Hey Karen, sell it to someone who will enjoy and trust it. Buy a Civic, and drink Frappuccinos while sitting to pee. I'm keeping my Z06, and having nothing to fear, but fear itself!
Civic for sure be a great option, or anything honda makes.. Acura TL here with 290k miles and no issues still drives like new.. for a daily you can't go wrong with honda quality.. But the C6 vetts are blast to drive i do agree on that, my brother had had 2 of them. One in manual and one automatic.
@@civicpride1986 thank you for the comments civic :-) I may have used the wrong analogy, lol. I have an Africa Twin, wife has CRV. We have Honda quads, gens, mowers, dirt bikes, and have had numerous other Honda vehicles. I should actually be a Honda salesman I love em so much, ha ha. I've been watching the Civic Type R on trader. Might have to have one. Cheers fellow Honda lover, from Canada :-)
@@TampaDE5 how can my feeling be clickbait? 😂 It’s not based on nothing when I literally mentioned the stories in the video. Many more stories have been posted by various people since this video.
@SpeedCultureStudios um yeah it is. If toy were talking about the LS7 and z06 issues I'd defend you but nah, you bought a GS and are acting like it's gonna die on you, which it isn't. Get your panties untwisted. This is coming from a normally toyota guy who used to work on GM cars during that generation. You got the right one for a worry free weekender ride. Enjoy it and stop letting the internet worry you.
Your car blowing up "fears" are senseless. The only thing that worries me about my c6 is someone hitting me when I'm out driving my c6. It has almost happened twice the last few weeks.
I wouldn’t say senseless. I’ve seen several with catastrophic failures due to lifter collapse just in the last few months. But the blowing up was just an example-just don’t have the trust yet that comes with time.
@@SpeedCultureStudios Now if it's the LS7 i'd be worried. The LS2/3 are damn near bulletproof. It's a $15k premium on a base. But you can't get the Z51 after they introduced the GS.
Other then those cheap harmonic balancer that always go bad, aftermarket one is a must for any C6 corvette.. also fuel pumps are not the greatest they fail on them..
@@gonepostal9101 my brother has had 2 corvettes one 2011 base ls3 model and one 2012 grand sport with 6800 miles only and we had to replace the balancer due to the wobble.. his 2011 had it replace by the previous owner.. great fun cars but they do have quality issues chevy never care to address, Z06 also has major issue with valves dropping in them ruining the whole engine.
A Corvette is not for everybody. Just to let you know I have a 2011 GS with just 300,000 miles on the clock.I have only done routine maintenance on the car since I bought it new. It has been a gem to drive and own. All I can tell you is , you won't have to wait long when you sell.
I definitely don't think you have anything to worry about with it blowing up. The motor and drive line are rock solid, it's really all you are paying for and why it's like you said, the cost of the car. Now, speaking as a previous C6 owner, be ready for everything else around it to break, in mine the locks would sometimes not lock, the windows wouldn't go down, the traction control essentially stopped working and would bring be to a dead stop at random. Tons of gremlins. But the motor will outlast humanity.
Other than my ‘05 with all of the first year gremlins, my other three C6s have all been great. The ‘05 was the most unreliable car I’ve ever owned(over 50 in my lifetime). Ever.
Ah yeah, no one has ever blown up an LS3. I’m not questioning the reliability. It’s just a feeling of distrust I have-not based on anything in particular.
@@gerryortiz8324 Nope-it’s a Vlog channel so just sharing/documenting through processes, feelings, market trends etc. And it’s only clickbait if the title has nothing to do with the content-I do regret the time point I purchased. Could have saved a couple thousand. Finally, the $3.75 I’ve made off the video is hardly motivation 😂
So, here's my story... bought a used 2011 GS w/LS3. I put on about 20k miles with absolutely no engine issues. I pulled into Popeyes Chicken's drive-through. I had NO issues or warnings. I pulled into the shade to eat. When I was done, I started her up and choke, sputter, cough, cough! Had to tow her home. Had my mechanic come by and look at it. Tried to restart it, but just a horrible noise and I ended up finding pieces of my block on the ground and 2, yes, 2 big holes blown in the sides of the engine and cracks into the oil pan. $13K later, she's back up and running with a new crate LS3 heart transplant. It happens. I don't know what the previous guys did, but I know how I drive, and it is nowhere near the limits of the engine. I never track, race, or redline it. You just never know.
