I've been gaming on an LG C8 OLED for a bit over 4 years now I think it is. I've had the pixel shift on the whole time. I've had no burn-in at all. No problems gaming on it. It's been amazing and I couldn't go back to a non-OLED display.

I have the alienware qd - oled 34 inch. It's amazing. The dark scenes are very detailed and true to life. It's still super dark, but you can see in detail. For example if it's super dark in game and someone in front of you has a flashlight, it's like a new sensation, it looks real in a way. Can't explain it. But it's worth it

I bought the same back end of last year when there was a discount near Christmas. Not having to deal with backlight bleed makes dark scenes amazing, let along with HDR. Its a hard thing to explain, it has to be seen to really know the difference. The motion clarity is amazing on OLED too and for me at least the UW aspect is great. Works fantastic with the PS5 as well since they brought in 1440p support. Zero regrets from me

The way colors pop and the deepness of black levels made me want to replay all my favorite games to experience them with it. I took as few precautions like no desktop icons, an auto hide taskbar, and screen timeout, but once you get used to them they're really not concessions. Don't know how much of that was actually necessary, but 18K hours and counting without a bit of trouble has been worth it. 4K/OLED is the best upgrade I ever made to my gaming setup. One tip. Set the OLED brightness lower than max.. this alone will also prevent most all issues because this is what drives retention. Max oled brightness drives the leds.. at their max. Lowering this just by 10 is not noticeable but helps a lot.

I've bought the LG G2 55" tv last year, and it's fantastic. PC, 4K movies, PS5, all looks beautiful, I've not had any issues of any kind. Despite many reviewers on the web praising QD-OLED by Samsung and Sony, after visiting a store to compare them in the real world the LG really stood out for me and my choice was made much less difficult. My only complaint would be the number of HDMI ports (4) but that is something of a complaint about all TVs now. I bought a decent HDMI splitter which solved that problem, and I'm looking into getting a new AV receiver somewhere this year which has a HDMI splitter built in and can extract the best possible audio from the source. Possibly the Marantz Cinema 50. My PC will still be plugged into the TV via HDMI directly to keep the lowest latency possible, and audio through SPDIF to my amp works really well so I'm sticking with that setup. NVidia doesn't like the splitter, causing desktop resolution changes, very annoying. Hope all my research into video/gaming/audio can help someone on their way to a new setup!

@@rafenwulf optical is bandwidth limited to no more than 5.1 whereas hdmi can deliver fully uncompressed 7.1 or dolby/dts HD, as well as dolby atmos. its rare in the pc gaming field due to the headphone craze but if you own a house without neighbors to annoy, having a 7.2.4 atmos setup is 2nd to none! (7 surround, 2 subs, 4 height speakers). your gpu can do this with zero drawback as the encoding is done by the receiver. i now use the onboard video to output the audio , if your cpu has onboard video you can do this. most games today support atmos to.

    • @rafenwulf
      @rafenwulf Рік тому

@@mainsource8030 True, optical has a limit compared to HDMI audio. For gaming 5.1 is totally enough for me. But an upgrade option for PC would be cool, just hadn't thought of using a DP to HDMI adaptor. An amplifier handling the HDMI switching and audio extraction instead of a separate HDMI splitter, apart from better audio, helps with cable clutter and extra steps in the switching. I bought the splitter mainly for the PS5, which does not have an SPDIF out, only HDMI, the splitter has SPDIF out and allows me to have 5.1 sound from my amp. Bit of a workaround, but it works! But an upgrade for PC audio is now an option as well, thanks for the tip 👍

I recently upgraded my primary display to the new Alienware ultrawide OLED and I'm just telling you guys.......there's no going back. Ever. The gaming experience is glorious, but if you work with ANY timeline based software (like a DAW or video editing app), the extra width is glorious. Color accuracy is superb as well. The ultrawide ratios are much more similar to our real-life field of vision, and once you get acclimated to using it, all other monitors just look kinda meh. I thought I had made some big upgrades to my rig in the past, but this one easily had the most impact. If you get one that is the same height as your previous monitors, you can easily make a dual-screen setup workable and look nice. You don't have to go "one screen only" just because it's ultrawide. You just need a little extra desk space.

I've had a CX48 for a couple of years now. It's holding up, no burn in yet. I do use it in a dim-ish office and I don't keep HDR on unless I'm actively using it. As others have said, I'm still shocked at how good it looks every time I sit down in front of it. If I was going to buy again right this second, it would be a much harder decision between this and a Samsung QD with no burn in HOWEVER... LG has been INCREDIBLE with their firmware updates related to PC use on their CX series TVs, and also the C1 etc... if they keep this up, I will stick with them because I have never seen so many firmware updates improving and adding features with any TV or monitor I've ever owned. It has been incredible.

I thought the 42" would be to large but it's fine about 7 feet away. Absolutely fantastic picture. You have to use one for awhile to appreciate what you were missing. Love it.

