The unfortunate reality is that it appears not many of us will endure to witness the next iteration of this endeavor :(

After watching the video I understand the brown handled knife is completely original from 1949! (I thought it was a modern replica with brown scales…) Understandably, it also shows it has been *used* . So the 1891 reissue is *only in black*?

At the beginning it was black and then the scales changed to brown.

I forgot to mention the most important point: very good overview video! :)

I don't think your '49 knife was actually issued to the army, I think it was made for private soldier use from the beginning.
I say this because as far as I know, all the military issued ones had an Elsener tang stamp (even the Alox ones until '73). I believe they didn't use the Victorinox tang stamp for the army. (But I heard that many soldiers also purchased a second "private" / "civilian" knife and they always kept one of them clean for inspections.)

Yes, you are probably right, didn't think of the tang stamp.

i have a '39 one without a p, waffenkontrolle stamp and victorinox stamp with crossbow, it was a military version.

      @@peddypeoples941 How do you know?
I was pretty sure that the issued ones had Elsener stamps.

The most obvious difference between the model 1901 vs 1908 was the the 1908 has a clip point blade. The ones before and afterhad a spear point blade.

Good review, I have collected knives, mainly SAKs, for forty plus years on and off. The soldier models were always a good one as the dates made them interesting, trying to get them all!
I was always a fan of the 1961 soldier/soldat models and did have a few at one time ,although I never managed to get a red alox model! The prices on these are and have been too high for the knives! They are now ridiculous and not worth anywhere near what they fetch? The problem is the Soldier basically had to return the knife when leaving the army and from what I've read over the years most never even used the issued knife in service anyway? An ex swiss stores man told me once that nearly all the returned alox models were recycled and not sold off as surplus. Hence, I suspect the prices asked for ex military survivors?? Most of the survivors you see for sale would therefore be store purchases? Unless you get the earlier ones with the weapon control stamps!

    I don’t like serrated blades.
