My brother and I rented ys 3 SNES when we were kids. We cheated by leaving adol swinging at respawning ants overnight. When we woke up, adol was Max level in the first dungeon. Great memories.

Love your passion for the Ys series! I played this back on SNES and PSP, couldn't be happier to fire this up on the PS5. Gameplay definitely hits the sweet spot!
I loved YS III on SNES back in the day, not only the music, but also the early anime style graphics (in America) at that time. Thanks for the well done deep dives on such an iconic series! 😎
Yes! Ys III (snes) opening is superior to The Oath In Felghana opening. And the music... omg. Wish I could buy the snes version somewhere on newer hardware.

I have the switch version pre-ordered but might have to grab the PS5 version too. I got both YS10 Nordics Collectors Editions and don't regret it one bit. I played it on PS5 kept switch version sealed so I'm thinking I'll do the same with OAF
PSP was how I first played Felghana, I'm not sure if I'll grab this new version right away but I'm glad it's getting ported. I hope some of the other old Ys games get ported to modern platforms for more players. (Still waiting for Ys V someday). Glad to see Ys still on the channel after all these years.
I spoke recently with a former Hudson employee about why the TurboGrafx/PC engine version was handled the way it was with the choppy scrolling. The devs at Alfa Team who worked on it were sticking to replicating the grfx of the pc-88 version of the game, but with upgraded redbook audio. The employee that I talked to said he definitely would have upgraded the graphics one way or another instead of trying to replicate the original.
Its because of you making all of the YS videos over the years that I finally decided to try Lacrimosa of Dana, beat it, loved it and bought the entire franchise from steam lol.
My favorite of the series. My first Y's game was Ark of Napishtim and I was immediately hooked. Together with Oath in Felghana and Origin are my top 3. I wish Ys would go back to this style. I liked 8 and Nordics (hated Monstrum Nox) but i feel they're not Ys anymore. Plays like every other modern action RPG with TONS of PITA side quests. If I wanted to do never ending side quests I would play a Trails game.
i kind of feel a similar way. i liked the napishtim and felghana era of ys a lot. as controversial as it is, i even like the bump system. ys 1 is one of my favorites in the series because you can just pick it up and beat it in one sitting and have a great time.
I sort of agree. One of the things I loved about the older Ys games was the fact that they respected the players time somewhat. Minus the grinding, the side quests were fewer, but much more meaningful.
Love your videos and enthusiasm. I finally got into the Ys series with Ys VIII during Covid and loved it. I totally forgot this was coming out and was pleasantly surprised to find out today that its release date is only a few days away.

First time ever hearing about Ys was from this channel. And super happy about that! Have a pre order of this and can't wait to try more older Ys games!
Yet to play Ys 3 so definitely getting this. I’m a big fan of the series now and going back through them. Ys X was my game of the year and I first played the PC engine version of books 1 and 2 on Wii virtual console because of you