That is just really inaccurate. There have been many cases of lifter failure causing catastrophic damage to engine and dry sump system. But more importantly, don’t get caught up on the “blowing up” thing. It was just an example of something expensive that could happen. Clutch, trans, rear end…I just didn’t list everything.
@@coop4274 maybe not on a mass scale but you didn’t listen to what I said. Immediately after purchasing 3 - 5 people between various FB groups had catastrophic lifter failure in low mileage LS3. Coincidence? Maybe. But don’t tell me the LS3 doesn’t have lifter problems. Clearly some do. Since this video I’ve come across a number of people with failed lifters in LS3 corvettes. Some even damaged the cam seriously.
Man I bought a 1992 Camaro when I was 25 and looking back it had so many issues and I fixed them my self because I was a college student. But looking back I would not trade it for the world 🌎 ! It rattles and squeaks and plastics are cheap . But when I gas it that v8 sounds fantastic. I forget about the little stuff . And guess what the a/c don’t work on it and I still love it ! She’s still sits in my garage . 22 years of ownership…… still love it!!!! Sooooo it sounds like it’s not the car for you buddy ! I never worried about resale price or anything like that ! Just drive and enjoy ! Bam 💥. I’m gonna put an LS in it eventually. Because everyone loves to criticize the 5.0 liter it has and it’s never been fast but it’s about the smiles per gallon not the miles per gallon!
Dude you need a shrink. Corvette parts are not that expensive. Second that engine is one of the best ever made and will go 300k miles. If you over paid who’s fault is that? C6 have not bottomed out yet. The GS is one of the best Corvettes ever built. The base is no where the same car under the skin. You have appreciation for what the car is.
Getting so wrapped up in the engine. It's just an example. No one actaully watches or listens to the videos. it's a shame. There are a ton of instances of lifter failure causing catastrophic damage to the engine and dry sump. BUT as I said, it just takes time to learn a car's quirks.
@@V8dadmartin More prominent in the LS7, but I have seen a number of people with failures just recently in the LS3--low miles too. And if this is the first video you've seen, then you don't know how it started off. And if you "sat through" the whole thing you would have heard me say that the regret isn't buying the car and that this lack of "trust" is just a small part. It's the time period in which I purchased due to price fluctuations. I love how you imply that if you don't trust a car you're not an enthusiast lol. That's dumb. I've had a bunch of cars i didn't trust but absolutely loved. There are several cars out there I would love to own, but if you knew anything about them you wouldn't trust them for a second. THAT is a "real enthusiast." Owning and loving a platform in spite of their known problems. Thanks for checking in though.
@@SpeedCultureStudios All C6 have bad harmonic balancers, maybe not the z06 but those suffer from bad valves.. also c6 are knows for some electrical issues and bad fuel pumps.
I have a very similar tale. After thinking/debating/planning to buy a c6gs for a year or so, the prices started to climb (this would be mid/late 2021). I had a price cap of what I was willing to spend on the car and good examples started climbing above it immediately. I got SO lucky and bought a 14k mile mint ls3 manual car for 38k in november 2021 and it was just about the last sub-50k car under 40k in the country when I did. for the next year or more, the running comparative value/going price of it was mid-40s and i was so pleased that i got it when i did (i'd have never sprung for 45k on this purchase), but now they have come down to about what I paid (mine is still low mileage at low 20's) but i've put 1/3 of the 13yr old car's use on in under 2 years. I absolutely love the car, but yeah, nothing is cheap for it and it's not getting younger. Great video, I 100% feel your anxeity and also have asked myself "wouldn't a base model do pretty much the same thing?" But the widebody vettes are sort of subtle until you get used to looking at them and then can't look back at a base car the same way. Great video. Enjoy that thing!
