him greet the girl from the beginning that he blew a kiss to only to have her turn her back to him and walk away). You could instead make some other changes, but these are the ones I came up with that would change the least amount of content in the actual episode.
This is much better. Zoe should have gotten a separate episode about white privilege if they needed her to learn a lesson (like, maybe the friend group gets caught/framed for doing something against the rules and she's the only one who doesn't get in trouble.)
childhood ruined...And yes being Woke now is just you being a hypocrite without knowing a damn thing and being the thing that you hate... and I hate. Listening to both sides of the story might actually help you in the long run. At least this is how I see woke. Both sides to every story is important because you can use your mind to make a decision. Your own decision. That episode made me so angry just for the fact that the girls were jealous and didn't look into it more like it was the worse episode.
Actually you're right. A lot of "woke" slacktivisits, only do this activism, to look good. The irony is, that Maya's entire character proves she's a hypocrite, down to her upbringing. She was adopted, by two rich men, who are clearly uber affectionate and adore her and she was clearly given a silver spoon when she was adopted and has never had to struggle for anything. She gets to do whatever she wants, without consequences, her fathers don't even get angry at her for RISKING HER LIFE and actively trying to cause harm. She's never punished for breaking into the Zoo, trying to FREE A BEAR with no care of how that animal felt about it. Just "LET HIM OUT AND CAUSE PROBLEMS" and also risking getting attacked, she's never punished for bullying Penny and cancelling her (PEnny needed her ego checked, but damn if I wasn't on her side for cancelling LaCienega) and even COMMENDED AND PRAISED for what she does. The reality is, that she is a spoiled hypocrite, who gets to benefit when others aren't as woke as her but lives by these rules, cause she wants to feel special. She's not an activist, she's a slacktivist.
it always was "wokeness" as a idealogy was always a unoriginal toxic parasite that claimed it was every previous civil right movement combined whin in reality they stood on the shoulders of giants soley so they could take a higher piss on peoples heads.
Shouldn’t matter what race you actually are when voice acting a character. The voice should be what works best for the character. That’s supposed to be the beauty of voice acting as it allows anyone the ability to step into any role no matter how they look. We shouldn’t put people in a box and restrict what they can voice act based on race. That’s actual racism. Doesn’t matter if one group was underserved in the past. Progressivism should be about taking ideals forward and not being held down by the past. A lot of progressives forget their liberal roots and are becoming regressive in their quest for their “justice”.
To the best of my knowledge; the primary reasons Penny tolerates Lacienega is because her parents are friends with Lacienega's and most of the others in her peer group liked her. It always seemed less like they were friends and more like she was the anchor around Penny's neck that she had to put up with in order to keep peace in the group. Every so often in the original show their goals would align, they were fans of the same thing, or they happened to be involved in the same event; but it was rarely something either girl would go out of their way to involve the other in if they had foreknowledge of it. It's weird because I know Penny has saved Lacienega from public humiliation at least twice, but the petty little bitch still treats Penny like she's a serf while she's a princess.
Tbf I feel like that's quite accurate to real life, when you're a kid there's usually that one "friend" who you're just kinda stuck with. The fact she's never called out or made to change her behaviour is sending all the wrong messages tho.
@@error-try-again-later True that. I hate that kind of thing, the no-call out/no change thing, in fiction and I hate it in reality. Sadly, it does happen; so it's at least realistic.
I am so glad I grew up with shows like That's So Raven, it did play a part in helping me, as a person who is not a poc, to understand and take in these issues.
as some who has dealed with this has being a hispanic with white skin and having a black girlfriend we have dealt with people having a problem with us being and the zoe episode kinda made me mad cause my lord it brought back bad memories of what me and my girl had to deal with back in high school
I feel that they've completely forgotten what made the show popular in the first place, how it kept its comedy and drama in a nice steady balance, so there would be something for kids to enjoy but also young adults, now they focus everything on trying to be relevant to todays issues, to make a point and look like it's matured and become more intelligent, ultimately missing the mark by miles and turning so much long time fans away.
