I saw Woody hanging around our Old Town in Fort Collins a few years after this movie was made... was too scared to approach him. He was the perfect cast for this role.
I grew up believing this was a beautiful love story. Never just violence. I stand by it still. It’s always been one of my favourite movies. ❤ ps I never needed to be violent but I’ve loved as hard.
@@toask2576 💯 it shows someone’s behaviour doesn’t dictate if they’re bad/evil, usually it shows there’s a much deeper problem that ppl miss or can’t be bothered to address. I find it with my patients, it’s naughty kid syndrome, they’re always naughty and get labelled, but when you take the time to look behind the behaviour there’s often a mental health issue (especially trauma) that can be helped with the right therapists, meds and support. It’s unbelievable what an imbalance in the brain can lead to. Very few are born bad. People are far too quick to judge and dismiss.
I never really saw it as a beautiful love story I always saw the movie more as just an attack on the media in the form of how the media celebrated violence in the 90s.
I agree, a total masterpiece. I can’t believe how underrated it is, must be something to do with the message about the media being biased and making heroes out of villains for better ratings. I remember the propaganda the media spouted, like 200 murders had to be cut from the final movie, total rubbish. And you have to remember the climate back in the 90s in cinema, which was much better than today’s. Tommy Lee Jones was more known for Lonesome Dove and roles like in The Fugitive to me so it was great seeing him play a shithead, (I didn’t watch Under Siege for years because I wasn’t a Steven Seagal fan). Also Woody Harrelson was playing against type, and he totally owned the part. It’s a shame about Juliette Lewis because she is an icon of the 90s cinema scene and you just don’t see her anymore. Even Robert Downey Jr. totally smashed it in this movie, great accent LOL 😂

This was the bonus feature on the VHS tape director's cut which I watched a billion times. I guess it made it to dvd sometime later. Such a great film and this was a great BTS to see. Gratitude for the clean upload here..brought back a lot of memories.

Excellent interviews, excellent doc on Natural Born Killers. Just wish they had included Rodney Dangerfield. Dangerfield was superb, an original let go crazy given the perfect opportunity this movie gave him.
Definitely! I had to laugh so hard when Stone talked about the different approaches to violence and how younger directors do it, without all the deeper meanings behind it and that after having read Tarantino's reaction to the movie and well, the way he uses violence.

His films just rely too much on violence and his conversations have become boring to me, like he’s trying to catch the atmosphere of reservoir dogs and Pulp Fiction. My grandad was drafted early in WWII. He was there, overseas, the whole war. And that's all I know. I was very close with him, but he never, ever spoke about what he saw in the army. Not to me, his kids, or my grandmother. He could never watch any movie or show with violence. He led a great middle class life. He had a great marriage and family who loved him, which is wonderful, particularly for a veterans who saw so much bloodshed, but he couldn't deal with evil things. The pain of it all never went away. Kindest person in the world - but couldn't bear to see even simulated violence. Once you've seen it for real, it's different. And he never wanted to burden those he loved with the violence he'd seen. I'm not against violence in film, but I'm always reminded of the people who witnessed the real thing. Survivors of war, abuse, etc. Remember veterans and survivors of violence. They are real people and even if your don't see it, they struggle every day. This is a great film, but not for people who've seen violence and murder. No film is for everyone.

I still think NBC was a fantastic example of high art that was kinda more available back in the 1990s comparing to the tripe that is released today . The Cape fear documentary was also a good one hearing scorcese talk about the interesting concept if someone set their whole life goal about destroying yours. How easily your whole life could be undone. Reason I mention that Is they were two of my favourite dvds and lost them both.
Back when NBK came out Woody was more known as a charismatic backwards baseball cap wearing dude in Cheers and White men can’t jump, I was 14 when it was released in America and had to wait a bit longer being in the UK with all the controversy kicked up. But I don’t think there was many people back then who could’ve seen what a good Job Harrelson would do with the role, if it hadn’t been for that part I don’t he would’ve had the career he’s got now, and true detective season one is my favourite TV of all time.

