In 2020, I bought my first home... an abandoned building in my village which was filled with old car parts and tools. Over the next year, I had the building renovated into a nice little tiny house cottage which I now live in and am very pleased with! I hope you enjoyed the process.

As a architectural student this is so satisfying to see. Love what you did with the space. I wish that transforming older buildings for new purposes was done more often instead of demolishing them.
Me too! So much more character! More interesting than same, same housing projects.
Agreed. Older buildings have so much character and new construction is just ...boring to look at if I'm being honest. Glad this little building was saved and turned into a home.
I the city I was born we have a terrible problem with people destroying or "accidentally" burning down old buildings because if they get officially registered as historical within the law, any renovations have to abide by the traditional methods in wich the building was made in the first place. Sadly, this means that most of the people that live in these older estates, who tend to be of lower income in the first place (most of the city is banana farmers), would not have the money to keep living/fixing their own homes. So it's really common for a building to burn down after it starts getting considered for a historical certification.
A lot of the really old german-style buildings the city had around 30 years ago are gone, and it really saddens me, but I can't really fault the people, I get upset at the laws and think the governmet should be paying for restaurations in case the owners can't, to avoid this sort of thing.
@@Naivuren I live in a house which was built in 1596. But I only rent the appartement, I would never buy it. The windows are a pain in the ass because they HAVE to be wood and have to have a certain look. Sure, they look cool, but they don't insulate very well and are not really practical. The stairs are also pretty...idk, crooked? I don't care, but I also can't see old people living in an appartement upstairs. And even the owners of the building are not allowed to change any of this. I like my appartement and it's cozy, but I wouldn't like to be responsible for it and the house itself.
I believe it would be better to restore them, not to 'rebuild' with the modern touch but to get back to the original look in order to preserve the history
great transformation
first
This is youuuur daily dose of internet
Are you gonna include this on your new video :)
Wow:))
hello there
Yeah, having pictures of the old house is a really great idea imo.
I love the glass table. I would turn it 180 degrees so the accent color is seen through the clear part, and the sunlight would stream through the colored glass and fall onto the rug. The rug is fine. I love your bedroom choices for color and scale of furniture. You created a wonderful home full of charming spaces. I love the bookcase.
the rug could be larger encompassing the entire couch on the back of the rug. will make it warmer when on the couch
PERSONALLY(!) the table was one of only two things I really didn't like. xD
I already hate glass tables and I also absolutely don't like tables with edges that just...fall down.
Second thing was the square toilet.
nah cuz less foot space
@@dutchy4830 180. Not 90. The foot space would be exactly the same.
I love the coffee-table. You've got limited space so the transparent table makes the living room feel less cluttered, like you've still got more space.
I have the same issue now and was looking for a coffee table, your idea is great actually 🤗
Me too. Love the tiny touches of pink in an otherwise very neutral masculine home
I totally agree about the coffee table. I think it works perfectly in the space, including the slight bit of color.
What a cozy, charming space you created for yourself! Great job!!
And it adds some color to the room
Very well put, the carpet also complements the table and couch as a set piece.
It's adorable. The glass table, by being translucent, kinda transparent, allows it for the light to go through and make the space look clearer and roomier. I would call it a perfect choice.
I agree, I think the peach table is such a nice match with the pillows in the background and it just brightens up that room. A simple grey table would have made the room look really boring. Personally I'd swap out the rug for one without a pattern, as it's a small space so I'd be comfortable with a bit less going on. Other than that, looks amazing!
I'd have gone a different approach. Recycle the wood from the original sliding door. Do a rustic table.
@@TMCremixes To be honest I think that pattern is sparce enough to not be a problem. A solid one would look good too, but not sure if significantly better. I think it's nice, as it draws attention to it without being "LOOK AT MY BOLD PATTERN" kinda rug. Considering other deco elements are very neutral, I think the pattern gives the room a little personality and interest.
@@clorox1676 that's just the thing though. The deco elements being neutral make the place not "come at you" so much. It lets it breathe.
@@superdave8248 Yes exactly what i would have done too! it would look really awesome!

