- Big Country - August 27, 1986 - Pier 84, New York City
As the master tapes of this show have been reported as "unable to be located", the chances of it receiving a newly enhanced DVD or Blu-ray release are slim.
As Big Country fans are extremely resourceful, however, we keep on striving for better examples of this much loved show.
With thanks to my good friend Alan Anbari, here is the sharpest video we have yet. I sent Alan the laserdisc rip of this show recently and he has upscaled the footage. The images are sharper and clearer and the colours are warmer. The digital audio has been left untouched as the laserdisc of the show is still the best quality available to us.
You all know this gig well so there's no point repeating what has been said previously - just kick back and enjoy the show!
Stay Alive!
Deserves a bluray release
Good God. 1986, BC, Simple Minds and U2 .. the holy trinity. If I could only go back in time 24 years ago and tell Stuart "hang on in there, the music industry is about to collapse, no one will buy albums, the charts are defunct, no more music papers, no more record shops ... And your band will be retrospectively admired and youll be selling out Arenas again and you'll be having the most enjoyable time with new fans discovering your music" ... God Bless you Stuart, you are in our bones and we will never ever forget you.
Add the Waterboys to this list and the Alarm
Amen to that
Well said. We all miss Stuart
I don’t know how I missed this show. I saw BC at Roseland in NYC on their first headlining tour. Also saw them at Madison Square Garden opening for Roger Daltrey. That was a right treat
One of the greatest frontmen ever and still to this day the best band I’ve ever seen live, and I’ve seen a few
Went to Stuart’s tribute concert in Barrowlands , Glasgow many years ago. Got to see my two favourite bands, Big Country and the skids .
A very emotional night.
RIP Stuart x
Was there.
Stuart will remain forever in our hearts , Stay Alive ❤️ long live Big Country!!

Best Ever….Followed BC all over in the 80’s…❤…
I have the box set of the BBC performances, I forgot all about it and found it recently, it's so good, and comes with a few wee extra, posters etc, awesome ❤
Literally a lifesaver at 3am right now in the UK. Stunning, I caught this tour at Newcastle City Hall, half of the P.A. went down( I was, and still am a musician, you couldn't tell anything was wrong) Stuart stopped Wonderland, which was the opening song, twice, we got handed tickets on the way out (a cancelled PIL gig) for a compensation show even though they'd still done the full gig. During this period they were just perfect. What a time to be alive. STAY ALIVE!
Great memories cheers , I was there to , and the return show
Still brilliant ✌️
I was 19 years old when I went to this show with my friend Billy. What a great time and a great show!
I Am Honoured to shake this mans hand in Bristol Colston Hall in the 90"S Promoting " why the long face" Brilliant Gig 💔💯
I had this on VHS, bought it when I was sixteen in 1986. I was on the Youth Training Scheme, and had to be up at 5am to be on time for work. To get me going, I would play this every morning. It was my caffeine!!! Thanks for uploading!!! 😃
They were truly a great band and so exciting- saw them in their prime and SA was a great frontman! Great upload- big thanks!! ❤❤🔥🔥❤
This is awesome 💯. I will have to watch it properly in the morning.
Amazing to see this again. Such a great gig! Sgoyld get a blu ray release. BC at their peak for me.
Seen this tour, my first ever gig age 15, fukin' wow!
Yip same for me, 15 years of age and saw them at the Glasgow Barrowlands, it really was the best days❤
ABSOLUTE CLASS
So good!!
A great band ...... very cool and original ,,,,,,,, " Look away " one of the great songs of all time
Saw this tour in Toronto. I was 17. Totally loved it and was buying all BC vinyl I could get my hands on.
EPIC ! 😍
Thx for the upload! Bought this on a VHS-tape way back in time. Stuart during Inwards, great action against the "security".
The stop in the solo and restart at the right time. Seen that once before. That was during a Zappa gig., but this was the best. Stay Alive
Just so tight - a certain chemistry!
Electric!! Thanks BC1000 for posting all that great stuff! Big Country is simply on another level.
Thanks for the upload! I haven't seen this since 1986/87. I think the VHS tape got worn out in the end. A real nostalgia treat that takes me back to being 17 again.
Probably my favorite version of Inwards!
Big Country at their best. Still got the VHS. And the famous Inwards scene. Cheers
Awesome!! Thanks so much, Andy & Alan 🥰♥
I just back the Isle of Bute - I now totally feel the big country in Big Country. Such a great place and grew music like this. I gotta go back.
Why the video was so short to start with is a crime in itself. The quality always was shocking. Nice work both.
Thanks god all your work to upload this! 😊🎉 Brilliant.
Aw the good old days 😘
My Lord
One of my favorite Big Country concerts :) Love the part where Stuart stops the music because of the fighting @ 34:16. Thanks for the upload Andy!
And see how easy they restart! Right in the solo perfect.
Smokin'...literally!
Somehow they infused their guitars with a Scottish flavor or style that I’ll never understand but they sound like a Scottish Rock band with Scottish Melodie’s or Irish. I’m not sure which.
And it sounded different and fresh! Thanks for sharing this show!
This live performance sounds great 👍
A master piece!
Good show.
Thanks so much. A great copy of this show with BC at the top of their game.
Nice wee guitar change during the start of Fields Of Fire
Well this is a bit of a treat. Thanks Andy 👊
Thanks for sharing mate 👍🤝
Thank you for posting this❤
I was at this show! The problem was I was so young that I had NO appreciation for live music! I was annoyed that it "didn't sound like the record" ...
Oh man no way! Hope you remember the show more fondly these days.
Mark and Tone….not many better rhythm sections in rock. Perfection
❤️🤍💙
Smokin!
AI will be the end of the ability of people to earn a living but till then, restorations like this are our payoff.
upscaled LD ?
It’s an upscaled version of the LaserDisc release.
Do you think you'll be AI enhancing any of the videos?
Doubtful. Most uploaded by ‘unofficial sources' get taken down by UMG immediately.
The band is in great form. The stock footage that was added in post production is awfully cheesy though.
What happened to this guy? He was so talented! Why? Makes no sense to me. They say some people have a Suicide gene. That is the only explanation I can think of.
RIP
I lost my mother to suicide in 1990 and I truly believe that if it hadn’t been for Stuart and BC I wouldn’t be here today, they got me through some of the darkest times of my life, I was heartbroken when Stuart chose the same path as my mother, I saw the band many times live in the 80,s but never actually met them, I have never been so upset by the loss of someone I had never met, I don’t really buy the “heroes” thing but he meant so much to me…I lost my brother to suicide in 2017 and many times since I’ve asked myself if there’s such a thing as a suicide gene , I still don’t have an answer and hope I never do.
So this was upscaled from a ld……..a laserdisc?!!! Wow you had to be BIG to get that treatment………Stuart’s closing words are so poignant now.
It all sounds the same.
The audio from the source laserdisc is the best quality anyway so that didn't need changing.
May well, but no finer sound
BC1000Stars. Once Again A Big Thank you For This Awesome Post, They Are On Top Happy As Larry Form❤
What A Brutally Great Drummer, Lol.
