The thing that makes Fuji cameras so special aside from the recipes, is the camera itself. No one wants to walk around with a huge full frame brick of a camera and huge lens and look like a total nerd out there in the streets, or around friends. Compactness and beauty has a huge impact on how a camera inspires you to go out and shoot.
Yeh I did reference that at the end but if you like shooting pro video AND photo AND switching out lenses, the Lumix is a great option. Every camera has its core purpose 🤩👌🏻🎥
This is pretty awesome. My sister wants to get into photography but is a bit intimidated by editing software. So this would be great for her to just go out there and shoot 📸 Thanks!
While this is true, its not the only reason the X100v is so popular, as all fuji cameras in the X series offer film simulations. Its the fact that the X100v is the only well know fixed lens fuji camera that can do it all in one package, like a mobile phone, but in a retro body. The S5 can indeed use real time luts, but the problem is, you have to get the LUTs, they are not baked in, and most X100V users simply wont want to do this. I think its a great idea and love to play with the real time luts, but getting good free luts its tricky, you have to pay and then load them up. Film convert looks like a great way to create the LUTS though!
The ones you pay for are usually better in all fairness. Just like anything. Sure, it’s great to have it in the camera already like the Fuji. But for people with the Lumix already who may be thinking of buying a second camera, this could save some dollar 😊 Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🏻😊🎥
@@SamHolland it's on reason I have an S5ii, the real time luts are great, although the picture profiles alone on the S5 are pretty good. Now if Lumix integrated som luts into the app so you could just send a recipe to the camera, that would be cool.
Superb video Sam. Thank you! I particularly liked the way you recommended adding the luts to custom settings to be able to have more control over the final image. I look forward to your next video. Take care and be safe. Andy.
Great video Sam! I absolutely LOVE the feeling I get from shooting with my X Pro2 (another great 100V alternative) both in the physical feel and image feel, HOWEVER I also know the S5ii is slept on a lot for its insanely good image quality! I just got my unit in and uploaded a review and cannot wait to spend more time in the seat with it. Much love from East Tennessee🙏🏼
most underrated feature ever... all camera manufacturers should implement this asap.... and Panasonic also should make a retro styled Lumix, paired with the Sigma Contemporary Primes we'd have a perfect retro camera with already edited SOOC jpgs
Great trick Sam, might have to experiment with this on some Sony cameras too. It also brings up an interesting thought for having these looks baked into video. As you say there's almost an art and skill to shooting in camera to the look, perhaps that's a trend we could start seeing in video recording too, not sure I'd risk it on a client though 😄
Good stuff mate! Keep the Lumix content coming 🙌🏽 So funny reading some of the diehard Fuji fanboy comments 😅 taking it way too seriously. I personally love the Fuji emulation and form factor but this Lumix real-time Lut feature has just opened a whole new avenue for creating literally any look (that’s even more customisable than Fuji). With these new Lumix cameras, you aren’t limited to the Fujifilm emulations🔥
Haha always 🎥👌🏻 Totally. All cameras are great I just like talking about stuff that I enjoy and think is cool, doesn’t mean I hate any other brand 😂 Exactly. It’s great! 🤩👌🏻🎥
That's very cool! - The camera is near enough double the size of the new X-S20 and surprisingly, there are even some advantages on the X-S20, like (slightly) higher resolution 6k open gate and photos, a lot less crop at 4k 60, way better battery, more AI things like vehicle detection, etc - it also does higher bitrate 360mbit h265 4:2:2 FLOG2, can do raw external recording - it's quite incredible considering you can fit 2 of these cameras almost in the same footprint as the S5 II
I'm thinking of switching from Fuji X-T3 to S5IIx, initially I bought X-T3 as a hybrid photo/video device. And while X-T3 is still more than enough for me, there's some really irritating things that I can't get over it (difference between colors in LCD and EVF, strange auto-exposure behavior while half-pressed shutter). But I hardly will be able to afford it soon, prices in my country skyrocketed because of politics and whatnot, and I don't even have decent pc/laptop for editing, only ancient 2012 model ;c But I still have some doubts on rolling shutter performance in S5iix for example, and if in future I'll be able to afford to switch, it'll be hard choice between S5IIx and Fuji X-H2s.
