awesome review. we need more of these
As someone who owns the fire stick 4k, if you can swing the extra $10 over the fire stick, go for the 4k version. The 4k stick has more Ram, and that does count when you are using large movie files, and playing games. the 4k version works on standard 1080P and 720p TVs... It will even auto scale down the resolution.
Cool thanks for the info. Unfortunately the 4K version isn't officially available in Australia and doesn't work properly
I have 2 4k firesticks and 1 lite I used on my 1080 tv.
im about to buy one here in Brazil (from amazon BR, national stuff, not have to import, finally!) and your review helped me a lot in the decision. thanks, lon!
Salve man, pegou qual e pagou qnt?
Keep up the great work
Great review thank you Lon. I have a 4k stick and the original one but find the Mi Box S plays everything for me better.
Thanks for the video. Can you please confirm whether the voice command works to view ring camera feeds?
I just got the lite version, and it doesn't really matter that the remote has less buttons, because my old Sony Bravia detected it via HDMI and it's remote control now controls the Fire Stick too.
How bro
Can you control volume by fire stick remote
Nope.
@@delscoville bro can we cast jio tv pls reply and clarify that
@@delscoville mean mobile cast to fire stick and see jio tv on that stick and
@@Silenttagmotion It looks like you can, but I haven't tried it. Just need to get the right app for it.
Hi Lon the firestick 2020 is awesome everyone should get this one right Lon your awesome Lon and keep up the good work ☺and stay safe Lon😃😃😃😃
hi lon i really love what you do but can you please review the lenovo AIO 3 and tell us how to switch the HDMI on it❤
I have had my firestick lite for about 3 days and it was easy to setup and use it really wasn't to diffrent from the other firestick plus it came already setup with my account I just had to install a few apps but one app I want installed is my iptv smarter any idea on how to get that app on the fire lite
Is there any way to update the Fire OS on the 4K stick from 6 to 7 or are we at the mercy of amazon?
which game controller can i use with the new 2020 fire tv stick? thank you!
Great vid. You should do amke reviews on smart tv's. Samsung vs LG etc
I have done a few ! lon.tv/tvs - I don't get many in for review due to the size and cost.
I think the new Google chromecast just killed everything in this market. I'm using it over my apple 4k tv. Works as a steam link, can side load apps, ect.
Yeah everything but Roku with its market share. Having said that even having 7 Roku devices, I'll be getting a Google Chromecast for my main TV.
@@teknerd I canceled Netflix last year for different reasons, and this year with the cuties BS it solidified my decision even more so for me, so even with the free 6 months I won't be using Netflix again EVER!!!
@@teknerd Do you mean "if you are NOT already a Netflix subscriber"? Or do I get the device for only $13 if I already have a Netflix subscription?
Can you side load tennis channel?
I got fire stick lite for 4$ for the price it better option for me than Chromecast .
Great Review! I think we even went to school together, In fact I just checked and we did! (Westbrook). Anyway thanks for the video bud! Glad to see you are doing well.
Great review video! Man, I should have gone into law-I could get rich working for one of these tech companies that’s suing all the time!
Where do I get extra USB for external Storage for my fire stick lite and can you and I love ur videos man you rock.
any idea when the new Fire TV OS is out. I thought this was updated when the new sticks came out
I noticed that the lite has option for 12 bit display [4KFIRESTICK has option for just 10 bit] so is there better picture quality on a tv with 1080 when changing display from 8 bit to 12 bit. I'm using the lite on a 6 year old non smart 39 " vizio tv in bedroom. I use the 4k firestick on my m557 series 2019 smart TV. Thanks for your review.
Great video
On which apps it can cast videos like chromecast does , does it support all the apps which are supported by chromecast
Wish you compared the 2020 4k vs the previous version.
It hasn’t been updated like the other sticks for this year
@@LonSeidman guess i misunderstood thanks
Would you recommend getting fire stick 4K over Xiaomi mi box s considering the box s has more ram and 2hz proccesor?