Oh George, your video captured my heart! I am an older single woman living in America, and have always had a dream of doing exactly what you did here. Buying an old stone small cottage, and completely rehabbing it inside and out. Lovely job, and thank you for sharing!

Don't, you're better off bulldozing it to the ground and building an entire new home. It's more expensive to replace 99% of the house. Like sure it makes for a good youtube video but a terrible financial decision.
@@taserrr Some places are worth restoring if they hold a lot of history though.
@@taserrr How much does it cost to build a home of about this size?
Pro tiny house tip. Dont be afraid to use the height avaliable.
Bedroom, get a taller bed so you can store containers under it.
I'd put the tv on the wall, get a "floating" bookshelf for your xbox. This leaves room tl push the coffee table out of the way if you need floor space.
But, that being said. If this works for you, change nothing. It looks amazing. (Boring on the colors) but amazing for "safe" choices.
Great use of space and light. And you’ve made a lovely home! Well done!
As a former architect I congratulate you on a very thoughtful and tasteful restoration. You made great use of the available space and it has a very warm, welcoming feeling.

Change rug and table
@@jacquelinehardy6423why? If it ain't broke don't change it. It's a conversation piece. You even reacted to that table and the rug is functional and not hideous.
What’s tasteful about plasterboarding over everything including the stone walls, timber frame and fireplaces?
What’s thoughtful about having the layout backwards with the bedroom and bathroom downstairs? When you spend most of your time in the lounge and kitchen? What’s thoughtful about wasting precious space with an entrance hall and a staircase, when he could have had an open plan kitchen and lounge downstairs and a spiral staircase?
I was not expecting the bedroom to be downstairs and the living room/kitchen to be up. I like the switch-up a lot!
Yes it was really cool how he did that
I was also surprised in a nice way
You see that a lot on beach houses. Not only do you get better views from your main living area but in case of flooding your more expensive rooms are higher to avoid damage.
I was expecting to see 500 people disappointed in your comment
@@25christian why?
Love the table. It is a small space, so the transparency keeps it open visually. Nice home! 😂😂😂😂
Man you really did a good job. I love how you kept the exterior as it is as possible with a touch of modern interior. Love it.
I am so impressed. I wouldn't change a thing. I especially love the window seat and the storage right outside the bedroom - so clever. I also love your stove and the book shelves where there used to be a window. I hope you have many happy years in your new home. I also love that you have framed "before" pictures. Wonderful transformation! You've inspired me to do some much needed Spring cleaning in my house.
Thank you very much Connie! That's lovely of you to say haha. I'll pass on the compliments about the window seat to my Mum since she made the grey cushion for it. 😄
@@Patchy cushions are perfect with couch, table and rug. Good taste.

