(Mark 12:29-31) And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, HEAR, O ISRAEL The Lord "OUR" God is one Lord And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment and the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy NEIGHBOUR as thyself. On Adam and Eve dying, consider if someone said "Don't eat that, it'll kill you." And the other person eats it and immediately becomes sick, then dies a few hours later. Would anyone question that eating the thing killed them?
When you go from immortal to mortal, even if it takes a millennium to die, that's still dying in moments compared to never dying.
A great point on the...Envy people seem to feel and show for those who they think "lesser" receiving a blessing. Rather than rejoice and praise the lord, we often become angry, jealous or envious. You can see this especially in the argument of "Faith alone". GOD's chosen people look down at those grafted on. Those who trace their church back to the first look down on those who founded new churches. Those of new churches may look down on newer converts, and so forth.
People feel the new recipient of the blessing hasn't "earned" it, when it's a gift GOD god gives and can choose who receives. HIS will.

It does give an answer as to why Ables was accepted and Kane's isn't. It's because Able brought "the best" of his flock. Kane didn't bring the best and instead wanted to keep the best of his offering.

@@stormy7745 indeed it does not detract from it at all. But a lot of people say they don't understand why the Most High didn't accept Kane's offering but it's pretty plain in the text I think. The SDA Church (whom I love btw not that I am SDA but they have a lot of good teachings) teach that it's because Ables was a sacrifice and Kane's was an offering but that simply isn't the case. Sacrifices and offerings are both accepted by the Most High but they need to be the best of whatever you have. Just like Messiah is superior to bulls and goats because he was indeed the best offering of anything that could have been offered. Thanks for the reply and May the Most High shine his face upon you!

They do mention this as well - that Abel's was the firstfruits/firstborn of his labor, so in some ways it was worth more. But, I do think it's important to note that Cain's sin wasn't necessarily that his offering wasn't good enough. We're not told what Cain gave was BAD or UNACCEPTABLE, right? We just perceive that he expected to receive more praise than he did, in relation to Abel. And Tim's point is that Cain perhaps believed this because he was used to that privilege - as the firstborn.
So from this perspective, perhaps getting stuck on the "best offering" aspect maybe DOES detract from the theme. The focus is not on the offering or its quality, but on Cain's response to not getting the praise and favor he expected from it. He thought he deserved something because he did something nice "for God" or maybe because just because he was the oldest. But the truth is that the whole point is that God isn't "fair". He doesn't give what Cain is "owed" as the firstborn. And God is perfectly justified as Lord to do so. He could have chosen to favor Abel even though Cain gave a better offering, and he'd still be justified!
Overfocusing on whether Cain could have "earned" that favor with a better offering is besides the point. It's not about what Cain could have done. It's about what God does - and whether and how Cain (and all humans) choose to respond to that.

The favoring of the later sons seems to also indicate some sort of prioritization of the future. The kingdom can not progress if humans are not constantly pushing towards righting the wrong that we’ve brought into the world. Thus the role of the first son in human terms is often a conservation of old edicts and traditions even when they do not glorify God. The first born has to continue the family business and tradition but the second sons are often free to pursue their own calling this God blessed them to bring needed change

You guys did and absolutely great job of explaining the book of Genesis. You all explained the most mysterious passages and gave them a biblical based conclusion. Fantastic job Bible Project. You all are the best.✝️📖🙏🏻
By reading the context of the scriptures we find out that Cain and Abel had a brother named Seth, but we know from Genesis 5:3,4 that Adam also had daughters. No where does it say that Seth was third child. So sisters could have been born between the death of Abel and the birth of Seth.
So they had a large family.
At Genesis 5:3 we read that Adam became father to another son named Seth and then, in the following verse, we read: “He became father to sons and daughters.” (Genesis 5:4)
Remember that Cain was worried some of his family would try to avenge Abel’s death?
Conclusion: One of Adam’s sons was Cain, and one of Adam’s daughters must have become Cain’s wife.
At that early stage of human history, when mankind was so close to perfection, such a marriage did not pose the risks for the children of the union that it would today. It wasn’t until the Mosaic Law 2500 years later that God prohibited marriage between close family members.

    00:27 Well Cain...
    1. You grew crops during an era when the land "would only give thorns and thistles." Something that would continue until after the Flood of Noah.
    2. Abel gave his best. The Bible doesn't state the overall "quality" of your sacrifice.
    3. (I personally disagree with this since Israel could later use plants as a sin forgiveness offering, but it still works in a sense due to 1.) You needed blood for forgiveness. A theme that continued up to Christ's final sacrifice.

