    You are so right about app design. I have a smart phone from ~ 2013 that I opened recently. Snapchat was chat and friends list, thats it. No news, no stories, no scroll. Iphone apps especially are now 99% bloat with 2% functionality.

    • @reysu

      @@reysu Anki hahaha. I think LingQ does a good job not bloating its app with anything that isnt language learning material. You open it up and theres your library, vocab trainer, and settings, thats all.

So many help guides just suggest something extreme like stopping using the phone completely while this I believe is much more achievable

    I have used RSS feeds for personal media consumption recently, and its pretty analogous to the benefits listed here, except its mainly for PC. (rss feeds are an aggregator for all of ones internet feeds for things like youtube, twitter, news, blogs)
    What I've noticed is that when scrolling isn't the "fun" part of your screen time, its easier to assess whether the content or tool is valuable or not. Especially if you use social media without their original GUI or any GUI at all, it completely changes the experience of it.

      Dumbify is by far the best out of the options. The onboarding experience, UX, and price point is top notch.

      dumbify is one time payment and works well, easy to set up, would suggest that one.

    HEYO! :) Question! How did you disable shorts on UA-cam?? I have the extension enabled, and have most settings enabled, but cant figure out how to get rid of shorts and how to get rid of thumbnails! (IOS w/ UnTrap and SocialFocus) Thanks for the updated video, your initial one helped me a ton, and I’m trying this improved version. Cheers!

    • @ezrarobin_
      @ezrarobin_ 26 днів тому +1

      Figured it out! If anyone is wondering, when in the extension menu for UnTrap (while in safari), there is a drop down menu (default set to home page), from here you can access all the different pages in UA-cam, and set your settings appropriately! For shorts there is a section dedicated to it, and you can also block them from showing up in your subscriptions page!!
      Truthfully, I’d go subpage by subpage and turn off all the features you don’t want!!

      Yea I would suggest planning out when you're going to make posts and having it unblock during that time. Unless you're posting dozens of stories a day, then I'm not sure this works better than having a second work phone

    In your experience, how easy is it to get back to a regular phone for a short period and set up the dumbphone again? For instance there are tons of apps that I only use when I travel (an app I use for my itinerary, app to connect to my camera, photo edititing app, airline app , etc.). These are not apps I use everyday, but I don't want to have to delete and reinstall them every time.
    Thank you so much for your video, very informative!

    • @reysu
      @reysu  16 днів тому

      imo it's a bit tedious to go back to a regular phone for a short period and then there's some friction to set it all up again. I would recommend just having those apps on your phone so you don't have to change anything when you have a trip

    • @reysu
      @reysu  22 дні тому +2

      you can't alter the feed within the apps themselves on iOS. The best way I've found is to use Safari and alter the feed there. On Android you can sideload some apps like distraction free instagram or newpipe

    I might want to make the home screen layout a bit more aesthetically pleasing instead of just a list of off-centre text, but otherwise this is very compelling to me - how customisable is the home screen layout? I probably still want text only but maybe change the font to something I prefer, maybe centre the text etc...

    • @reysu
