Since people will probably continue to keep mentioning it, at the time I was not aware of the customization options when I first created my Shepard. People within our community suggested that I choose "Jane Shepard" for my playthrough over the male version, so I just defaulted to that. I made a blunder, but in the end, it is what it is.
It'll still be an incredibly enjoyable experience for you, I promise! I made the conscious decision to pick Soldier the first time round 'cause I wanted to keep it simple and I still loved the games. People need to read the comments before repeating the same thing, it ends up having the opposite effect. Besides, it's everything else in the game that makes this experience truly special. I'm loving the playthrough, and almost all of us here are incredibly excited for this playthrough, and we can't wait to be on the rest of the journey with you!
It's all good. What makes Shepard special ain't looks, anyway. What matters is the choices the player makes and the amazing voice performance by Jennifer Hale.
I'm SO very excited! What a great start :) Don't worry about the technobabble, it will definitely get easier as you play - and the abilities and weapons too! ME1 is a bit overloaded but it will be okay. Cannot wait to see more episodes, I really really hope you like and enjoy this game and go through the whole trilogy :) Cannot wait to hear more of your thoughts on this universe and everything! We're off!!
AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH it's here! So so happy to watch you guys play this. Also, I see Femshep in the thumbnail 👀 I personally love Jennifer Hale's voice acting, so I'm even more excited! Here we are, about to embark on another remarkable journey, and I can't wait to be here for all of it!
A few things that will perhaps help you both in terms of navigating the game: • *Dialogues* - As you may have figured out already, the left side of the dialogues are generally optional, and if you want to explore all the optional dialogues, you can exhaust all those options on the left. Sometimes, progressive choices can also be on the left, but there's only one choice on each side if that's ever the case. • *Paragon and Renegade* - You may have noticed the Paragon and Renegade bars when you go to your squad point menu. You pick up Paragon points by being more honourable, by generally picking the nicer dialogue options or just generally going the more "peaceful and good" route. Charm options unlock Paragon points. The opposite is generally the case for Renegade. Intimidate unlocks Renegade points. *HOWEVER* there's no correct way to play the game. There will be times when choices are not nearly as clear cut, and things will be more complex, so Renegade may be the better option in those circumstances. Although, it's more clear-cut in ME1 I'd say. A Paragon-dominant playthrough elevates your first experience in terms of storytelling, but keep in mind that Paragon doesn't always equate to good or better, so it's okay to play however you see fit and what you think suits your game and line of thinking the best. You guys have already chosen a few Renegade dialogues, and it's been a nice mix haha, some of it was funny as well. The top progressive dialogue is a Paragon dialogue and the bottom progressive dialogue is a Renegade dialogue. You'll also see Charm options at the top, and Intimidate options at the bottom. • *Charm and Intimidate* - As you guys have noticed, you need charm and intimdate points to unlock dialogue options that may come in handy, and they're certainly incredibly beneficial. I'd recommend committing to one path more than the other. Unlocking more charm points will be more useful if you want to mainly do a Paragon run and unlocking more intimidate points will be more useful if you want to do a Renegade run. Updating both alongside each other may lock certain Charm or Intimidate choices out if one doesn't have enough points, so that's something to keep in mind! You can still update both, but it's just best to commit to one more than the other. • *Squad Members* - This game shares one similarity with RDR2 in the sense that talking to your squad members after each main/major side mission will unlock new dialogues. So talking to each squad member after each mission will maximize your experience! Sorry for typing out an incredibly long message, but I thought it might be a tad helpful for the series!
I completely understand the 'no correct way to play the game' statement, but also there is absolutely an objectively correct way to play the game. 😂 It's the way were all the companions stay alive and you don't accidentally (or on purpose) lock yourself out of anything in 2 or 3. You can absolutely balls up a play through of all 3 games in the first half of the first game. Love it. Just saying. 😁
@@MrLilredmachine Oh I know, but this is more so about the overall playing style and all the choices in between. I did say that a Paragon-dominant playthrough will elevate their experience in terms of storytelling, and knowing Eric & Sarah, it will be just that, at least when it comes to the major decisions!