    • @Cyrribrae
      @Cyrribrae Рік тому +2

That's how I've always been taught it, but I think Tim and Jon's take is pretty compelling too. This story is not about the offering at all. Or at least, like you said, it is not dwelt upon in the text. It's not about what Cain could or should have done to "earn" God's blessing. We can't earn God's favor, right? God gives it to us freely as he chooses. Rather, Cain's sin is in his response to God favoring his brother. He takes personal offense as though he is OWED better by God (whether because he thinks his offering is great or because he's the oldest or whatever). But he's not. And he can't handle that.
I fear that focusing too much on the "quality" of the sacrifice gets us into that same trap, where we think we're OWED something by God because we've been such good Christians and done so much for the Church or given so much money or whatever because of all of our good things... when the point is to trust that God will exalt us too, even if it sure doesn't feel like it right now because things around us seem so unfair... (Or at least, I believe the BP boys that this is an important aspect of the story - one that I've totally overlooked until now. Hm.)

I honestly think Noah may have just been thoroughly embarrassed and got prideful. Noah did slip up and get drunk and His Sons knew about it and Ham actually saw Him naked, and then He cursed the son of Ham, the innocent Canaan, because of his own evil deeds.
Noah became like the serpent, he took of the fruit in his Garden, and he took unworthily and he revealed His own shame. And as we do like the prideful serpent who had shamefully been cast down from his stature, he lashed out against someone in Pride.
I’ve seen this hypocrisy as a child and it’s very sad and disgusting, however no one is above it.

This has always been my interpretation of this very strange passage, but I'm pretty convinced of Tim's reading now, especially seeing how it relates to other passages. It turns it from being just a really strange story into something tragic but emblematic. THAT SAID, the whole walking backward with a sheet and covering something... I can't imagine what that would be (either literally or figuratively) under this interpretation. Trying to hide the evidence of Ham's abuse? But why is that rewarded? Unsure! Maybe I should check out this class haha.

@@Cyrribrae I’ve read that the word for “saw” in Gen 9:22 is raah while the phrase "uncovered" in Leviticus 20 is galah. The uncovered meaning to sleep with your father’s wife. I don’t think these are necessarily the same thing’s especially considering they walked in backwards.
But this does remind me of Adam trying to blame God and Eve after eating the fruit, and Sarai getting angry with Abram for Hagar looking down on her because of her infertility, after she told him to lay with her. What I’m getting at is the insecurity that comes with pride, and especially when such a person did something wrong.
I am interested in why Ham was in his fathers tent in the first place. But I find it a bit of a reach to suggest that this is the same as laying with his wife, where as with other times it’s quite clear.
But the direct Garden of Eden language of the fruit, the nakedness, the fact he got drunk or took the fruit in a way he shouldn’t have, and this revealed his shame, and then the blame game after a fall; sounds a lot like Adam.

Christ did not say it directly, He showed it, He lived it, He said it in other words. His kingdom is putting human's structure and way of thinking and traditions and beliefs and morals and mindset upside down. It has not just began in the times of Jesus, it has began from the beginning of the world. Adam and Even the concept of good and evil. The way of seeing envy in Cain and Abel is so different from how oyr nature sees it. The laws for Israel, the ten commandments. Jesus himself convicted the ways of the Pharisees. how dare you say He did not say His kingdom is different from how humans think of a kingdom. He said In his kingdom, the greatest is the one who serves the most.. The greatest is the greatest servant. The concept of Love, opposite to only giving gifts and speaking softly, but about not boasting, not seeking self. etc Even the Scripture says His thoughts are NOT our thoughts and his ways are not our ways. If you really observed the "world" and God's kingddom and you started to compare them, you would not say these things and see God is really flipping our "world".. From genesis through Apocalypse, God shows in different ways how He is different from us. We should not block our sight on the Gospel. Because God is Father, Spirit and son. And He is the same. yesterday, today and forever. God speaks and shows his upside down ways. sometimes He says it directly, sometimes we have to read between the lines. Do not limit God. Read His scripture with His eyes. ask the Holy Spirit to show you. His ways are not our ways.. Victory for Him is shown in death and humiliation on the cross. If THAT doesn not speak upside down mindset for you then what will...

I do not agree with the idea that Ham impregnated his mother, creating Canaan, he more likely humiliated his father with gossip, regarding his state of vulnerability. Regarding Lot, we must consider the trauma caused not only by the people of Sodom but by the death and destruction brought on to the city he lived in, thus his home, the death of all his neighbors, and his wife, and the situation he found himself in. His daughters too, where traumatized by the culture they lived in, and the current situation.

“The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor.” Genesis 4-5
The Lord’s favor rests on the person first and then his offering, even though many people focus only on the things that people do, hereby referring to the “offering”. I believe that the Lord gives the answer to this “puzzle”, when He says, “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?”, meaning you did not do the right thing, and what was why I did not give favor to you and your offering. If you did right, I would accept you and your offering. It is always about how a person responses and stands in his presence, but not the exact rule or thing to do that pleases him the most. The order matters here.
I also think that most people tend to think of God as a generous old grandpa, who cares for the poor and the lowly. He does. But it should not be the lens to look at the Lord. The genealogy from Adam throughout the Genesis, you will find that there are two kinds of human beings, the chosen one and the not. And this pattern goes on till the end of the Book, Revelation. Cain belongs to the not chosen one. I believe God says clearly here that even if he has an option, he is simply unable to do good, meaning listening to and obeying the Lord.
Besides, the offering of fat portions and the firstborn of Able’ flock is exactly what the Lord comments Israel to do in Leviticus, which leads to the presence of the Lord with his people and implies the later salvation by Jesus. Able knows the Lord by heart, but Cain does not.

