Finally! A reviewer who "gets" the M suspension setup in the Z4M and doesn't rave about it being too hard. It does what a sports car should do, handle brilliantly. M Division aren't stupid. They set this car up for spirited open road driving, not cruising the rough city streets.
It is not a great suspension, it is also a rather „safe“ setup. Especially if you experienced a good setup with a K&W v3 or something similar. The steering becomes more precise and the car feels more planted as well as comfortable.
@@f1jones544 the some cars you're talking about don't have a chassis that stiff and don't handle as good unless were talking some kind of magnetic suspension. The z4m coupe is 6-8 seconds faster around the Nuremberg ring than a e46 m3. This says a lot.
@Heidelaffe my buddy has one that has suspension and brake work done and I gotta say it's a ton of fun to drive. I'm thinking of replicating it, and adding a supercharger. That would be the best bang for the buck.
Same. Currently own a 981S and love it. Never craved a corvette but can’t deny that straight line power. But I value the track experience and handling over enormous horsepower. I was excited to try the new mid engine corvette but I’m a big dude and the cabin was too small. They need to redo that ridiculous center console that takes up so much room in the cabin.

I fell in love with the stingray at the ripe old oge of 6, but then our dad brought home a 911, and I completeforgot about the stingray. I'd been pining for a Porsche ever since, but today is a brand new day, and I am seriously reconsidering my abandonment of the corvette lineup. The Z06 seems to be stirring up quite a buzz these days. I've maintained a longstanding fear of the stigma that comes along with an aging corvette owner, envisioning myself looking something akin to Stanley in the movie Friday. Then, I caught my reflection on a window on my way to work one morning, and realized it's already happened. Pink polo, mocassins, khaki shorts...FML. Hold my N/A beer!
The C6 Z06 set great track times when it was released and still competes today. Just look at the Top Gear lap board and what it beat. It ran 7:22’s at the Ring in its day. Put seats and r compounds on it like today’s cars and the game changes. The comments about lack of track ability are bizarre. The leaf spring comments discredited the entire review. It’s not a finesse car, but it wins races. The other cars are newbie driver friendly and make you feel fast. Feeling fast doesn’t win races.
It's 2024 and people are still detracting Corvettes for having "leaf springs" in name only. If only they understood that a composite, transverse leaf is closer to a flexure joint on an F1 car than the suspension from a pickup truck.
The M Coupe is special. Revs to 8k, looks like a classic sports car bangleified, and is pretty rare. Been driving mine for 10 years and still love it so much.
I had the 3.0si version and absolutely loved it as a daily driver. Also, was remarkably reliable and I loved that it basically didn't have any electronics or screens that quickly look outdated
WTF are you talking, dude?? A car should be that "pristine". It's totally NORMAL. Here in Germany cars usually have a clean interior. What's the matter with Americans, who are literally shitting in their cars...? Little piggies.....
leaf springs? No, single transverse composite spring front and rear, this allows lowering the car with a socket and ratchet, also works like a large sway bar and reduces vehicle weight and unsprung weight. Genius actually.
It really is. I love the transverse spring double-wishbone setup. On the higher-speed tracks, I can dial in more rake for stability in like 3 minutes. It's nothing like the leaf springs on a pickup.
Imagine thinking a steel coil spring is top tier technology. A transverse composite leaf is much more sophisticated than a fucking spring... it boggles my mind every time someone says it
As a current BMW owner, and former Corvette owner, I can not overemphasize how important the tires are to the Corvette. I had a C5 Vette with stock runflats and about 20k miles on the odometer, and they were terrible, the car slipped and slided all over the place. For a time I believed all the people that trashed Corvettes for not being able to turn, and in the rain the thing was nearly undriveable. Then, one day, I decided to get some new tires, even though the stock ones still looked brand new. I got the best summer tires you could buy at the time - and it was a totally new car. The car suddenly had remarkable cornering ability, in the rain it just stuck to the road - it was truly an amazing difference. Having owned several BMW 4-series now, two optioned out with the M-sport package, etc - I can say the BMW handles better and is much more precise - but in terms of raw cornering ability, the Corvette would likely come out on top. It's really a different feeling, just depends on what you like - the BMW is much more surgical, in traffic I like in traffic how the car just does whatever you want and is exactly where you want it. The Corvette, meanwhile, was much more fun, but required more attention for sure. I will certainly agree that BMW has much better interiors, much better leather, etc. The Corvette meanwhile is competing at a much lower price for the amount of engine you're getting.
@@johnfurey3593 I'm aware, I've test drove one. I was talking about precision vs raw cornering ability. Also the C6 handled better than the C5. I was talking more in generalities - but I'm sure you've put tens of thousands of miles on each as well, right, so you speak from experience. Oh wait.
As a C6 Z06 owner, I completely agree with you. Going from the stock Goodyear runflats to non-runflat PS4s was night and day. GM made terrible choice for OEM tires.
I'd be surprised if a Corvette didn't handle better than a 4 Series, given that the 4 Series is based off a fairly flat sedan, they're not really set up for sporty driving these days.
@@TheJohn8765 Not the same leaf springs you'd see on a truck with solid axles, John. Y'all just love to rag about “muh leaf springs” without actually taking a look at what's in there.
I recently picked up a 2007 BMW M Coupe with 38k miles. It's so much fun to drive. Very different than my e46 m3, despite sharing many parts. It is very much the spiritual predecessor to the current generation Supra. If you see one in good condition snatch it up. You won't be sorry.