I just having a thought on how biggie that feature is but it's just simply a LUT with intuitive concepts or effects and also fancy color profile naming by Fujifilm. That is just for people who are not very technical about cameras. It's a nice toy.
It's not just the film sims and the recipes though that make people want an x100v. I have an s5ii, I freaking love it and use it for more professional work, but I hardly ever think of it as an EDC camera. It's just too big for everyday carry... and If you use the sigma lenses like I do to take full advantage of that full-frame awesomeness, it just makes the whole setup MASSIVE. Even if you bring just one lens, massive my friend. The panasonic 1.8 lenses are small in comparison to other FF lenses, but still pretty big compared to simply bringing out an x100v. That's the sell of it - the entire package it gives in stylish, jacket-pocketable body. Built in ND, flash sync with leaf shutter, the film sims + recipes, a tiny form factor that makes you want to bring it everywhere, a beautiful/stylish camera (I don't know why youtubers and creators discount this so much, it's pretty important to MOST people - as it makes you want to take more photos), weather sealing... All of this in a tiny camera body. Fact is, you can't get this package with any full-frame camera in the market now. It's a fun little camera to use that gives you an experience that you can't really get anywhere else. The closest thing I can think of is a Ricoh GR3 which isn't really it either, or a Leica Q3 which is $6000 lol. I even got an X-E4, which is basically an interchangeable lens x100v and it's still not the same experience. Love the video Sam, huge fan of yours, and I bought an S5ii from watching your Japan video. You're not wrong in this video, it's a cool compromise to film sims (that still requires a few steps to get there though), BUTTTT, the S5ii isn't nearly an x100v replacement. If I were Panasonic, id' make a new LX100. That camera is almost there... It has the retro range-finder-like styling, similar features to the x100v (although missing some core ones like built in ND and weather sealing), and comes in a small form factor. Make a full-frame version of the LX100 with a fixed 35mm focal range at 2.0 and bam, they would be the new king in that category
A Canon 5D Classic will do the same a lot cheaper, a couple hundred US bucks will get it for you. Another hundred for a Canon nifty fifty and you're in business. No LUTs required.
Man, you really missed the mark here. This is very weird comparison between two cameras. Regarding fujifilm recipes or film emulations these are present on EVERY fuji x camera not just x100v so everything you said about film simulations can be applied to every other fuji x model. Nobody is buying x100v for the film simulations. Your comparison isn’t working because x100v is conceptually completely different camera than lumix s5ii as is different compared to every other fuji x camera. And the fun thing is that x100v actually HAS one feature that no other camera has (except for medium format systems) and that feature is called LEAF SHUTTER. Being a fixed lens camera it was relatively easy to implement the leaf shutter and on top of that is compact, made for totally different type of (street) photography, off center evf etc, etc… That is the feature your video should’ve been about. Or alternatively, you could have compared fuji x-h2 hybrid camera with lumix s5ii and than say… “ ok, lumix has more elaborate LUT system and if you ever wanted fuji film sims this could be an alternative.. “ That way you would have compared apples to apples. Now I hold you responsible for that kind of (un)educational videos because it’s misleading to say the least. Thnx for reading
How is Sam incompetent?! 😂 Of course Fujifilm recipes are on every Fuji camera but in the opening scene he’s referencing a specific video which mentions a specific model. And on top of that, the X100v is arguably their most popular and searched camera model atm. He’s smart for focusing on it for SEO. “Now I hold you responsible…” 😂 chill. It’s a UA-cam video that has just shown Lumix users an alternative method and an even more customisable feature (than Fuji) that allows the user to create their own emulations
@@SamHolland always liked their approach and the X-Pro style of bodies. Actually I'd say it's the opposite. The release of the XS20 a month ago, the XH2s and XT-5 a year or so ago is proof that they're headed towards accessiblity over their 'luxury/unique' side. More fuji fans are upset that they are working on more 'mainstream' vlog type cameras
