Absolutely not. I was so looking forward to playing this on the switch as it is my preferred platform for cozy games :( I do have a gaming oc but I just love playing games in my bed^^. We really need a new Nintendo console or maybe I really should get a steam deck
I was 100% planning on getting this game until I saw multiple reviews saying performance wasn’t good. I urge game companies to delay games that aren’t complete. I won’t be picking this up anymore.
Thank you for honest opinion. I love My Time at Portia but played 1/3 of the game because it gives mi nausea. Switch is my only console, I don't have pc so I will not buy Sandrock.

This game is very poorly made
I learned from My Time at Portia on the Switch, that I would Not Ever play Sandrock on the Switch. There is way too much going on in this game for the Switch to handle it. I play on PC and love it.

Its not that too much is going on... its just badly ported 😅
You definitely should give it a second chance on PC. It is grindy but the whole experience feels way better, and you'll easily see item descriptions. 😅

@@PaytonsCornerIf you don't like the grind you can use trainers or cheap engines to get rid of aspects of sandrock you dont like.
Personally I use a trainer to eliminate the production timer BS and it makes sandrock so much more enjoyable
@@PaytonsCorner Yeah I saw how horrible Portia even looked on Switch when I got it on a sale so I got it on PC and it was way WAY better so when Sandrock happened? I went for PC and no regrets. It feels so good, even the combat feels better.
I’m only a Nintendo Switch girl! So thanks so much for this review!! I’ll def still be getting this game, as I loved Portia sooooo much! I have so many hours in it. I’ll just wait for more patches and updates to Sandrock before purchasing.
Me too! I bought My Time at Portia on sale on ps4 and switch and both performed perfectly fine for me. I've heard a lot of mixed to negative reviews about MTAP switch but tbh even my lite handled it fine. The loading screens were janky but bar that, I had no issues and have sunk hundreds of hours into various saves. I definitely want to get Sandrock on switch but might wait a little bit first. Plenty of other games to fill the void ahaha. Also while I wait for Slime Rancher 2 to come out on a device I have OTZ lmaooo

The PC performance is MILES above the switch version. I bought both Portia and Sandrock during a steam sale for 42 bucks total and I think it's totally worth it for the incredible amount of content. I opted to start Portia first so I get all the lore and so far I'm doing well. It is a bit more difficult to find things in the mines in Portia than in Sandrock, and I'm hoping I get better at mining soon because you absolutely have to mine. In Sandrock, the only combat around your workshop is actually the Alpha Yakmel and the Rocket Roosters. Everything else is neutral until you get to the Rockenyarolls, which are pretty easy to avoid. The mine combat and Geegler combat is easy if you are properly equipped. Basically, the switch versions of both games are unplayable to me, but the PC versions are scratching all my itches :)
I played portia on the switch and while it wasn't too bad for me personally I know others had problems. I was waiting for sandrocks release on the switch but because I'm in Australia I was waiting longer but it showed up on ps5 before the switch and much cheaper and I bought it there instead and I'm so glad I did. It looks gorgeous on the ps5
I'm sure I'll buy it on the switch when it's on sale but gosh these graphics are rough
I'm playing it on Steam Deck right now and it's running really well. I have it on medium graphics and capped at 30fps, and it's running smoothly. I haven't had the bugs you described yet, like the descriptions for items not showing, so they must have fixed that (or it's only present on the Switch version). I'm a few hours in and really enjoying it so far. I don't mind that it's a little grindy; it's nice and relaxing, in my opinion. The biggest plus for me compared with My Time At Portia is being able to save whenever you like! I barely played MTAP because I really didn't like having to play a whole day at a time. This is much more accessible for short play sessions. Definitely give the game another go now it's released fully and has been patched, and definitely play it on PC/Steam Deck over Switch for sure. 💜

I got it on the switch because I only have a switch and I like it so far it’s not the best but it’s what I got I can’t complain .

