    I switched my 34 and 52 hybrid’s about three years ago. Just looking down and seeing the mass gives me better confidence in hitting a shot. Looking for a new set of irons getting fitted in two weeks. Going to try the tailor-made HD’s for sure! Thank you for another great video.

    Being a senior golfer at this stage in my golf game the hybrid is a much better choice for me personally…just much easier to hit and gives me confidence…another great video…

    I've always preferred hitting longer irons over hybrids but now at 73 I choose the hybrid. This review makes me want to try the extra forgiving irons in the longer end of my bag. You always have a way of making me spend money.

    3 yrs ago I bought Wilson Lauch LP hybrid irons which I finally got rid of and went back to CB irons. More control. Thus, since then, I have no 5 iron in my bag, I rely on a Titleist 5 hybrid which works wonderfully. It has plenty of adjustability and I feel much more confident over the ball.

    I found years ago that, at least with my swing faults, the hybrids I carry do not leak as much right or left on off center strikes. I haven't carried a 5 or 4 iron for many years for this reaaon.. And this year, I put a 31 degree hybrid in the bag and took out the 6 iron.

    I’m new golfer and 45 years old. I bought the HD set and chose to go with the 4 and 5 hybrid HD and 6 through 9 along with wedges in the HD irons. I hit the hybrids with more consistency at this point .

    Another entertaining video Andy! Once you get back to your home turf I think most of us would like to see some dry ball data to figure out gaps in the bag as a lot of us "average golfers" are very intrigued by this set of clubs! Cheers!

    I purchased the HD irons with the 5 iron, coming from a setup where I had hybrids and only a 6 iron as my longest iron. I found that I can really hit this 5 iron well and like the added accuracy I get with the 5iron. It feels good to be able to hit a 5iron with confidence, and like the video, I don't feel like I am giving up much over the hybrid. Great video as it confirms my experience.

      That's great to hear. So far, I only mastered the HD irons up to the 7 iron. I am still reaching for my 5 hybrid (Callaway) for now as far as the confidence level is concerned. I'll have to practice some more with the HD 5 iron to see if I can narrow that confidence gap.

    The swing has come a long way, mate: from when I started following you very early on (like, under 10k subs?) you seem to have created better setup, posture, tempo and the ball flight looks so good and consistent nowadays. Cheers on the great work, which is made so much harder by being a UA-cam golfer, talking over shots, traveling, always testing new gear (no consistency!), etc. Thank you for creating and sharing.

    following on from the excellent suggestion below, I would very much like a test between 5DHY v 5HD, that would be a great test for us slightly older golfers who have a reasonable swing but just don't have the speed to launch a game improvement 5 iron like the P790 high enough to get any more distance than the 6 iron does but find even a higher lofted hybrid going too far i.e. leaving a distance gap between irons and hybrids.

    I tried out these HD irons and alternated hitting Ping 430 irons, and pings felt and hit way better than these HD irons, even with the long irons.
    And to pick between a hybrid and iron at say the 3 and 4, I would be more consistent with a hybrid.

    I have the Cobra T Rails. I choose the 4 iron over the 4 hybrid. I prefer to have a complete set of irons with the same look, feel, and progression. If the T Rails had 2 and 3 hybrids to go with 4 hybrid then yes I would go with the 4 hybrid over the 4 iron.

    So I currently have made room in my bag for 2 hybrids. A 4 and a 5 hybrids. Never liked the looks. But when I hit them as well as I do. They had to be in my bag. I removed my 4 iron. But I still keep the 5 iron in my bag. Just in case the winds pick up or I want a stinger or runner. But I have learned, hybrids/ rescues have a place in golf and in my bag for me to play better, more enjoyable golf.
    Thank you for another entertaining and informative video. Keep up the great work, and Cheers!

    You always seem to put a better than average swing/strike on most clubs you test..like you say it all comes down to how you feel over the ball and what club gives you the most confidence... myself i would rather hit my 2 iron off the fairways than my 3 hybrid unless i was in the semi

    • @TheAverageGolfer

      2 iron off the fairways is a very flat ball flight into a green?

  • @glend3139
    @glend3139 Рік тому

    Andy it is interesting that you tested a 5 iron vs a 4 hybrid. I realize they have similar lofts but I find most people tend to equate a hybrid one number less as an iron replacement. So a 4 iron would go similar distance as a 5 hybrid, assuming of course you can actually hit a 4 iron well - I certainly can't. Depending on design a 5 hybrid could equate to a 5 iron and looking at the TM website the 5 HD hybrid has a loft of 27 degrees while the 5 iron has a loft of 23.5 degrees. I am assuming the difference in loft and length is by design to make the HD 5 hybrid would go a similar distance to the 5 iron. Would it have been a better comparison in terms of ball flight, distance, control etc to have tested the 5 hybrid against the 5 iron and even provided comparative distances? Just a thought as I have the HD irons and am considering adding some of the HD hybrids and was curious as to performance of say a 5 HD hybrid vs the HD 5 iron and if those would be direct replacements for each other.

    • @TheAverageGolfer
      @TheAverageGolfer  Рік тому

      I would say the comparison is correct, the 5 HD iron is far too strongly lofted to compare to a 5 hybrid in my opinion

    • @glend3139
      @glend3139 Рік тому

      @@TheAverageGolfer Thanks for the quick reply. I guess it is strange then how TM packages the combo set of the HD irons/hybrids. They would replace a 5 HD iron with a 5 HD hybrid suggesting that they are saying they are direct replacements for each other. My personal experience is that a set like that is going to have to large of a gap between the 6 iron and the next club being the 5 hybrid. This is not just a TM thing but what I have noticed anytime I have tried to replace an iron with the same #'d hybrid. I didn't seem to notice in your video if you ever mentioned how far you hit the 4 HD hybrid vs the 5 HD iron?

    Andy, what is the difference between the stealth HD iron and the Gapr mid or Gapr lo. It feels to me, this is Taylormade reinventing a product which is already out there. I have the Gapr Mid for the summer and a Gapr lo for the windy winter months. I’d love to see the comparison to the HD stealth

    • @TheAverageGolfer
      @TheAverageGolfer  Рік тому

      It’s not reinventing as the GAPR are not available as a set of irons, but the principle of the club design is the same
