From Adam to Noah, the Hebrew names form a few Hebrew sentences:

    2 Seth Appointed
    3. Enosh Mortal
    4. Kenan Sorrow
    5. Mahahlalel The blessed God

    7. Enoch Teaching
    8. Methuselah His death shall bring
    9. Lamech The despairing
    10. Noah Rest, comfort
If we stitch the word meanings together, it forms the following sentences:
    1. Man appointed mortal sorrow (The fall of man).
    2. The blessed God shall come down teaching (Torah given to Moses)
    3. His death shall bring the despairing rest and comfort (death of Jesus and fulfilment of Matt 11:28-29)

A couple of things to add to this video.
1: Christian Literalist dates align with Protestant and Catholic beliefs, because their Torah is basically sourced from the Masoretic (it's a bit more complicated than that, but for the purposes of this discussion it's true). However, the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches use the Septuagint (the Greek translation), which on average adds 100 years on the length of time between birth and birth of the child for each of the patriarchs (excluding Noah, Terah, and Abraham onwards). The Samaritans do a mix of the two, using what appear to be mostly Masoretic timelines from before the Flood and mostly Septuagint timelines for after the flood.
2: In the Septuagint Selah has a son named Cainan, and he is an interesting case study. He does not appear in the Masoretic or Samaritan Torah at all, and the earliest manuscripts of Luke omit him too. I'm not sure what made the Septuagint translators add Cainan on, though there might be a relation to the Book of Jubilees (apocryphal book considered canon to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church), which also has Cainan. Luke's mention is almost certainly either a scribal error (I believe on the older manuscripts there was a name that looked similar on the previous line of text, and the scribe might have accidentally copied his name twice) or was an overcorrect to align it closer to the Septuagint.
3: It's interesting that the Rabbis came to the conclusion that Exodus 12:40 originally read as "Egypt and Canaan", because that's what some non-denominational Christians have come to conclude using comparative analysis. The Septuagint, older copies of Josephus' body of work, and I believe the Samaritan all say "and Canaan" in those versions.
4: The Matthew genealogy of Jesus is potentially missing a name, because if you count the names for after the exile you only get 13. Now some think this gives credence to the theory that the Matthew genealogy is properly Mary's. The theory goes that Joseph son of Judah was originally the FATHER of Mary rather than her husband, citing the potential ambiguity of the Greek word used there which can mean both "man" and "father". Usually there's also claims of Matthew being originally authored in Hebrew, so there's potentially an element of mistranslation going on too. However, you could also just as easily say there's another ancestor mentioned there that a scribe missed. Both are possibilities worth considering.

To understand this read genesis, Mathew, and one book of the Bible you chose yourself. As you do this practice forgiveness. It's about what's in your heart, love Is the key. If there's love in your heart you forgive. The act proves the truth. To be forgiven we must forgive. Start with your parents, they've loved you, they're easiest. Look inside for the grievances we all build up there and Genuinely forgive from within. It teaches you something you can learn no other ways. You have to learn first hand by what this process does inside your soul. Please trust me. Break down before Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness today. It's not too late. God loves you. 11:33 He says Rehoboam reigned over Judah, but actually it was Judah and Benjamin.
14:33 He says that the Israelites dwelt in Egypt for 430 years. This is a common misconception from uncareful reading of the text. Galatians 3:17 "And this I say, [that] the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect." This makes it very clear that the 430 years started from when God made the covenant with Abraham, and Abraham split the animals in two, and then walked between them, to the time that the Israelites left Egypt (or perhaps even to the day they received the 10 Commandments, I don't know), was 430 years. That makes more sense too, because it was a Passover when they left, and a "Passover" when Abraham walked between the two halves of the sacrifice.
      .
I didn't bother watching the rest. Most of the video is good, but as I stated last month, there are some errors in this video. Creating doubt regarding the historical accuracy of any part of the Bible is actually serious error.

