Got burned by Everdream valley, and caught up in the hype. I am more careful now and definitely waiting for more info on if they are going to update npcs/dialogue/others. The bug catching seems fun which I like, but the fishing doesn't appeal to me. Slightly too complicated for me, I definitely prefer a more animal crossing style of fishing. I hope everyone enjoys it!
Aww maybe in a few months. Way too caught up in Baldur's Gate right now to even consider it. Plus the update for Coral Island has just dropped so even when I'm longing for cozy I feel like there's one already there and ready to go. It's just a bit expensive for me right now...
On the the games discord, the devs discuss that the reason there are limit spots for selling is because they want you to use the raw items to craft recipes which sell for more money. So to make money, craft a complex recipe with all the raw resources you want to sell. For example, sell a cake for 450 from all of your resources instead of 1 turnip for 35. I wish they would tell the community this.
Thanks for sharing this. It’s still an interesting choice though since imo it feels like they’re forcing you to engage in those activities before selling stuff, which usually goes against the freedom of these sandbox farm sim type of games. Sometimes I don’t care about maximizing profit and am fine with selling things straight up. I wish they would leave the option, and those who would want to make more profit can craft recipes as they wish.
As an individual who feels social anxiety over games where you need to manage complex relationships (that might decay over time), your cons about the NPc's actually were a huge pro for me! I can just enjoy making things look pretty and the exploration, without having to wonder when I last spoke to a certain npc.
The shallow npcs is super disappointing, interesting characters to befriend or romance are one of my favourite parts of farm sims, so to learn that the characters in this game are pretty lackluster has definitely impacted my enthusiasm for this game. Hopefully a future update changes that. I feel like I’ll likely be waiting for a sale, but if one of those future dlc updates is an underwater/merfolk village with a cute romancable merperson I’ll have to reconsider lol. All I now is that if I do end up playing I will be living my Winx Club nostalgia fantasy through this game an obnoxious amount 😂
I love it so far. I think its great to get someone elses take on pros and cons. I personally do not really care about dialogue with npc’s. I almost always skip through it all without reading it lol. I didn’t really notice how a boring npc could be an issue for some until you explained it in this video.
Oh then I love the game because I hate a lot of dialoque with all the quests , that is why I dont like story of seasons a wonderfull live at all.. all that taliking 😂
I think I might have to wait to see what the dlc packs are like. I was looking forward to this for the mines and the rpg/story aspect so I'm really put off by the dialogue atm. Thanks for taking the time to do such a comprehensive review, Payton. I always feel like I can trust you to give us the information we need!
You almost convinced me. I was really excited for this game, but ended up deciding to pass because of the 1 by 1 table selling and the shallow NPCs. Watched your review, even though my mind was made up, and actually had to reconsider!

Fantastic review, Payton! I feel the same as you do in terms of the NPCs, but I'm hoping the DLCs and perhaps future hotfixes can potentially fix that. Have definitely been enjoying it! One of the better farming sim games I've played. Thanks for a wonderful video!!
Do we think they will update this game fairly often? I want to spend the money but $60 is an investment to myself. I heard it only has 8 like idk areas?? So will that be updated maybe??
@@macymiller3417 They've already confirmed at least 2 DLCs but we don't have any proposed dates for those yet. There are some days I just tend to my farm and decorate! It's not a "short" game by any means if that's what you are worried about
Devs actually mentioned the selling tables only give 1 item per slot was done very intentionally. They want you to utilise the crafting stations to craft all resources in the most profitable option to sell. So for example 10 raw gem ores = 1 polished gem sells for more than selling the 10 individually.
that shoud be my choice, not theirs. Why wasn't enough the fact I already can make more money crafting? That's just frustrating, not a good game design feature
theres plenty of fairies in the game. as you complete the first mine/dungeon fairies start coming to town and then the second area you go to is a partal to the fae realm which has a whole second town, buncha fae, fae animals, a second mine/dungeon, and there are 3 romanceable fae and 3 romanceable humans. After you complete the dungeon you get a whole new fae farm in the fae area where you can grow fae crops.