I own a C6 Z and also looked at the Porsche among other cars when i bought my Vette back in 2012. I think you guys are being a little harsh on the Vette. The floorboard is actually carbon fiber, but some balsa wood is used in between the carbon layers to keep weight down. The leaf spring design is also not what many people think. Its a single transverse mounted composite leaf spring that was used to get rid of un-sprung weight and keep the center of gravity lower. People often think these design elements were cost cutting measures, but they in fact are the opposite. They were more expensive design elements incorporated for the sake of performance.
Leaf springs and turning just don’t match. We now cus there’s plenty of examples of this car spinning out on line going back years. Soooo like I’m sure you can get used to this Benton most roads, but like example, where I live above Napa the roads are full of crest over turns that cause traction moments a vette couldn’t handle well. I want to know the car and I can dance through turns. Cus there’s trees and cliffs if you fuck it up round here. Great car just not a good fit if you like tight turns that have fun uneven crest over tight turns.
Lol. You drank the Kool aide. No one uses leaf springs because they are inferior. Not advanced. Not a single Corvette race car retains it's leaf suspension.
The z06 did run a 7:22 at nurburg.. which is still faster than most high end / supercars today. They are a super good auto cross car too The car has a lot of carbon fiber built throughout it
The C6 ZR1 is my dream vette. Legitimately cool. The code name for the project was blue devil! It was the only car I could think of competing with super cars and OUT COMPETING THEM Inna straight linen
@@richardmorris7063Just get a C6 face-lift base model. It'd still be over 400hp/tq and a great manual, plus they're mid 20k all day. Likely to be my next car.
The Corvette blows both of those other cars away. But you’re not finding a C6 Z06 for $30K unless it’s a shit box. $40K is now the minimum for a really nice car.
Balsa wood served the RAF just fine in WW2. Also theres a big difference between truck leaf springs and the corvettes transverse composite leaf springs, which were developed over generations since the C2 corvette. Lap times showed the C6 Z06 and ZR1 to be world beaters. They're also phenomenal drivers cars.
Truck and oxcart leaf spring suspension have nothing in common with the C6's double wishbone suspension that used composite leaf springs for packaging. Balsa wood is used in a sandwich of two pieces of fiberglass (carbon fiber in the C7) because that combination is light, strong, and gave it the desired characteristics.
I have both a 987.2 Cayman S and a Z4M, though that's a roadster. Very different experiences. They Cayman feels like it just plugs into my brain and the car disappears. The Z4M, on the other hand, makes me very aware that I am operating a wonderful machine.
Ive had both as well, this is pretty accurate. The Z4 M has a lot more personality, but the Porsche should objectively be better. Im curious if just gearing the cayman lower would close the experience gap more.
Watching this video hurts me. My 987.2 cayman s got totaled when a lady just merged into my lane and crunched the front right fender. Sadly at the time it was not worth what they are now. Damn I miss that car
I envy you, you get a new Skoda in India for 30k $ US, I don't care how expensive it is to maintain, I would buy a 718 or 911 if sold even close to 80k$ in the used market
OK Gentlemen, that was a fun review. I have owned 8 Corvettes from a 1964 i bought in 1966 365 HP 4 speed that at 140 felt like an poor airplane. To my my current 2014 Z51. And was able to drive a nice M3 and a 911 Carrera over the years. Your bare bones assessment is right. BUT, we here in American have been unshackled from drive what you bought. We change our cars. We have a community of aftermarket parts to help our factory products. And we are not so afraid of getting greasy fingernails to dig in and make the changes ourselves. So like a 64 i owned had 468 Cu In Blown Big Block that could cover the quarter mile in under 10 seconds. Or the 81 I owned with a Vortech Supercharger, 4 speed OD Auto and AC with CD changer beat everything and got 25 MPG highway. The 98 LS1 with 140,000 miles stick, 3.73 gear and intercooled Supercharger had 525HP yes it would NOT turn nicely. But you laugh at the Z06, My 2007 White Z06 was a dream. It had the power but it needed better Shocks, so added QA1 adjustable shocks and retuned the engine for more low end torque and it was a beast, that would lose traction in 3rd gear. It required full attention to make good turns, But frankly America is so big we can go straight for thousands of miles. Now take either of your three cars to a shop and price out routine maintenance. One thing I learned to do was get the oil analyzed. In my 2007 Z06, we had a few PPMs of titanium on the first oil change. At 20,000 miles I had hundreds of PPM Titanium. I paid to have the heads pulled and took the heads to GM and they spent $7,000 replacing them. Yes the guide were made wrong but GM fixed it and the car lived without eating any valves. Its true what you say about Corvette and roll your eyes interior, turning, etc. But, we can change it easily, we can afford the potential and in the end we can configure what we want. You would not want to pay for a new engine in any of the 3 cars you tested. But, like my 98 I pulled the engine, rebuilt it, supercharged it, upgraded the clutch and rear end, added Oil coolers and better shocks in my 2 car garage by myself without selling my wife or getting a second mortgage. I wonder the ratio of GM to Porsche to BMW in Australia??
As a former BMW Z4 M Coupe owner, I cannot agree more wholeheartedly. One thing the car benefited greatly from was a switch to more updated, progressive tires. Michelin PS4's transform this cars sometimes spiky oversteery tendencies into beautiful, manageable drifts. Mine also had an S54 CSL carbon airbox and ram air grille ducts, which brought a more guttural intake bark to counter the sometimes "chain saw" rip of the S54 exhaust. Gosh I miss that car.
I was concerned about the valve problems so I did some research. The consensus is this: buy a pair of aftermarket cylinder heads for $2000 and forget about it. I couldn’t believe you could replace two cylinder heads for that money. So cheap! I paid $3000 for a single new cylinder head on my ancient 4-cylinder Alfa! Naturally, in addition to solving the valve problems, aftermarket heads will get you more power too, as if the LS7 needs it. 😀