I never watched the episode. It sucks Penny's friends still treat her so horribly. The one cartoon I did see actually cover serious topics better had been the Tuttle Twins, a kids show that was made to teach economics surprisingly.
I heard someone that said:"the episode started as an episode about colorism and end up as an episode about friendship that somehow ended in a bad way "... I feel it's sad we can see both topics in different parts. But they end mixed and only gave me the feeling that they shouldn't be friends :c.the main problem was left in second term(almost just a rumor) and the end felt sooo weird, it was sad cause it's an important topic.
Honestly I've not seen the show, but clips. End of innocence Should have been more about how the where worries that the famous guy might have been useing Zoey for a PR stunt. And herd a rumor that he only dates white girls. But then when she ask he gets hurt by the accusations. He stays "I like tall girls, I like red headed girls, and I like girls in glasses, I like girls who don't throw them self at me. But what I don't like girls who believes in rumors." And a few days he's latter seen with another girl that fits his preferancrs. Moral of the story: Don't belive gossip & Rumors
@@jamesmcdonnell2455 I was givin an examples for why he was interested in her. The point still stands, he was accused of something with out the proof of the action. They blindly accepted Maya word, about the guy, with out proof.
I watched the “end of innocence” to see if it really was as bad as people say, and let me say, it is one of the worst pieces of media I have ever watched. Boy has Disney gone down hill🤦🏽♀️
Sad to say, but woke has now become synonymous with being insufferably patronizing and sanctimonious by shoving personal politics in everyone’s faces via media, rather than exploring political themes and ideas with nuance while telling a story.
To be fair, the odd one out of the Disney Princesses, would've either been Snow White, Rapunzel, Elsa, Anna or Aurora. Aurora, especially due to her being reared in the wilderness by 3 fairies in disguised. With how isolated she was growing up, she'd probably had to be taughter some social cues by Phillip and her parents. As for the episode, it would've been better had there been more focused on Noah and the REASON for his colorism. Perhaps it's pressure from his parents/manager to (racially) "date up". Or show a tragic backstory where Noah was bullied by girls who happen to have darker skin tones. When finding this out, Penny and Zoey could console Noah and help him let go of his prejudices.
Or just have him actually spout out some racism about darker skin women himself and then remind him that he is a black man insulting black women just to get ahead. And that he isn't treating Zoey as a person but as a trophy.
@@rosesweetcharlotte also if they pointed out to him that he's pretty light skinned himself, and thus might have been treated better by the industry than a darker skinned boy.
As a white person married to a black person, this episode was so insulting. All this episode dose is plant the idea that if a person of one race loves some one from another, it's because they're colorist. It just sickens me.
I'm from America and I wanted to correct you on something. There were a lot of black sitcoms growing up in the 90s and 2000s. Freah Prince Family Matters The Cosby Show (yes, Bill is evil but we didn't know yet) The Wayne Bros Sister Sister Smart Guy The Parkers Moesha Parent Hood Martin The Steave Harvey Show Hangen With Mr. Cooper A Different World The Jamie Fox Show Living Single The Berine Mac Show Boondox Everybody Hates Chris I would say half the sitcoms I watched growing up had a black cast. However now that I'm thinking about it I realize I can't name that many sitcoms from those decade's that had a cast that was Asian, Hispanic, Middle Eastern or Native American. Sitcoms back then were pretty much either had a white or black casts......I just realized how messed up that is. The only show I can think off from back then at the top of my head that broke that mold was "All American Girl" which had an Asian American cast, but only lasted one seasons and was pretty much forgotten.
FYI bill was found innocent. I also find it interesting that they falsely accused one of the only black men that supported and called for young blacks to build strong character, work hard, and have a family.
Alright, I gotta ask. Why does it matter to have people voice characters of the same race? Is that not itself, limiting and also checking off a box of modern tokenism? What should matter is the quality a person brings in voicing a character. It's fine to ask for representation, but people should be asking for good representation in fields where it is necessary. Otherwise, we will get awful writing/shows from the past few years that try to hide behind their usage of certain groups (the Velma show being the most recent egregious example).
