    I need a car, it will either be a 2011 Mustang GT, or a 2006 corvette C6. both cost $15,000 and i will use it as a daily driver.

      @@fantomg100 here we are years later and an 06-07 vette is easily obtainable for $15k with under 100k miles. In fact you can get decent 08+ ls3 cars for $15-18k if you're patient enough! Meanwhile the terminators have gone up in value (not a bad thing) but for performance aspect the vette is a superior option 😁

    Some of you guys down there on the comments, comparing the gt500 vs a base model vette, change it up a bit?? Of course gt500 is going t smash a base model. Well kind of. I mean that gt500 was struggling against an almost base model vette. It'd definitely struggle against the zo6 and I don't think it would have a chance against the zr1.

    • @Injectedracing

    I'm a mustang guy, & my friend has a Shelby GT-500. It's heavy (4100lbs) & you feel the lag from that. The 500+hp Supercharged 5.4L provides nice rip through the gears. However, my Honda Shadow 750 & GSX-R 750 are easily able to take it on the 1/4m. Its NOT a race-track car. Just too heavy. A GT-500 is a retro influenced modern muscle car.
    BUT the C6 Corvette line (GS, Z06) competes easily with cars worth $250,000-$500,000 or more. It's America's finest and a SPORT CAR!
    Not a good comparison.

    I totally agree! Although in older model vettes (C2 - C4) the U joints weren't the toughest you could get. My uncle nearly died due to U joint failure. He was going down the highway when the U joint broke then his right wheel locked up and he crashed into a ditch I've heard plenty of other similar stories, Anyway I own a 1980 corvette and the first thing I did was buy a pair of heavy duty U-joints.

    That is why I want one. C&D tested the 08 C6 Convertible Auto and it ran 12.4 @ 116 mph. There is a guy on here with an 08 auto that runs consistent 12.30s @ just under 118 mph. That is moving for a stock car. The 6 speed auto is a 6L80 rated for some serious hp with a 4.02 1st gear. Stock 08+ LS3s dyno 380s/390s (auto/man). With a Cam, they run high 10s.

    @Janusha Yeah I had heard that about the Veyron, but hadn't read it anywhere. I would assume most car companies that don't specialize in super cars would loose money depending on how popular their super car becomes. Because then they are competing with established companies like Ferrari or Lamborghini. I wonder if the SSC Ultimate Aero will do really well.

    @HelimanZ06 you are absolutly right and not only did they add the new sport cup tires to the z06 and zr1, but they did more aerodymaics tuning, rear spoiler, and better pistons pumping out a little more hp (around 7hp) making them (especially the zr1) the ultimate supercar, especially for the price. They have better times now faster acceleration and top speed and are the best!

    @STANGFAN81 That GT500 VIR time was run by ford engineers on none stock tires, still a good time though. Car and Driver could only get 3:04 in the 2011 GT500 (same as cts-v) but got 2:58.8 in the GS corvette. The GT500 has the power to weight ratio advantage (GT500 = 6.9 lbs/hp, the GS =7.6lbs/hp), that is a huge difference. That Z06 time was from 2005, the Z is 5secs faster now. @Janusha Ford had initially intended to build 4500 of them, and ended up falling short at 4038 probably as you say a result of money issues. Not just US performance cars loose money with each sale either, as apparently either the Zeno or the LFA (can't remember which one) also costs more to build than they make off of it. But yeah you are right, the GT was probably built to draw people to Ford. Beautiful car though.

  • @mtooshort20
    @mtooshort20 15 років тому

    Ford has a habit of utilizing lower compression ratios than most other brands do. For example, the 4.6L V8 in the mustang GT has a ratio of 9.8:1 while any of the LS series motors from GM run at least 10.1:1, with the 7.0L LS7 running 11.5:1 i believe. Compression ratio has a lot to do with power output, just as much as air and fuel amounts.

    I'm actually kind of odd because I have followed both Ford and GM products for over 20 years. I raced a 10 second Turbocharged 99 GT auto for years, but also owned and built an 87 Grand National. I love the sound of Mustangs and nothing compares IMO. My next car will be an 08 C6 though. I think Ford competes with the Camaro very well and always has, but it has never had an answer for the all around performance of the Corvette.