I had this exact model Z06 and I couldn't disagree with you more about the handling. I had the car at Blackhawk pulling 1.12 G in the corners passing everything. It's among the best of the cars I've ever had.
I own the first Z4MC registered to a consumer in Canada. June 30th, 2006. Got it off a rail car. Many modifications but still have all the original parts. Still puts a smile on my face. Looked at getting a Cayman S but frankly you don't get taken seriously in a Porsche Dealership wearing jeans and a ball cap. The Car in your video has some subtle modifications including a Strut Tower Brace (completely unnecessary in this car but looks cool), a rear carbon spoiler and a shorter weighted ZHP shift knob from what I can see. Yes the drink holders suck. Thanks for the great video; appreciate it and subscribed.
It's wild how many younger video creators are getting C6s these days. Ten or so years ago I read that used C6s were hard to find (at used car prices) because the Corvette was the dream car for many people who were young back in the 70s but a new 'Vette was a bit out of reach financially, so in the late 2000s when those people were retiring they decided to live out their dreams and get a new C6. What they didn't realize was that in their younger days automakers weren't exactly truthful about the power their cars were putting out, so they thought 1970s 400HP was the same as 2000s 400HP. They quickly discovered that a new C6 was brutally fast compared to what they thought they were getting, so not wanting to end up in a hospital kept the C6 in the garage. Now - for reasons I don't care to guess at - these cars are finally being re-sold in terrific condition and with low miles. I'm not even a Corvette guy but I love that these cars which were mostly not being driven are now getting a second chance with younger people who really enjoy them.
The Z06 can corner just fine. The carbon fiber traverse leaf springs aren’t exactly the same thing as you find on trucks. You’re just being let down by the seats not holding you in place as snug as you’d like. From what I could find online, max cornering g’s: Z06 1.16 Cayman 1.06 Z4M Coupe .89
Right. Kinda disappointing how they explained it. It sounded like a Euro-biased video from Top Gear 2010. The leaf springs are more like a crossbow than a truck leaf springs. On a major track the zo6 is the much superior car with the right driver. I agree they aren't as easy to handle as the other two here but it does come out on top on the track.
@@DigitalSubsetYeah bro everyone who was growing up at the time in the US remembers the z06's track time at the Ring. It was keeping pace with 997 GT3s with the proper setup (ie tires/pads/alignment). Just like the ZR1 video I find this highly biased against American cars. The C5 Z06 (C5.R was snacking on German cars on the international racing scene). It was already a world beater, and this was the sequel. Transverse composite leaf springs, titanium valves, composite panels. About 3100-3200lbs with 505hp and 7000k rpm redline. Then they talk about dropped valves but leave out the issues with 987.1 IMS bearing, and the S54 obviously not the best engine for longevity either. Balsa wood has also been used in other high end cars to save weight, but they're making it out like this is the same as an 18th century frigate. Savagegeese has a much better and thorough review of the C6 Z06, casting it in a much more fair light.
987.2 S PDK owner here. Car turns into an absolute track weapon with relatively little mods. Also don't be scared by the cost of maintenance, every item is very easy to do if you have ever wrenched on a car. Parts aren't too bad, porsche labor rates are. 😊
This video made my day. As an x Imola Red Z4MC owner (sold 16 years ago) I'd take one back any day over any $30k car. Whenever i hear someone say their favorite car is an E46 M3, I say it's because they've never driven a Z4MC.
I'm A Vette guy but the E46M3 is by far my favorite BMW & I don't care what is better. The Z4 is just not my style. Just like that Z06, there's better cars but in a perfect World is have a C6 ZR1 & A M3 E46 manual ,convertible.
@JStryker7 I get it that looks are subjective and the M3 gets extra seats etc. but the Z4MC is rare and not many had the chance to experience it. Even someone like Thomas said it's his first time...
It's funny with the Z06 'Vette. It feels like it can't do the turns, but it absolutely can if you have big enough balls. It's got over 1g of cornering grip, but please don't wrap it around a tree 😅.
I did this comparison couple years back. Depending on your sportscar needs. That C6Z is basically in another category but based on price to performance ratio. It's top bang for the buck! Just attend any track day or lapping events.
I'm glad you ranked the Z4MC on top. I've owned mine for the past 12 years and daily it with a smile on my face every time i drive it. Excellent choice!
A simple coilover upgrade on the Z makes it punch even further above it's weight class, just so you know...2-3k and you've got a god killer suspension. A few more bucks for a heads/cam upgrade and they're nuts. I went with the C6 GS because I want to take the top out. A cam upgrade gets you the same Z06 hp and dry sump oiling, but the you have the open top experience too.
If you get a Z4 M, replace the transmission mounts with aftermarket ones, the 1-2 shift issue on those is caused by the transmission physically moving under torque and is improved if you replace the mounts so it can't do that.
I had all of them at the same time - the Z4M Coupe with a CSL airbox. So sound is the Z4M, raw speed is the Z06 and corners is the Porsche. But owning any of those three is a huge win for every driver. 👍🥰
This was exact price point I was shopping at in 2022. It was down to ND Miata, used 2015 WRX or 2006ish Cayman. Thankfully for me the 2nd gen Twins dropped so it came down to BRZ or Cayman. Although I dreamed of a Cayman and it felt faster, I still drove home the new BRZ. Basically warranty or upkeep costs that aren’t insignificant for a Porsche. Two years later and I’m still overjoyed with the BRZ.