This "Louder and Prouder" episode was difficult to watch. When I was in high school between 1998-2002, interracial dating was very common. There was just no issues with it. It strikes me odd that in 2022-2023 there is an issue now...or at least this storyline tries to portray there is an issue. I'm unsure when production began for season 2 of Louder and Prouder, but if it was during Bob Chapek's reign as CEO, then it does explain some things. The theory is, he and his leadership team (aka former Wall Street Executives) were involved in the creative processes of different projects going on at Disney. Michael Eisner and Bob Iger were more hands off and let the creative teams do what they do best. I would say for me the first episode of "Louder and Prouder" that threw me off, was "Bad Influence(r)" which was the second episode of season 1. While it was a heavily exaggerated story line, the level of meanness in was off putting. It gives kids the moral lesson that you have to be an as* or a bi*** to become the next social media influencer or a UA-cam Vlogger. It abruptly ends on a good note, but how it reaches that good note left a sour taste in my mouth. That seems to be the theme of Louder and Prouder, characters are more mean in nature, even Wizard Kelly, he's more sinister and mean than arrogant and prideful. Listen and compare to Aries Spears' voice from the original series to this series. The only episodes that I think feel like the original show, are "Old Towne Road part 1" and "Old Towne Road part 2." This was the more genuine writing and voice acting I remember. One last thing: why is Disney allowing swearing in a cartoon aimed at kids? I've caught a couple of times the word "damn," and "Hell" being used...and not in sense Frollo used in the "Hunchack of Notre Dame." Edited to add: I believe Penny and her crew are still middle schoolers in "Louder and Prouder."
because now due to BLM its seen as "the cool noble thing" to do by embracing sterotypes and treating cacasians like literally subhooman devils who need to apologize at all moments to any POC in sight to be deemed "one of the good ones"
The episode with the celeb guy could've been handled so much easier. 1 of 2 ways either A you have the friend group all on him and he seems distant or dismisses them and is drawn to Zoey. They accuse him of being colorist racist not interested in them for their color. Zoey says no he's nice to others and me. It's revealed no he wasn't colorist at all he was distant because the others had boyfriends and he didn't wanna entertain that and Zoey was single. So the group apologizes for presuming something about him. And show you can have a preference but not be colorist or racist. Or B have him be the bad guy, that yes he puts down the rest of the group behind their backs. And praises Zoey for her skin. They get evidence of him bad mouthing others for their racial features and shows he's into Zoey because he finds that superior. Zoey hurt apologizes when she didn't know anything and you have the guy loose his fame kicked from school for being racist. Like it's a simple message. You can like who you do and have preference that's ok as long as you still treat people with respect. As long as you don't put others down because their race praising another for that or fetishize a race then do what you want.
Cartoons from 2000 to 2010 or 2015: Handles serious issues with grace and common sense and had morals. Cartoons from 2016 to 2023 and counting: Handles serious issues though the lens of cultural vandals. But yeah, modern writing seems tick as many boxes as possible, bring up "issues" and modern cultural issues only them POORLY. How do shows from 10 years ago act more mature about these issues vs now where they are handled in a manner that can only be described as Childish. Like Social Commentary and issues NEED to be handled well or it just alienates people. Mia seems the embodiment of a "twitter activist" i believe is the correct term. IE the people that constantly complain about "issues" but never actually do anything about it, so they do everything possible to get everyone else to help with said cause for them. I'm still surprised this kind of writing is even allowed, like its not even low key racist, its just BLUNT Racism.
Maya is very clearly a self-insert, and since once of the writers took to Twitter and said that “only racists hate our show” and has galvanized an audience full of unthinking yes men and enablers who parrot her obviously-racist talking points, I have a hunch that that is the exact writer Maya is a self-insert for
It was that one episode that nearly made me rage quit. If it wasn’t for the next one actually being good or fun I would’ve completely swore off it with no hope of it improving.