I played 50 hours on PC and if you can pick between the two devices, I highly recommend this game on pc. You have to progress in the game to reap the benefits of the atmosphere, as the game clearly states from the beginning that the town is in hardship, but more and more of the world comes to life as you go on and the grind, though apparent, is pretty fun to me. It doesn't feel like too much of a grind, especially if you are familiar with how portia games are and how to time manage (a personal weakness of mine lol ). Farms do make it feel less deserty, which I needed cause I don't like the desert lol
The characters are so much more full than in Portia (and I did like Portia). I have not encountered bugs on PC other than a graphical hiccup here and there (EA), but heard it's rough on Switch right now.
You do need several different machines, if not multiple of the same type (to avoid the grindiness somewhat).
Mining has always been my fav. Portia did it amazingly as well. Sandrock did this more interestingly because you see more places and find pockets of battles. Those, nor the explosives were there much in Portia.
You can have animals at your shop, really cute ones, and you can interact with them and have horses, etc.
Can't say anything about combat, it's fine enough and not too overbearing but meh. Nor how the switch works with it lol I didn't care for controller with this game so that would drive me crazy. Inventory management is quicker with mouse and (as also someone who is chronic) really wish it was better with controller.
I hope this gets better on the switch. I really love this game and wish more people could experience it as it is. but I can imagine it's hard to deal with u.u
My time at Portia on Switch for my was mini disaster. I choose to play my time at Sandrock on PC and I love the game ❤
They released on ps5 yesterday and I played it. Loading screens weren’t bad. Graphics were fine. You do have to grind a bit for things , but all in all , I like it so far. I think the storyline gets better as you play.
Ive played mytime at Portia and mytime at sandrock and my time at sandrock has alot of quality improvements over Portia. The story moves faster than in Portia, there are quality of life improvements such as not having to equip items in the quick bar to build on the assembly station and being able to take more than 1 commission at a time once you advance enough, the graphical improvements (for Pc). I love the lore they've built on from the last game and the cutesy apocalypse setting. I think the biggest thing about it being grindy is valid. But I was used to Portia being grindy (and worse at that) its biggest pros (for me) is the unique aesthetic in the farm sim genre, i feel like it stands out more against typical cozy farm sims. And the fact that its not actually a farm sim. But it still plays like one mostly.
While I haven’t player Portia, Sandrock does definitely seem to be an improvement over its performance on Switch. Typically don’t care for graphics since I have a Switch Lite, though if it doesn’t run great even in handheld that’s a bit concerning.
Just to be safe I’ll most likely get it physically so I can return it if it bothers me that much, even if it means having to wait a bit (since it appears to release on the 17th). Also maybe I’m just dumb but can’t tell if the physical will actually have a cartridge or not since it says “download required” in almost every product picture I see. Hopefully it just means the outfit DLCs
After playing my time at Portia on the switch and having the cows walk around on their heads with their butts and their back legs being the only thing above ground, I immediately got my time at sand rock on steam when it was available and now have over 400 hours in the game. I am just finishing my second playthrough and I am beyond excited that it is finally out!!! I have just under 300 hours on my time at Portia on steam if that tells you anything😅😅 I think I've played it through three times. Not sure if I've ever fully finished the game lols
the switch footage compared to pc footage is (unintentionally) hilarious lol. portia on pc had high levels of jank BUT i think it shows how strong the story/characters were that ppl, despite the jank, loved the game and rallied behind its successor. so glad you're not giving up on the game; imo the my time series has such a unique, dark but somehow silly take on the genre that i would absolutely play more games in this universe
NINTENDO: plz make sure the next switch can handle these games, the streets need it, clearly not everyone can have the pleasure of pc gaming and it would be a shame these folks would keep missing out on fun experiences like this!!
I want to get my time at sandrock but I’m guessing it will not be the Switch version… how do you think the ps5 version will perform?
I played and adored portia but i learnt from that game for once i didnt get on with the controller controls as much... and thats normally my preference. So i knew going into sandrock itd have to be pc for me. I got it as early access but decided to stop to wait for full release.
I honestly like the more grinding aspects of bigger builds my brain works well with giving me lists to get through just take it at a slower pace one piece at a time. But i can see why it could be offputting to some!
I played my Time at Portia on PC and loved it so much. I backed Sandrock on Kickstarter and got beta keys but couldn't get into Sandrock as much because it lacks green and feels way more grindy. I might give it a chance eventually. I'm sure my experience was probably soured by all the bugs in beta, but maybe it got better since.