I'd say Mass Effect is mostly about storytelling, dialogues and character interactions, codex is important to understand the world. And the combat is secondary (at least for me).
Y'all didn't have to pick the default Jane. You could have entered a new ID and made your own character and picked your own origin, class, and history, but still kept the same physical appearance as Jane.
I love that you read the lore. There’s so many interesting tidbits. I have the same issue as Sarah when it comes to high fantasy and sci fi stories, but I find that mass effect is relatively grounded compared to a lot of other things.
0:50 I sure am! I know I couldn't shut up about this 😂 I've said this before, but I felt the same way as Sarah, I'm not generally into typical sci-fi media with the usual sci-fi tropes either, but I ended up loving it because it's as grounded as it can be, and they do a phenomenal job of setting up the world! Or universe rather. I hope you guys end up feeling the same way! But it's also okay if you don't, I'm just glad you guys are giving it a shot!

Welcome to the best universe in gaming. If you love lore/reading the codex, you will be playing the trilogy until Christmas. It’s so worth it. Can’t wait to see how you play 🎉
An amazing first episode of what is likely to be a beautifully memorable series! Glad you guys are liking it already, will only get better as you progress! And if you like the combat already, that gets progressively better with each game as well! It's certainly overwhelming at first, but much like RDR2, it gets a lot easier to digest everything the more you progress. There's information overload in the first few hours for world-building purposes, but once you start to grasp everything to do with the world, story and characters, it gets easier to digest everything as you go along! Loved hearing your thoughts and watching you read the lore as always. There'll be a plethora of thoughts across the trilogy and I can't wait to hear them all! Cant wait for the next episode!
I'm so hyped for this. This is the perfect channel for a ME playthrough. I'm tempted to throw out some non-spoilery tips, but I'll see how things progress before I get too hyped about it.
If you're talking about my comment, that's exactly what I said, to play however they see fit, and that there's no right way to play. I didn't suggest focusing on Paragon or Renegade lol
yess im so excited for this !! while the story for this game is amazing and one of the reasons its my fave trilogy ever, the characters are the true heart of it and im excited to see you meet them all !! and im very glad you chose femshep, jennifer hale did a wonderful job voice acting her, and she was one of the first female protags i ever saw as a child, when the gaming space was very male-dominated back then.
Long post ahead… So what I love most and what excites me about this playthrough the most is when I was a kid I wanted this game so bad but could never get it. As an adult I finally started the 1st 1 a few years ago before stopping halfway through due to lack of time. Which I hated so much because I LOVED the game. So seeing you guys play it now I will be able to experience this awesome journey along with you guys. That combined with the thought and care you give these series, makes me so grateful 😊
This series is so good. I have only played the first two but they are both awesome especially the 2nd game. It's one of my favorites of all time. I'll be playing the 3rd very soon
I’m so excited for this! This is one of my favorite trilogies of all time and I’m not even huge a sci-fi fan. I understand how overwhelming this is for you guys, but you’ll get the hang of it eventually. I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far!
Okay, this should be fun! Watched many of your reaction videos, so I'm intrigued to see what you'll make of Mass Effect. Creating a FemShep was a good call. As the series goes on, Jennifer Hale's voice acting gets turned all the way up to 11! I've played these games many, many times now, and FemShep has definitely become my default Shepard. Note: I see people have already discussed the effects of Paragon and Renegade dialogue choices, so just remember: top right is usually the Paragon option; bottom right is usually the Renegade option. Won't say any more because I don't want to repeat things you've already been told. Just go and enjoy!