Hi Payton, I'm so glad you did this kind of video for fae farm. It's exactly what I've been searching for ! I love this type of review when a youtuber takes it point by point. Thanks ! I still think it's a bit expensive but I'll still buy it when it's on sale =). Have a great day ! Greetings from France =) (yes, I'm french =P, so sorry for my english xD)
The "stakes" as to why the player cares. The first that comes to mind is the mayor tells you directly you couldn't leave if you wanted to. Sounds like a good enough reason to me
Thank you for the honest thorough review!!! I’ve seen a few of ur monthlies but this review was so well done and gave me a really great idea of the every part of the game. I originally wasn’t gonna give it a chance cause it felt like another stardew w a couple twists, but after watching it actually looks really fun and I think I’ll give it a try! :3
There is a whole load more to the game than docussed here. Beyond Chapter 4 there's so much and none of it is mentioned here as Payton had early access to those first 4 chapters so it's even better! 😁😁😁
It seems they have nailed most of the gameplay mechanics, but it seems way too shallow for me to justify spending almost $60 for the Switch version. Immersion is the most important thing to me and I don't see myself getting very immersed in this. I hope they will polish the NPCs and relationship aspect, but seeing as they will be selling NPSs as DLC (yikes!), I have doubts. They will probably just do some bug fixes, release DLCs and then move on.
the farming is a lttle weird in this one. you start off with turnips, beans, and cauliflower. at later farming levels you unlock potatoes, corn, and peppers. each of these have a seaonal variety and you have to put the magic fertilizer on them and each night it has a chance to turn it into a seasonal variety. you can take any harvested crop and turn it into 3 seeds of that type. so what you do is turn your turnips into lets say radishes in spring. then you harvest those, turn the radishes into radish seeds, plant those, then you basically have renewable radishes. you can also give them fertilizer that can increase crop yeild or make them grow faster. i eventually stopped doing radishes cus they grew so quickly and I had so many of them. Save some seeds for next year and then you don't need to repeat the process. I've seen some people complain theres no reason to do this. the reason you do it is seasonal versions sell for more, and when you take them to the prep table they will more of the same resource. so a turnip will make 2x diced roots and a radish will make 3x diced roots. you can then make these into meals which give much more energy than just eating a raw veggie or a roasted one at the campfire, or take these to the artisan table to turn a large amount of them into something you can sell for a lot of money.
Thanks for this Payton. I pre-ordered fae farm and was super excited about it, but I immediately got obsessed with some other games and I haven't really come back to it. I know they've released some expansions and hope that might bring me back. Weighing these pros and cons definitely helps me get a better idea if I really want to spend my time on this compared to others that I love
I've been addicted to this game this last weekend! It's cute without being childish and you're right the map is amazingly simple but full. I really appreciate how mindless (for lack of a better word) it is. It's perfect for unwinding or playing while high. It's simple but still more engaging than Animal Crossing because time moves much faster in this game. I love that I can take my time building my farm and exploring the mine and interacting with locals. I personally love that the market is open constantly and the NPCs are always at my disposal. It is a very independent game, you can keep interactions with the NPCs to a minimum if you want . I really have no complaints about this game so far except for how slow it is to sell things or make money.
i heard one of the best ways to make money is with the rock polisher machine so maybe try that? i don’t have this game but im totally obsessed with it & i really hope i get it for christmas!