You could get the Z4 Coupe (E86) in its "base" variant for almost have that price. And that N52 3.0si engine is no slouch either (not to be confused with the M52 3.0 of the earlier roadsters). With 265hp not as powerful as the S54 but actually the more modern engine with hollow camshafts and fully variable valve timing. I must concur completely. I too have a 2006 Z4 3.0 coupe, a jdm version (rhd) up here in Vancouver and it's spectacular! 265hp is nothing these days, but I've never been in a situation where I've felt it was lacking or 'slow'. It's just a visceral hoot and the gearing is optimum at really showcasing the brilliant N52B30. A fair bit lighter than the Z4M engine (magnesium block, I believe?) - it's better balanced and on paper, less than 1 second slower to 60. Bonus - a lot less maintenance on these! Typical/normal cooling system and suspension fixes that will eventually need doing (Amy bmw guy knows this) and eventually the oil leaks to be tended to. But the engines are near bulletproof. I even got 36 (Cdn) mpg on a highway run to LA last year doing 'sprightly' speeds all the way! I was stunned. Even city driving is decent, getting around 22-24 in the city. I also love that up in Canada these aren't officially sold here. Although oddly enough they do sell the Z4M?! So when the 18 months I've had mine I have seen one other one on the road and that was also imported from Japan. As much as I love the M, and I do! - the 3.0si coupe is 80% the thrill at 60% the price!