When using an OTG cable with this 2020 version, I noticed it only allows up to 128gb flash drives plugged into it. If you go higher than that, like a 256gb drive for example, the Fire stick will lock up and go into an endless restart loop until you unplug the flash drive from the OTG cable. I tried four different adapters and three different cables too, so it's not a power issue. This new 2020 version also has worse compatibility with many apps you used to be able to sideload from the Downloader app for example.
I ended up returning this 2020 one and just kept using my 2019 version which has none of these issues, and was frankly dismayed that I didn't even really notice any kind of speed increase while using the 2020 one even though Amazon claims it's "faster".
I own three Fire sticks and two Fire tablets and I've never once had any problems or was disappointed in any of them, so I was pretty wtf with my experience with this 2020 Fire stick.
So I would be highly interested in a follow up video to this one where you test things out. I couldn't get a working version of MX Player Pro running on this either. They all had either no input on screen or wouldn't scan the flash drive.
My experience with external storage is most of my apps still require internal storage to run. So I find that external storage only saves little storage. What has been your experience
Hi, great review. I have a Rii wireless mini keyboard with volume control ,which I use on my android box.Would this control the volume on firestick lite...Regards Ray.
Mine doesn't
@@dennyhiett6271 Thanks Denny. I decided to go for a 4k stick in Prime day deal...And guess what it don't control Volume either..would of been nice but wasn't a deal breaker😂👍
@@raypeet5777 I agree just use tv remote
@@dennyhiett6271 Yeah it's only volume rest is ok👍
Can you side load the Google Play store like on the fire tablets?
No
Well seeing as the firestick gen 2 and lite have exact same specs it's no suprise they just repackaged the gen 2 firestick to make it sound new and I've used the gen 2 for iptv and believe me it's no where near enough power iptv buffers alot and it gets warm so your better off with gen 2 cube more horsepower iptv runs alot smoother due to the octa core cpu I'll never understand why the sticks don't come with air vents to at least allow air to cool the internals plus 8 gigs isn't enough amazon especially after all the updates they need to give sticks and cube the same amount of storage and a smart manager to keep the stick running smoothly why doesn't that get included it needs one very badly
Gen 2 and Lite have a different SoC
Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite powered by mediatek makes for a good purchase in the affordable range in terms of HDMI streaming content.
I have my fire stick plugged into my avr should I plug it in the tv instead ? Or it doesn't matter I have the 4k type stick
I have mine plugged into my receiver to get proper 5.1 audio processing. My TV doesn't pass some 5.1 formats accurately to my receiver with the stick plugged into the TV. If you have a 4k TV just make sure your receiver can pass 4k signal and has HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 or better.
Hi - Love your work. I noticed an issue with the new Firestick lite. I just recently added new apps. And the icons for some of the apps are not there. The app is installed, and I can use it just fine. But the icons are not there. I have to click on each app to see what they are. Any way to fix this?
Did you side load the app?
@@LonSeidman yes. I forced closed all my apps and restarted the firestick.
So aftvnews recommends: “go to your list of apps by holding the Home button on your remote and selecting the Apps option.”
@@LonSeidman Thanks. That worked.
So what is the difference between these and a smart TV
Atmos doesn't work with lite version of firestick
I sideload hbo max on mines
Nice device - pity about stability issues.
Hopefully this supports Amazon Luna when it comes out, because Amazon Luna frankly looks like a promising Game Streaming Service. Might be able to achieve success where Stadia didn't.
Stadia is built into the new Google Chromecast, and only cost $50, plus Google will be turning the service on for it in early 2021, so that should help get some more eyeballs on Stadia, but personally I don't see game streaming for a lot of people being a thing period for a long time seeing as many parts of the US still can't get a high speed landline connection to their home, and Mobile has too much latency same with satellite for anything beyond casual gaming, and back on mobile many places of the US still can't even get a solid stable 3G connection let alone 4G LTE, or 5G if their device supports it, and unless you have a mobile data plan that's unlimited the cost can add up fast for streaming.
Is this different from the 2019 4k Firestick?
These are updates to the regular Firestick, the 4K stick hasn't been updated, yet.
I note Improved WiFi (less buffering), as a non-wired stick. Anyone else note this ?