After watching your review, I decided to play the game and I have zero regrets. I've been having a blast. After playing for a while (almost an entire in-game year) I have some notes to some of your points. There are, in fact, fae in Fae Farm. Took a while to get there lol but once you unlock the second dungeon they will be there. There are things that happen during the festivals. You have to go into the mayor's building and whoever is running the even will be there. Talk to them and there will be items and recipes that you can only buy that day. There are also festival-specific quests you can do leading up to the day of the festival. There are more than just a few crops. You need to use magical crop swap fertilizer on the basic crops to turn them into other crops. Which you can then make seeds out of. It's a little complicated, but it is what it is. Fishing isn't the only thing that the game is bad at explaining lol, it's kind of a trend. The game doesn't explain festivals to you, and I found its explanation of seals to be pretty confusing as well. I would argue your point about the quests being optional. You can certainly do them at your own pace, but you do not get to experience all the game has to offer by ignoring them. Even some of the side quests are pretty important. Thank you so much for your review. For all your reviews, honestly. My boyfriend and I had a list of possible games to play together, and it was your videos I found when deciding which game to play. Obvs we went for Fae Farm, but after seeing your review of the new Harvest Moon game I want to play that too! So, I really enjoy your content. Subscribing!
Thanks Payy!! I pre-ordered it a while ago. I can't WAIT for tomorrow when I can finally play!! And yes, that $60 price was steep, but it seems like it's gonna be totally worth it!
Great review! So far I've been loving the game. My only problem with it is if I'm not on wifi and I try to start up the game, it'll just stay on the home screen, saying Press A to start? I'm on switch version, made a Phoenix Lab account. It's annoying that it's doing this 🙃
I really loved this fae farm review you put out payton and honestly you really made some very interesting points about this game despite the game being 60 dollars i think it’s going to be an incredible game of the century am i getting it hmm 🤔 as of right now money is the only thing holding me back lol if i don’t get to play it when it comes out i’ll definitely get it on my birthday which is in a October so really excited
I totally agree about the NPCs. I understand I can’t have a completely customized conversation with everyone, but I wish they didn’t all basically cycle between the same 6 phrases.
My biggest Con about the game is how...empty,relationships are. The characters don't feel unique, they don't make me laugh or fall in love. They kind of seem like random no-name Npc to me. True, we can see they are supposed to be unique, but they just are not. And relationships are of the most important things to me in a farming sim. I do hope there will be more romance options, but even then, maybe it won't amount to much, because the system is just lacking. I mean, there is not even an introduction when we first met them. They just talk and act as if you were always there. In a simple term, I think they just have no soul. I probably would not have brought the game if I knew. At least, not at the price it is.
Hey Payton. Did you play it on the steam deck at all? If so what was the battery life like? Im debating between switch or steam version and I don't want to have to stop after a hour due to low battery like Coral Island. 😂
Ah my least favourite thing about any game in general is repetitive limited dialog, i guess it cant be helped. Second thing is if a game shows a character or gimmick i want to see it...like Disney dreamlight valley showing Belle but only now giving her to us? And this is a fairy game... with no faries in!😮 Love your videos especially reviews❤ thimk im gona wait to see what the updates are like before i buy, thanks to your clear vid❤❤❤
I have been a bit disappointed by the NPCs and romance options. I might have preferred if there were no romance at all. I don’t feel like I have any reason to care about these characters.😅 It’s like they were more interested in the gameplay and added in relationship stuff just because it’s what the other games do. It’s really not necessary though and this half-hearted attempt is more disappointing than if they hadn’t bothered at all. I went on a date with Argyle and I find his heavy interest in frogs to be actually very boring. Like it was supposed to be quirky but every quirky character in the history of forever has loved frogs. It’s not even quirky anymore. That said, the gameplay is very fun. I hate that the npc aspect is so lackluster because it really is a fun game. You really get engrossed in the active parts of the game. It’s definitely more action than life sim and they do the action part very well. And so far, nothing feels too grindy which is nice. I think that getting past what it’s not, I’m enjoying what it is. I don’t regret getting it and I’m excited to see where it goes.