A much better premise for the episode would be that Noah asked Zoey out and her friends were happy for her at first but then they find out that he only dates white girls. The conflict would come from the group not wanting to break zoes heart but also thinking she needs to know the truth. Maybe when they tell her, she gets defensive and accuses them of being jealous, only to learn for herself that they were right. Then she would apologize to her friends and dump Noah and maybe for extra effect the group can get back at Noah somehow by exposing his colorism or something. Then again this would only work for a group of friends that actually care about eachother and these characters clearly hate eachother....
Been kids, Static shock, lil Bill, and the boondocks are tv shows off the top of my head. Saying they're aren't many black shows during that time period is misinformed. Voice acting is a profession where literally your voice matters. By that logic only Japanese people should be voicing anime.
A better example of a woke character done right is Huey freeman from the boondocks. He is known to be an intellectual, rational, Well educated, yet ambitious child. what makes his wokeness quality likable is his ability to comprehend the problem and point out the flaws to various characters were going through different situation and problems
the other reason this was a bad episode is that the girls have no right to another person finding them attractive or wanting to date them. to say his dating preferences are a problem is the same as in this case a woman saying a gay man not wanting to date them is a problem/ people find attractive what they find attractive. it is not a choice. trust if if it were their are many guys i wouldn't have been attracted to/. The reason the that's so raven episode worked was because it was something raven should have had a shot at but didn't for reasons outside of her Controle.
This show was always just "ok" to me, it never seemed all that well written, and i remember hating Lacienega and Dijonay too lmao. I do want to see it again and a liiiittle of the reboot to give it a fair chance. This doesn't give me much hope though. Everything you mentioned in the video could still exist in the show IF the writing was good enough to use the character's flaws to make good stories, instead of just hammering in one viewpoint all the time. Like if Maya being so self-righteous was used as a starting point towards them actually growing as a character that would be neat to see! But i guess not lol
I agree wholeheartedly. That was my first impression of Maya in the first place, I thought she had existed to show the viewers the wrong and right ways of wanting to push progressivism. The first episode with her introduction could've been a good turning point of her character imo, and I feel like they're been lacking in utilizing her because I believe their could be a great way of showing when too much is too much to children, even if the ideas are inherently substantial in some compacity.
Dijoney: What's wrong with us? Me: Well.... 1. Lacienega is a mean girl who takes advantage of others. 2. Maya is an activist parody who's essentially starting a rumor. 3. Michael, I'm sorry. But I doubt Noah's into dudes. Course that opens up another can of worms. 4. And Dijoney, you already got a man who you sent away. Even if you didn't, you're not exactly the most trustworthy of people. I mean, there's not exactly much to say about Zoey, but whatever Noah sees in her is his business.
@Chasformer I hope not because that would encourage toxic behavior as though you can force someone to like you or forcing others to be the same orientation as you. You can’t force a relationship.
The thing with how Woke, was changed is largely due in part to those that used it. You kept seeing people all over social media and the news trying to just constantly screech and beat people over the head about how you can't enjoy anything because everything is problematic, or some variety of -ist or -phobe. So over time woke just came to be used in relation to those types of people.
I will say that is well said Maddie and I do agree with you. I do remember watching the original Proud Family and I might have to watch that again at some point and there are some good stories I got a good laugh out of as a kid. I will say this that Disney should use their TV shows as entertainment and not political use, but you could add a lesson to the story and have the kids learn from that lesson and what Maddie said about That's so Raven episode and I don't remember watching that episode and that is also a good example of a lesson to learn for kids. Also, I do agree what Joey Turner said in the comments that The moral of the story... never trust modern Disney to try and handle a controversial issue, they'll stumble at the finish line doing more harm to an important topic than good and they'll only do it for checkboxes. And to be honest he is right about that. I think Disney is just doing this for political reasons and if they were doing a show that was political, they would make me lose my interest in a TV show or a movie.
I gotta wonder why the writers thought talking about colorism from dating point of view was a good idea sense dating is a personal thing that varies from everyone.
