You don't have to be a rocket scientist to look at the design (in the engine bay) and know that its gonna heatsoak.

So where is the difference in quality and temp of air?
How does it provide colder air than stock when the stock air intake draws from the fender? A chrome pipe gets hot, and the plastic tube will actually draw cooler air.

So true. I wondered the same thing after I installed my first and only intake like this on my BMW. It sounded really cool but I could have sworn my car felt slower sucking in that hot engine air. I added the stock back that took air from the outside with just a K&N filter and got the power back.
I agree 1000 percent !! I've been saying it since these things came out. This so-called upgrade is a scam. The stock air intake comes out in front of the radiator support. Removing it and putting the air snorkel under the hood pulling in maybe 180° air temperature is ridiculous. Total deception

Filters are larger and come in oiled or long lasting non oiled media. if you could get a side by side comparison to K&N and SB you will see the difference in quality.

Quit over oiling your filter or you can get the oil free version of the filter and its still washable…also you can get the fine dust sock for it to help keep it cleaner longer.. many options over over oiling and having to clean it often..
@TacomaBeast, next time you should wash the filter from the INSIDE-out, not outside-in. It's on the instructions for a reason, as washing from the outside will embed particles back towards the center.
I did a cold air on my last truck, a Ford with a 5.4 2-valve, primarily in hope of upping highway gas mileage figures. I’d previously modified the air inlet and added a K&N cone filter in place of the paper, along with a Gibson cat back exhaust and synthetic oil. Other than sounding better and making a lot more noise at WOT, it did exactly nothing. It might have given an additional 10-15 horsepower shot at WOT, but that’s not what I was after. I probably won’t do this to my 21 Taco. I’m not out trying to drive it as fast as I can, and it already gets practically double the gas mileage of the big one it replaced. I think I had some increases in efficiency when using a K&N filter in a V-6 minivan, but not as readily apparent on V-8s. Anyway, if building a performance vehicle that includes cam & valve train, headers & free flow exhaust, and other intake mods, a cold air kit makes sense. It does sound great, however.
Hey man I have the same exact truck. I’m looking at getting a S&B intake. Any thoughts compared to the K&N? I like the closed box better than the open air. Also any thoughts on running boards. I’m hoping to get something that extends out to prevents door dents.
Haven’t worked with the s&B so I can’t compare them but I haven’t heard anything bad about it. Running boards won’t do much to prevent door dents since they’re usually made as steps, if you’re looking to prevent door damage you should probably go for rock sliders instead 🤙
I recently just bought this air filter and after installing it I realized is not really made for going OffRoad since it’s open and dispose to all the Dirt and mud etc. other than that sounds great and the response has definitely improved 👌, as of mpg can’t really tell I rate it a 7 out right of 10
K&n is not an offroading filter. Regardless or how well you maintain it. Learn the hard way tho, its better that way. Then you might take the time to actually educate yourself on the topic, instead of beliving a youtube parts changer.

Ok guys help me out. I have a2017 taco and was really excited in buying this intake for it, I’m about saving gas money. What do you recommend for me to do? Love the sound of this Tacoma here.
This won’t have a significant enough impact on mpg tbh, it might increase it slightly but it really depends on how you drive it. If you’re in it for the noise then it’ll definitely be a good mod 😂
It’s a good way to make your Toyota “less reliable” watch the “Project Farm” video about those filter situations, they let more particulate matter into the engine which will cause more problems later no term. If you’re keeping your vehicle forever then don’t bother making modifications that will NOT really make much of a difference, just cost you money.
Only issue I have with that CAI, it’s a metal tube, metal retains heat longer. I went with AFE all plastic with a pro dry filter. I’ve had that intake on for over a decade and the filter is still like new and I’ve only replaced rubber boots due to a decade of engine bay heat wearing them out. The sound actually dampens over time, when I first installed my truck sounded like a race truck now I only hear it when I get into high rpms.I have my intake paired with JBA shorty headers & an a custom exhaust. Used to have a advanced timing switch (high octane setting).
@@joshuablake314 so in a short answer, yes. Plastic is better for HP numbers and testing, but the difference between the two is minimal. So are the rubber gaskets at the bottom necessary. My tacoma was totaled. Had the collision center get the filter out but they forgot the rubber gaskets that the housing sits on. Does the top rubber lining touch the hood?
😊 it definitely sounds better and looks better but the only reason why it's getting more are is because the filter is open I don't like that at all. I also did some research in those filters the filters don't filter very good the holes are too big so they let in more air but that comes at a price we also let in more dirt and dust to the engine this is why I have decided not to get one, the engine doesn't last long with these filters.

