  • Just a few weeks after a young Demi Moore completed a stint in rehab at the insistence of St. Elmo's Fire director Joel Schumacher, ET caught up with the superstar-in-the-making on the set of the iconic '80s film. Watch the vintage 1984 footage...
"It was real exciting because I've never worked with such a large cast," said the then-21-year-old star of the Brat Pack ensemble that included soon-to-be fiance Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Andrew McCarthy, Ally Sheedy and Mare Winningham. "It's worked out to be a real group of loving people."
Although she did not directly address her time in rehab, Demi perhaps cryptically acknowledged that she had received "a lot of support."
She added that she's a lot like her "exciting" character of Jules, who at one point in the movie goes on a wild, cocaine-fueled binge. "We're all playing extensions of ourselves that are, you know, real inward places that we've probably yet not looked at," she mused.
Demi had not gone to college, and she recounted of her upbringing, "It's really hard for me. I had such a different life. I never really had this kind of experience. I was more of a loner in that sense. Never really had a group, so it's a new experience for me."
She added with a laugh, "I don't know if I could handle fraternity life."

I got to say seriously that the whole cast in ex-ce-llent. I mean, the acting is very very good. Here Demi Moore proves she's really really convincing, Rob Lowe is adorable and soo soo good too, Judd Nelson the prodigy.

Great interview here. little did this young Demi Moore know about what a fantastic future was coming to her. Such a beauty and this era reminds me of when I was young with my adult life ahead of me. I so miss the 80's and 90's. St Elmo's really captivates the mid 80's very well.

She looks so much better with lighter hair. Her hair color is too dark for her now especially since she is older. This was the first film I have ever seen Demi in and I knew she would be a huge star.

She was one of my biggest fashion icons when I was in high school! I sure hope that things have been going a lot better for her in life now, than they have been a couple of years ago!

Mentioning The Big Chill it would be interesting to see these characters coming back later in life to reflect on the past.