Because unfortunately is has been a point of contention for a while now. If you look at TikTok, you have people whine about how no one would date a bigger women, trans women, black women (of the darker variety) ect. We're at a point where we want consent but if it hurts someone's feelings. Even celebrities like Michael B Jordan gets called out for it not too long ago.
I think that what many people dislike about “woke media” is when the creators of said media put the message they are trying to broadcast above the actual story. Like, it’s one thing to tell a story and attach a message to the side, but when the story itself is back lined in favor for broadcasting a message then that’s when people start to get irritated. An example I can give on how to do this well is when Lucas Films wanted to bring light to an issue with African Gangs practicing illegal slave trades and how governing bodies were putting little effort into actually stopping these illegal activities. The producers for Star Wars episode 1 decided to shoot the Tatooine scenes in the Republic of Tunisia (in North Africa) and have the story behind said scenes the issues Anakin Skywalker goes through while being treated as a slave to show the audience how bad it is to live as a slave. They also presented the issue with governments not trying to end these activities by having a character state that “The Republic doesn’t care to enforce anti slave laws in these parts of the galaxy”. The Tatooine scenes in SW episode 1 discuss an import issue, but the relevance of story is not outweighed by the political messaging. On the other hand, it’s really hard to claim that “the story isn’t back lined by the political message” in this reboot for the Proud Family when there is literally a scene where the characters spend 5 minutes lecturing the audience directly about how bad and racist America is and that African Americans deserve repressions. Like yeah… I really like the idea of a bunch of suburban teens lecturing and shaming me when I’m trying to watch an animated sitcom. EDIT: Not everything about the show is about “broadcasting a message”, there do appear to be some aspects of it that are still focusing on the story first and foremost. But it definitely does feel like some parts of the show have been made into something that is intended to “broadcast a message” more than it is to “tell an interesting story”. Like there were some people behind the scenes with the decision making who decided that certain things needed to be added into certain parts of the show. I honestly cannot watch some of these scenes and think “Oh yeah, this scene was definitely added for only storytelling and NOT to just shove a message down my throat”. I feel like the character Maya is a catalyst for this “broadcast a message” theme.
I agree about the colorism topic. In school I get sick and tired about the colorism topic bc it's always been light skin hate darker skins. When really from my point of view it's the other way around. Further more when I hear about colorism and only black history no other ethnic groups of history, it makes me wanna walk out of the classroom. I wish they can teach other ethnic history groups bc I'm interested in others versus just one ethnic history group.
@Emily Elizando Like the fact that only black history month exists? And not even a variety of cultures, like Kenyan, or Ethiopian, or ANY OF THE OTHER AFRICAN NATIONS THAT EXIST WITH THEIR OWN HISTORIES?!? What about anywhere in Asia? Mongolia? Or India? Or Majahapit? East Europe? Central America? Everywhere in the world has a lush and deep history that deserves exploration. And yet we have one month based on a skin color. I wouldn't mind it so much if every month was dedicated to different parts of the world and ethnic groups and different time periods. But Februrary is only focused on a particular period in history of one nation. America may be the melting pot of the world but we're spoiling the stew by overlooking the other ingredients.
Truly. I turned a guy down and he spent a week calling me an aryan nazi, and ran around school telling everyone I was racist. I shouldn't take it to heart, but comparing me to Hitler's ideals still bothers me. Somehow his personality never won me over.
@@Saltedroastedcaramel Really? I haven't heard about them but That's a relief that they been getting traction. Do you think that they're more prominent in certain regions?
10:48 To be fair to the writers, that is what modern "woke" is. People making serious arguments in a constructive wsy that has a chance of ceeating positive change are less frequently tagged with tge label of "woke." I'm very surprised that Disney has a writer, or team of writers, who depict the "woke" person as an wanker. 18:45 And of course there is the entire aspect of, why does this matter? Skin color is an aspect of appearance... but so is hair color, hair style, dress style, makeup, height, weight, and so on. Of these, the only one that is meant to reflect being evil is preferring one skin color over another. If the celebrity doesn't want to date anyone darker than Snow White, why should they be made do?
because "woke" was always a unoriginal parasite term anyway it effectivily was a way of saying "i support all civil rights movements" when they didnt actuall start or support any of those movements till it became socivally popular to do so.
