Thank you Barbara! it is coming out beautifully, cant wait to have some body of work to take a pic and tag you on ravelry :) it is a joy to knit, not a TV piece of knit, ive got to be concentrated, its so worth the work! beautiful engineering and so lovely!!
Hello! I love the fact that you’re a designer of knitwear patterns. Looking for how-to for a doll shawl. Please do many more mini items as a demo. Many of us only knit for our dolls.
These mini-shawls are to teach the shaping of each of the different shawls. I am sure there will be more in the future as I think of them. You might want to check out this: ua-cam.com/video/NRykS9coOYw/v-deo.html
Hi Barbara! I started an easy heart shawl. I like it a lot. Both sides are very pretty, as if there's no wrong side. Plus your tutorial makes it so easy to follow. The actual knitting is easy to read even if you forget which row you're on. Thank you so much!
I have subscribed and then I went back to see your playlist and poof my dream shawl was there. You got me hooked on crescent but I thought I'd have to figure out how to get the triangle and the crescent and poof you have already done it the best of both. THANK YOU! I like your teaching and personality as well. I hope it rains again tomorrow so I can enjoy more.
I know I'm late to the party, but thank you so much for your free pattern videos! One thing I love about them is that they focus on the structure that produces the overall shape - the number of increases in the center, the number of increases on the sides, and from there, the knitter can improvise. I'd like to intersperse the woven stitch with lace panels, maybe separated by a row of garter, and feel totally confident in doing so. I also think it would be fun to knit a cardigan and either a heart or circular shawl, and stitch the shawl onto the cardigan to make a shawl collar. Thanks for igniting my imagination.
This is wonderful to hear because it is precisely why I made these videos. To me knitting is all about letting my creativity explore and I wanted to reach others who are in the same boat.
Barbara I really enjoy your tutorial. simple and easy to understand. I'm looking for a very Lacey knit shawlettes patterns perhaps you have designed a few. Delicate very open lace ha I can incorporate some fine beads.Thanks.
That was fun👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽♥️🌹❣️ Not quite sure of how your video is in my feed; but yep, had to subscribe adore the humor! I haven’t knitted in almost ah hem years, so I’m like a newbie and this was a fun way to begin again Thank You 🌹
Love this video and your sense of humor. Had to subscribe! Thank you. I am excited to start my heart shaped shawl. I have variegated yarn languishing in my stash that is going to be so happy.
Hey Barbra that’s a great pattern however I do feel the cold on my arms & am looking forward to seeing more of the rectangle or the swoop ( no pointy bottom ) crescent maybe 🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖 as always love seeing your tutorials 😊
I'm so glad I gave you a chuckle! On a completely different subject, did you contact me about doing secret shopper? I seem to think you did but I can't seem to figure out on what platform you sent me a message. If not - I might be losing it LOL!
Yes I did but I thought maybe I could hit the Homespun Yarn Party at the end of March or Maryland Sheep and Wool at the beginning of May so I could send you something specific to Maryland.
I love your easy patterns for shawl shaping very much! Unrelated but I gotta know, what is the needle brand you are using in this video? Look aluminum but its so gorgeous
@@WatchBarbaraKnit these look so different than the zing set I have seen the points are so nice and tapered as compared to the other which are blunt and bulbous. And yes the color is super pleasing and attractive, purple/violet/amethyst colors are one of my favs. Very pretty 😍
I thought your adorbable squitch-y face when you showed the bitty shawl was awesome. THEN, you pulled out Riker to model. Once I am done laughing, I will finish the video. Thank you!
Hey Barbra do you have a pattern for a shawl that is not pointy at the bottom but rather like a half circle or oval as I would rather have more of the work that covers my arms & shoulders 🙏🙏🙏please 💖💖
I have many crescent shaped shawls and the asymmetrically curved shawls have the point offset. You'll need to check out my patterns here: www.ravelry.com/designers/barbara-benson
You are one of the cutest ladies ever! I would really enjoy meeting you--you seem so nice to talk with! I have a goal-and that is to make a shawl. My question is: What size circular needles do I use to make a shawl since I have some coming? Could you please let me know? Thanks for sharing Love! And one other thing--what kind of circular needles are those? That's a pretty color!