I played this trilogy like ten times and yet I am so super stoked to watch you two play it for yourself ❤ I know you will do justice to it by playing it very thoroughly and I can't wait to witness this wild ride with you ❤yaaaaay :)))
My favorite part of Eden Prime is Kaidan and Ashley going what is that, off in the distance, woah its a ship! And you look up and see it take off. And first timers here on YT almost never look UP, darn it! Lol lol Fun episode, thank you, i hope to find as i watch in the future that you guys fall in love with this game!
just a clarification regarding charm/intimidate points. Since in ME 1 you always get both a charm and intimidate option during a dialogue, it is a waste to put points in both options. Just keep either the charm or intimidate option maxed out and ignore the other one. putting points into both things simply wastes points that can be better spent in other categories. Don't worry about taking the stock Jane soldier option. Soldiers are still fun to play and also have their own set of powers, such as the one you have now for assault rifles. The replay value of the ME games is amazing, I have played all classes of both genders and they are all fun. This game is all about trip, not the destination. The story, lore and characters is what make this trilogy my all time favorite. One last note, certain classes can only use certain types of armor. Shepard and Ash can use medium armor and eventually heavy armor ( once you have enough talent points). Poor Kaiden is a sentinel and can only use light armor. Anyways, enjoying your run so far, loving that you two are getting into the lore. Fair warning, your next couple episodes are going to be very info heavy, but after that things become much faster paced and action oriented. Good luck !
I'm so excited for y'all! I was also uninterested for the longest time, but then i decided to try the game out, loved it ever since. Here's some non spoiler tips on gameplay since it doesn't dive too deep on them. Your conversation wheel can be split into four easy areas: Left side is info gathering and won't end the talk, the right sides top option is good (Paragon), the middle one is neutral, and the bottom option is bad (Renegade), and these either further or ends the conversation. Paragon and Renegade is the games morality system, shaping your Shepard. My best advice pick whatever route you want, but choose what you want to do! Don't let it dictate your decisions fully. For example, my Sheps Paragon with a quarter Renegade lol. That's it for now, but looking forward to the rest of your playthrough!
I've played these games literally dozens of times over the years. It's absolutely one of my favourite series of games ever. I really hope you can get into it and love it as much as a lot of people.
You have no idea where this ride is going to take you. Mass Effect is going to change your gaming experience forever. You're doing good, keep exploring every dialogue option. It's the key. Also invest in either charm or intimidate points. The more you have the better and they're essential to open up dialogue options that wouldn't be accessible otherwise. These help getting the best outcome for some missions.
Hi! New subscriber here! You guys are in for quite a journey. 😊❤️. Mass Effect is my favorite gaming series ever. I’ll help you guys along the way for tips and lore if needed. No spoilers. Have fun-Tris. 😊❤️
Let's gooo! This will be a long series but it's totally worth it, this game series is one of the best. I think you could have figure this by now but at the start, besides choosing your female or male Shepard, you could have created your own Shepard down to appearance, background story and type of class (which influences your powers and skill posibilites and affinities)! Also, I've never seen a female Shepard run so this will be interesting!
The GOAT! My favorite RPGs ever. In fairness I came to this game completely by accident. I was desperately searching for a role-playing game and all the role playing games I played previously usually involved some kind of magic and swords. But this game..... Changed everything. And I've played their other series Dragon age which I love. Play elder scrolls and fallout. Final fantasy all the good stuff.. I love role playing games. But this one is everything.
I dunno why, but this playthrough is making me realize that I would love to see a Borderlands playthrough from you guys if you haven't played already :) one of my absolute favorite franchises and it's so much fun to watch people react to!
Only 16 mins in but please keep reading the codex! I love it. I hope you talk to everyone as well. :) Bummed you didn't hear the squad and look up at 1 hour 23
Honestly i would have just maxed out charm and intimidation early on to unlock some dialog choices early on. Love that you guys are reading the lore to understand the world.
My favorite game series. I have played the trilogy once a year for a decade. I also love bioware's other big series, dragon age. I play those often as well.