Yes it is!!! That’s the endometriosis one in the background! I love her, there are so many negative representations of chronic illnesses and she just gives off such good vibes and joy! All their designs are awesome but I’m extra biased and think the Endo one is especially cute!
I love cozy games like Stardew and Coral Island and I wanted to love this game. I wanted to love the story and the romances. I didn’t get that far though, sadly. I don’t might light grinding, but as someone with severe ADHD, I found that the step-heavy projects to grind out actually took this out of the “cozy” zone for me. I could never remember everything I needed to when I was out and about and ended up wasting more time as a result.
I can relate to that. I get so distracted and it’s hard to finish tasks because I wanna do so much to focus on one thing.
I don’t have ADHD but I definitely relate to that, you can try writing it down, it helps me a lot, I even do it with animal crossing and stardew bc I tend forget what I have to do
Hey, how did you find the ability to be stimulated by Stardew? I've got ADHD and find games like Diablo4, or multiplayer games keep me going for so long. But, I actually want to be relaxed instead of stimulated. Tried stardew but really found it difficult to get into, as things are very slow. But, I know that slow/stillness is actually helpful.
@@Jaffer_cake I suppose it’s because I have specific goals. For me? I want a lot of money so I can make my house look the way I want and play with my characters appearance. I walk backwards from there and focus on the things that will get me there. Farming for gold, mining for ore to upgrade my tools to farm better, etc. So yeah, my advice would be setting an overall goal and figuring out 1-2 tasks to focus on that will help you get there. :)

Also, I feel bad for those burned on the switch version. Especially if it’s true that save files can be deleted from advancing a buggy late game quest. I hope they patch that out quickly!

I've had zero issues playing Portia on the switch. Guess I'm lucky! I don't feel compelled to get this since it's so similiar to Portia. I also like the setting/world better of Portia too. I need more color and foliage in my game.
The thing is, its the same world and it expand on it, whitout much spoilers, you learn about characters from Portia while playing Sandrock and understand better the world, i
@@josephcroeniangamer3727I know it's the same world which is why I don't feel compelled to play this. Everything is so boring and tan colored lol. Wasn't into the lore of portia. The characters weren't as interesting to me as something like stardew valley. Don't get me wrong though, I love my time at portia! 😊 sandrock should've just be a dlc in my opinion. I rarely had any issues with Portia on the switch so always surprised people have so many bugs. Sandrock has an issue or two ( not showing item descriptions and the players picture icon remains the same as the original 'lucy' picture) but i suspect these things will be fixed soon enougj
I would definitely recommend to give this game a try on PC or a Steam deck. I played on the Early Access and I have around 100 hours in the game, still enjoying it a lot (but then Zelda TOTK came and stole all my free time 😅). But still, My Time at Sandrock is sooo pretty on PC (especially some of the Romance prospects... like Fang). I actually don't mind the grinding, but I'm also one of these players that is always checking on Fandom what lies ahead and I'll need to be happily over prepared later 😅 And I actually like combat here a lot and don't mind the frequency of enemies around (but BOTW & TOTK tought me a lot in that regard).
Overall, even though it's not a typical cosy game, it's still a big recommendation from me (on PC) 😅😅
Does sandrock work on steam deck?
@@viv8657It works beautifully for me! The only potential issue is the on screen keyboard but that hasn't been a problem for me at all - the keyboard automatically comes up when I click a text box - but if it was, all you have to do is bring up the keyboard manually.
More reasons to get a Steam Deck!
My time at Portia is a nightmare on switch, I could live with the stuttering, low textures, long loading times but not the sudden crashes when you can't manual save. Was so much fun to grind a whole day just to suddenly crash.
I won't touch this on Switch, I learned my lesson
Everyone always forgets old the tech is inside of a Switch. They really do need to upgrade it.
Only problem i have with MTAP was the constant crashes for switch. Not sure if id want that with a sequel but if its on sale at steam i'll take a look.

I ultimately chose pc after a lengthy research because my laptop can handle it, which would make the PC version for me technically portable, plus it was 20% off right now for Christmas on steam.
I’m waiting until late November to get an xbox series x and then I’ll grab this game. I need to clean my room and save a bit more so it won’t hurt me before the holiday’s. I did preorder this for the switch but canceled it after learning how restricted it was going to be with house building and some of the render distance acting up.
I’ve been waiting for this game! I love MTAP and am currently doing what I’m calling my cannon run :) The grinding isn’t too bad and I like to plan ahead anyway so I enjoy that aspect of the game. But what I really, really like is the whole world and all the people in it! They’re so cute! And the positive post apocalyptic world is interesting. I’m really looking forward to getting this game…even though I just promised myself I wouldn’t buy anything else this year except Baldur’s Gate…Dang it. I’m buying it anyway! On Xbox, not the switch.
I feel like this game has yet to be visually optimized for both switch and steam deck which is so disappointing for a portable gamer like me😭 though the switch was somewhat expected with how portia was

I never played this game when it was on early access , but it sure took a very long time for it to come out.
But im very glad to have it now.
But to me The Switches Version is way better than the PC’s Version of it , but i have seen it on PC but it was really blurry on the PC.