Does anyone else get major lag spikes? It's not often, normally when I catch a fish or craft something it'll freeze not sure if it's my end or the game
@@greberc7284 I don't get them on my steamdeck maybe it stopped now. Only other annoying thing is that my inputs register twice so when I go into my storage it opens the journel also for some reason 😪
Hi, first time viewer here. Thanks for the in depth review. I realize how important it is to watch a lot of different perspectives. Also interesting to see that some of your pros are directly my cons haha like tools auto equipping. I know this is an unpopular opinion and idk why but for me, auto equipping breaks the immersion for me, especially when you do have to manually equip fishing rod and net (so why not the others). Same with no penalty for staying up too late. I mean no penalty is great but the fact that you’re just magically back in your bed and the next day starts is super weird to me. Not to mention no crafting bench. I guess it’s a tough balance between immersion and gameplay mechanic. Also from your gameplay shots it looks like it might be difficult to aim the right tile when you want to place down farm plots and it’ll highlight the tile even slightly behind you.. How did that aspect feel with the controls?
I love your vidoes and I have really enjoyed the Fae Farm content. I can't wait to play it today! I've left this feedback before, I just have to say that I think your background music is too loud and it takes away from what you are saying because it's so much in the foreground; I have to really struggle to listen to you.
Honestly I don’t mind the merchants being a bit empty though it would be nice to to see more fleshed put characters though. I know dialogue isn’t that important to many folks but when it comes to building relationships with certain characters especially romanceable characters I feel the dialogue could be better and the characters could be more fleshed out. Over all it’s a fun game thought the price (I’m a switch player) is ridiculous. $60 is a lot ask for, for a game where you don’t get to pick your own name unless you make a phoenix labs account
I have been playing for a few days now, very cute game but the romance options are little, everyone repeats the same thing over and over/no personality basically, and days are short so I feel like I am running out of time when I do simple things. The story is a little too drawn out for me but I like decorating my farm and house. Very much not worth the price that it is though
My only problem qith the game is the price tag. For someone that lives in a third world country it’s really really expensive and I dont see where are all those 60 bucks on the game I like it but it’s price tag is even more than A games from consoles like ps5…
I'll be waiting for a sale and more longer term reviews for repeated play I think. £50 is just too heavy. Shame, because I'm desperate for a new Animal Crossing fix
I could MAYBE get over the shallowness of the NPCs if they had more romance options. If I have to choose an NPC that'll say the same thing over and over again, let me pick the one who I think is the prettiest.
Uhm I’ll still pass as it seems just a mush of Stardew Valley and world of Warcraft and the price point is wayyy too high for a new name unfortunately. Looks very cute and cozy but will wait until it’s half off
i love farming sims but i hate fae farm so much... It seems made from someone who doesn't know anything about what they're doing... Everything is so frustrating and lacking, the game doesn't have purpouse it feels empty and not worth living. I don't have objectives, I can't relate to any character because they're just... not good... I mean... Is this really a game worth all that cost? Sun Haven, Stardew Valley, Roots of Patcha... They all work, they are game you actually want to play. Fay farm makes you play only because you thing "oh god, i spent so much money for this sheet, I need to make it worth"
hello payton this game is cute but the price for me is to much money here its like 50 and the second one is like 80 dollars so i dont think i be gettin it love your videos and streams see u soon take care

This game is on sale on steam so I'm gonna snatch it!
Im so excited its not ok
Only a few more hours! It's like Christmas Eve and I'm 7 years old! 🩵🌻
I LOVE craft heavy games especially to get furniture. I need this.
less than 4 types of chair / table/ etc. not a craft heavy game
Love a cosy farming sim but as a AU $80 game I'll be waiting for a decent sale
Can’t wait! Just preordered!
Mines coming in the post today, so excited ❤
I love Payton’s channel she gives so much dedication to cozy games and really gives great reviews
I hear you a lot
Hey Payton. Did you play it on the steam deck at all? If so what was the battery life like? Im debating between switch or steam version and I don't want to have to stop after a hour due to low battery like Coral Island. 😂
I haven’t played on steamdeck just yet!
Ah my least favourite thing about any game in general is repetitive limited dialog, i guess it cant be helped. Second thing is if a game shows a character or gimmick i want to see it...like Disney dreamlight valley showing Belle but only now giving her to us? And this is a fairy game... with no faries in!😮
Love your videos especially reviews❤ thimk im gona wait to see what the updates are like before i buy, thanks to your clear vid❤❤❤
There are plenty of fairies, including romanceable ones, after chapter 4. I'm about to marry one in the game
So random but could we ever get a makeup tutorial idk if you’ll see this since it’s a old vid 😅 but I love this vid thank you sm!