  • @mtooshort20
    @mtooshort20 15 років тому

    55k-60k, either way, the Z06 is 75K, so u still save anywhere from 15k-20k off the Z06's price. In the Z06, what ur paying for is the amazing LS7 motor and the aluminum and alumintium shell and frame, and of course the big 6 piston brakes, wider tires, beefer tranny, etc., so the price makes since if u think about it. If you go on GM Performance site and look at the Crate motors, the LS7 motor alone is 13-15k and its hand-built, just like the LS9 in the ZR1, so the price makes since.

    i agree with you there. the mustang is kinda old school with that live rear axle, but i could care less. and honestly, i'd probably just get a regular gt and do the mods myself. i like doing that anyways. and although the corvette is a more balanced car, i'd still prefer the rawness of the mustang. and even with all the weight, it's still lighter than the challenger srt8(which i also love lol)

    when it comes to performance, chevy is still the best. ford doesn't have anything that can touch a vette. this wasn't even a z06 and it still beat the gt500 in every category except ride comfort and interior design, but those are irrelevant in performance cars. it also had a 100hp disadvantage against the ford. the vette is just so much more agile and takes those turns with an almost graceful motion. compared to the vette, the gt500 looked like an obese man trying to compete in the olympics...

    @cjm04 why is it a waist? I mean they are both muscle cars right? They both fall in the same price category right? The GT500 has an advantage of more than 100HP right? They already compared the GT500 to the camaro and challenger, but then everyone was saying why compare a car with a supercharger and a 100HP advantage with the other two. The GT500 is in a class all by itself. Its too slow to contend with the vette, and up, and too fast to contend with the challenger down..

    @STANGFAN81 yea but thats the base powertrain z06 and zr1 are still there remember that, but yes the gt500 is still a nice car

    I have seen both in person and would take the C6 GS anyday. Just as fast and much quicker without the whine of a SC. Also the LS3 gets better mpg while doing all of its damage on turns or going straight. I love the looks of both though. The Vette is just the better all around performer hands down and cruises far on long highway trips.

    I LOVE the look of the challenger but like you said its way too heavy and i dont like the fact that you have to pay extra for a stick shift tranny.
    isnt the challenger like 4100 pounds? thats a little lighter than my 04 ram quad cab (its a hemi,BOY!!!!). i would wait till the next model year comes out and the price goes down on the shelby and nab it then.
    but thats me...im weird.

    I agree with you that it's over priced. Though i wouldn't say the GT500 is garbage. Costing 10 grand less and having bigger back seats and trunk, i think the Shelby held its own. Of course it could be lighter, and should have independent suspension. However 540hp for a well put together car with quality materials and amazing supercharger noise, makes it great bang for buck. And isn't the Z06 around the same price? I'm not sure if it is or not.

    The performance of the Cayman S approaches that of Porsche's flagship sports car, the 911 Carrera. Rally legend Walter Röhrl lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife track in a Cayman S equipped with optional 19" wheels, PCCB, and PASM in a time of 8 minutes, 11 seconds. The time for a standard Cayman S, as published by the manufacturer, was 8 minutes, 20 seconds. In contrast, Röhrl recorded 8 minutes, 15 seconds in a 911 Carrera.

    @IxOVERKILLxI lol, i must thank you, your comment was very uplifting. it's great to finally hear from someone who knows some facts about cars rather than ignorant children who think they know it all when in reality they know absolutely nothing about them. what most people fail to realize, or at least don't want to admit, is that the GM LS Series engines are among the greatest v8s being produced. there is not one ford engine that can even compare to greatness of the LS. they can take any beating.

    @scarface115 dont worry, btw the gt has a hard time getting away from the z06 let alone the zr1, gt was exotic, cost 250 grand when they came out(i knew a guy that had one) and 150 used, but dont worry some kids dont know what they are talking about

    @braveheart4lif31 Mid mounted can have an advantage if done right in theory. Easier to obtain 50/50 with lower center weight but thats was not the case in late 05 when the Z06 came out. Thats why everyone went back to the drawing board after the Z06 debut. For the example the SE gallardo was 43/57 when the near 50/50 Z06 came out. Wheel base, height, overall lenght and width are factors too. The Z06 49' vs 49.5 for the SE. Theres alot more to balance than just a "mid engine". Facts