The Lot daughters is a 🎁 from GOD the father to Lot. That's why he is passed out drunk he wouldn't do and makes him blamelesss.
Remember Lot is righteous and didn't do Adam his wife was taken and he had no sons, so GOD knowing all things provides.
The daughters under the father are blameless, so when they get him drunk he doesn't even know, so he is blameless they took him.
So GOD provides sons by the closes thing to his wife with his daughters.
The female is always in 4 offices mother sister wife daughter everyone of the. Eve is mother to all life before she has kids.
    Barren shall bear more.
Now see with GOD THE FATHER the first begotten is wisdom holy spirit FATHER TAKES as his daughter as his wife bride. Why? She is the only fit, when u think God u think wise. Always no matter what. Thus GOD only WISE.
Now see not perverted for the father who is one. .
As is said we find incest even among the righteous, thus lot and Abraham
Now see all husbands are fathers first. It's why u received the daughter from the father. To love her like a daughter first.
So she is always blameless. Hence Adam and the fall. Adam say her fault u gave her to me.
Won't do she is sheep man is shepherd.
Now see Judah and tamara she is more righteous than I.
Cause she is under the men blameless.
Thus lots wife pillar of salt.
Don't give salt away or no good to be saved. The females.
And I shall bear up the pillars says THE LORD.
Now see rev 2:20-22 and ps 45 all females go into Congregation the daughter of the King.
Thus then 1 father = all daughters go home blameless.
Thue lot's wife taken and to give him sons for doing righteous daughters are used. Lot blamelesss by crazy circumstances extreme lost wife town gone he shocked gets drunk asleep out daughter take they blamelesss cause lot is father.
So even among the righteous we find incest.
GOD THE FATHER sees all as family one. So all is incest if we judged but thank GOD HE IS for we curse kids toads.

Not biblical at all, Cain was cursed Genesis 4:12
    …A fugitive and a vagabond..”
the mark Cain received was simply to spare him from being killed by another human.
God had already confronted Cain in verse 4:6-7 and he did not heed God’s warning or repent therefore the extreme punishment and curse.
Stop pretending Cain could repent when he clearly committed his life to sin, knowingly and willing refused God and was even cursed as a result. Judgment may be harsh to some, but it is very biblical and even promised to those who reject God. The God of the Bible is not a man made God that sounds appealing to all, yes he is merciful and loving but he is also a judge and will judge our hearts and deeds accordingly.
    Also wrong…
verses 4:5 “But he did not respect Cains offering”
Baloney with God thinking or saying or conveying his offering was equally acceptable and that he just needed not to not be jealous of his brother receiving praise first. It states clearly Cains sacrifice was not respected. Genesis 4:5.
When God speaks to Cain after his bad sacrifice, God asks “why are you angry, just do it well and you will be accepted.” Reiterating he did not do it well the first time. There was 100% something wrong and different with Cains sacrifice! It was not just his jealousy that caused the issue.
Adam and Eve 100% died, as their lives ended due to their sin. They also spiritually died that day, they were cut off from physical and intimate contact with God that they had in the Garden… God NEVER changed what God had stated would happen.
Honestly, you guys should not be doing these videos, they are so far from accurate that even a baby Christian could point out errors.
God did not forgive Cain, no where is that in the Bible. Completely opposite.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that Cain "committed his LIFE to sin". He merely committed a sin in the moment.
God had to have forgiven him at some point because He decided to let Cain live merely cursed. He was not allowed to be killed and received a mark, a banner of His which I conclude to mean he still belongs to God.
I'm pretty sure Adam, Eve and Cain are reconciled with God through Jesus.

God cursed Cain, “A fugitive and a vagabond.” Definitely not a “banner Cain belonged to God” just like the mark of the beast is not a mark showing you belong to God.

God marks him not to be murdered and forbids anyone from murdering him by giving him an identifiable mark. Life in prison instead of the death penalty… ok…and? Mercy was shown since God is merciful… and?? Mercy and forgiveness are not the same.
Cain never once repented nor confessed anything to God. And again, God cursed him. Do you think God just curses everyone or perhaps men like Cain who were exceptionally wicked? Seriously, you think Cain was reconciled to God? where is that in scripture? One positive verse about Cain?
As far as other OT deaths, give me a name, I’m not going to give a general answer to such a question considering the Bible typically points to reconciliation or it doesn’t. Samson did some evil things and repented so no question there… so who are you referring to?