Related, yet not quite: GS engine (manual trans) comes with the (2 stage) dry sump AND a forged crank. Auto trans version do not. Change out rocker trunnions, and all fasteners to ARP. Optional 'Total Seal' ring set (personal choice). Min. after mrkt cam should have .600 lift (duration @ .050 is negotiable depending where you want the torque curve) lift. Great swap in (with chassis surgery) an S-10 (especially "Extreme" extend cab version) as the GS engine is 35lbs heavier than stock 4.3 v6 (hint: relocate battery to bed or cab). The [stock] New Process 3500 5sp manual will handle the power AS LONG AS YOU DON"T GO BANGING (no Pro stock mode) GEARS. Definitely upgrade the front brakes (calipers/rotors) to (Cad) CTS mode. Vette or CTS-V units better, yet the $eller$ know their value. Why an S-10/LS swap? Had the truck and (tuned for quiet mode) "quite the sleeper", especially since it primary duty is hauling ✈(Bizjet) parts/supplies. And going to lunch... Many surprised faces😒 when it drives around/by (Asian, Euro and US) performance cars. Good luck and Happy Trails to all
I'm seeing low mile GS's upper 30s to upper 40s. Recently I am seeing prices jumping up again. C6 GS's seem to be holding value better than just about any Corvette. At least over the past half year or so.
@@DadsGarageDIY That is absolutely true. There are only a couple for sale within a 200 mile radius of me. One of them is listed at $39,900. I've looked at it--and it is junk. Door and fender had been repainted, but VERY poorly--painted on the car and mirror taped off. And all the weather stripping is rotted and dry and rear window tint is bubbling.
Arguably one of the most reliable and dependable vehicles that have ever come out of Detroit (or Kentucky) - if you're looking for a C6 with the LS3 and the T60 - if you don't mess with it (aka keep it stock), maintain it properly - you can go a quarter million miles w/out issues. There may be a few starters in between but that's about it.
You’re only fearing it because you love it so much! As an LS3 Chevy owner I can promise you, these are the most RELIABLE Chevy V8s ever made. And you made an excellent decision w the 6 speed manual. Mine is too. Keep it, love, give it hell. She can take it
Any vehicle can break down at any time! I recently bought a 1986 vw golf out of California, and drove it home 1941 miles. Now, im looking at a gs identical to yours! The ls3 is bulletproof, youll be fine bro!
yes, but a slight wobble is normal, even from factory. I have a C5 Z06 and C6 GS, ultra low miles, both have a wobble, my mechanic said they're fine. Took the GS to GMC, for second opinion their mechanic said the same thing, they all have a slight wobble from factory. Even Lyle from C&S corvette wrote me back and said, slight wobble normal.
You made this video 10 days ago and I want to know where are these $25k to $30k Grand Sports you talked about? Still seeing them $35k to $45k LS3 Base cars are going for $30k+ still people still trying to sell 2005 base for $25k+ Im in Florida where we have a ton of these cars and everything is still all jacked up. I am looking to buy a C6 Grand Sport I want to spend $36k max for a good example Manual only. From what im seeing prices are still the same as when you bought yours. its 4/6/23
@@austinnelson5529 Hi I am now looking for a 6th Gen Camaro SS 1LE 2020+ for around 42k They are just as hard to find as the C6 Grand Sport it seems. I see some but not in any color I would want. I want Red, Orange or that Shock Green/Yellow. All the one is see are White or Black or a gray. I figured for the money I might as well get newer technology seeing that we are at C7 prices on the Grandsport anyway. The 1LE just comes with everything you would want out the box. Good luck on your search.
LS3 is one of GM best creations even today. GS Corvette is the best one all around, great engine. naturally aspirated, last year of analog gauges and round lights. They are becoming classics, I get more comments on my GS than my C8! It's like more exotic because you hardly see them as much and they look mean with that wide stance and fat tires.
My LS2 CTS-V1 experienced lifter failure at 26k miles on the motor. Yes I beat on the car and street race quite often but even then, the car is stock so I'm surprised
I don't worry about my '99's LS1 blowing up; like, at all. The transmission maybe. (Which is still plenty expensive.) And of course the electrics are all suspect. But yeah, the motor gives me great confidence. Perhaps partially because I've owned and driven so many beaters that actually were at some risk of blowing up. Still only had one catastrophic motor failure in like 250-300,000 miles worth of driving older high mileage rides. It was a 1980-something Pontiac 6000 station wagon that was 20+ years old at the time with like 185,000 miles on it or some such. Threw a rod. Was one of the very last B2000's I was seeing on the road before it went. Not a well made car or engine. A mostly stock, loved and cared for LS, is not something to waste time worrying about IMHO.
