@@RDR911 actually a plasma laser is exactly what you get for getting 500,000 subscribers. I'm on my way there myself, I can only hope to achieve that laser one day
I remember the Overstrike trailer creating a buzz in my friend group at the time. When it got cut up and reformed as Fuse, everyone shrugged and moved on. Completely forgot the game existed until I saw this title. It's a case study in the dangers of knee-jerk reactions to focus testing. What's that old saying, attributed to Henry Ford? "If you asked people what they wanted, they would've asked for a faster horse.. not a car".
Actually, I remember this game quite fondly. I used to play it with my younger brother on PS3. We were going through all co-op shooters we could find and FUSE was one of them. I remember that demo was quite good and full game was our impulse buy, but I guess that if you're playing in co-op, every game is a little bit better.
If you use the cover system in the cover shooter the last boss fight is a lot easier. Who would have known? This is why modern games have AI characters constantly tell you what to do. Also you can just self-revive by activating fusion.
imagine if this had still been Overstrike, we'd be in a universe where Overwatch would've had to have a different name or else test groups would have insisted it was 'too much like Overstrike'
my friends and i stayed up all night during summer in middle school and played thru this entire game. at the time it was one of the best times we had and i still think of it fondly. definitely wouldnt play it now tho
Wait, hold up, you can take cover in this game and the final boss has a projectile and you didn’t even try to take cover as soon it proved to be an insta kill? 😂 Oboooooee
Taking cover doesn't protect you from every angle, so you have to be in the right spot. Presumably he took cover in the wrong spot a few times and when it never protected him, he figured it didn't work.
@@trianglemoebius yeah that makes sense - maybe the robot attacked from where it looked like you should be protected, but you werent - so after trying it a few times and getting no results, you'd naturally assume it doesnt works specially since we see him using cover against the snipers, so its not like it was an unused mechanic
I remember that first Overstrike trailer. Game looked like it would be a lot of fun at least personality wise. Then they decided to make it objectively worse in every way for no reason.
Honestly, it looked like an Overwatch clone only like six years before those became a thing. It was kind of comical that they seized on that trend early and EA went "nah, bros, make it more like Gears."
Oboe, have you done Binary Domain yet? The voice controls in that game are so frustrating That being said, the caricatures that are supposedly characters, are kinda funny and worth playing through just for them
The moral of the story is- Never, under any circumstances, listen to any input on your game when it's hand delivered by a bunch of *12 year olds* Pour one out for the game we never got, boys. D:
I had a room mate that absolutely loved this game and kept saying I should play it. I finally tried it one day and decided to never speak to him again. It’s been about 9 years now.
Best part of this game was how broken the crossbow and the orange hair lady are. The crossbow chain kills people and is typically a one or two hit kill. The orange hair lady can drop a healing beacon that makes everyone invincible (and revives them) and it only costs 20 out of 300 ammo and lasts for about 30 seconds... Killing a single dude gives you like 50 ammo back BTW.
Side note. I remember this game being one of those "only some of the characters see special visions randomly throughout the game and we wont tell who so just cycle whenever theres dialogue :^)"
I was literally just thinking about this game the other day. I remember how amazing the pre rendered trailers looked, then it just kinda Died on Arrival. Insomniac should really add a Fuse Easter egg in Spider-Man 2
I think the being able to switch control over each character in your squad is a pretty cool feature. I wish fallout had something like that it'd make companions more fun if you could level them up and pick perks for them and switch to them whenever a situation calls for their skillset.
Funny how this is one of my favorite games for real. Had zero issues with it. To be honest the game is like hell of a lot better than what these clips might make you think. Loved to play it solo or with 3 of my friends. I also sent a thank you email to the devs via customer support, and they replied back. Nice chaps.
Fuse is an amazing game. I'm sad that you only got to play it after the servers were destroyed. I had the most fun in my life (prior to Destiny 1 and 2) by playing Echelon mode with randoms, hard carrying noobs as Izzy, the always present medic. However it always just took a single trash Dalton player to collapse the whole mission. Submarine was the hardest Echelon level and you can't change my mind. Took me the longest to solo that one.
Literally the only time i ever saw a copy of FUSE in the flesh was when i was visiting my grandmother out in the country and we stopped in a small village of about 300 people and some 85 year-old lady was having a garage sale and there was a copy of fuse there for like $4, but even that was too much
Randomly remembered this game and figured I'd see if someone made a video on it in current year. But oh my god i wasnt prepared to be called out for grinding the horde mode for exp before 5 minutes had passed 😭
The funny part about FUSE is the original trailers made the game look a lot light hearted more funny dialog and more colorful. Then the next trailer hit and some CEO or investor though the game needed to be way more serious.
Still amazes me how Insomniac went from Resistance and Ratchet and Clank, and then immediately afterward the first and only game they make under EA is this absolute garbage fire.
Oboe dropping the fact that he had access to a laser out of nowhere
Do you not have access to a laser?
He used it in video just to get tax write off.

Obo and Sytopryo collab when?
Orbital laser reveal at 500 subs
Oboe slicing the disc with a laser I never expected him to have was more entertaining than this game
I cant believe Fuse was so bad that oboe had to go out and purchase a laser that could destroy Europe
Watch out New York
Oh, no! I live in New York, Europe!
Still can’t believe test audiences freaking robbed us from the original version of this game, overstrike .

IIRC this was announced as "Over Strike" with a more comedic tone/characters then was focus grouped into what we eventually got.
Honestly, for a 7th gen game General Bad Lady had pretty decent facial animations. I've seen "next gen" games with worse faces.
