This will be just a few of the many videos I plan to upload to try and document the process of modifying my daily driver. It's not a fast car, nor is it the best handling car, but it's a car that I've had since high school and I want to learn more and more about modifying my car to my liking.

Hey bro, 2008 as well, 190K miles, works as new, zero problems in 17 years (aside from flat tires and dead battery every few years) not a single oil drop leak. Truly a great car… just upgraded to android head unit to keep it up to date. 👍🏻

Thanks man!! Will be uploading more videos soon!! I learned about the aluminum tape during inspection at the FSAE competition which allowed us to use it as a firewall after making changes when we got up there!

Nice work but aluminum is a conductor of heat, not an insulator. Foam would be a much better choice. Around exhaust, steel is used because of extreme heat melting anything else
I hope you do keep all the original hardware with you, just in case if one day you get tired from all the droning associated with it.
As you can see, the stock intake tube does serve the function of a "cold air" intake because it does draw air from a less turbulent and cooler spot in the engine compartment.
I do retain the OEM hardware in the event I need to reinstall them back on but for now I'll enjoy the intake and the nice little sound it makes when opening the throttle 😁
@@arvin_arn Unless you live in sub zero temperature, you might want to have the coolant line in the throttle body bypassed for a little bit more oomph, just in case if you didn't know. That way your intake air don't get heated up.
@@dominicfong6341 Luckily it never reaches sub zero temperatures in Hawaii 😁 but I'll definitely take a look into the bypass👍
@@arvin_arndid it increase power? Is performance better ? How about fuel consunption?
@@jakubek89 it addd a few hp but i'm unsure how much since I didn't do a before/after dyno test to see. Fuel consumption hasn't changed much even with all the mods i've done.
Hello I just want to ask if you know the exact inner diameter of the intahe where the maf sensor is connected, i have been searching for months now and cant find the exact inner diameter of the maf sensor for 1nz to run properly, hope you can help thanks!

Did you get any error codes? Like the Engine running too lean? Because everytime I've bought a cold air intake for my 09 Yaris I've always gotten a check engine light and after I clear it comes back every 50 miles. The CAI I've bought were relatively cheap (under 100 dollars) so I'm assuming that's the reason, but do you think if I spend the 300 on this I won't have any problems?
I have't gotten any error codes since I've installed the CAI and it's been running pretty smoothly since. The K&N does use the factory maf sensor but i've only cleaned it once prior to installing the CAI but I never had any problems. Can't say for sure if spending the extra money on a more expensive CAI would solve your issue but I would try to see what is causing the error code and if possible try and swap with someone who has a working CAI for the yaris.
@@arvin_arn Like the thing is, I spent my money on a cheap CAI. It was also a different design too. It was really long and it went way behind the bumper. The first time was a disaster, I wasn't able to spin the tires, the car engine knocked, and then the car wouldn't start after I was done in a car wash, and I got numerous error codes.
I tried buying another one a year later, again it was a cheap eBay one. I had a lot better results this time, car fired up right away, and it sounded awesome and accelerating perfectly. But then after 50 miles the check engine light turned on. I'm pretty sure I have the same engine as you, 1.5L 1NZ-FE so I guess I'll spend the 300 on a KN CAI instead of a cheap eBay one.
@@HDgamingxbox360HD Sounds like the error codes were a cause of the first CAI possibly sucking in water. I've heard stories of people who have their CAI routed down low (to intake colder air) to only go through a puddle or drive through a rain storm and have their engine seize due to intaking water. It could also be the filter element but I could be wrong. If you do decide to go with the K&N, I would get the cone cover (the blue mesh) as I mentioned in the video. Driven through rain storms with no issues 👍
@@arvin_arn It could've been because of the car wash, that's why it was worse the first time. Second time I faced less issues, it didn't rain and I didn't wash my car so no water went inside. I'm just guessing it probably had something to do with the MAF sensor holes not being on the cold air intake properly. Because I heard even the slightest imperfection in the placement of the MAF will cause a check engine light. So I'm guessing the cheap CAI's didn't have proper placement for the MAF sensor so it may have caused problems. So I'm assuming the KN one has a proper placement of the MAF sensor so I'm guessing it shouldn't cause a check engine light.

I got a high flow filter for my Yaris and the mass sensor gets dirty very fast causing me issues that the original filter didn’t, I went back to the original one
My car is Toyota Yaris 1.5 model of the engine is 2NR-FE. Does this air intake fit my car?
Hi Mate, have you tried resetting the ECU (disconnect battery) after the installation? If yes, does it idles normally?
I didn't reset the ECU after I reconnected the battery. From what I read online, the ECU goes through a relearning phase after being disconnected to determine the correct air/fuel ratio and adjusts the idle rpm based on this.

