the open air gig that Big Country did in Perth was the first gig that my kids ever went to. i can't say often enough that they were in the presence of brilliance. We will always miss you Stuart.
I was pretty oblivious to the depths of his talent, and Big Country, until last year when I had stumbled across some of their less successful music... I had heard The Crossing, for the first time, and it made me dig deeper to hear much more of their musical gems. But what a bittersweet experience hearing the wonderful music he wrote/performed, and understanding how many years I had never fully appreciated it all.
Every time I see a BC vid or pic it makes me terribly sad. A year & a half later this talented, handsome guy is gone, dead by his own hand at 43. I remember when I heard the news story & over 10 years later, I still can't believe it. Seeing him sing with his daughter, joke with Tony, play guitar it seems unreal; what demons couldn't he shake, what sadness that he didn't want to see another morning when so many others could see what he had left to give? Thanks for sharing these glimpses of BC.
So true, Hanya. Why did he take his own, talented life? So far I know, no one knows. Guess he kept it all by himself, why? Nevertheless, rest in peace Stuart, you were very special to me, still touches my heart when I see an interview or performance of BC (that is, when you were performing instead of the new singer). Have a good life somewhere there above 🌹🌺🌻🌷🎸🎸
@@abloemsma384 I really do not know why, but I do not ask the question now, he is still with the fans and he will always remain in my heart. Stay Alive my Friend 💖
The irony is, it's what happened at the release of this song as a single that was the straw that broke the camel's back for Stuart. The mix up with the packaging denied it a chart place despite it being one of the most played songs on the radio at the time. He never really recovered from this, and started his decline which led to the tragic conclusion. Big Country were a band riddled with horrendous luck and bad business choices throughout their entire career. They could (and should) have been so much bigger than they already were.
Hard to believe this is 19 years ago,,,, was there for the final fling gig at the barras,,,,, rip Stuart,,,,, your music lives on,,,,, kubix fest Saturday,,, let the great songs be heard
If any musician, artist or person, man or woman could stand up and speak to the World there is only one, it is Stuart Adamson. His words, Big Country and young Kirsten could shake this place like nothing on Earth, in time and space like the emotion, the passion and heart that Stuart opened to the World! If the World needed you, it would be now, I know because you are such an influence on my life and that my Great Friend will never leave me. Rest in Peace Stuart Adamson, thank you 💖
This brought tears to my eye! I've loved this song (and band) for the longest time, and am watching this for the first time. His daughter is the same age as mine.
How come this was not on the blue double DVD live in Berlin / Final fling night ? if indeed it's from the same night , looks like it though , I've not seen this before , anyway , Oh my God what a sight what a treat and what a song , this has to be the most meaningful footage of BC for me i think . . . . . unique rare footage.
How can any sense be made of what happened next ? See you in the next life Stuart a d thanks for all the songs and the memories of all those nights at the Barras, x
you could not have put it better. no other band has ever influenced me or changed music for me the way big country did. just hope the next generation has the sense to look back and see that being a musician was a talent that you painstakingly learned and that it didn't come from a computer program.
I was a little curious about Stuart's kids...what they look like and all....Kirsten is pretty good. What an awesome Father-Daughter activity. Peter Gabriel had his daughter sing with him on at least one tour. Being a dad's girl myself, I find it particularly touching to watch my favorite guys include their daughters in such a special way and actually witness the bond their bond of music.
They still are mate. Although there will only ever be one Stuart .... Simon Hough is doing a fantastic job as lead singer (& guitarist) along with Mark B and Bruce W together his son Jamie (guitar) and Scott Whitley (Bass). ✌🏼
I remember when he was doing an interview he said he was a guitar player first then a songwriter then a singer. RIP Stuart. Tony was his best friend and they were really close.
Only saw Big Country Once in the Flesh at Wolverhampton 2000, just in Time? One of my Very Favourite Bands along with U2, The Alarm, INXS and Simple Minds
Thanks so much for uploading this! Can't believe it wasn't on the official release. How nice to see Stuart & Kirsten performing together...and she was terrific!!! Ah Stuart, you are missed...
Stuart Afamson forever!!!!! and ever !!! He was the genius behimd Big Country and The Skids. i know the have got back for a reunion!!!!! But i prefer to keep my memories of this!!!