You take a regular guy who is decently into cars and tell him to do the same thing, the predictability of the Z4M will likely present better results. I remember reading a review back in the day about the Cayman S of that generation, where they wrote something along the lines of "all the Porsche one really would ever need"
10:00 My favorite era of BMW was my E39 M5, the first X5, the E46 M3 CSL. Cars just don't have better interiors or exteriors before or since and the engineering was excellent. My E39 hasn't had problems in 23 years except for the headlight self-levelers. Other than that it's just needed some new suspension bushings, driveshaft gaiters etc. In fact I generally loved that era: my old MkIV Supra was still in production, the SL55AMG with the supercharger was out, Audi's S4 S6 and S8 were all interesting.
Haven’t watched it yet, but I owned a Z4M Coupe, and I loved it so much. Such a good car, so much fun on track, and it felt special. Loved it loved it loved it. S54 is kinda scary though. Prices for parts have gone up!
Wish I could give you two thumbs up. What you guys are doing is just amazing. Funny, informative and did I mention funny. Longest UA-cam thing I’ve watched yet, but will watch it again. Thank you so much.
I love that even when James is doing the intro, he includes the, "...and I'm" before saying his name, as if its absolutely engrained in his head that he always says his name after Thomas.
I don't think you find any of these for $30k. I love each of them, I have a Cayman, though not as nice as that one. James is 100% right about the view in the wing mirrors.
Don’t if anyone cares or noticed, but I’m glad they put the words “This Episode is SUPPORTED…..”. Supported, not sponsored by a brand. A whole lot of other entities should learn this. Bravo. Oh and the video itself is glorious, as always.
Man y'all missed out not having a 4.3l VH V8 Vantage in this lineup. They are supremely affordable right now, and proving they can handle gobs of reliable miles for people that like to really drive their cars. There's been no better time to consider one and they are incredibly capable, fun, and dare I say practical.
Love this review, you guys nailed it! The Z4M was an under appreciated BMW for its time. I had a Z4M for years, a Cayman now, the Z4M was absolutely the more fun car on the street but that edginess made it scary on the track vs the Cayman which might be too good to the point of boring on the street makes a way better drive on the track. Love the Porsche, its been such an amazing experience and I'm not going back, but if I knew then what I know now I would have saved the $ and kept the Z4M.
In the airport watching this and I busted out laughing at post🥜😂😂. I’ve had a Z4M for about 2 years now, same spec as this one and have been hoping you guys would cover it! Only mod so far has been RPI exhaust; it’s a German S2000 with more displacement and power. Quick in a straight but screams on a mountain road. Glad to see it getting love!
nice! I agree I really like these even the vert because it reminds me of a faster S2000 and from what I hear it won't kill you. Also, I have always though that the S65 would be more at home in a car like this instead of the fat pig of the E9x.
@@moiv8 100%. I went on a mountain drive with friends years ago and one guy had the e93 coupe when I had a GTi. That sound still rings in my ears and God forbid something ever happened to my engine, the s65 would be my go-to swap.
This is going to sound mad but I recently went though this scenario and also included the 996/997 as you could find them in the $28-40k range. I ended up with a gen 2 99 Viper RT10. It’s a different beast but with clean title I paid low $30s, just needed some minor maintenance. Visceral, great handler on modern tires, great looks, rarer than most at every CC. Shockingly the roadster is $20-30k less than a same mile same year GTS coupe, so highly recommend. Hope @throttlehouse does a video on every 80/90’s kids dream car one day.
Great video. About 10 years ago, I came to the same conclusions and picked up a Z4 M-Coupe and absolutely love the car. Very engaging and every time I think about jumping ship to another platform, nothing feels quite right, especially when considering value/performance. I’ve broken the cupholders multiple times, so I LOLered when that happened. They’re $35 on Amazon and easy to replace. Z06 is great but a different experience entirely, as these gentleman showed. I love the Z4MC steering and dynamics, it’s engaging and thrilling and add the S54 noises on top and it’s just fun as hell to drive.