You're right the game is MUCH better on the PC - those Switch visuals were horrible and in just the short time of your review I could feel eye-strain starting to kick in. It was like looking at my PC version after having spread Vasoline all over my monitor! I've never been a hand-held gamer as I don''t see the point of the small screen or poorer performance and seeing this only cemented my personal views further.

I am playing "my time in Portia" right now on switch cos it was on sell, its just too much things to do , but so far am having no issues ... ,i dont know if i should get this game too ...also the only console i have is switch i dont have pc. 😅
Sandrock v1.0.4 on switch (released by Nintendo Nov 4) solves a lot of issues mentioned in this review.
- Item description popup now works (so you know what you are buying or need resources for crafting items).
- Item icon resolution improved.
- NPC mouth movement for dialog is fixed.
Loading times for scene render is often delayed, but does work. This seems to be a by-product of switch hardware age.
PC version would have better performance, but the convenience of playing on Switch is worth it for me.
My time at Sandrock is really really good now on the switch. Ignore the comments on this video. I love it!
Even on PC there are glitches. C Flys through fangs head, the music cuts off in a really awkward jarring way, people t posing. I’m surprise how low the bar is for players of this game to be impressed. It lacks polish
I actually double dipped on portia I originally played it on pc in early access years ago and I actually double dipped when it came to consoles cuz the switch version was really bad not just in bugs and glitches but framerate as well so i bought again when it went on sale playstation and while its still not perfect its a far sight better than the switch version so i think im just gonna with the ps5 version with sandrock

I’ve been playing for the past week! I was giving notes ahead of time on what was going to be in the patch day 1 which most of those things addressed weren’t within my main critiques!
I played My Time at Sandrock on Steam in early access. I have 150+ hours in it. I love it so much that I have bought it for PS5 as well so I can play it in bed 🙈

Nice review Payton! I had too motion sickness from Portia that I can pass this game for sure. Unfortunately i dont't like the style, the fights and the graphics in general. Simply isn't my cup of tea.

Ps5 is definitely 1000 times better 🥰 and it is kinda buggy at the moment but for the most part it’s gorgeous and the beginning definitely felt Grindy at first just like in my time at Portia but I love the characters 🥰

@@KriticalKate If you wanted to play this on handheld. I suggest you to play on a more powerful PC handheld like Steamdeck, Asus ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go. I personally have the ROG Ally and it's quite nice

I played this game in an early access on steam and I enjoyed it a lot even when it wasn't finished :) I would recommend anyone to play it on a decent pc....not sure I would recommend the switch version though as with all my love for switch I am willing to admit that switch is kinda a potato :D and not suitable for big games except for masterpieces specifically made for it such as Zelda :D so if you have both pc and switch maybe consider pc ❤

That's unfortunate that it plays so poorly on the switch. I was watching some content creators stream it and it just wasn't interesting to me. Always enjoy your honest reviews!!

I got it for PS5 and performance is not great which is not cool. This game does not have next gen graphics nor some crazy effects and there are constant frame drops and screen tearings on both quality and performance mode. Performance mode is bad because it makes textures so blurry and looks like ps3 game. They need to work on optimisation asap. Also they switched names of modes. Performance is Quality and Quality is Performance, so don't get fooled when you set to quality and feel frame increase. Its not quality because you will notice worse textures. They are blurry and also view distance is reduced. Some particles are also absent.
as good as the PC version?
I have 478 hours on steam (before the full release), I don't mind the game being a bit grind heavy. And I have to agree, this game is not working well on the switch, pc is the best option.
I feel My Time at Portia on the Switch looked better than My Time at Sandrock
On Switch it has strange filter of dust, at all time. And color are too bleak (even on OLED) in comparison to PC.