I just bought a second fire stick WORTH IT
I got the 4k and now it is saying to many apps need to get rid of some ?? How do I do that ? And it freezes
Carlos cruz settings, manage installed apps
Chromecast with Google TV has a better UI
Hello, I have the Fire Stick Lite and it doesn't show the picture of the third party apps? Can you help? Thank you.
Lon,
Just found your channel and enjoyed this video....I am very much an electronics idiot (I build golf courses, so I understand grass and soil). I have an older Panasonic tv that cannot download apps. I have been using a blu ray player (which is now dead) to watch Netflix or Amazon. I have ATT UVerse which I like and is good for another year. But, now have no access to the apps. Can I set up this stick just to give me access to the apps and have it allow me to use my existing amp powered surround system? I have been searching for info on this and have not been able to find any real accurate instructions on how to set up to use WITH fiber cable. I's gladly pay for good video or instructions on what can and cannot be done with the firestick AND cable.
Check "Tech with Brett" video on firestick.
@@manny7886 Thanks
Please review Google TV
GTV Review: Don't get too attached, in a year or two, Google will kill it. In its place we'll have Nest TV.
Doesn’t let me download
If you are going to add unknown sources like 99.9 % of people do you will have to give permission for each app.
If I buy the 4K stick for an older plasma tv, will the picture be nicer or no?
The 4K stick is now the same price as the standard. No brainer.
Google Chrome Cast Android TV is coming.
It's Google TV, not Android TV.
@@CommodoreFan64 Not just a Google Chromecast
@@CommodoreFan64 You can put apps on it from the play store and side load.
This is a nice step up. But Roku is still king when it comes to these streaming boxes.
Agreed 100%, but at $50 I'm going to be adding the new Google Chromecast with Google TV to my main TV alongside my ROKU to see what it offers, and it supports 4K along with Stadia in early 2021, so Google really is making a bold move with it. I'm not saying it will take over from Roku, but I think it will put a nice dent in their market share if Google does the ads right to let normies know it exist.
Roku lacks certain apps that I find essential on something like this. Twitch being one of them.
@UCZ_AbI_szjtL6ltjEZmUI-Q My GF is a streamer, and it's pretty integrated into our lives. There are still a lot of people I love watching.
@@Droogie128 That's solely because they are owned by Amazon who won't let them on the ROKU platform, but personally I find Twitch to be a hot pile of puke, and I'm glad it's not on ROKU.
@@CommodoreFan64 why glad? You could simply not use it.
It's essential to me, making Roku something I won't look at because of it. My TV has Roku built in, and I never use it.
it really sucks at playing decent video, so I'd get any $100 (or so) Chinese android TV box...or even shield...was really disappointed in stick...very slow and buggy sometimes, some apps are not supported even with hacks :\
Good luck getting OS updates on one of those chinese boxes, just get a ROKU, or Google Chromecast for $50, or less. also building an HTPC/Gaming PC running a good Linux distro really is not that expensive these days, and they can take over where ROKU, and Google Chromecast stop.
@@CommodoreFan64 erm...it's very easy when you set the firmware you want/need for it. then just set the right launcher you prefer and leave it as is! it is perfect without updates. Amazon keeps updating my stick - no changes what so ever :\ has been and still lags sometimes even with 1080p videos streaming sometimes...very frustrating :(
No it doesn't,wtf
Dumb as hell product. 4k stick has routinely been $25. Amazon disappoints as usual. Every annual product is a shitty incremental upgrade.
Don't buy a firestick. It's so locked into amazon's ecosystem, it's completely limiting what an android box can do. Get a cheap android box that can do amazon, netflix, etc etc all of it without the buggy amazon interface and their constant ad loading. If you don't watch everything through amazon becomes completely worthless and even if you do browsing through their content is a pain because of the terrible side scrolling UI design. I have 1 that I bought that is now a poorly functioning paperweight.
to keep things stupid simple for my family I went with Roku boxes long ago, and only upgraded when the old ones stopped being supported. having said that I'm considering adding one of the Google Chromecast dongles to my setup on my main TV for $50 that supports 4K. the problem I had going with a generic Android box is they don't always get OS, and other updates the way ROKU, and official Google Chromecast do. also if there is a service neither of the 2 have, then I have a Linux gaming PC on my main TV as well that can handle them with ease.
Nope