I have a C7 Grand Sport. And I harbor the Same. Exact. Feelings. I love your hot-girlfriend analogy. First issue for me: It had two blown shocks when I bought it and the dealer replaced them (no problems), but those shocks are over $350 each w/o labor. Oil changes can range from $100 to $250 depending on the dealer. My trusted mechanic has a significant challenge just lifting the car because they mostly deal with standard daily driver vehicles. After using a battery tender for two days, the check engine light came on with a lazy oxygen sensor code. I cleared it, stayed off the tender, and no check engine lights. Touchy on system voltage, I guess. I call my GS the “temperamental race car.” Look at it sideways, and you could be dealing with a perplexing and costly repair. Or it might just keep going problem-free. You just have to get used to driving with your fingers crossed. 😂
I own a 2013 bmw M5, i figure blowing that motor up will hit my pocket book harder than an ls3! The 4.4 liter 2013 bmw motor is known to have rod bearing issues, your ls3 has no known issues.
A good LS3 with dry sump is 15k-not including labor if you can’t do it yourself. The LS3 is probably considered more reliable than any BMW engine, but to say it has no known issues is not accurate.
@@FredFlintstone21 the ls3 is definitely established a reputation of being solid and one of the best engines ever built, but just in the last couple of months I have heard numerous people suffering catastrophic lifter failure in lower mile vettes.
Anyone who says there's nothing to worry about owning a c6 obviously never had the fuel tank fitting leak or a torque tube bushing blow out! $5k later and I sold mine...
I picked up my z51 07 c6 for 15k it keeps giving me hell and the seats suck but its a f-ing great car All I did was upgrade the exhaust and set it as low as it could go on stock settings and I just keep having problems with the charging system for some reason.
I have a 2010 C6 Grand Sport. I have experienced: No start...Torque Tube failure...Reduced Engine Power...Service Traction System...Service Active Handling System...Check Engine Light...Locked Out of the Vehicle...FOB Failure. I DO NOT RACE MY VETTE. Good luck
@@SpeedCultureStudios Sadly, I bought my Vette NEW, NEVER raced or dogged the car and have spent OVER 15K to date in repairs. The newest problem is the car would not go into gear and the passenger door release would not work. In fairness to the Vette, most of the problems occurred in the past 2 years. Prior to that the car had very few problems. I enjoyed your video! Thanks for responding to my comments.
This is hilarious, I owned a q50 for 2 years and had to Max out my warranty to replace the STOCK engine and STOCK turbos. Had 73k miles and was stock the entirety of its life with me. It’s funny how opposite peoples experiences can be with certain cars.. I am jealous you never had to deal with those problems!
Oh no. That's my dream car. I don't know if I want to watch, but I can't look away. Damnit... Whew. Ok. Still a dream car. Your trust issues are not mine. That engine is reliable enough for me, and I don't think that pushrod V8 will let you down. I love the GS because, not just the looks, but very few cars can out-corner it. It's a lot of power, but useable (kinda) on the street.
Nah man. LS3 is pretty bulletproof. Just take care of the ole’ HB and you’re good. It’s like a really hot girl, who likes to get dolled up in public. She wants her hair and makeup done and wants everyone to see how pretty she is and know how hot you think she is. But then, later, when no one is looking, she wants you to pull her hair, get dirty and throw each other around like there’s no tomorrow. Been daily driving mine for almost a year and a half. Send it and enjoy!
@@SpeedCultureStudios yeah I was a little paranoid about it but she did a full autocross day on the stock one and I thought I noticed a slight wobble so I pulled the trigger with a good shop to have it changed. Every performance car has its Achilles heel but even in New England in all weather conditions the C6 has been awesome. Even fits a ton of shit from Home Depot in the trunk lol. Also long live them classic curves 🤘🏻
Well i bought mine in march of 2019 for 24500 a artic white 2011 grandsport automatic with 64k miles i just hit 80k miles with it and i added headers cam and a torque converter and i daily drive it when the weather is nice and only problem i had was the shifter cable broke on me but was easy fix with the replacement clips from autozone and at todays prices i could sell it and make a profit on it.
Your not going to kill your ls3, unless your tracking it. The engine is bulletproof, people who kill it are constantly bouncing off the red line. As long as your not overreving it your not going to hurt it. The biggest thing that kills a base or grand sport is other people hitting it while you’re driving it, not internal problems. I would worry more about the clutch than the engine, that’s what dies. Now a ls7 that’s another story.