I couldn't get into this movie because of it; I didn't like seeing him be such a POS. I get that people like the movie, and others didn't have the problem, but it is what it is. This was 94.... I was 17, I saw it at the theater, was excited, stoked to watch it. That " waiting for the miracle", Cohen song, good stuff. 30 years later....honestly, it's a bit pretentious, and full of itself.... " Repetition works.... Do you think that those nit-wits out there in zombieland remember anything? It's junk food for the brains. It's you know.... filler, fodder, whatever"..... Wayne Gail. ...... It's shot pretty flashy, looks nice, what the message is? It got left back about halfway through.... ....turn left, turn left to what?..... ....and my bearclaw....
I understood it perfectly... Saw it 24 hours before the official release at a midnight showing and that night is burned into my memory forever... It changed how I thought about movies.
Haha Robert Downey though. 😂😂😂 The word 'savant' seems to fit him perfectly, especially in his crazy younger days. Yeah, NBK is a crazy film alright. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas came close but NBK won with it's sheer violent insanity. So many cool movies were made in the 90's. I saw it and to me this movie is about the hypocrisy of society and the damage the media has done and will continue to do TO our society..... And how badly ppl are failed by the system in this country. This movie is more relevant NOW than it EVER was.
I've watched many movies over 60+ years. Horror, violent, murder, etc, and never found one I couldn't watch. I rented "Narural Born Killers" when it came out on VHS & in less than 15 miniutes I took it out and returned it to my local video store 🥶
That's sad... You missed out on one of the great masterpieces of the 90s... It's not for everybody but it is a piece of cinematic art of the finest caliber the likes of which we never see anymore.
Woody Harrison: "Where is the line between you and Mickey and Malory?" I think that line is very clear, most people don't go around killing innocent people.
So, when the riot happens, they were actual prison rs. Im sure the killing and torturing was stage, but actual super max prioners? Thats...risky as hell!
When they showed woody and Juliet eat shrooms they were eating real shrooms and Oliver also was tripping during some of the shooting.But this film summed up the mindless violence in late 80s and 90s.Also during that period had the most popular insane serial killers in history.Ted Bundy Dhammer night stalker Gacy and more.We haven't had serial killers on that level since.Oliver made the entire sets and environments as chaotic and weird as possible.they were eating shrooms and Oliver would blast tribal music cranked to 11 and would use different color lights through out the film.along with projector playing strange clips of violence in nature.Its one of the greatest films of all time and it was basically an expiremet to Oliver.
Wow. The interviews notwithstanding, you can see how far gone Downey was with his drug abuse. Look at his footage in the finished film, then look at his interviews. He’s at least 30 pounds lighter and fidgeting almost non stop. It’s a kudos to Oliver Stone for keeping him in the movie even though he was obviously hurting.
The title "Natural Born Killers" refers to tabloid media, due to the fact the actual killers were conditioned to be that way through childhood abuse, not "natural born"
I can only imagine how much drugs were on that set. What a group of individuals - Downey, Woody, Stone, Sizemore. 😂 Even tho Woody and Sizemore seem sober this interview, Stone is questionable, and Downey is well. You can clearly see he is high. I didn't mention Jones or Lewis (An accident in 1989 when she was 16 when she entered a bar unlawfully, and she was charged with undarage drinking. But that was when she was 16 and careless/rebellious years) because they don't have a history with drug abuse/alcoholism at least from what we know.
I like this film never really loved it but I do think its good just not great. I do feel its a little style over substance at times but overall the message of the media enhances violence and that they feed off each other is a good true message especially true of the 90s. The ending is totally unbelievable though that this insane couple could stay on the run while at the same time rasing an entire family its completely ludicrous as an ending but overall its a good film.
4:08 Why did you edit out certain parts? The scene that was cut was her (the producer at the time indicated at the beginning of this comment) talking about how the characters Mickey & Mallory are eating mushrooms in the film & the whole crew/actors/director were ACTUALLY eating REAL psychedelic mushrooms on that trip and their vehicle was being followed by a REAL cop. Oliver Stone complained to the driver who told Stone he was driving the speed limit to which Stone replied, "That's why he's suspicious" & Stone put his foot on the driver's foot to speed up the vehicle which made the vehicle swerve all over the road. Bear in mind a real cop was following them at the time & they're all tripping their faces off on mushrooms 😅. I don't understand why you cut anything out of these interviews. Bad choice.
Even the Director's Cut should be Rated R and not Unrated or NC-17, due to the Historical Significance of this Film. A Hard R for Graphic/Bloody Violence, Strong Language, Nudity, Drug Use and Sexuality. Use this as New Rating Guidelines and UA-cam Guidelines too.
I never really liked it myself. To me, they romanticized violence and that weird relationship between Micky and Mallory. However, it is quality craftsmanship in cinema.

