    This is so much better than what most people do when they film a hoarder house cleanout for youtube, which is just show a bunch of blurry time-lapse footage. I like how you actually show what you find in real time. :)

    I've been really interested in all the neat things you are finding in this house. The sad part is how much is stuffed in all the rooms and taking over the house... and taking over the lives of those who kept it all. So much that never saw the light of day and wasn't enjoyed or looked at by anyone. It becomes really sad when things get so packed in nobody even remembers what all is in there. Videos like this keep me motivated to sell, give and keep it at a minimum in my home. (I still have enough, but you can enjoy it. lol)

    The baking nails! I am 68 and have my mother's baking nails. We never bake potatoes without them! So much better than wrapping them in foil to bake them. I love the crispy potato skins. Just wash, push the nail in and set them on the shelf in the oven. The nail conducts heat and makes the inside of the potato cook faster. I thought EVERYBODY knew that! Maybe it's an American thing! Mine are at least 50 years old!

    • @DawnDavidson
      @DawnDavidson 2 роки тому +4

      We had a hinged thing that was like 4 baking nails hooked together in an X shape. You’d pull it open, and spear your potatoes on them, and then it would stand up in the oven. They worked! Would cut the baking time down by maybe 1/3? We always washed and then greased the potato skins, so they’d get all crispy. So tasty that way!

    I've been following you and your family since the Potter's House.
    These clean-outs have new meaning - for me - as my husband just passed (far too young) last weekend, and I'm looking at purging my own home of excess "stuff." Mainly because I don't want to leave a mess for my friends to deal with (we have no children).

      Nancy I too wish to offer my sympathy on your loss. I will be facing that situation sooner than I want (husband stage 4 cancer). We have so much stuff in a tiny house I am clearing out a little every now and then.. I use to have a candle and soap business. I had about 30 bars of soap in a bucket that I had made at least 13 years ago threw it out today not sure how safe it would be and I haven't used it so out it went. A little at a time. Bless you. • @droof100
    @droof100 2 роки тому +28

    I believe the little wooden box with two compartments is a tea 'caddy' or box - looks like its been re-purposed. Different types of loose tea would be in either compartment and the owner would mix their own blend of the two teas to their taste. They were usually lined with tin. My great-aunt had one she used every day. She was a vicar's housekeeper.

    • @lynnedelacy2841

      Yes I thought it was a tea caddy too the remnants of the metal lining gave it away

      I thought it was a sewing kit. The metal would be to hold needles, buttons. ?

    • @droof100
      @droof100 2 роки тому +3

      @@skeetervaz5393 It may have been repurposed, but I'm pretty sure it started its life as a tea caddy. Two compartments, both with lids and lined with tin. It was a typical design for a caddy. One compartment would have had black tea leaves and the other, green. People would have a preferred mix.
      My great aunt Mable, had 2 teaspoons of green and one of black for the breakfast pot and two black with one green for afternoon tea. A proper brown stoneware tea pot too.
      Fond memories, some forty-something years ago now.
      You don't hear of many Mables now ... 😄

    Wow, looks like a lot of work! But it was fun to see the family helping out today! Hopefully it all keeps going along smoothly for you.

    Lots of people who make junk journals would be interested in the old books and any old paper! You should check into selling those items to the craft world!

    This was so much fun. I love it when your family helps you out. "I found whatever this is.".....priceless! You are so patient in explaining everything to the kids. You and Melissa are great parents.

    Definitely look at selling any vintage clothes that aren't claimed! Those knit 80s sweaters like the pastel one around the midpoint of the video are highly coveted among the Japanese fashion communities! The bloomers might sell as well, but probably not for much unless they're from a big Japanese brand.