thats exactly what i would want as a house. small and cozy, easy to keep clean and just exactly enough space to live in. really cool!
Stone-walled houses have something warm and simple that is so rare in contemporary architecture. I totally love your project; it turned out into a perfect country side place. Bravo!
You did a great job. You should be very proud of yourself.
Dude the place looks immaculate. Everyone who touched this place from you, to your dad, to the builder and interior designers, takes pride in their work. Great use of the space, and it looks like a great place to call home.
Love it. Am from South Africa. My passion is changing or improving properties. Too old now to do that but so glad you could.
I love that you were allowed to fix it with modern materials. Here in Germany there are thousands of properties in terrible condition that no one is willing to buy or even get for free because they are landmarked. That means that you need an army of historians to go through your property and they decide how you have to restore it. That means getting period correct reclaimed bricks, wood truces and roof shindles, no modern windows etc
on one hand I understand the sentiment bc its important to try and preserve historic landmarks, but there should definitely be a middle ground. it would be better to put the old houses to better use rather than consume more resources to build brand new places imo. but where I live you see somewhat of the opposite where beautiful historic sites gets torn down and they build a gas station or a parking lot. so I think we gotta have some give and take when it comes to this.
@@SkySilver777 i definitely have respect for people who renovate historical sites but at some point if the governing entity wants to keep it as a historical site, they should be the ones in charge of ownership and maintenance. No offense to historians but if I buy a property even with historical significance, it’s my property and I’m doing what I want with it. If they wanted it kept the way it was or renovated a certain way then they shouldn’t have sold it🤷🏻♂️
You should thank your country for that law. Here in Greece where you were encouraged to build whatever you want, people destroyed their old beautiful houses to build the ugliest apartment buildings ever. Greece is filled with them.
The same thing also happens in Brazil, so people just let the places rot and fall apart to be able to sell the property that’s left
I think Spain hit a happy medium when their government put a stop to all the tearing down of historical buildings. They made a law saying you could gut the inside if you had to, but the outside had to stay in original form. Thus a lot of the "antique" buildings you can still find there are actually quite modern on the inside, but the city gets to keep its cultural character.
I think your home is outstanding and absolutely beautiful in such a scenic setting. We have a home that is considered tiny where we are in the US is 800 sq feet or about 74 sq metres. We have two levels like you do and I absolutely love it. Your home is brilliant, so clean, full of light and cozy.
Just beautiful George. It's great you gave the old girl a second life. Very nice taste and craftsmanship.

@@andrewh.8890 I'm not sure that that's true. Even if he did pay for ads on UA-cam, the majority of people here probably came from recommended. The algorithm is more about sporadic explosive growth than it is about steady growth over time.
I like the peach table too and the carpet, they are slightly softer touches to your very clean, slick space. Wonderful house, bravo to you!
I am in awe at how you've transformed a lost space into something incredible, absolutely beautiful xx
George, I LOVE the transformation you made to the small house (as it's NOT really tiny) on The Cobbles. It is a wonderful use of space as well as a wonderfully functional first house for someone who might not have been able to purchase a house in the UK.
BRAVO to you and I wish you many happy years there.
I actually like the table, the pink injects a lot of warmth into the living space and complements the wooden accents nicely. The transparency of the table also leaves the space nice and open rather than blocking a chunk of it out… I don’t know you but I’m super proud of you & what you’ve accomplished here!
I agree the pink table adds warmth to the room. It looks perfect.
The pink table adds a soft bit of color and breaks up the white and beige with a hint of glow. Nice home!
You have nice taste Maddie :)
The only thing I would add is that the table looks a little higher than the console the TV is on, so maybe you should put the TV on something to lift it up a little. OR.....maybe it just looks that way and you can see the full screen just fine.
Very well put maddie
I think adding more plants outside the house (potted ones, herbs, etc.) will complement the home-y vibe of your house! Please do so 😍
Agreed!
Yes! It needs a lot more greenery. I love what he has done with this place so far.
Or don't
Ya sure, as long as there are no cats around cause they ruined everything we grew last year 😭
A nice climbing ivy on the wall would fit nicely with the stone.
This is an absolutely wonderful transformation. I love, love that this is an old cottage once used for storage and just neglected and that you brought it to life so beautifully. Well Done!! As for the coffee table, I would like to see a clear glass table with black metal trim and legs. That would go so nicely with your stair rails and draw that together. 😊
Great use of natural light. It made the place look a lot better.
Your vision and renovation is really stunning and I love the fact that you kept the exterior authentic and added the cobblestones. Your Dad did a fantastic job. The indoor decor is perfect, light & modern. I wouldn't change a thing. Well done.
Although I'm a year off eighty ( I do have a degree in Interior design ) and am more than nearly half dead ....I'd vote you don't change a thing .... especially and above all .... the coffee table .