This was 94.... I was 17, I saw it at the theater, was excited, stoked to watch it. That " waiting for the miracle", Cohen song, good stuff. 30 years later....honestly, it's a bit pretentious, and full of itself....

I understood it perfectly... Saw it 24 hours before the official release at a midnight showing and that night is burned into my memory forever... It changed how I thought about movies.

Haha Robert Downey though. 😂😂😂 The word 'savant' seems to fit him perfectly, especially in his crazy younger days. Yeah, NBK is a crazy film alright. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas came close but NBK won with it's sheer violent insanity. So many cool movies were made in the 90's. I love how the producer just casually mentioned they were on shrooms. 😁
I saw it and to me this movie is about the hypocrisy of society and the damage the media has done and will continue to do TO our society..... And how badly ppl are failed by the system in this country. This movie is more relevant NOW than it EVER was.

I've watched many movies over 60+ years. Horror, violent, murder, etc, and never found one I couldn't watch. I rented "Narural Born Killers" when it came out on VHS & in less than 15 miniutes I took it out and returned it to my local video store 🥶
That's sad... You missed out on one of the great masterpieces of the 90s... It's not for everybody but it is a piece of cinematic art of the finest caliber the likes of which we never see anymore.
I still have the Directors Cut on VHS.

So, when the riot happens, they were actual prison rs. Im sure the killing and torturing was stage, but actual super max prioners? Thats...risky as hell!

When they showed woody and Juliet eat shrooms they were eating real shrooms and Oliver also was tripping during some of the shooting.But this film summed up the mindless violence in late 80s and 90s.Also during that period had the most popular insane serial killers in history.Ted Bundy Dhammer night stalker Gacy and more.We haven't had serial killers on that level since.Oliver made the entire sets and environments as chaotic and weird as possible.they were eating shrooms and Oliver would blast tribal music cranked to 11 and would use different color lights through out the film.along with projector playing strange clips of violence in nature.Its one of the greatest films of all time and it was basically an expiremet to Oliver.
Wow. The interviews notwithstanding, you can see how far gone Downey was with his drug abuse. Look at his footage in the finished film, then look at his interviews. He’s at least 30 pounds lighter and fidgeting almost non stop. It’s a kudos to Oliver Stone for keeping him in the movie even though he was obviously hurting.
Worth comparing to the film, Network.

The title "Natural Born Killers" refers to tabloid media, due to the fact the actual killers were conditioned to be that way through childhood abuse, not "natural born"

I can only imagine how much drugs were on that set. What a group of individuals - Downey, Woody, Stone, Sizemore. 😂 Even tho Woody and Sizemore seem sober this interview, Stone is questionable, and Downey is well. You can clearly see he is high. I didn't mention Jones or Lewis (An accident in 1989 when she was 16 when she entered a bar unlawfully, and she was charged with undarage drinking. But that was when she was 16 and careless/rebellious years) because they don't have a history with drug abuse/alcoholism at least from what we know.

I like this film never really loved it but I do think its good just not great. I do feel its a little style over substance at times but overall the message of the media enhances violence and that they feed off each other is a good true message especially true of the 90s. The ending is totally unbelievable though that this insane couple could stay on the run while at the same time rasing an entire family its completely ludicrous as an ending but overall its a good film.

4:08 Why did you edit out certain parts? The scene that was cut was her (the producer at the time indicated at the beginning of this comment) talking about how the characters Mickey & Mallory are eating mushrooms in the film & the whole crew/actors/director were ACTUALLY eating REAL psychedelic mushrooms on that trip and their vehicle was being followed by a REAL cop. Oliver Stone complained to the driver who told Stone he was driving the speed limit to which Stone replied, "That's why he's suspicious" & Stone put his foot on the driver's foot to speed up the vehicle which made the vehicle swerve all over the road. Bear in mind a real cop was following them at the time & they're all tripping their faces off on mushrooms 😅. I don't understand why you cut anything out of these interviews. Bad choice.

I never really liked it myself. To me, they romanticized violence and that weird relationship between Micky and Mallory. However, it is quality craftsmanship in cinema.
@@Confessions089 it's satire about the media's obsession with violence. It's SUPPOSED to romanticize the violence to illustrate how twisted the media really is. That is the point. The media should shun violence and be appalled but instead are doing interviews with a mass murderer after the Super Bowl with wholesome commercials from Coca Cola spliced in.
