One of the saddest things was seeing how hurt you were over the break-ins at your store and hearing you mull over giving up.
Let me tell you, Alex; you bring so much peace and happiness to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world, if you take a pause and think about that, the people who robbed you have no such joy in their miserable little lives. What they took has material value. What you give is priceless.

Hi Alex! Those coins are definitly a good score, I would go so far as to say that they might be your most valuable find. Collectors are willing to pay huge amounts of money for some of those coins. There is a giant market for pre-1830s American coin, and some of the 1870s coins are what is called trade-dollars. They can be quite hard to find and are therefore quite sought-after.
I would not put these through a normal auction, they are too high end. I would instead contact an company specializing in coin like heritage auctions. It would also be a good idea to get them certified through Pcgs or ngc. Please take this into consideraion as I do not think they will reach their full potential price in this auction.
Pleas like so Alex sees this.

    • @Snarkapotamus
      @Snarkapotamus 3 роки тому +27

Yep, pre-1837 American coins are prized because that was the year there was a run on the banks and the start of a depression. A lot of coins were taken out of circulation and summarily hidden/buried.

I think the Ballerina grew up in this house. Her father was a tailor; looks like her mother also sewed and did embroidery, knitting or crocheting. Probably the parents worked in the basement and made their little girl the playhouse with dolls and books so she could be with them but not underfoot while they worked. Then the parents died, she inherited the house and moved all her stuff in in neatly labelled boxes when she moved. Or possibly the parents walled off part of the basement and she stored stuff in there for years and then when they died, she moved in her clothing collection 'on top of' their stuff still in the basement.
I think we're looking at two generations of the same family's stuff in the basement.

It looks like dad was a hoarder too, because of the layers upon layers of expensive tools, most of which have never been removed from their packaging or been used. The owner of the property got 10.000 bucks and a clean property, the clothes person got a huge load of fur coats - still worth some money - plus endless supply of 60 and 70 clothing, which he will be able to sell well enough to make up for the 10.000 he paid you. You got your initial investment of 10.000 from him, and will get not only the money for the dumpsters back and the money for your work force, you will also earn a good penny or two on auction and the other items. And your friends Hans, Zenovia and Josh earn some money, get some tools - and all in all everybody wins!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the enjoyable videos. My wife and both sit down to watch them together every time you post a new video. Also I have to say how much I admire Hans, Genovia and Josh what awesome people. I also have to comment about Josh coming all the way back and returning that couple of dollars he had found and forgotten about in the last video, what a honest young man! That impressed the heck out of both of us, most young people wouldn't have made that effort over a couple of bucks. Whomever raised that young man did a fine job.
I hope you continue to find lots of valuables to make all that time and hard work worth while.

I dunno, I they're old welder's safety glasses used in a tooling shop for work with small hand torches--the lenses look to be too dark to use on glacier climbs. The leather nose piece was just nose protection and doubled as a simple, cheap nose bridge without having to use more metal to make the glasses. They found several pairs, along with regular protective ones used against flying debris when you use things like that milling machine and the lathe. No one wants bits of metal flying into their eyes! :-)

Loving this series so far! Though, a small tidbit, a mill is not the only machine that can copy itself, that honor belongs to a lathe. If all you have is a lathe you can build new lathes, but while a mill is great at milling straight it's not the best at making circles. Though, all of this is only true in the very most rudimentary sense. A lathe and a mill together though could make all parts required for either machine to build some high quality stuff. They're the right and left hand of any mechanical workshop. Having just one without the other is a handicap as far as what you can make.
The rotary table is a great find, worth as much if not more than the low quality mill you found. You also had a small one in the upstairs room. There are a lot of high quality tools scattered about, all love to Josh but when he says he doesn't know what he's talking about trust him on his word. You should take out all the obviously new bad quality stuff and haul it off to auction and then get someone who actually knows tools to look at the rest. There is a lot of money buried there, and sometimes in things you don't expect.

Be careful with the shell jewelry. Some shell jewelry can be worth a lot if they are Niihau shells or other rare shells. That didn’t look like much when you scanned them but I would check. Aloha from Oahu in Hawaii!

Alex has a huge generous heart. I feel like I know him and the crew personally after watching all of these. The Potter's House sold me to subscribe. Alex rescued Mary's legacy. I think her soul rests easier now because of it. I'd like to know more about Paul. Does he have any social media? All of this makes me want to move to Canada.

Uhm - Conan the barbarian - was a fictional character.
But the name Zenovia is a sideform of the name Zenobia - which is old Greek and means "one whose life derives from Zeus. There was a historical person, too, who was named Zenobia. And I have just looked it up on Wikipedia, no expertise necessary.

That's good they need a score with all the time invested going through everything, dumpsters, moving things, then still have to pay % at auction for fees. Hope they keep finding more. Think he said early on a garage still? Not sure.

Possibly. It all depends on grading. I'm sure Alex will get these graded as the difference between Fine and Very Fine is $1000 to $3500. I'm curious to learn more about the Chinese and possibly Japanese coins even though they don't have nearly the same value.

    • @DevonianDave

Unfortunately the coins are reproductions. There are still collectors who will buy them as reproductions, but they aren't worth what the originals would be.

At 13:51, Josh pulls out a little manual drill and another thing still in the package. That other thing is a graphite marble mold! If I lived closer, I'd take that off your hands for you. I'll keep watching to see if there's more flameworking equipment--I know a couple beadmakers in Canada who may be interested.

All those fur coats would be easily over $100k.
Hoarders also stash jewelry and cash in their pockets, handbags, purses etc so I hope you got anything found, if there was.
My great aunt is a hoarder and we cleaned out their old house, it took over three years to go through and we still have a few plastic cartons.
Hats off to you all, such an undertaking in such a small time frame. Totally addicted to this little series.