I've had an oled panel before (monitor I bought around 2 years ago) and had pixel shift on and I got burn in on my task bar area. I was really disappointed because I was told that pixel shift tech almost completely eliminates the possibility of burn-in.
Now that LED TVs and monitors are being constructed with a plethora amount of local dimming zones, it's starting to get closer and closer to OLED quality contrast while continuing to excessively out perform OLEDs in terms of peak brightness (which is a huge crutch with most OLED panels) which is a MAJOR factor in getting amazing HDR performance. My tv has so many local dimming zones that unless you go to the extreme sides of its viewing angle, you cannot tell where the local dimming zones are unless you have literally a black background and like, a ball of light going across the screen.

LCD aka. Liquid crystal screens work using one huge light source in the back and using a liquid crystal layer to bend the light into a red green or blue color which is sent through another layer (I think it’s called the rgb filter). The problem is it’s these is thet the huge light source in the back makes it impossible for a true black. There will always be light in each pixel
    *OLED SCREENS*
But OLED screens use molecule scale reactions on each pixel to produce a current with three different reactors for the rgb values which can then be sent through an rgb filter. Which essentially makes each pixel its own screen. Which means if a pixel receives a code from a microprocessor to produce pure black it can just turn off. Producing no light!

There's one potential downside to OLED's that Paul didn't mention. Depending on the panel, they can have an issue of "crushing" blacks. Basically because all the pixels can turn completely off to make a pure black image, some panels will turn off the pixels when there is actually picture information there, thus losing dark parts of the image. This is most common in scenes with dark shadows, for example.

I’ve never heard of this but I’m intrigued by it.
Usually monitors just receive RGB values per pixel and just blast it out on the screen. OLED’s simply power down the pixel if each of the RGB channels are set to zero. I’m really curious about what you’re describing because that would essentially mean is that the RGB values for certain pixels is non-zero (not perfectly black), yet the monitor is powering down those pixels anyway. To me that sounds like a defect either in hardware (pixels not able to power back up quickly enough after being shut down) or software (using different RGB values than what was sent over through the DP or HDMI cable). How widespread is this issue, and is it specific to any particular brand or model?

    • @bonanzabrandon6877

@@benjaminlynch9958 It's a real thing. TV reviewers have described this on OLED tv's for years since the TV panels have been around much longer than gaming oled monitors. I'm sure you see information about this if you do a google search.

I'm not sure what's sadder: The fact that that person watched the news until it got burn in, or the fact that he watched CNN news.

@@mrfo0l68social media gives all the news before the news stations and you can see both sides. Isreals angle and Palestines angle. The news will play you like a fool making you pick a side when there are sides. Only propaganda.

I have an AOC 144Hz, 27 inch monitor bought in 2015, which still works like day one. Show me, in the future, an OLED monitor which does not have burn in and I'll buy it. So far I know 3 people who bought OLED monitors and after 6 months will all their power saving, turn the image left and right to not stay on the same pixel and so on, had to return them due to burn in.

I managed to pick up a practically new Asus 42" OLED for $650 and my god is it amazing. I did expect some buyers remorse considering what I had was pretty good and it was still a lot of money but no regrets whatsoever

I waited to get a Nintendo switch until the next model came out. Next model turned out to be the OLED, so I pulled the trigger (my brother made me promise prior, wanting me to rejoin him on Pokémon, so hence the added reason to jump for it)
I absolutely love it, and when comparing it against my brother’s switch, seriously glad I waited. I play exclusively in handheld/small screen mode, so the OLED does a hell of a lot more for me.
Screen is a lot brighter without burning as much power (as far as I know, since my brother plugs in all the time, where as I can go 6-8 hours easy somehow.) colors seriously pop much more nicely compared to the normal switch screen.
Plus the larger kickstand and speakers are pretty nice lol. My brother was a bit jealous for a bit xD “bUt It DoEsN’t WoRk WhEn yOu pLuG iT iNtO tHe Tv!!” Well I don’t plug to tv ever so 😜 paying the extra 50 bucks was definitely worth it :)

I'm so glad I've been conditioned from using low ppi huge monitors to not notice blurry text because I don't notice the fringing on this qd-oled I just got at all.

lg g1 65 by about 2 years as main monitor, still perfect. I would never change oled to go back to old techs. When/if it will burn in i will buy the g2

the thing about brightness is something to consider, spend the extra money if you are going to have your oled display in a bright room. we got an LG B2, it looks absolutely amazing in our living room.
Pixel-shift is neat, had no idea it was on by default on our TV so not worries about burn-in are pretty much non-existant

I changed my 2 - 27 inch monitor LED set up to a single 42 inch OLED and I couldn’t be happier. The OLED picture is vastly superior in every single way to regular LED. I disable the auto dimming which certainly helps with desktop use, and while you do notice the pixel shift it’s honestly so minimal and you get used to it.

The subpixel layout issue is an early adopter tax, similar to buying new GPUs and having to wait most of a year to actually get the performance you're paying for. So... wait for the sales volume to go up, for the prices to come down, and for the software ecosystem to catch up.

The test that Rtings did with the six panel displays still holds true today. I haven’t got burn in since I bought my LG CX and have close to UTT 15k hours plus with varied content mostly gaming actually. 😁