I'd really like to get a C6 ZO6 for that LS7 one day but definitely can't afford it anytime soon. Also, can you change your map while driving? I got a tune at Soho a couple weeks ago and they said I could but it doesn't seem to work.
Hey man, the LS3 will not let you down. There’s a reason they built the LS9 on it and turned it up to 11. Sure you will have the odd failure on some cars, a 1 in 10,000 thing. Those were cars built a on a Monday or by drunk workers on a Friday, LOL! I’ve been reading the CorvetteForum for years, the only engine kabooms I’ve ever read is the LS7. That being said, the torque tube and transaxle thing is moronic and labor intensive. That will be expensive! I honestly hate my ZR1 half the time, for two reasons. One, the headlight fitment. Perfect fitment is just impossible, considering I’ve gotten all the panel gaps perfect otherwise. And second, the clutch going soft or hanging halfway up when you have some fun. I even have the updated master cylinder and Lingenfelter return spring. It’s either the pressure plate design that has been flawed since the F Body or air in the line. Can’t believe for a second the fluid is boiling. I change it frequently with Ranger method and will be adding a speed bleeder. I use Pentosin DOT4 LV, the OEM stuff with a 500+ degree boiling point.
I do knowZ never once questioned the car. I’ve said many times the c6 GS is one of the best sports cars ever built. And you missed my point about the “base” c6. I said for the price difference, you could assemble a very similarly performing car-which is absolutely true and well understood.
Is there a valid point to this video? I ask because you see I'm the little old lady from Pasidena and wish to buy a c6 2011 ragtop. I almost slipped into a coma...
The Grand sport also got the wide body, which the base model didn't get. It's one of the only reasons I am looking at the Grand sport. Zo6 sounds nice, until you realize they only put the Ls7 in the Z06 into like three cars, so parts are super hard to find and way to expensive.
Ummm..... You are worried about the wrong thing with an LS3 Be worried about someone stealing it or crashing into you because they are on their phones. Not that engine.
The LS3 engine is the easiest engine to work on its ridiculous. The fact that you regret buying baffles me you can go buy an A&A supercharger kit today and make 800 to the wheels reliably tomorrow with zero issues that’s how great that engine is sell it and get a dam Prius I’m disappointed in this video I thought you were going to make some wack excuse that it’s to little or some shit not complain that you’re scared of the reliability of it go do a simple heads and cam FBO with E85 and tell me if you still regret it
You didn’t watch the video. I just haven’t built up trust in the car yet-the engine was just an example-LS3 or not. However in just the last 2 months I have heard several people have lifter failure causing catastrophic damage to engine and dry sump on low mile LS3s-so it more of a legitimate concern than I even thought. BUT as I said in the video-the regret is NOT in buying the car. It was the timing of when I bought it. You must have just skipped everything when you got all bent out of shape 😂
Yes, that blue base is a good looking car and for everyday driving, it's hard to beat. All C6s look good. However, the Grand Sport manual is a great track car. Maybe you should own two, one for track and one for everyday driving.
Bro calm down its not the z06 with the ls7 valve drop issue. The ls3 is not super expensive and the car is super easy to work on. The real question is why is your oil gauge pegged out just crusing?
C6 Corvette's are damn near bullet proof! These cars are so reliable it's amazing. Yes, if your going to beat the crap out of it constantly, then your going to have problems, just like any car. P.S. That hot girlfriend is going to cheat on you and leave you.... your Corvette won't! 👍
If your C6 is not reliable, you've either abused it or you got a car that needs work and you didn't do the work. Also, an LS3 is not the same price as a C6 GS in good shape. That said, the C6Z is far and above a much better value. Better car, arguably one of the best engines produced, very collectable and a performance beast. The GS is your HS girlfriend dressed for Prom. C6Z is a hot track star.
I’m not sure what you’re saying about the LS3 and GS being the same price. What I said in the video was that, at that time, a clean GS was going for mid-high 30k while you could get a clean base (with an LS3) for low 20s. Yes the z06 is an animal, but I think you’re cutting the GS short. With the z being in the high 40s - low 50s compared to a clean GS going for mid 30s still, I think it’s the better bang for the buck-and you don’t have a threat of the engine grenading on the track with the LS3.