This series is wonderful. All three games are connected. It’s like one big story. Some of the bigger decisions you’ll make in the game carry over from game to game so make sure you choose the right ones. The left side of the dialogue wheel always continues the conversation. The right side will end the conversation most of the time. This game has great lore. I’m hoping one day they make a TV show out of it like they did would fall out.
I know you’re several weeks ahead here but one thing to note, different manufacturers have different specialties with equipment. One might make high quality guns but basic armor. Another might make top of the line armor but only basic weapons. Some, like Elkoss Combine, make mass produced lower quality variants of other manufacturers equipment
It's GOOD that players read the lore of Mass Effect. Also strongly recommend reading/listening to the three Mass Effect Audiobooks (the 4th book is not recommended and is dismissed by Mass Effect fans)
As you've seen, Shepard goes to missions with two squad mates. Try to always have with you at least somebody who has points in Decryption and maybe Electronics too or you won't be able to hack locked containers to loot (keep that in mind when you choose where you put skill points). Oh, I see you've experienced it.
Only 7 hours ago this lp was started, so in case you care I'll tell you before you go too deep. By clicking Jane Shepard instead of New Id, you skipped picking your backstory, class, and customizing your look, in case you want to check those out off camera and maybe catch up to where you are so far
After playing all 3 games I can definitely confirm that the VA for FemShep is better but I still enjoy BroShep’s VA but that’s probably most likely I played as him first.
You are about to experience a trilogy that is near and dear to many players around the globe. Like many stories it is flawed, so nothing out of ordinary with the cheesey one liners and cliche storyline, and yet....the world building and characters breath life into this. I promise you this. Stick true to the story and you'll experience why many others before me consider this game a core memory. Welcome to Mass Effect. I should go.
I love the cosmic horror vibe of Mass Effect 1,2 and 3. Horror in general, bust cosmic horror really tickles my curiousity and curiousity is my main driver in live. I just wish they kep the same style of writing for Andromeda. Andromena kind of lost it's cosmic horror vibe and it's deep writing with nuanced dialogues and subtle humour. It's more bright and goody and kind of shallow as if they're trying to kater to sensitive children.
I wouldn't say that female Shepard has a better voice over, they are both great, it's just that the voice actress/entire female version of Shepard was very underappreciated in ME1 and ME2 because all the advertisment was with the male version, so now people tend to recommend her good choice either way, just didn't want you to think that the male version is terrible or something
5:03 You really should have chosen Enter new IP. By picking one of the default Shepards you just cut off the character creator and have no choice of picking your background (= Origin and Rpeutation) or character class (the default Shepard is always of the soldier class which is ok combatwise but the least interesting), and neither can you pick your own appeareance (yes, you can fully customize the looks of your Shepard). This doesn't affect the voice actors btw - a customized character has the same voice lines/actors as the premade ones of course. The default names are John and Jane btw because John and Jane Doe are the names used for unidentified people.
Jane Shepard is the original design of Commander Shepard. The only reason why John Shepard exists is for marketing purposes because most Gamers are Male. Even though I only play Jane Shepard.
Well that's too bad you didn't make your own Shepard, and Soldier is also the least interesting class to play (it's just guns... no tech or telekinetic abilities, very boring). Don't want to be a bummer, so have fun anyway I guess this is still a great game...
Since people will probably continue to keep mentioning it, at the time I was not aware of the customization options when I first created my Shepard. People within our community suggested that I choose "Jane Shepard" for my playthrough over the male version, so I just defaulted to that. I made a blunder, but in the end, it is what it is.

Good luck !
Yesssss so excited to see yous play this!
Always great to see new players begin an incredible journey us OG Mass Effect players experienced all those years ago.
Enjoy the ride👍
Welcome to Mass Effect universe! Haven’t really seen two people playing this game! Hope you enjoy!
Congrats on deciding to play this, in for one hell of a ride spanning 3 games.