There are a few that have sold for under 30K on bring a trailer. Not sure where you are getting 40-45K from. Extremely clean low meilegae ones are in that range.

Finally! A reviewer who "gets" the M suspension setup in the Z4M and doesn't rave about it being too hard. It does what a sports car should do, handle brilliantly. M Division aren't stupid. They set this car up for spirited open road driving, not cruising the rough city streets.
False choice. Some sports cars can handle brilliantly without hammering the driver at the same time. One of these three will do that.

It really is. I love the transverse spring double-wishbone setup. On the higher-speed tracks, I can dial in more rake for stability in like 3 minutes. It's nothing like the leaf springs on a pickup.

The m3 and m4 is a different story. The e46 chassis is perfect.
Any car will benefit the same way from a good set of tires. Put the same tires on the bmw and you’ll experience the same charm

Yes. One of the huge advantages of owning this car. It’s a featherweight with a 427.
Balsa wood served the RAF just fine in WW2. Lap times showed the C6 Z06 and ZR1 to be world beaters. They're also phenomenal drivers cars.
Agreed. $450 Bilstein B8s and Michelin Pilot Sports transform the car.

@@DigitalSubsetBecause they want to be like Top Gear.
Vette performs fine in the corners, i think they are referring to the feel, which I agree, in comparison to the other cars

Do you know what year the one they have in the video is? Or yours if it is the same generation?
This video made my day. As an x Imola Red Z4MC owner (sold 16 years ago) I'd take one back any day over any $30k car. Whenever i hear someone say their favorite car is an E46 M3, I say it's because they've never driven a Z4MC.
I'm A Vette guy but the E46M3 is by far my favorite BMW & I don't care what is better. The Z4 is just not my style. Just like that Z06, there's better cars but in a perfect World is have a C6 ZR1 & A M3 E46 manual ,convertible.
Ya those people aren’t thinking. The Z4MC is lighter, better looking, and more rare than the e46 m3
@JStryker7 I get it that looks are subjective and the M3 gets extra seats etc. but the Z4MC is rare and not many had the chance to experience it. Even someone like Thomas said it's his first time...

I just bought an Imola Red Z4M Coupe. The odds are pretty good…..
It's funny with the Z06 'Vette. It feels like it can't do the turns, but it absolutely can if you have big enough balls. It's got over 1g of cornering grip, but please don't wrap it around a tree 😅.
A lot of people think these 'vettes can't handle the corners but its really because they're carrying a lot more speed than others.

That Z4M is perfectly optioned, with the carbon dash and no-nav! I had an '07 Z4M Coupe and I regret selling it. One day I'll have another!
Good luck finding a C6Z in any sort of shape under 35-40K in USA.
Yup. 35-40k is a GS.
Really? I feel like 40k is the price I see the majority of the lower mile Z06’s going for. Been seeing them 30k miles going for 40k.
Its more c5 z06 territory around 30k
Just got on marketplace in Texas and found about 3
Red Z06 99k miles 34k . Texas CarGurus
2001, or 2002 BMW Z3M with the S54 Vs That Z4M with the S54, that would be a cool video. Always been a fan of this Era of BMW
Z4 doesn’t get enough cred. Also yes 1-2 shifts are wonky in many BMWs
Z4M for me, last BMW with the S54 engine, last 2 seater Coupe from BMW, super limited production and prices rising now and more so in the future
If you get a Z4 M, replace the transmission mounts with aftermarket ones, the 1-2 shift issue on those is caused by the transmission physically moving under torque and is improved if you replace the mounts so it can't do that.
Z06 for me. That car is truly timeless