Replacing a low mileage LS3 and a dry sump system because you get metal flakes through it gets quite expensive. No, probably not 30k but wouldn’t be hard to hit 20+ especially if there is labor involved.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I thought the LS3 crate engine was like 8k would it really be that much labor to swap it out? I was thinking more like 12k all in max. I've been looking around at LS3 corvettes as well
@@V8dadmartin plus dry sump system itself. We're now over 30% of the car's value. And again, as I said in the video and in other comments, the engine was just an example.
@@TheSlowEcoboost Yes. It’s a great car. I actually sold it and now have a c5, but I’ve kept in touch with the new owner and he’s ol enjoying it as well!
I have a 07 base model, when I got it last year I didn't know much about c6s so I bought the first one I saw because there was no grandsports in my area but now I'm kind of regretting it and I'm thinking of trading it someday for a grandsport. Is it a good idea ?
I would say yes, but not even necessarily the grand sport just going up to the LS3 would be worth it. If you really like the wide body and don’t want to worry about upgrading the brakes on your own then yes get a GS! Otherwise the 08-14 “base” is still a great car!!
@Speed Culture Studios yes I love the the wide body look with all black exterior! I'm 20 years old so a grandsport is kind of out of my budget right now so I will save up for that. It's just impossible to find a black GS with a manual transmission :(
@@54N149 you’re telling me. I looked for a black manual GS for months all over the country. One I did find had a ton of sun damage and someone had done a terrible job repainting a door and fender and the dealer still wanted $39,000
No offense man, but if you’re scared of something happening to the car and not being able to afford. Just lay off the sports cars for now and invest that money into yourself or business. Imagine how you’ll feel when you don’t trip about having to replace an engine or any components because you’re well off. Just a thought
It's not about not being able to afford. I never said anything about not being able to afford. But just because you can afford something doesn't mean you "want to." I also said that was just a small consideration and trust in the car (in any car--especially a 13 year old car) just needs to be built over time. The main point made in the video--which so many seemed to have missed although 75% of it was focused on it was the price drop immediately after purchasing. Thankfully prices are coming back with Spring rolling in.
Funny, but I don't feel parts for the Vette are all that expensive. Try a BMW or Mercedes. Plus, with exception to breaking down the engine, virtually any repairs are pretty easy to work on. And really, a $250 dollar oil change? First off, you can do it yourself, and secondly, that's an absurd price. I can get Mobil 1 oil changes for under $40 if I look for a few coupons. Maybe you should trade it in for a nice.....ummm, anything else in the performance range and enjoy all the higher pricing! Oh, and Vette engines for the most part are bullet proof. Mine is a daily driver and has around 120K miles and I don't worry at all.
BMWs aren’t too bad in terms of expense. And FCP Euro has lifetime warranty on all parts. Trans, torque tube, rear end-not super easy to work on for the average Joe. No engine is bullet proof - but reliability was only a fraction of the point of this video. I do change oil myself. You’re not getting $40 mobil 1 oil change lol. You’re getting scammed. GS takes 11+ quarts of oil at $10 and $15-$20 filter. I’m not a mathematician but…
@@SpeedCultureStudios I have a 2005, only takes 5.5 quarts. Sorry, didn't know the GS takes 11 quarts, so I get the price then. However, I have a BMW motorcycle, and I can tell you parts for that are double to triple parts for a Honda bike, so I extrapolated that over to the car. I've never heard anyone say parts or repairs for a BMW were cheap. I do know things go wrong with Vettes, but for the most part someone mechanically inclined can fix quite a few of the normal issues that come up. I will say the Vette inevitably seems to garner more attention that many other cars, even some of the supercars, and that's a nice thing!
@@SpeedCultureStudios Cool! I'll take your word for it as I'm not experienced with BMW cars at all, except to know the new M5 kicks ass and sounds good doing it, lol. I still have a small list of upgrades I'd like to do with my car, but finances limit a lot of my decisions. Thanks for being a gracious person :), and have a happy holiday season!
