    I finally installed my Typhoon intake on my 2013 Corolla yesterday. The washers and nut for the brackets on the underside of the shield cover were a pain in the ass! I ended up dabbing a tiny drop of crazy glue for the large washers on the underside of the shield to hold it in place, as well as doing the same thing for the washer and nut the mounted the shield onto the bracket. Also, I found that removing the battery entirely freed up a lot of space to to screw in the bolt that mounts the intake tube to the L-shaped bracket. Took me over three hours to do the complete install, although I did stop to do some engine maintenance, as I like to keep my engine bay extremely clean. All-in-all the Typhoon SRI sounds great, but it only gave me an increase of 4 HP (at 5400 RPMs), over the K&N air filter I was originally using, when I dyno'ed it today. However, it is an increase of 7 HP over the original stock OEM air filter. For the $267 I paid for it, the 4 HP gain was not worth the money by itself. But, if you add up the 14 HP I gained by installing a new J2 catback exhaust, I gained 21 HP over the stock so... All those minute gains do add up. Also, so far, no check engine light, though she now idles a little high between 800 to 1000 RPMs instead of the 600 RPMs prior. Although I think that's because the ECU/ECM still needs to learn the new intake.

    • @Joemamaisa304
      @Joemamaisa304 4 роки тому

      Bro do you know by any chance how much of hp increase borla s exhaust does? Btw I read your comment, great work!! I’m thinking to get it installed at a repair shop because honestly I can’t work on it for 3 hours straight lol.

    • @saevurr
      @saevurr 4 роки тому +1

      Horsepower gains truly varies from vehicle-to-vehicle. If you were to hypothetically install the exact same performance exhaust system on a V8 Hellcat engine vs a four cylinder VTEC engine, you may see 20 to 40 HP gains from the Hellcat vs a 6 to 15 HP gain on the VTEC. You won’t truly know what your car gains until you do a before and after dyno. That’s why aftermarket companies/manufacturers usually don’t state numerical gains in their marketing. While they can guarantee that you’ll get an increase in HP, they just can’t guarantee how much.

    I have Tein S-Tech lowering springs on my Corolla (thinking about BC coil-overs now). Wheel Works told me the back isn't adjustable, it's a single axel. They said it needs Shims in the back, and that they wouldn't do that because it's "risky." Only one Wheel Works in my area said they would do it for 400 dollars because of the labour involved. Sounds rather expensive. It's not terribly off, however; the steering wheel is slightly turned to the left when driving straight quite frequently even after it was aligned.

    • @KJs_Garage
      @KJs_Garage  6 років тому +1

      TheGreatVoid the lowering springs shouldn't have changed your alignment specs at the rear, since it's a torsion beam. I would check everything else to make sure there's no damage to a component. You were likely out of alignment before the lowering springs but didn't notice because the ride height was much taller

    The AEM cold air intake says it adds an extra 6 horsepower, however not really going to notice anything under an extra 20-25.
    The K n N sounds much better and you don't have to take half your car apart to install that one.
    Plus, cleaning the filter is going to be WAY easier. You don't have to take your wheel or splash guard off to clean the K n N.
    I believe you only have to clear them every 10k miles, but with how easy it's going to be, doing it every time you change your oil would be a good idea.

    • @KJs_Garage
      @KJs_Garage  4 роки тому

      I put a k n N air filter in my car. I've cleaned it twice and I've had it 3 years.
      No harm in cleaning them when you're literally just washing them off.
      Dry it out completely before putting it back on but you're not going to hurt them one bit rinsing it off. Done mine twice and looks exactly the same, just cleaner.
      I wouldn't wait 100k miles lol.

      Yikes man. Well it's your choice, you did go through all the trouble of putting it in, the stock filters say to be replaced every 10k miles.
      I figure washing mine off about once a year wouldn't hurt, but there cleaning recommendations where a ridiculous amount of miles too.

    Have you had any dash sensors come on about your cold air intake since? Any issues??

  • @gmontenegro9711
    @gmontenegro9711 5 років тому

    I'm a bit confused about this intake setup including any short ram intake setups.. Is there not a literal tube coming from the wheel well? As in.. Toyota has setup the intake system to be cold air in the first place? Wouldn't these air intake setups just lower the performance since it's no longer pulling air from outside the engine but rather from literally inside the engine bay?

    • @KJs_Garage
      @KJs_Garage  5 років тому

      What setups like this do is remove a lot of the restriction for air to get to the engine in the first place, not necessarily add cold air to it. The name is kind of a misnomer.
      And in this car the snorkel that Toyota provides actually pulls air from under the battery, not the wheel well. Still technically inside the engine bay.

    • @gmontenegro9711
      @gmontenegro9711 5 років тому

      Interesting.. for example, I had looked up the Injen CAI and it looks like the end of the intake sit between the wheel and the fog lamps, if that makes sense: b.cdnbrm.com/images/products/schem/injen/large/injen-SP2080BLK-installed.jpg