The Z4M Coupe is so timeless. It looks by far the best. Even if the S54 isn't for me the best BMW engine, its still great.
Z06 any-day. Such an incredible car and weight to power ratio is fantastic...
I had all of them at the same time - the Z4M Coupe with a CSL airbox. So sound is the Z4M, raw speed is the Z06 and corners is the Porsche. But owning any of those three is a huge win for every driver. 👍🥰
Z4M Coupe is my choice.
You guys are rapidly becoming the undisputed best car channel on UA-cam, without question.
In all honestly it isn’t undisputed. Hagerty id argue are a superior channel
@@aguiii_films I respect your opinion but Throttle house is consistently getting over double the views as Hagarty so I do believe that puts you in the minority
Throttle house is absolutely the best IMO. James is hilarious and Thomas can drive. Great production too, high quality without overdoing it like the old top gear
I agree, Jason Cammisa is also great, how about Carwow ?
@@aymanekhezzar1591 I dislike Carwow. Full of ads and all they do is talk onto nothing until 7 minutes have passed which is when the actual info is put and the race begins. Boring and a lot of skipping. Naturally they are the biggest channel and thus have more budget for insane matchups
BMW Z4 M Coupe is a dream car of mine. I think they're so beautiful, although every car in the video is pretty much badass.
I’m not a corvette guy, but for maintenance and potential. Out here is a smaller Texas town, I’d take the Corvette. Although I do love Porsche. If I had to leave them stock I’d go with the a Porsche though.
First the Z4, now the Z4M, hell yeah
That Z4M Coupe Is one of the most engaging driver's car of the 21st century. It dials all your senses up to 11... Even though the Coupe is the one to get.. The Z4M roadster may not look as cool, But they are more accessible and priced more reasonably in the used market.
I drove the Z3M roadster for an entire week, and Even though it was only the S52, it was absolutely fantastic!!!
One of the best pure sports out there.
Love this video! I had a Z4M and when I bought it I was considering a Cayman S. I had amazing time with the Z4M, taking it to the Nurburgring and Stelvio pass. Never had any serious mechanical issues or crazy maintenance bills either. When I decided it was time to move on I was looking into a C6 Z06, I ended up in a C7 GS because there was one conveniently close by but would love to drive an LS7 one day! Thanks James and Thomas for making these videos with used cars that are a little older, it represents the majority of what I believe most car guys actually end up buying!
30k im going with the corvette no doubt
The C6 Z06 is my attainable dream car, but I'm going with a 2018 Camaro SS 1LE (largely because of this channel) because I'm 19 and can't afford Corvette maintenance/insurance. Hope videos like this don't put it out of reach for me.
Congrats! To be able to afford something like that at 19 you must be doing something right
Still a great choice, I had one and loved it.
Please be careful leaving cars n coffee, I couldn't handle that level of responsibility at 19 I hope you can.
I had a manual 2018 2SS (non 1LE) and that car was incredible. Even without the 1LE package, the handling was insane. Lots of power, so try not to let your 19year old brain get you into trouble. Also, the visibility is atrocious. Fantastic car though. I miss it
That gen of camaro is a much more modern than a C6 and gonna be much easier to drive than a Z06. Though still at 19 quite a first car lmao.
Everyone complains about the c6 seat but they’re actually extremely comfortable especially if your driving for a long time
You could get the Z4 Coupe (E86) in its "base" variant for almost have that price. And that N52 3.0si engine is no slouch either (not to be confused with the M52 3.0 of the earlier roadsters). With 265hp not as powerful as the S54 but actually the more modern engine with hollow camshafts and fully variable valve timing.
Needless to say, I loved mine to bits for all the 120.000 km I drove it ;)
N52 is way more cool than most people understand. It's a very technically advanced engine.
- the 3.0si coupe is 80% the thrill at 60% the price!
yep, my '07 is an absolute joy on a winding country road.
definitely a no-regrets bargain sportscar.
@@mediocreman2 Yep, it's technically a very, very nice bit of kit. To use, it's a bit disappointing. I bought an E85 3.0si a few months ago, just for a bit of fun and honestly the engine is a bit of a let down. It's not bad by any means. But it doesn't sound that great and the Z is just a bit too heavy for it to really sparkle. In a car 200kg lighter it would rip, no doubt. They're stupid cheap in the UK, so still good value. But, say, a 986 Boxster is on a totally different level as a driver's car.
@@mediocreman2I was actually wanting an n52 over a 335i but couldn’t find a sport package spec lci one and got an n55. Magnesium block, valvetronic, and vanos is VERY impressive.
It annoys me when they say the Corvette has left springs implying it's a cart when those left springs are just the spring part of A-arm and multi link suspension. It's like saying an F1 car only has torsional springs.
Before you accuse me of being a Corvette fan boy I'm an E46 M3 owner.
It’s double wishbone with transverse leaf springs not multi link
and yeeeet, they're still leaf springs. Huge reason why a lot of owners go aftermarket if they intend on really driving it how it should be
@@yomansam4689 I mean the c6 zo6 has no problem being a proper track car winning nasa classes on basically stock suspension though. It's always been in line with other cars in the same model years for track times etc
@@Shiftheads well that’s because it’s an incredibly capable car. Not questioning that. But in situations like that, it comes down to the driver. You take Verstappen, slap him in a Z4 M and tell him to throw it around the Nurburgring and then turn around and do the same with the Z06, then yeah, you’ll have great results either way. You take a regular guy who is decently into cars and tell him to do the same thing, the predictability of the Z4M will likely present better results.
Same reason regular people struggle and are even scared to drive vipers, but they have no issues driving, say, an R8 which is around the same power yet both cars are equally as capable
@@yomansam4689 Average guy doing 7/10s in the Vette will still run faster laps than the same guy trying to push 9/10 in the other. The gap is massive and punters are going to go slow in corners no matter what, which means the Vette's power will have a bigger impact on lap times.
It’s hard to nail down specific predictions for the housing market is because it’s not yet clear how quickly or how much the Federal Reserve can bring down inflation and borrowing costs without tanking buyer demand for everything from homes to cars.
A lot of folks have been going on about the bull rally and said stocks that would be experiencing significant growth, any idea which stocks this may be? I just sold my home in the Boca Grande area and I’m looking to remunerate a lump sum into the stock market before stocks rebound, is this a good time to buy or no?
Such market uncertainties are the reason I don’t base my market judgements and decisions on rumours and here-says, got the best of me 2022 and had me holding worthless position in the market, I had to revamp my entire portfolio through the aid of a planner, before I started seeing any significant results happens in my portfolio, been using the same advisor and I’ve scaled up 750k within 2 years, whether a bullish or down market, both makes for good profit, it all depends on where you’re looking.
I will be happy getting a guide and glad to get the help of one, but just how can one spot a reputable one?