I cannot tell you how much i despised this episode. The fact that Zoey had to apologize for no reason just sealed the deal fo me. I was enjoying the show fine as is but this episode made me not want to finish the rest of it.
Louder And Prouder? More like louder and bitter! This show may be loud but there’s absolutely nothing to be proud of. I’m glad I didn’t watch it. What a disgustingly cringe worthy experience.
26:26 they act like Zoey is the only white girl in there school, if the man was really that shallow to date her for being white, wouldn’t he have picked anyone else. Like legit maybe he just has a thing for gingers, or he likes geeky girls or like anything about her personality, but no they assume that the only reason anyone would like Zoey, is cause she’s white. Like goddamn way to give your friend self confidence issues
I really hated how they treated zoey and penny everyone was so pissed at zoey for no reason and instead of actually checking if Noah was dating zoey because she was white they just decided to believe there friend when she mentioned it and instead of being mad at Noah for his gross behavior they get mad at Zoey and when penny tried to defend Zoey, ZOEY DECIDED TO ACT LIKE SHE WASNT AND GOT MAD AT PENNY FOR NOT HELPING??? And the fact is that they made one of the characters dress up as Pocahontas is disgusting Disney has been told many times by the family of matoaka that they don’t want her to be shown and merchandised anymore after they romanized her rape and kidnapping story and they are not listening

Good thing you did because I'd start calling out the hypocrisy where black VAs can voice white characters, but white VAs can't voice black characters.
Never ever ONCE said that.
There were a lot of white VAs back then, and minority means a small number. Can't always get what you want.
@@sparxstreak02 Thank You!!! I said the same thing multiple times about Phil LaMarr!!!
When I watched the episode I just felt bad of Zoey and the fact that she was the one to have to apologize to the group was the worst. Overall it just showed what a toxic friend group looks like
OG Proud Family had so much more toxicity, ESPECIALLY coming from Dijonay
Disney had a chance to fix that dum friend group trope but didn’t. And for what? Also agree that Zoey did not have to apologize. That a episode was trash 🗑
@Chasformer That's a good question... The closest i have seen Dijonay actually get called out and face the consequences of being a toxic friend, was the episode where she pawned off her siblings to Penny to sneak off to that 3rd Storee concert. What bugged me though, was that Penny pointed out that Dijonay couldnt be trusted and STILL took her back anyways.
@Will N That's all the more reason not to be friends with her!
They've been toxic since the original series, nothing has changed.
Moral of the show:
all of pennys friends are toxic and horrible people. never follow their example and avoid them as the plauge.
That's how it's always been from the original show tbh
You know this one is faithful adaptation of the original when all of Penny's friends are still terrible human being with barely anything changed. Dijonay is backstabbing prone as ever and being shameless chonky snake, Lacienica is still a condescending rich mean girl like she always be, Zoey is passable but still a spineless follower she always be and don't let me talk about Maya, that brat is unbearably annoying and hypocritical.
KG is OK tho.
Especially Lacienega and Dijonay.

Maya? At first, I was a little irritated, but after getting to know her, she's cool, too.

Not to mention that when Noah walks in he walks past a “conventionally attractive “ white girl and doesn’t even look at her so from our point of view he went up to zoey because he was genuinely interested in her
But that will never matter. Intent or motivation doesn't matter to anyone anymore
@@sockmage4400 Easier said than done
Especially in the politically charged world we live in today
Do u feel that way even tho it's opposite going on rn or is only in a 2 min show
Excuse me if my question is stupid.

What the first repones meant, is that essentially Maya is just the manifestation of how “wokeness” is being interprétate and use in modern times.
Holy shit! Him using an ugly girl to boost himself up would’ve been a way better plot!
I honestly assumed the twist would be that Noah was going after Zoey because she was the only one who didn’t immediately fall head-over-heels for him.