OH MY GOD! yall are in for a ride 😂
This game has some of the best thought-out lore. Glad to see you are digging it!
I know you're not space nerds lol, but the matriarch is commander troi from star trek tng/picard
Bummed you didn't hear the squad and look up at 1 hour 23
Oh also, Nihlus was voiced by Mimir's actor, Alastair Duncan!
I've been playing this game for years, but was today's old when I finally got the Leeroy Jenkins reference.
"Don't die on me, fellas!" Famous last words.
Jenkins is one of the most red shirt names ever, second only to Johnson.
OH HELLLLLLLL YA THEY DOIN ITTTTTTT Mass Effect , dis da game right hereeeeeee
I know you’re several weeks ahead here but one thing to note, different manufacturers have different specialties with equipment. One might make high quality guns but basic armor. Another might make top of the line armor but only basic weapons. Some, like Elkoss Combine, make mass produced lower quality variants of other manufacturers equipment
OMG! You're doing ME! Let's go!
Sus bro
Oh I hope you both like this. Mass Effect 2 specifically is tied with RDR2 for my favorite all time game.
It's GOOD that players read the lore of Mass Effect.
Also strongly recommend reading/listening to the three Mass Effect Audiobooks (the 4th book is not recommended and is dismissed by Mass Effect fans)
Also I personally love when people dive into the lore.
As you've seen, Shepard goes to missions with two squad mates. Try to always have with you at least somebody who has points in Decryption and maybe Electronics too or you won't be able to hack locked containers to loot (keep that in mind when you choose where you put skill points).
Oh, I see you've experienced it.
If you guys had chosen “Enter New ID” you guys could have chosen Shepard’s background and class. Also customized her appearance
Rest in peace, Jenkins. We hardly knew you.
love mass effect games yes you play this one. That voice is Keith David from they live.
"Could be your last......" RIP Jenkins
Ok ngl, this is gonna be good!
Only 7 hours ago this lp was started, so in case you care I'll tell you before you go too deep. By clicking Jane Shepard instead of New Id, you skipped picking your backstory, class, and customizing your look, in case you want to check those out off camera and maybe catch up to where you are so far
Blue lady is Troi from star trek next generation
Didn’t see it mentioned here. Hold X to sprint.
Ayyyy female Sheperd, yes! Best. Just like female V is the best voice for cyberpunk 77 too
Incoming Analysis/Paralysis ... happens to the best of us.
Best triology of all time
I love the cosmic horror vibe of Mass Effect 1,2 and 3.
I wouldn't say that female Shepard has a better voice over, they are both great, it's just that the voice actress/entire female version of Shepard was very underappreciated in ME1 and ME2 because all the advertisment was with the male version, so now people tend to recommend her
good choice either way, just didn't want you to think that the male version is terrible or something
You can sprint pretty fast, for a few seconds. Turn some low value stuff, that you don't need, to omnigel. You need some, but not a lot.
Not liking Sci fi is a capital offense in the nerd world.😂 Maybe this series will change your mind.
Yeah, the number of times people bring up your trauma on Akuze like it’s the raddest thing ever is kind of interesting…
Jane Shepard is the original design of Commander Shepard.
The only reason why John Shepard exists is for marketing purposes because most Gamers are Male.
Even though I only play Jane Shepard.
mass effect treilller are the best too
Prepare yourself for a long journey
I'm gonna resist my meme based comments until you get further into the game, if you stick with it. But until then, I hope you enjoy it!
Didnt watch it yet but people say you read the lore? If that so you will get a sub lol
Yo bro so am Sony guy 😮
You could up the difficulty, this is embarrassingly easy!
Well that's too bad you didn't make your own Shepard, and Soldier is also the least interesting class to play (it's just guns... no tech or telekinetic abilities, very boring). Don't want to be a bummer, so have fun anyway I guess this is still a great game...
turn off the auto level up!!! you want to put your points into charisma and intimidate. trust me.