Thankyou Matt great work. I started my chart in 1970 when I was 23yrs old and agree so much with what you have done. Little point of interest when secular and biblical dates coincide I was used to calling that an ‘absolute’ date.
I worked on the year the Medes and Persians overthrew Babylon. The record of Nabonidus the father and coregent of Belshazzar made on a clay tablet states that event was Oct 5-6 539 B.C.E. according to the Gregorian calendar. So I was very close to you by getting Adams creation at 4026.

Yes, the creation of the first humans was a little over 6,000 years ago. Not the creation of the earth and galaxies, etc. The creation “days” were time periods, not 24 hour days. Especially since some of them took place before there was an earth to have 24 hour days. They may have been millions of years or more in length. But human history only extends back 6,000+ years. Note: 4,000 bce to 2,001 ce would be 6,000 years, as there was no year zero. It went from 1 bce to 1 ce. And 4,025 bce would be going back further than 4,000, so we already passed 6,000 years decades ago, contrary to erroneous comments above. Radiocarbon dating that disagrees with Biblical chronology is just wrong. It fails to take into consideration facts such as the great flood/deluge, and potentially how that altered the earth’s atmosphere by removing a water vapor canopy, allowing more uv rays to penetrate, altering growth rates, changes in the earth’s magnetic field allowing more cosmic rays to penetrate, changing the rate of carbon-14 formation and accumulation, and the apparent ages of creatures from before then compared to after. Don’t be intimidated by ridiculers.

Random little personal story: I actually had an ancestor named Zimri. My 5th (? Maybe 4th? I forget) great grandfather. I wonder why anyone would name their kid after a failed, hated king who was so stubborn and greedy for power that he literally went down in flames.
Maybe it was that thing where parents name their child after someone they DON'T want their kid to be like? Maybe that was common in Appalachia? (That's where they lived) I'm not sure 🤷‍♀️😂
Maybe they just simply opened The Bible randomly and looked for a name, saw Zimri, and decided it was meant to be.
I'm not sure what kind of man he was. There's not a lot of info on him. Except that he was a Union Civil War vet with Kidney Disease (info from his pension paperwork/record).

One thing that I still don't understand is why we switched from BC/AD to BCE/CE, because the dates stayed the same and even with the name change, they still center around the life of Christ. Not sure how this would work into a future useful chart, but I'd be interested to see if that discussion could be made into an infographic.

I once heard it was because the actual year of Jesus' birth is unknown, but most likely 6 BCE to 1 CE. I use BCE and CE here because it doesn't make any sense to say Jesus was born up to 6 years Before Christ. It's really only when you try to date Jesus' birth that it's an issue, which I don't personally think warrants a change.

BC/AD and BCE/CE are two different systems of numbering years, both of which are used to label or number years in the Gregorian calendar. The primary difference lies in their religious or cultural connotations.
      BC/AD (Before Christ/Anno Domini):
BC stands for "Before Christ," and it counts the years before the traditional date of the birth of Jesus Christ.
AD stands for "Anno Domini," which is Latin for "In the Year of Our Lord." It counts the years after the traditional date of the birth of Jesus Christ.
      BCE/CE (Before Common Era/Common Era):
BCE stands for "Before Common Era," and it is equivalent to BC. It counts the years before the common era.
CE stands for "Common Era," and it is equivalent to AD. It counts the years in the common era.
The switch from BC/AD to BCE/CE is largely a matter of cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. The traditional BC/AD system is explicitly tied to Christian religious beliefs, and it can be perceived by some as exclusionary to non-Christian individuals and cultures. As a result, the BCE/CE notation is often preferred by some in academic and intercultural contexts as a more neutral and inclusive way to denote years without relying on religious terminology.
The use of BCE/CE is not a rejection of the Gregorian calendar or its historical basis but rather a way to make the dating system more universally acceptable in diverse cultural and religious settings. It is important to note that both systems use the same calendar and count the years in the same way; the only difference is in the terminology used to label the eras.