The table works, it's transparency helps keep the room looking more open. If it were to be wood or metal it would give the impression that the room were more crowded!
I agree 100%. The carpet looks fine too.
More color in the carpet.
I agree, but I just really dislike glass tables in general.
Would rather have wood.
Generally I agree also, a fully glass table is a difficult look to pull off. I think he did good here though :^)
the pinkish hue goes well with the light wood. its a straight up vibe
How wonderful that you've breathed new life into an old, abandoned, unloved building. I hope it's a beautiful home for you.
I love this remodel. The building is cozy. The kitchen is unique and all the natural light is appealing.
i was a bit worried about how you would respect/treat the original building, and honestly i think you did a great job. you didn’t fully tear down or destroy things for no reason, but still realized an old home isn’t perfect for a modern life. lots of charm and truly a beautiful house, great job!
Agreed, it looks great! I think it would've been great too to leave some of the original features such as the old fireplaces, but of course that would have been difficult with the extra layer of isolation :)
The old thing was worn down and wasn’t capable of living in.
@@telordesuvage3072 basically a new interior for sure...
Three things:
1. It is so, so amazing to see old buildings like this being restored instead of demolished and this was beautifully done IMO
2. This narration was wildly endearing
3. Your rug and table look great. Just flip the table around so the pink is on the other side. The clear side facing the open area will make your space look bigger.
Beautifully done! This was my favourite video I’ve come across in quite awhile!
Wildly endearing, yes!
Yes flip the pink to the left. It will be great. The house is stunning by the way
I thought the exact same thing. Flip the table, so the pink harmonises with the colour of the pillows by the window.
same idea about the table the pink would match up with the pillows he has in his window seat.
I stayed on for No. 2..(chuckles🤭).. And surely for the magnificent tour..
I loved everything you've done! You have politely accomplished thoroughly and perfectly what others take an hour to do, and with too much filler and not the precision which you have shown. Your parents should be proud! You are quite talented and your video should be the benchmark for all. Thank you! God bless you, your family and every future work you do.
The coffee table is perfect, just trade it in for a fully clear one and go darker on the carpet.
I love the subtle color of the coffee table, I agree with a commenter who said turn it the other way so the colored end is closer to the window, the rug is fine but you might find it’s too light (showing dirt more easily) for the living area. I really appreciate what you did with this lovely old building.
I'm Scottish and it's incredible to see someone preserving these wonderful buildings and giving them new life. You've made a stunning house for yourself! Congratulations mate.

Love the table. It's an intuitive selection and adds that "pop" that professionals look for. Honey, don't let anyone TELL you what you like. You turned this from an abandoned building into a home. Well done. It doesn't have to be perfect for anyone else. If they want to make changes, put a huge price on it and if they buy it, then it's their decision. You're living with it. If you like it, it works.

It's so beautiful, cosy and homely. Everything about your home is gorgeous... And, may I add, your personality is awesome! ♥️♥️♥️
First time I've been actually jealous over something, being a Native American wanting to travel abroad I always wanted to buy a property like this. I love how you restored and added cobble work to keep the culture and integrity of the area.
Wow nice bones!
In Germany you have to make the renovation similar in style to the era for listed monuments. I think its the same for our former EU partners on the islands.😁 A friend of mine renovated an old farm building an had to build in a second new door because the first was to modern in style. 8000€ for the trash.
We got plenty of small houses like this in Croatia, but the issue is the material and renovation cost, it's like x10 than the price of the property itself.
Also what Marc said, you are required to keep the windows, doors and the facade "in style" with the village, you can't have a modern solar house in a village with old historical buildings (makes sense).
Explain how your ethnicity is relevant to the discussion... At all?
@@10pmmemes88 Americans always invest in poor countries, probably that 😂
I think the table is cool. Because it's clear it doesn't block the visual space like a wooden table would. Really cool compact house. Good job!
Ive never seen a table like that it looks cool and modern
Yes and in smaller spaces acrylic furniture works best to give the appearance of space I general
Yes I like the table as well
The pink glass table is gorgeous - such item should have only been mine! But the floor should never be made of wood - trees and flowers are sacred and not meant to be _ed by humnz! Only synthetic materiaIs should be used to make items! Also, the food related term jam cannot be in humnz’ names - the name James must be changed! And, the other name is also unsuitable for humnz!
I agree about the table , being clear doesn’t block view or make the space heavy feeling, but I personally wouldn’t like the pinkish hue it gives off . Kinda throws me off. At first I was wondering why you didn’t put the bedroom bath up stairs. But after seeing the light and the view.. I get it. Great job.