Do you mean size with regards to the cable length or size with regards to diameter of the needle? If cable length, you will need something in the 36 - 42 inch long range. As far as diameter, it will totally depend on what size yarn you use.
I'm a tad confused. It seems that the row 4 instructions (at the bottom of the video) for both the set-up and the body don't match what you are actually knitting. Also I noticed some KYOK instructions that weren't done as you were knitting. Probably just me, no? Anyway, it's a beautiful shawl and as far as Commander Riker is concerned: it's him!
Andie Straus Hi! I am totally willing to entertain the idea I made a mistake so I went back and double checked. I think the thing that is confusing you is that there are multiple ways to actually word the same instructions. The text below the video are the instructions distilled down to the most abbreviated way of writing the instructions. They do accurately describe what I am knitting. As far as kYOK, those only occur in the center stitch on the wrong side. I'm not certain where else you think you saw them!
Humblest apologies, Barbara! I really don't know where my brain was hiding. Whist watching as you were knitting, I lost track of the KYOK being the middle stitch, which is easy enough to find. Mayhaps it's because I'm working on your "Easy Crescent-Shaped Shawl", I was thinking that I needed to KYOK into a big hole. So, please forgive. In my own defense, however, sometimes I can't help it....I'm old. BTW, thanks for the occasional belly laugh; you have quite a way with language and a marvelous sense of humor. Be well. Ps. I got hard copies of this shawl, as well as the crescent shawl, and the directions are great, especially the sidebar where I can add my "Scribbles" ;-)
No apologies necessary! I can see where it could be confusing. The crescent shaped shawl does make it easy to see where kYOk goes with that big hole LOL. I'm glad that my videos can bring a chuckle into your life - sometimes there isn't enough of that. I'm glad you like my sidebar. When I was developing my pattern template I looked at all of the patterns I had scribbled all over and decided I needed a spot.
Directions on row 3 of body differ from what you are demonstrating in the video. "k1 rep to one st before center st, k1, YO twice, k2," but in the video you say to knit 2, yo abd then rep k1slwyif until last 3 sts. I'm very confused. And moving on . . .
This is a 6 year old video and I take feedback seriously. I just went back and reviewed the video and compared the demonstration to the caption and the written instructions in the description notes. Row 3: k2, YO, k1, (s1-wyif, k1), rep to one st before center st, (k1, YO) twice, k2, (s1-wyif, k1) rep to two sts before end of row, YO, k1, s1-wyif and that is what is demonstrated in the video. Now, because of the length of the written instructions it is split up into two sections in the captions, which correspond with the video demonstration. The first half of the caption reads: Row 3: k2, YO, k1, (s1-wyif, k1) rep to one st before center st, (k1, YO) twice ... and then the second half of the caption appears at roughly 16:08 and reads: Row 3 (cont): k2, (s1-wyif, k1) rep to two sts before end of row, YO, k1, s1-wyif My only guess at your misunderstanding of the instructions is that you did not catch that the captions for Row 3 are split into 2 sections. NOTE: I had to replace the asterisks in the instructions with parenthesis because UA-cam autoformats asterisks into bold.
r nilson The pattern is free here as a video tutorial and if you look in the description notes it written out line by line there. You are more than welcome to copy/paste it for your own use. These are Knitters Pride Zings. I specifically bought them because they have colored shafts that look good on video LOL.

Very Nice
Thank you!
Can this be made with sock yarn?
Yes it can. In fact the tiny sample I did was in sock yarn.
Wonder if you can use a different colour yarn on the heart shape and make it more prominent:)
I'm not sure what you mean, but you could definitely use pink!
Not sure what you mean. The whole shawl IS the heart-shape! There is no separate area that is a heart.
Thank I'll have to watch it
😊So cute
Thank you 👏
I'm so glad you like it!
Should every row be an uneven number?
I am uncertain what you are asking. Could you be more specific?