I wouldn't play this one on Switch! Much better on PC! Also, anytime someone calls this a farming sim, I find that misleading. Really, it's a crafting sim. Your character isn't a farmer, they're a builder. You can farm, but that's not the game's focus. At least on PC, I find the crafting really enjoyable. It's the right level of challenge!
You really do need more horsepower than the Switch provides to run this game properly. I'm playing on a PS5, and it's much better. My only regret is that my laptop isn't strong enough to run it at recommended settings.
It’s sad that as consumers we are putting up with this level of quality at launch for a lot of games. The companies add patches after the face but it’s unprofessional to sell unfinished products. I’m surprised there are so many people in the comments who forgive this
I tried it in Early Access on PC and couldn't get into it. The story is flat and requires you to grind for builds. I didn't get the cozy vibes. I'm looking forward to Coral Island's 1.0 release.
Same here I tired a year ago couldn't get into it. Tried again today with 1.0 and still couldn't get into. 😅 I'm going to wait for coral island as well.
I refuse to buy anymore of their games on Nintendo Switch after how horrible My Time at Portia ran on it...and they offered very little support in terms of trying to update or fix bugs.
Hey Payton, I just wanted to say I appreciate how sincere and frank your reviews are, while having such a pleasing delivery with your personality. Long overdue, but I finally hit that sub button.
I know people are praising the PC version of the game, but it is definitely important to discuss the unacceptable Switch performance, and I am glad to see you didn't beat around the bush. Switch players deserve better, even if the hardware is arguably limited. Hopefully, the developers take the feedback to heart, and Switch buyers will get a better experience.

The audio and video were never split apart so they’re definitely together! I’d recommend maybe refreshing ❤
I have stopped using my Switch for anything but when I play Animal Crossing. The Switch is just outdated tech. I play everything on my PC.
I've had this game since a week after it released in Early Access. I love it! It's so much fun. The story starts out a little slow but it does pick up and then you get very invested in it. If you have a PC, I definitely recommend this game!
It is a little grindy at times, but I enjoy that. The fighting isn't bad at all on PC and I didn't mind it at all.
I still use my switch for games like metroidvanias, platformers, and jrpgs. Its great for less intense indie games. But for anything that needs some power like fps or openworldrpgs its getting played on pc for sure.
If you played my time at portia none of these are a surprise.its pretty much the same game but in the desert.its a sequel.so id hope ppl have played the first.plus if u play on switch thats kinda the main issue.every switch port tends to "not run well" almost 90% of the time and ppl still sound as if their surprised.dont be.your playing on a glorified tablet.that being said my time at portia also had its fair share of issues and bugs.but overall its a great game for what it is.and im sure this game is just more of the same.
Does it look worse than it’s predecessor on the switch? Maybe it just seems like it but it honestly looks SO BAD! So blurry and muddy
My time at Portia was very tedious and grindy too. Stuff took forever to be made or cook, luckily there was a duplication glitch to speed the game up and made it more playable. Waiting real days to build something was just not fun to me. I think I’m going to skip this game for now, maybe ill get it if it goes on sale in a year or so cause i have a feeling ill get bored of it really quick
Thank you for this honest review! I think I’m going to pass on this for now. Unfortunately I can’t justify spending $40 on something that won’t run well on my switch at all. I also was looking for a more cozy experience and I think the need to grind would definitely stress me out.

The building grind was why I didn't play My Time at Portia after I bought it, and why I'll be skipping this one.

Thanks for the review. Hard pass on Sandrock from me. I bought Portia on the switch during lockdown. Did not like it. Too much grind, and you’re so right about the building being so ridiculously cumbersome, way too many steps.

I've never been more upset about a game purchase they should not have released it on the switch with the handheld in this state i think its the most unplayable game I've ever tried i was so excited for this one! I loved my time at portia on the switch lite I'm not picky at all but ugh i wish i could refund this one
wow, this is one of the worst looking games i have ever seen on the switch, and that's saying something lol. hopefully they are able to better optimize it for switch. they honestly probably should have just delayed the switch released because... wow. even tho i would play this on pc over switch, some people have recommended i play this one but i don't think it's for me. thanks for your review payy!!!
Sad to say but unfortunately the Nintendo Switch is a very weak console to play games.
Is good only for a few exclusive games such Pokemon or Mario etc.
For me i tell you to buy a PS5 and your problems will be solved.
Nintendo must release a new powerful console immediately .