Why don't you ust spring for an extended warranty and I'll give you a piece of mind knowing you won't be having to spend all this extra money unexpected repairs I've had Corvettes my girlfriend never went to a movie unless it was a driving I've never parked the car anywhere without worrying about it I always had to watch it ever when I come back to the car you look it over really good with a magnifying glass to make sure there's no little scratch somewhere that you wound up getting while you left
I actually GAINED many subs from this video. And it’s NOT a negative video, if you listened. The regret was not the car itself, it was the timing in which it was purchased. Thought that was pretty clear.
@SpeedCultureStudios Well, here's one who's tired of listening to complaining and (seems like) whining about so many things regarding this wonderful car that so many of us love. You seem the type to find the negative even if you won ten million in the lottery!! Good bye.
Then you didn’t. Literally at the 2:35 mark. Like I said-it wasn’t buying the car, it was the time period I bought it. If you can’t see that then you don’t understand finances lol-or you didn’t watch. The “lack of trust” was only a small part and I even dismissed it when moving to the real reason. The 15% price drop immediately after the purchase was painful-I don’t keep cars long so I always think about resale values. I went with the LS3 specifically for its reputation. However, the lifter failure issues can’t be denied.
Having owned my 2010 GS M6, with 66k miles when I got it, for over 6 months now I have to say that this car won't let you down in the drivetrain department as long as regular maintenance has been done. I will say though if you plan on making more power with the car, many stock parts start to give out pretty much immediately. Mostly seals and gaskets so nothing super expensive only time consuming to replace as this powertrain design is very tight and hard to get to in some places, like the clutch for instance. For the most part though, in stock form this car won't do you wrong at any point in owning it especially if you don't beat on it like I do. Mine is a weekend warrior/AutoX and road course car.
Hey Karen, sell it to someone who will enjoy and trust it. Buy a Civic, and drink Frappuccinos while sitting to pee. I'm keeping my Z06, and having nothing to fear, but fear itself!
You’re thinking a little too deeply
Civic for sure be a great option, or anything honda makes.. Acura TL here with 290k miles and no issues still drives like new.. for a daily you can't go wrong with honda quality.. But the C6 vetts are blast to drive i do agree on that, my brother had had 2 of them. One in manual and one automatic.

Bro you’re not gonna blow up an LS2 or LS3 unless you’re tracking it and are the top 1% of racers.

I agree
Great video, I 100% feel your anxeity and also have asked myself "wouldn't a base model do pretty much the same thing?"
But the widebody vettes are sort of subtle until you get used to looking at them and then can't look back at a base car the same way.
Great video. Enjoy that thing!

Related, yet not quite:
GS engine (manual trans) comes with the (2 stage) dry sump AND a forged crank.
Auto trans version do not. Change out rocker trunnions, and all fasteners to ARP.
Optional 'Total Seal' ring set (personal choice).
Min. after mrkt cam should have .600 lift (duration @ .050 is negotiable depending where you want the torque curve) lift.
Great swap in (with chassis surgery) an S-10 (especially "Extreme" extend cab version)
as the GS engine is 35lbs heavier than stock 4.3 v6 (hint: relocate battery to bed or cab).
Had the truck and (tuned for quiet mode) "quite the sleeper",

It’s an awesome car no doubt!
ls3 is a super reliable engine whats the issue? change the oil every 5000 miles etc
Finally someone gets what I mean lol.

The Grand sport also got the wide body, which the base model didn't get. It's one of the only reasons I am looking at the Grand sport. Zo6 sounds nice, until you realize they only put the Ls7 in the Z06 into like three cars, so parts are super hard to find and way to expensive.

I just haven’t built up trust in the car yet-the engine was just an example-LS3 or not. However in just the last 2 months I have heard several people have lifter failure causing catastrophic damage to engine and dry sump on low mile LS3s-so it more of a legitimate concern than I even thought. Find me an inexpensive LS3 with dry sump. Oil pressure at cold. Settles right in the middle when warm.
Bruh this how I feel about my 2016 charger rt that I paid off 😂
Chevrolet says the LS 3 is probably the best v8 engine they’ve ever built or probably ever will build!
I believe them!
A base model are like 25k and GS 40k what are you talking about
GS can be found for mid-30s
LS3 engine is bulletproof 💪
Nothing is bulletproof but yes it’s a great engine
You are not talking about the car you are talking about the economy. I've owned my Grand Sport for 13 years and it's a fantastic and reliable car.
Like I said in the video, "it's not so much the buying the car, it's the period in which it was purchased..."