The color of the coffee table coordinates with the pillows on the bay window, which pulls them together and draws the eyes to the wonderful view outside. A splash of color gives the room life and a touch of fun
I totally agree. I think maybe bring in a throw for the couch or some wall art Or if u hve room on couch for one or two solid colored throw pillows of that same accent color used in table a stripe in chair pillow.

You've done an amazing job. It's nice to see the old building preserved and even restored to its former glory. I prefer a traditional style and I love the georgian windows that you've put in. The outdoor lights, the cobles, the windows - everything works in harmony. It's pleasing to the eye. Indoors modern interior also works well with this tradional house. Glad that you've chosen white for the walls as it goes with everything and you can put your own accents on them. Wood, white and grey are great combination of colours. To be honest, I am not keen on the coffee table, simply because it's plastic. Plastic kind of looks cheap. But that's my humble opinion. Overall it's a very cosy house. I wouldn't mind living in such place. 😊
The only thing I would change is to get some curtains for your windows. It’ll keep warm air in/cool air out during the cold season while offering you some additional privacy year round.

Really fine job. But I do have a comment - the building was damp and with internal insulation and no information on the cause of this problem (roof, foundations?) will the damp not stay in the walls?
@@konradlangwald7082 Yes it Might. In this cases you need to isolate the house from the problem. If there is a stream nearby, groundwater, u need to identify it, correct it by diverging the direction from the house and making the foundations water proof. If not , expensive solutions you can even add inside the walls electric system to heat the walls. usually building a "pool" system around the house will help. The roof is new right, so it wont be through there.