@@dominicfong6341 I do experience random idling from time to time but nothing of major concern. It only lasts a few seconds then everything goes back to normal.

Super cool intake, i have a question 50 state legal?
Each state has their own laws when it comes to aftermarket parts so be sure to check with your specific state on what is legal.
Is there a difference in gas consumption after the installation of the intake?
I'm also planning to install one for my unit.
I haven't seen any significant change in fuel consumption since i've installed it, which I would expect since the engine has been completely stock.

@@civicbsixteen8052 No problem! Performance wise, K&N claims it has an increase in hp, but i'm not sure since I never took my car to the dyno. But from what I could tell, it does seem a bit more responsive and you can hear the engine a little more as you press the gas
Nice job done! Your thoughts on why this engine is shaking so badly while it idles?
Thanks! I've heard/read multiple reasons as to why it shakes when it idles. Brake booster pump, injectors, spark plugs, etc. So far I've changed out the spark plugs on mine and it seems to have reduced the amount of shaking compared to before, but it does shake every once in a while
It can be bad engine mount, or even few mounts, also.

mix some Liqui Molly fuel system cleaner and half a tank of fuel, take a nice long drive. If that does not work take an old rag and throttle body cleaner and clean the throttle body.
Always works for me and she returns to as new state...

How was it when driving? Compared on stock intake????
Horsepower gains are very minimal to even notice, probably +3hp at most (although K&N claims a gain of +5hp) but the sound of the throttle bottle opening up to allow air in is quite noticeable and enjoyable to the ears.
The problem is my yasir doesn't has any air filter at first place. I don't know where to put one
Was the air box removed? Normally there would be a filter of some sort before the throttle body

Edit: I have an 08 Toyota Yaris 2door hatchback with a 1.5L engine.
I’m looking to mod it, mostly during the spring. but I wanted to get some small things done before then. I was looking to get a cool air intake and was wondering which one would be best for my car.
This should work on the hatchback as well. There are many different options when it comes to an intake system so I would do a little bit of research before deciding which one to go with. I went with K&N because it looked simple and I didn't want to do too modifications in the event I do return it back to stock.
Have you had any issues with it? Any check engine lights?
So far I haven't had any issues or check engine lights come on since the install
Hi there,2nzfe how many cc please? 1299 or 1500cc? And which oil do you use ? 5w30 ,10w30 or 10w40?
I have the 1nzfe engine with the 1.5L engine. I use the recommended oil of 5W30
@@arvin_arn Thank you for your reply.i was using 10w40 from the garage .Then i read the manual and started using 10w30 then 5w30.Engine runs smoother with 5w30 dx1.Quieter.
What's your rim and tire combo?
The tire was a 195/55/16 Toyo Proxes T1R mounted on a 16x7 SSR Type F wheel
Did you ever removed the blue bag from over the filter?
I still have it on but I do remove it from time to time

The cold air I installed was specific to my engine (1.5L). I would double check on the K&N website to see if it is compatible with your engine since they make intakes for the other Yaris engines

It's been running great! No problems at all and no check engine light since I've installed it
Is the procedure same for 2nz aswell?
I would assume it's the same process but it should come with directions if it's from K&N
@@arvin_arn do I need to replace the entire manifold or can work with just but replacing the filter
@@shahrozalijafri8816 Most likely you would need to replace the stock intake manifold. Unless you are using a drop in filter, I'm not sure if you can just replace the filter.

As long as you reconnect everything, it should be fine. Just take your time and take a photo as you go along. If you don't feel comfortable, grab a friend or take it to a reliable shop to install it for you.

You should try cleaning your throttle body valve. It might look clean but its hard to see the dirt when the valve is closed. I cleaned mine and it stopped the low idle. Make sure you spray the throttle body cleaner on a rag. You wont need much. ua-cam.com/video/ypf2JWRTL4Y/v-deo.html

The first 3 gens of the yaris and vios are the same for the most part, with the yaris being the US version of the vios/belta that everywhere else calls it
My kit didn't come with that blue bag thing.
It's a separate item I bought. It's a filter that goes over the intake. I mention the part number here 0:37
@@arvin_arn oh, I see! Doesn’t it clog the filter? Although the filter gets dirty often without that thing, dust conditions here are terrible.
@@DavidEuropeTV It's an additional filter that goes over the main filter to keep dust and debris from entering through the main filter. It can also repel water and keep the filter dry. The material is a polyester mesh type and is still breathable to allow the intake to do it's job.