@@SpeedCultureStudios you can say that about any car?
A blown ls3 engine definitely doesn’t cost 30-40k lol
Replacing a low mileage LS3 and a dry sump system because you get metal flakes through it gets quite expensive. No, probably not 30k but wouldn’t be hard to hit 20+ especially if there is labor involved.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I thought the LS3 crate engine was like 8k would it really be that much labor to swap it out? I was thinking more like 12k all in max. I've been looking around at LS3 corvettes as well
@@Bryan-pw7nd 8-12 for an engine probably, but when you get metal in the dry sump system that all has to be replaced too. It just adds up.
@@SpeedCultureStudios I’ve found 3 dry sump LS3s around 10-12k
@@V8dadmartin plus dry sump system itself. We're now over 30% of the car's value. And again, as I said in the video and in other comments, the engine was just an example.
Is tht $CAD or $USD ? I found a Grand sport centennial edition 2012 for 35k CAD WHICH IS ARND $26k usd I’m picking up this weekend
That’s a great deal!
@@SpeedCultureStudios yea but still scared I’m gonna start thinking like u if i had made gd decision lol
@@remixz23 at that price-as long as it has decent service records and you get it inspected, it’s hard to beat this car!
They are gocarts😮 My modded S197 Mustang is comfortable and fast.....
I totally get “the super hot girlfriend” because people won’t leave me alone about my C7 Z
That's awesome lol!
Just drive her and enjoy the experience… prices are so volatile now… enjoy her for what she is…
Definitely!
You need to buy a Subaru WRX to match your anxiety!😂
😂
I'm just like him and I drive a 335i, and yes I'm a mess
Interesting. Have you considered a Mazda RX7/RX8 and build a 20B engine in it?
I have not considered Mazda…yet
Are ls3 engines not reliable? I’ve heard of ls7’s having head issues but never heard anything on the ls3’s? Anyone?
I just got a free RX7, imagine how I feel about that blowing up on me. At least I got a VQ car as reliable back up.
My God! People have twin turbo LS3s on stock bottom end and they don't blow up!
People have a lot of things that don’t blow up. And some do…
Well is the car good now?
There was never an issue with the car
@@SpeedCultureStudios I mean has it held up well
@@TheSlowEcoboost Yes. It’s a great car. I actually sold it and now have a c5, but I’ve kept in touch with the new owner and he’s ol enjoying it as well!
@@SpeedCultureStudios nice hopefully she lasts forever getting a c6 hopefully Friday
@@TheSlowEcoboost congrats! It’s a great car!
@@SpeedCultureStudios that's crazy! But I agree with your point about feeling like it's gonna break down or it's gonna disappoint you someday
@@54N149 hoping to develop more trust in it with the more miles and the more I push it.
@@guygourley2411 certainly depends on what bmw we’re talking about but working on a 335i for example - parts aren’t bad at all.
Least it ain’t a base model
Literally one of the most reliable sports cars ever made
Time to buy an 8th or 9th gen honda accord v6 for 10 grand and reliably go to 300,000 miles.
Because the plan was to modify and a warranty would have been useless most likely.
Use PM for peace of mind preventive maintenance
Definitely.
Is this satirical?
No, you just missed the main point

I wonder if he understands that doing this type of video will make some of his subscribers leave??
I actually GAINED many subs from this video. And it’s NOT a negative video, if you listened. The regret was not the car itself, it was the timing in which it was purchased. Thought that was pretty clear.
@@SpeedCultureStudios Hmm, WHERE did I say negative? You need to reaccess how you do videos.
@@jasonmacneil2256 You said subscribers would leave--that implies negative. No need to "reaccess." It was pretty clear.
@SpeedCultureStudios Well, here's one who's tired of listening to complaining and (seems like) whining about so many things regarding this wonderful car that so many of us love. You seem the type to find the negative even if you won ten million in the lottery!! Good bye.
I’m in the market for a GS! Wanna sell it?
Already sold 😂
@@SpeedCultureStudios they are sweet. Thanks
Did you buy a newer one?
@@cn9936 No I actually bought a truck and a camper, but am back in the market for another channel car so a corvette might be back in the list
I watched the whole video I found zero reason.
LS3 is simply the best Motor every produced period. , you maybe need to buy a civic .....