I wish miles was a dateable character, he is so adorable!
This!! Or Alaric because hes nerdy lol
It kind of reminds me of Portal nights with was a good game
Did you go over multiplayer? I feel like so many reviews are skipping that.
I talk about it in the end! I didn’t have a chance to play multiplayer, unfortunately I didn’t have anyone to play it with!
Dont waste your money now. Aw cute as they wanna make it seem, it gets boring fast. Wait till all the DLC is out. Seriously.
I want to get this game so bad, but I’m conflicted on if I should get it on Switch or PC
hi! i have the feeling that on handheld the game looks a Little bit blurry.. but seems like i'm the only one :( i dont know
I have been a bit disappointed by the NPCs and romance options.
I got some when I first started playing then it didnt happen again
@@greberc7284 I don't get them on my steamdeck maybe it stopped now.
Only other annoying thing is that my inputs register twice so when I go into my storage it opens the journel also for some reason 😪
Ooohhhhh I been waiting for this one >:)
ITS SO GOOD!
The $60 also covers the two planned DLCs. The name thing is super weird though. It just automatically goes with the name of your Switch profile.
Dang you can farm AND it has a story? Sweet ...
Is there going to be a september game release video? :> (no pressure)
There already is! You can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/USBbepwVkuo/v-deo.htmlsi=2pVRpEC5c8E_xSmt
I will wait for an update of romance/nova and/or a sale.
I’ve never watched any of your videos before besides this one. But I’m going to make a big assumption that your favourite animal is a sloth
Hahah that obvious??
I'll be waiting for a sale and more longer term reviews for repeated play I think. £50 is just too heavy. Shame, because I'm desperate for a new Animal Crossing fix
nice video! this game looks super cute, does anyone think it's similar to disney dreamlight valley?
The fact I’m saying people sayinf 60$ will be a good price for this game is a big red flag for me
I could MAYBE get over the shallowness of the NPCs if they had more romance options. If I have to choose an NPC that'll say the same thing over and over again, let me pick the one who I think is the prettiest.
romance options are way too little, I dont even like any of the NPCs because like you said they just say the same thing over and over
@@raredivine Yeah, I only really like them aesthetically, which is a shame cuz I’m a magical world you get the freedom to tell so many stories.
i want to play it but i will be waiting for a price drop.
If this game was cheaper 😅
I love the game except it stresses me out because in my opinion the days are way to short!!!! 😢
Uhm I’ll still pass as it seems just a mush of Stardew Valley and world of Warcraft and the price point is wayyy too high for a new name unfortunately. Looks very cute and cozy but will wait until it’s half off
Congratulations short days.... Really sucks
i love farming sims but i hate fae farm so much...
You almost had me. When you said "villagers" I said no way. Not another "animal crossing" nightmare.
What? There's a village and people live in it. That doesn't make it anything like Animal Crossing...
@@BFDreaming There's other words that could of been used
@@elindigeno1215I hope you don’t cave and bought it. I wish I had waited.
hello payton this game is cute but the price for me is to much money here its like 50 and the second one is like 80 dollars so i dont think i be gettin it love your videos and streams see u soon take care
I know the feeling! I see it cheaper on steam deck, but,I don’t have that yet either lol think I’ll wait till I buy one🎉
@@Switchgal ya i dont have a steam deck either lol if i see it cheaper i be in the fence about lol
@@KerrBearBearbut it's just the normal edition on steam. Switch Version for 60 bucks there are coming dlc included. But this is expensive too for a cozy game tbh
@@mirivantastisch2956 hello here on steam where i live is 50 dollars and the other version is 80 dollars ya its to much money for this kind of game i agree
Nice to meet you, Payton….d-do you like sloths?
I do! How did you know?? 👀🦥