You see, this requires a level of kindness and empathy I'm not sure the writers have. They have to be mean
As someone who didn't get to grow up with the Proud Family, I gotta know..... WHY does Penny keep those friends? They're all... kinda awful!
It basically represents how a lot of teen friendships are
Maya was bad in the original but everyone in the reboot is amped up even further.
Maya in the OG was meant to be an example of a friend who follows their bad impulses.
I can only theorise this is a case of as an adult Penny will look back on her teen years and think “I cannot *stand* those women, why was I ever friends with them?” 😂😂😂
I mean, even folks who did grow up watching the Proud Family haven't figured that out yet.
@Chasformer I meant Dijonay. Slip of the mind there.
There's nothing wrong with being Scottish or white. This episode shows that Zoey does not have a real friend in any of these girls. It's sad really
Oddly enough there was a time scottish/Irish weren't even considered white.
Penny was her only real friend.
It's not even that. It's that they basically call Zoey an ugly loser.

My issue is that the celebrity dude is never called out for being colorist, but the white friend who isn't at fault is punished
And I also don't like how colorism in general was treated as an excuse the poc girls made up because they're jealous.
They can use all the slippery snake words they want to and act passive aggressive if they don’t want a mature discussion. No explanation is needed if they want to question your reasonings on your preferences. If they can’t accept that it’s their problem to work out not yours. Let the miserable stay miserable as the saying goes misery loves company.
The difference between preferences and fetishization is another interesting point which was completely missed in this episode.

the more I hear about this show, the more it feels like the showrunners legitimately don't know how to write positive female relationships. Sometimes it feels like they keep the friendships toxic just so they have a cheap tool for writting conflict. I get that when you're 14, you're not really emotionally mature and you're still very much a kid, but I've seen young teens written much better than this.
Honestly the friend group wasn't much better in the original.
Date who whoever love you and the skin you're in, even if there is a melanin difference

Still more than what Zoey does ever for her.
Not to mention Emily lived to old age and her family was still alive. Why was the Diary barely buried in a park?
The girls treat Zoe like garbage and believe a girl they've only known for at most a few months. Then Michal goes "I don't have a pony in this race, but I'm going with the BIPOC girls." So her cousin only see's white girls with the guy. Never talks to him, and no one tries to find out. Maya thinks her cousin is 100% right and could never be wrong.
She is not giving all of her attention, which means she doesn't care about the conversation. Have to wonder why she is even there.
@@Olimar92 ah i see. But you want that last question answered maybe its just plot deviceitus
I was hoping she would bring a kinder dynamic to the show, maybe be more supportive to Penny, but she is the fucking qorst.
@@rosesweetcharlotte Ikr, I was super disappointed.
Blacktivist with a Green jacket who nobody likes.
She's basically Amber, from Invincible. For kids.
I can't help but wonder if it's intentional on Disney's part, to push the idea that if someone calls out their racism then they must be irrational and overreacting.
Given their track record in recent times, that is entirely possible
Not to mention a dash of "Needlessly Aggressive African-American girl/woman", because that's totally a character no one is sick of
Don’t forget the “all African Americans are activists” bit too, that’s not tiresome either
I really hate what they did with the Proud Family they took something hilarious and charming with the Afro flavor and removed the charm and humor and filled it up with the things that annoy us about current entertainment
I disagree, to an extent. Even in the OG series Penny's friends were awful.
why does this shitte get to contuine but things like owl house which included woke topics in a postive non preachy non hypocrtical way GET F ING CANCLED.
@@rosesweetcharlotte But not that awful that's the main point !
That's what I was thinking, I was like "so you're fixing the lack of support by not supporting your friend??" Lmao
Idk.
So true
@@BrightWulph I love this idea. It would teach kids not to listen to rumors, to try find out the truth, and not to be jealous and toxic to a friend… especially not based on unsubstantiated rumor said friend didn’t even know about.
So instead of fixing Dejanae the most toxic friend the just add another problematic friend to the group.
Apparently so
If that guy said "Sorry, but I'm into Asian chicks", would the girls (and Michael if the guy swings that way or both ways) get mad at the Chang triplets for being Asian, or would Maya be the only one with common sense?