Try it out for yourself if u don’t like it uninstall and return. But trust me I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed

@@TheRealRenn hater "noun. a person who has an intense dislike for another person or thing" sounds like the comments right ? get your facts right kiddo. don't let politics get the best of you. I'm sure you are part of the group that doesn't even own a Tacoma yet are in the comments talking down on something you have no experience in.
@@3ddyXz305 Okay professor, thank you for the eNgrish lessun. BTW...junior, looking at your profile page I guarantee I am older than you. Quit being such a 'hater'
Don't you have to tune the engine to reap the HP and torq benefits?
No, it’s only theoretical peak HP, there’s no telling truly exactly how much it gained without a before and after dump. Is there an increase? Definitely, look up engineering explained’a video on performance air filters.
Any gains without tuning would be minimal. A factory ecu can only compensate so much for the added air and temps. Tuning can correct for timing, fuel curve (a/f is nolonger correct) and warmer iat. Sure sounds cool though.
how does it draw colder denser air than stock when they pull from the same place, stock is also more completely sealed from the engine bay. I wish all the intakes would just be honest, all it does it look better and sound better
Best upgrade I did to my cummins for that turbo noise baby haha hearing that suckered whistle loud as hell when you're on it
High revs without letting the engine warm up first is abuse on an engine. k&n filter or not.
Who said we hadn’t warmed up the engine first 😳
@@tacomabeast it's implied in your video.
Isn't the stock intake a cold air intake as it pulls air from outside thru the duct in the fender?
Yes, this is a mod for dumb people who dont know what they are talking about.
People like this spend the $$ for a Toyota, then proceed to drop more $ replacing the toyota parts with cheaper downgrades...
I got my own taco, it’s a nice army green trail edition, one of my dreams is to pimp it out and take out for a long ride all the way to Alaska from the state of texas. My pops and I would love a crazy taco build
That sounds badass man! You got this 🤙
I’m going to install my CAI tomorrow on my 4Runner , Great job, Great Video!
Went from a factory cold air to an aftermarket hot air.
It’s still a cold air since it pulls air from under the wheel well 🤙
@@tacomabeast nah the heat shield sucks and allowed hot air to enter from 360 degrees….get a quality intake like S&B if they make it for that make and model. K&N was the original aftermarket intake provider but they are out dated and out performed by many others…
Facts lol. Kids love these gimmicky mods though 😂. I’m guilty of it 12 years ago
@@Jeff-uo4ck what do you think is the best air intake for a Tacoma?
@@MarcusAurelius12 SB Filters is hands down the best i know of on the market. Completely sealed system draws cold air from outside of the engine bay with no gaps or leaks around the shield like K&N also the pipe is made from plastic instead of metal so it doesn't get heat soak. Most of their intakes get you around 40-50% more air flow. Filters are larger and come in oiled or long lasting non oiled media. if you could get a side by side comparison to K&N and SB you will see the difference in quality.
I’ve done my own testing with a OBD reader reading intake temps with a K&N. Temps where 30-40 degree HOTTER than stock!
You CAN’T call that’s a COLD air intake.
Which one would you recommend?
@@MarcusAurelius12 Your stock air box will give the coldest temps
Plastic vs Plastic?
@@Shibalba I don't understand the question.
@@jdesigns7239 Was one a metal intake and one was a plastic?
I changed to a FlowMaster Super 44 on my 2023 6 cylinder SR5. Greatly improved the sound but you definitely hear it in the cabin (which i actually like). It'll never sound like a true V8 rumble but it's pretty close. What type of muffler is on yours?
Just installed mine and it’s sick af
Rhetorical question. I bought my first Tacoma yesterday and it came with this exact air intake and an aftermarket exhaust. Does that really make a difference in MPG?
Not significant no
Nice hot air intake, so many people don't understand the performance gains from hot engine bay air, but this guy gets it.
Honestly without an pro tune to compensate for the extra air the intake isnt going to do anything except make noise.
prove it
There's video after video showing aftermarket intakes add power. SMH.
@@randomrod9043 I don't need to prove anything to you lmao. Its a well known thing across all engine management tuners across all platforms. You could also turn numbers up on a dyno by adjusting the settings on a dyno, or going to a lower elevation but it doesnt mean shit.
It does help with throttle response and maybe a 1mpg increase. I had one in my 2005 4.0
@@ittotaq lol I guess people like to make fake videos showing otherwise. Great job.
Nice silica ingestor. Perfect for off-road use. Great for seating those piston rings and polishing out that unsightly cylinder cross-hatching. Genius!
hahaha perfect for the pavement princess 😂
Thanks for the video ❤🙏💪Installing it this weekend. I’m on 35’s and manual, 5.29’s and my taco feels like gutless turd. I hope this gets me from 12 mpg into 13 🤣🤣🤣🔥💰