Big Country were playing Dublin about the same time,as Scotland were playing Ireland at the footy, still regret missing that gig...football was on that night(we won 2-1) Much missed Stuart!
Look up his other project he did just before he past away, The Rapheals. the album Supernatural. More like this song, more country, folksy style. Brilliant!
I must add my thanks, too, for this treasure of a post. kerpat, merci beaucoup for sharing this brilliant performance! It was a treat indeed to see Stuart performing with his daughter. Their vocals were fabulous. xx
I cry when I listen to this song for so many reasons. It is brilliant, but I will never hear Stuart sing it. It was telling, yet we couldn't save Stuart. I don't know how I can ever explain this song and my love for BC to my kids. They won;t get it in a Lady Gaga world. It hurts because BC is so much a part of me. I miss Stuart dearly. They don't get it and my not being able to explain it fills me with fear for the future.
mongo88now88 same for many of us.35 years for me and i will love them until i die.never get sick of big country.there music gets better with time.i feel your pain.
That's Stuart's daughter? Didn't think he was old enough....anyway, what a tight band they were - they had it all....a catalogue of songs they could have toured the world with endlessly - I have to commend the bass player, fantastic rhythm section
Great to see this superb song from the Barrowlands gig. I was fortunate enough to attend the gig and was disappointed Fragile Thing was omitted from the official BC DVD release of the gig. Many thanks for uploading.
This is my first comment ... ever. Thanks BC1000stars - whoever you are - for this unique and priceless video. I've ground down the vinyl on all my Big Country LPs, but this is my new favourite.
brilliant yes, not sure i would shame Stuart. I miss Stuart almost every day - I find it weird when I meet people who have not been touched by BC and Stuart. It's personal, but I think his messages were universal. I try, but I just can't believe in a BC now that Stuart is gone. Shame on me I guess.
Why is this not on the Final Fling DVD ?? I also have "Without the aid of a safety net " DVD and CD ,the CD has Fields of fire the DVD has'nt !! WHY?? its so annoying !! Producers should leave it how it is , Pure class !!
There are really no words to discribe this mystial, supernatural sound that Stuart penned. But,the sea of emotion that comes over me when I hear Big Country sing this song is not of this world. RIP Stuart. I've seen Hendrix, Stones- Clapton; But you are a phenomona compared to them. Kristi Potochnik
I waited for 23 years to hear this group again. Theyfell off the face of the Earth as far as songs go. Then, this year i heard this song. Ihate to tell Dylan, McCartney, ,etc.this song is of the spiritural world. As far as I'm concerned, he's up thereb with Tennyson, Monet, definitely Dali, and every artist that transcended this plane. I judge music by my reaction to it. The feelng invades your soul. RIP dear one.
there was talk at the time of dropped notes or something of the like making it not up to standard. Which to be honest if it true is BS because at the end of the day its a live show and we're not perfect, but I hear nothing wrong with it and it should been on the final fling dvd IMO. Glaring ommission.
1 of the best bands ever. Barrowlands ex venue. Have to have been there to appreciate how gòod the sound is. 1 thing they need to do is have better whèel chair 'access' that apart alls good. Big Country- probably 1 of Scotland's finest. (Stuart Adamson as a musician defo up there with the likes of Alexs Harvey,Edwin Collins,Arab Strap,TV21,Maggie Bell,Nazareth etc etc) Enough said. Yez awe take care knw.👨👩👧👦🙌❤
It's just the radio edit, to keep it 'radio song time friendly' I guess. Pity though, cos the whole song is better, but then again, most original songs are better than radio edits anyway. The way the band intended you to enjoy the song is usually the album version. The way the Radio wants you to hear it is often not something the band has total control over...

IN TIME THIS MAN WILL BE RECOGNISED AS THE GREAT SONGWRITER HE WAS.
Unfortunately, this beautiful video has only 93k watchs and less than 500 likes.. So it's only us, fans, who will carry the torch of his memory.
He already is by many of us.

1982 I bought the Crossing. I am now 52 and listen to Big Country weekly minimum. Would be lost without their music.
love this song and he gets to sing it with his daughter so great wish he was still here RIP stuart
How old was She then?

Such an early experience of performing live 🎤
Such a wonderful moment to pleasure 👏😘

Love is a small and fragile thing. I spend a lot of cold nights missing you.

The best songwriter ever, music and lyrics are timeless, thankyou

I agree , to my knowledge there is nothing wrong with the track in fact i thought it was well performed . . . as all BC's live work is . .