Its also kind of crazy listening to Thomas dump on the Z06 for poor handling when it was beating the brakes off of all comers in hot lap comparisons in its day
The Z06 is incredibly capable on the track, but on the road mine never felt as confidence inspiring as my cayman. Its a bit vague. Its is a fantastic car though.
@AR-ld8qd i get that the feel might be poor but Thomas was complaining as if it had poor handling which is simply not true. I'm kind of tired hearing about transverse leaf springs. They work brilliantly for their intended puprose. This car in 2007 had MR shocks!
Because it had way more power not because it handled better lol.
I feel like he's talking about how the handling 'feels' rather than how fast it actually is
@@TheBajamin The G80 M3 CS has more power than the C6 Z06 and has paddle shift and thats still slower around Nurburgring? 🤔
Still driving my Z4M...don't think i'll ever sell it. Hard to come by cars like this anymore. The S54 requires a bit of maintenance to keep it running well but it's worth it. Add a 4.10 final and it wakes it up even more.

Great feedback through the wheel and my stock shifter feels great, no need to upgrade that right now. I did install the FVD Brombacher Stage 2 which is a tune, exhaust, and a BMC air filter. It really opened her up and the sound is incredible. Porsche slightly detuned the 9A1 engine in the stock Cayman S but you can fix that with a good tune and get 100% throttle body opening.