FYI, this is not compatible with a Magnussen Supercharger which is Toyotas OEM Supercharger system for most Toyota applications. That’s hopefully my next upgrade.
I love the K & N because I get all kinds of check eng lights from the stupid filter oil clogging up my sensors. MAF sensor will need to get replaced regularly as well as the IAC valve. Worth every penny....
Quit over oiling your filter or you can get the oil free version of the filter and its still washable…also you can get the fine dust sock for it to help keep it cleaner longer.. many options over over oiling and having to clean it often..
just add a hose to your ac vent box in your cabin to your engine air box. Then you will have a true cold air intake....as long as your ac is on
@TacomaBeast, next time you should wash the filter from the INSIDE-out, not outside-in. It's on the instructions for a reason, as washing from the outside will embed particles back towards the center.
Thanks for the tip 🤙
Just put one in my 2022! I thought I was trippin the deep roar it makes I’m like ummmmmm wtf. I had one on my civic si huge difference
😂
@@tacomabeast thank you
Is there exhaust on as well sorry if you said I was scrubbing around.
We put on a new exhaust on the latest video we released 🤙
I recently just bought this air filter and after installing it I realized is not really made for going OffRoad since it’s open and dispose to all the Dirt and mud etc. other than that sounds great and the response has definitely improved 👌, as of mpg can’t really tell I rate it a 7 out right of 10
The filter is quite good with keeping dirt away as long as you keep it clean 🤙
K&n is not an offroading filter. Regardless or how well you maintain it.
Learn the hard way tho, its better that way.
Then you might take the time to actually educate yourself on the topic, instead of beliving a youtube parts changer.
Funny how rally cars run them 🤔
@@johnnyboydianno rally cars like all race cars get regular engine rebuilds or outright replacements. They care only about power . To a serious rally driver even 1 hp is worth needing to rebuild after the race. Big difference for the guy who off roads on Saturdays but needs to drive the same truck to work.
sick. i have never liked the sound of the exhaust systems for a v6 tacoma so I've stayed stock for my 2nd gen but after watching, definitely need to get this for my 2015.
Right on!
i did a 2011 seirra 5.3v8 the difference was fkin crazy.. worth every bit of couple hundred bucks
Hell yeah 🔥
Question 🙋♂️, Do you Think its worth it for 4 banger 2021 SR5?
It ain’t the worst 🤷♂️
Some turn on the check engine light, I am very interested, but I have that doubt
when you offroad, wouldn't the dust get into the CAI with the open designed?
The filter prevents the dust from going through to the engine 🤙
yeah it seems like compared to an enclosed system like the stock cia or the S&B, the open air filter my need a lot more maintenance ?
Ok guys help me out. I have a2017 taco and was really excited in buying this intake for it, I’m about saving gas money. What do you recommend for me to do? Love the sound of this Tacoma here.
This won’t have a significant enough impact on mpg tbh, it might increase it slightly but it really depends on how you drive it. If you’re in it for the noise then it’ll definitely be a good mod 😂
nice teaching guys, i didn't even had a Tacoma here in India but now I know how to change the filter
🔥
I have the series 77. My gas milage has gone down...it sounds so cool!
Hey Mateo! Hurry up and finish my future truck!! 😁 “It’s all about the Taco”
😂😂😂
Do you have to reset the computer after this? Will cause an engine error code?
Only issue I have with that CAI, it’s a metal tube, metal retains heat longer. I went with AFE all plastic with a pro dry filter. I’ve had that intake on for over a decade and the filter is still like new and I’ve only replaced rubber boots due to a decade of engine bay heat wearing them out. The sound actually dampens over time, when I first installed my truck sounded like a race truck now I only hear it when I get into high rpms.I have my intake paired with JBA shorty headers & an a custom exhaust. Used to have a advanced timing switch (high octane setting).
You think aluminum retains heat longer than plastic? wut?
@@joshuablake314 so in a short answer, yes. Plastic is better for HP numbers and testing, but the difference between the two is minimal. So if you have the choice, either the shiny one that probably costs more or the plastic one that will perform slightly better (obviously with a tune on both materials).
@@joshuablake314 you are correct. It’s even all over google if they still don’t believe you. Plastic once heated up will retain heat, whereas aluminum helps block off heat radiation.
Told ya at overland east when my buddy bought the injen system from ya that this k&n system is top dawg in my opinion when it comes to intakes. My buddy loves the system he got from you at the expo but will admit he wishes it had more throat. Glad you installed this, your reaction is priceless. Feeling validated 🤟🤑
I would recommend a cleanable K&N cabin air filter as well. Got one for my 86 and will eventually get one for my Tacoma.
They will eventually pay for themselves when not having to continue replacing the stock filters.
Do you know if this will effect the emissions test for California?
This item is not legal in California 🤙
Who won this truck? I would love to see where it’s at now