Thanx buddy. Had pre-ordered this, hoping it would hold up to the original, while giving it an Y’s origins style makeover. You’ve eliminated any doubts I had. ☺️
Still watching but I'm going to reply the question: YESSS! Wanderers on the SNES was my first ever Ys game, and while not the finest I enjoyed it :) Then fast forward to modern times I played a LOT of Ys games on Steam, including Oath in Felghana and it's FANTASTIC, got all the Achievements, love the challenge, music, high octane ARPG combat and now I'm super looking forward to getting Memoire! Love this and love your videos! Thanks for making it!
I remember playing through the PSP version twice back-to-back the year I got it for Christmas. It's very rare a game gets its claws into me that deeply!
I love Ys III. I played through it on the SNES, Genesis, and Turbo CD, but I haven't yet played Oath in Felghana and will be picking this up in January.
Ys Oath in Felghana was my first ys game, back in the psp era. I remember watching a gameplay video for the game decades ago and it blew away my mind. Now i have Ys 8 in my top 5 best games ever
I have played the daylights out of the Napishtim engine games. I absolutely love them to death. Imported Felghana and Origin from Japan back in 2009 or 10. Played the PS2, PSP and PC version of Napishtim itself and have basically 100% completed all of them. Not sure if I will get this version or not but it is good to see!
@austinnafziger4159 I agree 👍 Im playing Ys Viii and really struggling to get through it. I'm at the end of ch 5 so getting there. I honestly think the Vita version plays better. The added Dana game play is a total drag . I dread playing everytime it shifts back to her time line ..ugh. I still really like the game but not like Oath and Napishtim.
I remember you recommending this back in 2012 or so and I still haven't played through an Ys game. I think 2025 might finally be the time. Great review as usual.
Ever since I saw the Japanese release of this edition pop up on Play Asia, I was hoping that we'd get this version. The box art is a masterpiece, I love how they created that. Guaranteed day 1 purchase of this physical.
hey there.. off topic but since i know you are a fan of the suikoden series, was wondering how stoked are about Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars coming in march!? it's been delayed so many times.. suikoden 1 and 2 are still my favorite Rpgs of all time.. wish the series would have been more popular here with more games.i still have not played Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, heard it's a spiritual successor to Suikoden. have you played it? if so what were your thoughts on it, and ever think about doing a video about the suikoden games, ranking them and all?
I already played the version on PC, and loved it. I don't see myself picking up another version of this however. I've still gotta play through Ys IX, X, Seven, and Celceta. V is never going to get localized, is it?
I wonder if my old copy on steam will get a voice mod or something, lol, here's to hoping! Update: This happened in 2020, wow! The English voice track for Ys: The Oath in Felghana, originally exclusive to the console release, has been added as part of an update to the PC version. Additionally, the alternate soundtracks from the console version (PC-88 and X68K) have been implemented.
Thanks for this! I played Oath in Felghana in spring of this year and I kept wondering what all the reviewers were going on about because I see no differences between what I played on PC and what's being shown now.
Sucks that the only physical versions come with a lot of crap I don't need. Just want the game in a normal case. As for the game itself, I never thought this one was as great as everyone else did. Falling all the way to the bottom of certain levels really brought the title down for me. Otherwise it's super fun though. The music is amazing.
Felghana is still my favorite because of the story, OST (especially when modded to Ys III PCECD Ryo OST) and the Galbalan boss fight. I never played another newer Ys game to completion afterwards (you kinda know why, I only started the Ys Origin localization project and that "other guy" took it all over...) so I can't weigh the quality of newer ones. Ys Book I&II would be the next runner up or rank 2nd place.
@@NightWolve75 I think if I didn't fall and have to spend so much time backtracking my way up I would've had a much rosier view. It didn't happen just once, the enemies kept knocking me off in both the ice cave and Valestine. I never returned to the game.
@GameSack Oh wow! "Ys IV: Mask of the Sun" was so boring I gave up on that mid way. I got stuck first, realized I'd have to start over when I resumed months later, but decided that it's just not worth it simply because it claims to be an Ys game. The way it downgraded so much from Dawn of Ys which I love and localized factored into it.
i'm sure you already know this but it's because の ("no") in Japanese is usually translated as "of" in English. The listings in different places are translating it literally without knowing about the game and what the translators originally wanted it to be in English.
