2:48 small correction, though important enough to point out. The O in OLED stands for Organic, which means OLED pixels degrade/decay with use. Burn-in refers to when pixels degrade unequally in a pattern so you notice the difference between common and uncommonly used pixels. Modern monitors mitigate this phenomenon by having screen savers that don't "save" your screen but rather make sure every pixel is degraded at the same rate. I'm so close to buying a 32" OLED. So close. Just waiting to see if they're doing any Black Friday deals on them. $800 for the MSI is still a little spicy. And my 32" Corsair Xeneon is already pretty great as is.
I'm not recommending the currently $799 MSI 4K 160hz OLED MAG monitor because you cannot update the firmware on the MAG OLED series for some reason (only the MPG). And the MPG version of that monitor is sold out. That is why I jumped straight to the new 240hz versions.

Even though I am not in the market for a monitor atm and I don't know when I will be I appreciate that you do these videos to go in depth about it and I always enjoy watching them. I know where I'm coming first when I am in the market.
16:44 I agree, I love my ASUS PG32UCDM. But I bought mine for a little over $1000. But if I was buying now I wouldn't pay $300 more for it. Stick with Aorus FO32U2P until Asus comes down on price.
Will I get a display port cable with purchase of a 4k monitor or just HDMI? I have a NVIDIA GPU. I'm not a gamer although I played Wolfenstein back in the last century. Will the HDMI data be enough for engineering/3D animation rendering display? What about refresh rate from HDMI when screen recording? Will not having a display port cable/HDMI only cause frames to drop? I'm shopping now in anticipation of Black Friday! Yeah baby!
Good video. I would also throw the MSI MAG 323UPF in the 32 inch catagory. It has good specs and reviews, and is currently $530. Also my parents and I have the 65 inch U7N as our Living Room TV and it's great.
So glad we got this video. I’m hoping to get a dual-monitor setup for streaming: Fast 32" 4k OLED monitor for my game, and a slower but bigger 4k OLED monitor for OBS - something like an LG C4. Love the recommendations.
I am currently using a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU on my Lenovo Legion 5 laptop and I wanted to buy a monitor and plug it into my laptop so I enhance my gaming experience and I really wanted to know your personal recommendation on a monitor you think would give me the best display possible. My budget is around $500. If you could also recommend the exact cables to use to connect that monitor to my laptop, I would greatly appreciate it, thank you! Subscribed :)
Is 4k the way? I'm loving super ultra wide at 1440p, even my 4090 has trouble maxing out some games like Alan Wake 2, Starfield and Cyberpunk. I'm a big fan of VA panels, they are just more reliable and no fear of burn in. My LG 45" Super Ultrawide has been flawless so far I only max out its 200fps on slightly older titles.
@@carlo1132 maxing out settings is not the way. Eye candy is nice, but I spot baddies in shooters that my teammates can’t see because of 1: screen real estate (42”/high FOV) and 2: 4k resolution.
Totally depends on the gamer. I personally enjoy my 4k but that's because visual quality is the most important to me. For more fps heavy gaming 1440p is still king
How do you rate TCl in todays market? Right now im sitting on 2 samsungs 49 curved, but those TCL`s seems kinda sweet in todays market Have you tested them?
I don't understand why more people don't connect their PCs to 120Hz TVs. Noticing 120Hz vs 240Hz is so situational whereas having a display that is 2-3x in area is completely insane. It does require more space and sitting further away, but those things also free up your seating options to reduce neck/eye strain. Plus the TV space is EXTREMELY competitive so during Black Friday you can find insane deals with great warranties. Bought a used 55" LG C2 OLED (120Hz) for $600 with warranty last year and it has been a game changer.
Same, I have a 55" too and sit 10ft away in a living room with wireless keyboard and mouse. For the price of some high-end monitors I'd rather buy a TV with high refresh rate and is used for many other applications than only a PC monitor.
monitors have lower input lag, higher refresh rates, faster response times, displayport for things like g-sync/freesync. With a tv you need to sit far enough away to where you aren't moving your eyes and head just to see the whole screen
@@russellbower2557 modern TVs all support gsync/freesync. Plus OLEDs have amazing 1-2ms input lag. Your comment shows why most people probably don't switch though. Misinformation!
I have made purchases off your recommendations and have never been disappointed with any of them. Your breakdown of budget midrange and high end is great. Thank you for all your great work
IMO you need to consider PPI when buying a PC monitor. I have a 42" C3 and love it. It has ~105 PPI which is fine if you sit a good armlength (~80cm) away from your monitor. I wouldn't go below 100 PPI on a desk monitor. On the other hand I believe, most people will not see a difference above 150 PPI on a desk monitor. This is also called pixel per degree. If i remember correctly it should be above 60.
I tried some different monitors for my setup and it does make a big difference. For sitting close to my monitors, I really like a 27" 4K the best, the pixels per inch makes them very sharp while being close. The distance does matter, and as you are farther away 1440p is very good and 32" can be nice. The right one depends on your setup, really. Thumbs up for great guides!
Just ran to Amazon and purchased like new Gigabyte M28U after your recommendation for $332.33. I was planning on waiting until next week but found this like new deal from Amazon. Hopefully it will come as advertised in like new condition with all included accessories. Thanks Mr. PC Builder!
I been looking daily at which monitor to get for my ps5 pro. So many different ones. Was thinking either 28" or 32" might be the one. Not sure If I want curved or flat. I jus want the best picture graphics I'm a casual player but want a good monitor. Ones I been looking at was gigabyte m32u or m32UC the LG 32" gr93u, ASus xg32uq. Which one you think would be best to run my ps5 pro? Was looking at spending around 600 to 750 for a monitor
Another 4K monitor I can recommend is an MSI G321CU 31.5" 144hz curved monitor. My first curved one too imo I really like it, plus when I got it in march it was the cheapest 4K monitor I could find that had at least 120hz and 32" size. Even being more budget friendly it was a huge upgrade from my old 1080p 60hz 27" acer led we had for about 10 years. Around $380 to 400 I ordered mine off amazon for $380 and total cost was $410. Weird only new ones currently are on amazon but the resellers want $600 for those... There's some others used but resellers want $400-$600, one listing used but like new is $380 and one refirbished-excellent listing for $380. Only 2 other listings on newegg, both 2 packs but those are almost $1400 super expensive. Some on ebay too for $310 but they're refurbished
oh thats my monitor, yeah about a year ago it was a steal for me at 500 usd but nowadays with prices overall down I think its preferable to get an ips as this is a va which may not be as appealing to some folks. I've had a blast with it and my 4080 though.
I think we can all agree with this, but there needs to be an edit when Mr. Bear approaches the front lens lol sorta like in jaws when the shark is approaching somebody 😂
I had a rock solid ASUS 27" TN panel (1920x1200) for so long, it just refused to die and when it finally did, I was in the dilema of having to replace my daughters entire PC (and monitor) at the same time, because she was old enough to start enjoying a wider variety of games and her current PC just wasn't up to newer titles. That was all gonna cost me close to a grand! We also needed a new TV - my old one was an ex-display model and had started to turn blue in the corners and was out of warranty. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone and bought a 42" OLED LG TV to game on. Luckily, my "desk" is an original 1960's architects desk, it's huge, and with the TV right at the back it's perfectly fine to play games sitting at the desk (once you get used to it) and the quality was amazing. Everything from gaming to browsing the web to reading documents etc. I couldn't go back to a monitor now. Although I do still use a 23" LG IPS panel whenever I'm sketching and need to pull up references etc.
Really incredible breakdown of this information, very helpful. Ive been watching a few of your videos and bought a tv based on your recommendations. I will be sharing your videos with my friends in similar spots too! Thank you so much
Thank you so much for this video. All of your published videos seem truly helpful for shoppers and builders like me. I have recently built my first PC, and I am using the Ryzen 9 7950x3D and a Gigabyte RTX 4080 Super stacked onto a ASRock X670E Taichi MB. I seem to be having trouble deciding if it would be better to purchase a gaming monitor or a TV. Any recommendations? Thank you.
So glad to help! That decision completely depends on the game play style you are looking for. Planing to sit on your couch and maybe also have a console hooked up to it? Go TV! We love our LG C3 for example. Plan to sit at a desk and also use the PC for anything other than gaming? Go monitor!
Hey Jason thank you so much for this video, you're channel has helped me so much for my first build in over 8 years! My build has a 4090 & 7950x3d, i will be using it for primarily gaming and game development. My question is, would it make sense to get one of your higher end 4k monitors as my primary gaming display, and a budget 4k display as my secondary monitor for development and productivity work? I'm worried about the blurry text on an OLED panel making it difficult to read.
Hello! For this use case yes that might make sense. For gaming I usually recommend two of the same to avoid performance issues but for this I get the reasoning
I've just switched to a 4070 ti super and this is the monitor I'm using the ASRock Phantom Gaming PG34WQ15R3A 34" UltraWide Curved Gaming Monitor - VA, 1ms, I can safely say this is a beast

