Not only is every step explained, but WHY each stitch is where it is, AND I love the "it'll look weird in the beginning but that's normal" warning. Every time I follow a tutorial and it starts looking weird I feel discouraged bc I feel like I'm doing it wrong. The precaution really means a lot!🩷

Thanks! The hook in this tutorial is a ChiaoGoo I found in my local crafts store. I have another in 5 mm. I don't like that the cable is so short and it swings, so I have to stick it into my waistband to keep it still, but otherwise the hook is very nice, shape-wise. You can probably find them in your local store, but definitely online. They are a bit costly. I also use the basic hooks from the sets on Amazon. I want to make a video to show how to improve those with a file and a bit of sandpaper, as they are really basic.
You have stated that your pattern is 46 rows, can you please advise me as to how many stitches that would be also, so I know which length of Tunisian hook I will need to complete the same.
You can make more rows than that, but at 46 you have 277 stitches according to the pattern. You can comfortably use an 100-120 cm or 40-47" cable on your hook, since you can squish a lot of stitches on the cable.
You can, but that would be a different pattern and you might get a diamond instead of a triangle. I haven't tested it, so I can't tell for sure. Just make sure you Ch2 at the end of the row instead of Ch1.
On row 4, I keep getting 24. Watched your video but you didn’t count your stitches. Is it 24 or 25? I think I am making my stitches too tight. Still haven’t figured out how to hold the yarn in my left hand. Keeps getting caught in between my pinkie and ring finger. How do you hold yours?
There should be 25 loops. The blog post has the stitch counts for the first few rows and then they keep increasing by 6. yarnandy.com/phyllite-free-tunisian-crochet-shawl-pattern/ As for how I hold the yarn, it's around my pinky, on the palm side, then around the pointer finger from the back. I control tension with the pointer and by opening or closing the pinky.

I watched this video many many times. you changed 6 in the beginning and picked up 7 stitches and then did your return pass. it wasn't until I watched and counted that you picked up 7 stitches because I kept getting 12 stitches on row two and you imply there are 13 stitches if you count them there are 13 but you must pick up 7 stitches not 6.
The first loop is the first stitch and it's always on the hook at the beginning of the row. For row 1, I picked up 6 loops in the back bumps, for 7 in total at the end of the forward pass. On the second row, I picked up 12 loops, for a total of 13 loops on the hook. This is all clearly shown in the video. For shawls that stay on, I find that crescent shapes are the best, as they hang on to you. Anything that's not a perfectly flat triangle will work.

Can I just do 1 tfs at the beginning and end rows. Instead of 2 to keep shawl from getting to long. I want it to be more symmetric triangle

My sample has 46 rows, but you should stop when your shawl is big enough. The size will depend on your yarn, hook, tension.

She workes into the first chain instead of skipping it, that's where the 7th loop comes from(6 loops from the chains and 1working loop)