How many inches is the inlet of that filter? Looks huge
So are the rubber gaskets at the bottom necessary. My tacoma was totaled. Had the collision center get the filter out but they forgot the rubber gaskets that the housing sits on. Does the top rubber lining touch the hood?
Where can I order it
😊 it definitely sounds better and looks better but the only reason why it's getting more are is because the filter is open I don't like that at all. I also did some research in those filters the filters don't filter very good the holes are too big so they let in more air but that comes at a price we also let in more dirt and dust to the engine this is why I have decided not to get one, the engine doesn't last long with these filters.
Put it on the Dyno. I wanna see numbers.
3 comments above you is a guy that claims he saw the gains of a K&N filter on a Dino test.
*Disclaimer* you are not getting 18 horsepower out of this intake, also install without the "heat shield" which is just a piece of metal, for better results.
We said it at 1:01 🤦♂️
is the TRD a comfy ride on long roads or the limited is better?
The TRDOR has softer suspension which I find more comfortable. I drive 30 mph over speed bumps and barely feel it.
Where you get the big screen?

Interesting
I love your attitude! Keep up the good work.

I really want this on my new Taco but sadly they don't allow shipments in Canada
I have the filter but dont see a point as to buying the whole kit just for the tube my car already takes cold air from the fender....
No need for a tune when changing cold air intake in this tacoma?
@Tacomabeast How do these hold up in cold weather (ie. Winter)?
Haven’t had any issue with it 🤷♂️🤙
How much more room does the cold air intake use? I plan on installing an ARB air compressor, and 1 gallon tank in that open spot next to the air box.
I would say it’s about the same amount of room 🤙
Would this work for a tacoma 2023 4 cylinder?

Does this improve the Tacomas gas mileage too?
It does but it’s not significant enough for it tbh 🤷♂️
It says 2016-2021… would it work on my 2022 or did something changed?
It should still work!
Would this filter affect the install of a snorkel ?
It will since a snorkel is also re routing the air intake

Glad it was helpful!
I like it very much thanks for the info it's in my baying list and I'm smashing my like botton