This sparked a memory from my 8th grade creation science class that I took in part as a favor to the woman teaching it. (I was homeschooled, though not for religious reasons.) In the book the class used, they presented a "scientific" reason for the Biblical men living so long: an oxygenated atmosphere. The idea was that at the beginning of creation, there was a lot of oxygen, so people were super healthy. After the Flood, however, a good chunk of that oxygen was moved into the Earth's water, thus rendering humanity's lifespan to the shorter length it is today.
This video was really cool! I always had trouble following the names in the Bible, especially the Old Testament. Now I may not be able to keep track of all of them, but I at least have some visualization of their passage through history. I didn't know that the one king of Judah was pictured!

Also it never rained, water didn't fall from the sky but came up through the ground. So crops were watered by underground aquifers. That's why everyone thought Noah was crazy because water didn't fall from the sky. Also the climate would have been consistent throughout the year. With an oxygenated atmosphere and no hills or mountains temperatures and weather patterns would be the same from day to day.

This is pretty cool. I’ve spent the last 10 years building something similar to this in excel as a timeline. One suggestion I’d give is get “The Coming Prince” by Sir Robert Anderson. As far as the back tracking of your dates there are some chances you’ll end up making. For instance 1 King 480 years is actually going to turn out to be 570 years when referenced in acts. If you take the years they were under servitude in the book of judges out of the 570 then you get 480. Also the 430 years in Egypt isn’t 430 years IN Egypt. It’s 430 years from the moment Abraham was given the command to depart his land. Only 3 generations are in Egypt as well and you can’t get 430 years for only 3 generations. Fun things that we can always dig and dig and dig into. And most people skip the genealogies. Haha.

Not to be forceful with suggestions, but here are a few more you can consider if you'd like:
There are a few key women in the Bible that are probably also worth a mention. Namely:
      - Hannah (Samuel's Mother, known for earnestly asking God for a son) and husband Elkanah.
      - Miriam (Sister of Moses, Prophetess who helped in leading the Exodus).
      - Naomi (Mother in law of Ruth, mentor to Ruth) and her family (though admittedly that might be a bit harder to fit in...)
      - I think Ezra is a descendant of Seraiah (last high priest) - Ezra 7:1
      - Is Hoshea in the prophets line meant to be Hosea? (no 'H')
      - The last king of Judah was Zedekiah, not Zechariah.
      - Unlike Elisha under Elijah, Amos wasn't really tutored under Elisha or anything. Nor Hosea. Not sure if the arrows are a bit misleading considering how they are used everywhere else on the chart.
      - Any reason for not showing all the other minor prophets? Just not enough room? If so, fair enough, but why only show Amos and Hosea? Is it because they have clearer positions in the timeline or something?
      - Is the prophet Zephaniah worth mentioning, considering he's a descendant of Hezekiah and is thus actually tied more closely to the family tree? And also Mordecai, cousin of Esther, considering he's a notable character in the Bible? (Perhaps don't need to show Esther's father, just a line to Mordecai with the word "cousin" above)
Anyway, again, I don't want to be forceful with my suggestions or questions. I love trying to understand the process involved in making charts, specifically in deciding what to include and not include. I think you've done a wonderful job with this chart thus far, and I especially love the inclusion of all the nearby kings and rulers and the relevant Bible verses put next to them! :)

There is absolutely NO evidence for the apologetics spin at all. If you are a literalist, it is impossible for an author to have used Joseph's name for Mary - and the explanation that "it was the time, they couldn't use a female's name, etc." is belied by other women being mentioned in various lineages and by the simple reality that if you are talking about a book literally penned by almighty god, using human instruments - GOD can put anything he wants in his book and who is going to stop Him? No, the Bible isn't literal and the two authors recorded a different lineage, remembering too that NONE of the gospels were written by the men whose names are ascribed to them.

Because the writers screwed up, or they heard the stories differently before they wrote them down themselves. Don't forget that the printing press was not invented until the 15th century and all works before then were handed down by word of mouth and/or copied by hand for many many centuries. This is also why stories that Mark, Matthew and Luke tell that are the same, differ in slight and not so slight ways. If they were truly inspired by an omnipotent being they would be exactly the same.
Adam and Eve definitely did not have enough children (especially girls) to account for all the humans in the world. Cain met his wife in another town and "knew" her, but there is no explanation for where she came from. If she was one of Adam and Eve's daughters then surely she would have been named.