The Chang triplets were erased from the modern series
@@kbh95207 Nope they still exist, they're no longer stereotypes
They would say the same thing, what's your point
*This next section is hot water SO PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.*
I remember some articles saying that the whole reason Halle Bailey was casted for Ariel wasn't because of the sake of diversity (Which at this point I learned to not care for, blackwashing it's for me the least of my problems with Urban dictionary woke people), but because Beyoncé (Who Is aparently Bailey's Godmother) told the director to give her the role.
This is a bruh moment
Sugar mama is only thing keeping me hooked so far.
@@tiamystic It's not even the political agenda for me. It's just that this is a mean show and everything about it gets twisted into a mean thing.
I think the boondocks pulled it off with the brother who was an activist forgot his name I think Riley. They should have taken inspiration from that. Never really thought about it much about him being a preachy annoying character cause he was written really well written.
@@soulsurfer7702
No Riley is the brother who acts all “gangsta”, Hughie is the the kid you are referring to.
To be honest, this show has had a problem with this going on 20 years now. It isn't even its message, it is just a mean show.
@@rosesweetcharlotte That's fair.

I remember that
That's so Raven was one of my favorite Disney shows
That episode was sad even goths gay people same with them this world is sick!!!!!
Yes, that episode wasn't the best. They should have gone into a deeper conversation with Zoey while also questioning Maya's cousin's info.
Honestly, they should hire you as a writer. This is great stuff, frankly.
Lacienaga is latino not black. So it would still tech be racism not colorism.
Exactly!
It seems the only unifying fact now days is that whatever good things came from the past, have now to be corrupted.
it always was "wokeness" as a idealogy was always a unoriginal toxic parasite that claimed it was every previous civil right movement combined whin in reality they stood on the shoulders of giants soley so they could take a higher piss on peoples heads.

Read the description and the pinned post.
I wonder what talking cat they got to voice Puss in Boots

End of innocence
Should have been more about how the where worries that the famous guy might have been useing Zoey for a PR stunt. And herd a rumor that he only dates white girls.
But then when she ask he gets hurt by the accusations. He stays "I like tall girls, I like red headed girls, and I like girls in glasses, I like girls who don't throw them self at me. But what I don't like girls who believes in rumors."
And a few days he's latter seen with another girl that fits his preferancrs.

Yeah, they've been like this for a long time. It's a real shame.
Merida's the odd one out coz she's a Pixar Princess not a Disney Princess.
@@rosesweetcharlotte also if they pointed out to him that he's pretty light skinned himself, and thus might have been treated better by the industry than a darker skinned boy.

I would say half the sitcoms I watched growing up had a black cast.

Fair point
I've caught a couple of times the word "damn," and "Hell" being used...and not in sense Frollo used in the "Hunchack of Notre Dame."
Edited to add: I believe Penny and her crew are still middle schoolers in "Louder and Prouder."
because now due to BLM its seen as "the cool noble thing" to do by embracing sterotypes and treating cacasians like literally subhooman devils who need to apologize at all moments to any POC in sight to be deemed "one of the good ones"
The one thing penny never learns : her friends are toxic and she should leave the group. Zoey in an acception because she isn't like the others "
That’s true
I felt bad for Zoey in this episode plus both Dijonay and Penny already had boyfriends at the time.
Looking back at the show makes me think these friends that Penny and Zoey have are terrible.
By that logic only Japanese people should be voicing anime.
... anime is literally voiced by Japanese people. You just like watching dubs
I hate them too they are my least favorite characters
Maddy is right, where is our Dave the barbarian Season 3?
If they are going to cover Colorism, it need to be show the go both way and not just "Light Skins hate Darker Skin".
@@shavagreycastle There's been Hispanic, Native American and Asian specific months in recent years.
2:46 A Dave The Barbarian reference? You have my subscription.
4:14 I'm so glad you mentioned this from winx
Easily the most uncomfortable joke in the whole series.