There's a lot of bad options out there. Don't be afraid to go to 1440p if needed for a great experience too. See our 1440p Gaming Monitor 2024 video for more

As an avid fan of your guides, I want to thank you so much! I've been very careful in choosing my PC parts because of your guides. Thank you so much! Now I have a question regarding what 4k OLED monitor should I use purely for gaming? Not FPS but more on RPG games like wukong, elden tree, final fantasy 16, warhammer 40k, diablo 4 and much more single player games. Here's my PC Build. Will I get a display port cable with purchase of a 4k monitor or just HDMI? I have a NVIDIA GPU. I'm not a gamer although I played Wolfenstein back in the last century.
You could upgrade to 4k and upscale with DLSS Quality, get the same FPS. I'm also torn between choosing a 4k or 2k monitor...
@@louisfriend9323 Im running 5120 x 1440p right now, super ultrawides totally change the gaming experience for me, this is considered 3.5k.
Oh and to be clear, this doesn’t mean I am in any way effective about doing something about said baddies.
Agreed! Its a great option. We have this setup with our LG C3
I have an acer predator gsync monitor from 2018. Wonder if I can still use it with an AMD card?
14:05 The MSI MAG series OLED monitors now have a firmware update utility that works if you get one of the recent batch units

I have made purchases off your recommendations and have never been disappointed with any of them. Your breakdown of budget midrange and high end is great. Thank you for all your great work
If price wasn't an issue, or consideration even, and you'd like to future proof a setup, would you've gone for the MSI MPG 321 or Alienware 3225 QF?
Well said on setup! Thanks for watching

I’m still a little overwhelmed. What would you recommend for a PS5/PS5 Pro or should I stick to 2k? I’m leaning towards 4k though.
4K is good and any of the options here are good.
What's your budget for this Monitor?
I personally use the 4k LG C3 TV with my PS5 and love it. Totally up to you and what you are looking for
I been looking daily at which monitor to get for my ps5 pro.
Based on reviews I like the MSI MAG 323UPF which is currently $530 + Tax.
My friend purchased a 4K QD-OLED monitor, and after trying it, I have decided that OLED has to be my next monitor.
One you've gone OLED its hards to go back!
I think we can all agree with this, but there needs to be an edit when Mr. Bear approaches the front lens lol sorta like in jaws when the shark is approaching somebody 😂
Mr. Bear will strike when the time is right haha ;) Thanks so much for enjoying the channel!
Thanks for sharing!