Yes SUR!! I pre-ordered my PS5 copy and can’t wait! I also own the SNES version which was my introduction to the series. I beat it a few times and through the yrs keep coming back to it.
I preodered it months ago for the Switch. Really looking forward to it. Orgin really grew on me the more I played it, so excited for a game in the Napishtim engine.
I played this game on the PSP. It was one of my favorite YS games. I can’t wait to play it on the switch. I liked origins because it reminded me of this game. ❤❤❤❤😊
@@1DangerMouse1they ran on the same engine on pc when they released. It's the same engine that Ark used as well, which I believe is derivative of the engine for Ys I&II eternal
Are there any differences between this version, and the 2012 release for PC? If I have this game on Steam, do they do anything more than change a few profile pictures, and add a few menu options to make it worth looking into picking up what looks to be the exact same game once more?
I was not happy with purchasing Ys 3 on the TG-16, but I loved the remake on PC. I'm surprised this is the first time it is coming to the consoles. But, I already have it... it even still runs and looks great on my 2009 laptop. So why get it on the PS5 or Switch? Just asking.
I played the PC version of Felghana since it was released, first in japanese, then the translation from fans, and then the official one in Steam, one of my favorite Ys ever, i put that soundtrack on my car always rocking!!!🤟🤟
Old Y’s games arent really on my radar because I don’t have a history with them. But that soundtrack and David Lodge’s voice acting makes a compelling case!
Out of Felghana was the name given to a leaked fan patch made by a coder named Nightwolve and a translator named Deuce. A lot of drama resulted from trusting random people on the internet... XseeD released Oath in Felghana on PC and now they are bringing this remastered version. I do hope that this version comes to PC some day because the old PC version runs at an unlocked frame rate and it breaks the game, the stronger your card is. Even when everything is maxed out it can run above 800 FPS.
Wanderer from Ys, Ys III was one of my favorite games on the SNES. Recently I played ys 8, ys origin, and ys IX monstrum nox on the switch. Oath in Felghana is a day 1 purchase.
Ok 6:55 in video , that dialogue am i the only one getting different message about sword seeing a LOT of action? 😂 with such tempted voice… did they translate the game at an adult entertainment studio ?! 😅
Ys Oath In Felghana is my favorite Ys game! I'm looking forward to this game more than any other right now. I pre-ordered the refined edition. I'm wondering whether or not you used the updated character portraits. I think I'll probably use them.
I'll definitely grab this at some point since I loved playing the snes and psp versions. What irritates me though is the PS4 physical is Japan only and there is really no reason for that. I would have wanted to get it on the PS4 physically to go with my other YS games, maybe I'll just import it.
Y's the adventure continues Fascinating to see a remaster. I remember Y's 3rd entry box art. If only they used the in game art style for box art back then. So if this an expansion of the original. I remember reading how short the original game was. So this must be a more robust adventure. And the art style. Neat extra features throughout Speaking of the music, I recall an artist named Levo Lution, and they made several remixes of RPG classic tunes.
How have they not given an option for the PC Engine music, the best version of the music?!?!? They did this with Ys Chronicles as well, I had to mod in the PC Engine music...
My brother and I rented ys 3 SNES when we were kids. We cheated by leaving adol swinging at respawning ants overnight. When we woke up, adol was Max level in the first dungeon. Great memories.
Lol glad someone else did this, i used one of my mom's ankle weights to hold the attack button down and cheesed it
@baceff6478 we used the leg of a small chair. We were pretty ingenious for kids I think!
Great Memories of Felghana, even, lol.
I did something similar with the stage with the owls. I kept up attacking.
There's a debug code built into the game that lets you turn on invincibility, makes that version much more playable lol.

Ys games are one of my all time fav jrpgs
Same here, along with Final Fantasy.
I played this game I don't even know how many years ago and I loved it!
The sound effects are just amazing.
Old Y’s games arent really on my radar because I don’t have a history with them. But that soundtrack and David Lodge’s voice acting makes a compelling case!
Woah! This looks like Ys Origins I'm In!
Looks fun
Y's the adventure continues
Fascinating to see a remaster.
I remember Y's 3rd entry box art. If only they used the in game art style for box art back then.
So if this an expansion of the original. I remember reading how short the original game was. So this must be a more robust adventure.
And the art style. Neat extra features throughout
Speaking of the music, I recall an artist named Levo Lution, and they made several remixes of RPG classic tunes.
How have they not given an option for the PC Engine music, the best version of the music?!?!? They did this with Ys Chronicles as well, I had to mod in the PC Engine music...
