I bought it when Donda 1 was released in August. I didn’t see it as a stunt and I didn’t buy just to listen to Donda 2, I’m very interested in his creative process. He started developing a prototype during the Jesus Is King era and I’ve been interested in how technology can work like that without buying expensive music equipment. As a person who loves to listen to EVERY part of a song, I found this device to be such a such a huge step forward in how we can listen to music.
Lmao bro if your acc into music and or a producer you would know there’s so many other apps such as “Moises” that does that for free 😂😂 but hey your money dude and his “creative” product lmao
As a saxophone player I found this extremely fascinating enough to buy it for myself. I’m using it to download my own favorite tunes to mix and loop so I can solo over it. Gonna be lots of fun
Wouldn't say it's worth it for Donda 2. It is worth it to be able to break mixed music down into music stems so easily, though; that's not a simple process even with today's software. Donda was looked at as the main selling point for most people, feel like they missed the point of the stem player entirely. It's certainly not intended to be a media player primarily.
Fantastic description. I’m a hardcore Ye fan, but I understand that there are so many others who are WAY more into him. I love this idea though, reminds me of the video iPods without the video. But a fantastic leap in a new direction.
I bought mine when donda 2 came out, I originally wasn't gonna buy one when it first came out in august but now that I have it in hand I'm happy i bought it, especially if all of kanyes music for the next few years or so is only going to be released on the stem player
Really great idea, but it needs to be polished before i consider buying one. I would only want the highest quality audio files which would take up a lot more space, so it needs more memory. I’m a drummer, I would primarily use it to isolate/cut drum tracks, mixing would just be a gag with friends. Hopefully theres a second edition w acceptable memory.
Bro honestly hearing you say is a media stunt is kinda disappointing, you clearly don't understand how massive this could be not for the future of music, but for the future of artists, this is ye breaking a boundary once again on how artist can give the music to the listener without streaming platforms milking their work, c'mon brah
Now, I don’t have one… but, I feel if I [*or any other sneakerhead] can easily drop that much, or more on a pair of shoes every week, $200 doesn’t seem all that unreasonable… I’ll wait for a black version, maybe
i’m definitely buying one of these - playing with stems of a song sounds like a fun thing to do to kill time. i mean, 200 quid for only an 8gb device seems like absolute shit, but i absolutely adore the features and the fact you can even add effects to a song. not only that, but you can do it with any song thanks to mp3 and yt links. oh, and new music is always being released, so even if you do get bored of the device, you can come back to it in a few weeks to mix with some new songs or discoveries. though, if you’re buying this just to listen to donda 2, i would not recommend paying that much for an album that’s unfinished anyway.
Thank you for this honest review 🙏 it’s a great idea but 200 for a small amount of storage isn’t worth it for me. I hope he’ll eventually release Donda 2 on vinyl or cd
Best thing I’ve ever bought. Bit stuck though because my HP envy computer is saying failed to connect to stem player even though it says a stem player detected
So what I'm getting is the stem player cannot let you play songs from spotify or apple music? That's a bummer, and also I'm guessing you cannot do Bluetooth as well?
Lol i dont even think u mentioned that u can download other songs on to it and ai breaks it into a stem ,doesnt sound as great quality wise to the pre loaded songs but still a pretty wild idea i think
Yeah but that’s not how it works. MP3s/other audio files aren’t sitting there as stems waiting to be separated by some future device. Songs that weren’t made for this (ie created with 4 separate “stems” [though even stems is pushing it]) are probably just passed through a band filter. Something you could do with any free daw with better results.
@@LexanderMiller ok, well I've never used one but my point is that there is tech out there that can separate any track into stems and its not done with a bandpass filter!
For every one person that buys the stem player, Kanye probably could have gotten 100 people to buy a $5 stem player app. He should’ve just released the music on his own app tbh. I feel like this device was really just a media stunt and Donda 2 will be on Apple Music and Spotify in less than 2 months
Why would ye release it on apple and Spotify they don’t give anyone on their creative control we don’t need to be controlled by apple and spotifys narrative we don’t need to be compared to others on the billboard top 100
I think steam is a play on words. it seems that he focused a lot on he tactile feel of the device so that people could stem on it, very interesting concept doubt it's worth 200 though but I couldn't know u til I touched one lol. also maybe be said that in the video so don't come for me in the comments lol. I skipped around a lot.
Consistently the cheapest packaging possible . This device is not for listening to the track entirely it’s for sampling and remixing tracks stored , like a cross over with mix features , some other UA-cam vids show how these are used - it’s an electronic fidget spinner essentially
$200 for this tiny little speaker? A JBL Charge 5 is cheaper and is guaranteed to sound better and do a better job of filling the room with sound, why would I spend this much on a speaker just to fuck with the sound? Also, it's not even a bluetooth speaker that I can play my entire playlist on, so I really see no point in purchasing it.
Just need to say, this won’t work correctly with any song other than songs made specifically for this device. There’s no magic that’s able to split an mp3 accurately into 4 sections
@@charlesjones8442 so I just looked up how it works and I’m basically right. No one mentions you have to upload the song to their server, which cuts out the vocals, but then splits everything else. You didn’t just “put your song on it” you had to plug it in, upload a song to their website, have it process the data, and then it gives you 4 “tracks” to mess with. Like I said, you can’t just put an mp3 on it. But go off I guess?

Wondering how you think it holds up 1 year, would you consider it still worth it?
This review doesn’t do it justice. You can put any song on here and basically create your own samples and remix beats on the go.
Do you know around how many songs can be uploaded on the stem player please ?

There’s software that can do this for free. It is cool for non producers/audiophiles who want something cool to play with though