The glass table in your living area looks fine. It works with the light, whereas a solid surface would interrupt the flow and perhaps make the small space look cluttered. It also picks out the colours in the fabrics around the window.
I agree. its a lovely pop of colour, nice and soft to so not to distract. Its a lovely wee home.
Agreed!
I would just try turning the table around so the pink is closer to the window. I think in the light it will have better visual impact and open up the center of the room better.
I like the table! I love the house! Great job!
Nothing to add or change, it's already nice and cozy. I even like it
Beautifully done. So great to see someone so young wanting to retain history
You, young man, should be very proud of yourself 👏🏻 You’ve done an incredible job and your vision of how to bring this property back to life is commendable. How lucky you are to have parents who supported this vision with their help/labour and how proud they must be of you in turn.
Agreed, thank you for choosing a thoughtful renovation. Additionally, what an excellent cobble-stone walk your father made! Best wishes. :)
Absolutely gorgeous, everything 😍
He did nothing himself, anyone can pay someone to do the job!
Blah Blah Blah!
@@maryanngardner9270 It is not always about doing it all by yourself. The most important thing is, to have a vision. How to transform an old building in something beautiful that will work for you. There is nothing wrong in asking professionals to do the 'work'. That's what they are there for.
I enjoyed it very much! You are very amusing in telling the story.
“…iverlooking my village, well it’s not my village…” 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah there was a lot of subtle funny little comments. Funny guy!
Not his village...
Yet! ;)
@@LastofAvari yes he does not own it. 😆 so funny
I agree he has an interesting way of phrasing the story bits. like it's not my village I don't own it. and the desk where he makes all of his click bait. and about the frog he said he took him outside and he's getting on just fine. well maybe not he might be dead, I don't know how long Frog's live. I definitely got a laugh out the amusing way he told the story.
The frosted glass to prevent people 'perving' on him 😆
Absolutely love it, from the sash windows to the oak flooring and that table … I hope they still sell them 🫶🏻
Absolutely love what you did with the house. It is so cozy and bright. Beautiful work. Congratulations on your home.
I love seeing buildings repurposed rather than torn down, especially in a historical area youve done a great job
his family paid workers to do this
@@oatmealian
Ok?
Love what u did to the old place, job very well done! Please don't change the rug and table, it's perfect as it is.
U sound like such a sweet guy.
@@oatmealian as opposed to not paying them I think he did the right thing
The table is a good idea - the glass adds some warm color and the clear material makes the space look bigger. The rug is fine. I might choose one with more color to brighten up the room, but neutral is fine.
Your cottage is cozy and charming.. :)
Would turning the table around help? Seeing it from clear to pink will continue an open feel I assume
@@niknack7420 Do not overthink this :). Live with for at least a year an then you can make some decisions. Crazy John
I absolutely adore this! I've always wanted a tiny home and you've rennovated this so perfectly. Great job 💗
Fabulous job transforming the space and your tastes are spot on. I love the clear to pink fade coffee table but agree that you should turn it 180 degrees to have the window light shine through the pink end.
The glass table versus wood or metal makes your room seem so much bigger. I love the contrast of peach to clear. I personally think the carpet is perfect. It goes with your couch so well. Love what you did with this house
Hello. What do you think of my videos?🥰
Don't change a thing in the living room. A table that you can see through helps make the space feel bigger - a solid table will block that see through element. I love the rug. What is behind the door in the corner by the window?
Well done you!
Probably the boiler or fuse box.
@@TheK-PopInPublicAuthority oh i thought id be like a secret room. guess that makes more sense 💀
Mother in law suite
Perfect rug, inspired table choice!
Yes. I like the clear pink table. Looks cool and different. Perfect for this different looking house.
I like it clear bc it makes the place look bigger.
Good job mate!!
This looks like such a lovely house! In my opinion, it’s the perfect size for one person - not small enough to get cramped, not large enough to get lonely. It looks so open and welcoming, I hope I can find a similar home myself someday.
I hope you find one too
Tbh even two people can live in the house and it'll feel comfy
This is a lovely transformation and even though you’re not sure about the coffee table because it’s see through makes the space look bigger as opposed to solid wood or metal. I love what you’ve done. 🇬🇧
My thoughts exactly! I'd just rotate it so the front part is transparent and doesn't cut off the room. I think the hint of color would work even better then.
@@williamdacic my thoughts exactly
Also that the pink gradient is in the warm family that draws your eyes to the pillows in the window seat and to the lovely view outside. I like it.
This is bang on mate. Congratulations on turning something so old and unloved into a cute little home. Sounds like it was quite the expense but now you have your own piece of heaven. Just think, this will still be around in a couple hundred years because of you.
Good on you for getting this old house renovated and it's a good transformation and the best interest for you to live into this small home.
I can't believe how the house looks now! For being a small house, it has the feeling of spaciousness, yet is cozy as well. You are very talented-lots of luck!
Small house?! That thing is huge
@@Danny-kun it looks small from the outside, it definitely isn't bigger than a 2 room apartment but the space is well utilized
Great Job! Please consider rotating the glass table 180 degrees so the pink side faces the window. The incident light will tone down the pink hue. It may also offer your living room a bigger appearance.
Yes! This. I was going to suggest the same thing. 😊
brilliant!
@@Kibenwa Me too :))
This!!
I found your channel 10 mins ago (saw the video first) and I'd just like to say nice going. It is nice to see that there are indeed at least some of us young folks who seem to be able to move into our own place, owned by ourselves - and not the bankers or the merchants.
