Just like every other speech from every other undeserving Hollywood princess win huh- judge all the performances nominated and choose a winner; there was a clear winner and that was Felicity Huffman
I think people who say Reese Witherspoon didnt deserve her Oscar just don't like the idea of young, pretty actresses from comedy background winning awards against older, more-experienced dramatic actresses, no matter how great the performance was.
Walk the Line was a brilliant film, one of the best I've ever seen. Joaquin should have won an Oscar for his role...it was one of the most breathtaking things I've watched...
Reese Witherspooon is EASILY one of the most underrated actress of all time. People tend to underestimate her acting. She actually deserved another nomination for Election.

@movingonandup773 Reese mentioned it in many interviews for Walk the Line. And they also had a lovely happy reunion at the golden globes earlier this year.
movingonandup773 you’re wrong because Reese herself said Joaquin was a great guy and Joaquin said the same about her. And they had problems with each other when they rehearsed for Walk the line but that was because of the intense pressure put on them to portray Johnny Cash and June Carter to perfection. However as they got better with their singing and instrument playing they got along perfectly. By the time filming started, they were already good friends with each other and still are to this day. Say whatever the fuck you want. No offense

Reese won all the major awards for Best Actress: Critics' Choice Awards, Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA Awards, SAG Awards.. that's why she's the clear winner for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Ronnie Bishop Yeah I know that. Classic oscar-baiting stuff! I find it tiresome. Those biopics are rarely riveting. And what they're awarding someone for is the best _impersonation._ Not necessarily the best acting performance. And if you are the right physical type, you're half way there before you begin. However watching Michael Douglas as Liberace on the 'Behind the Candelabra' thing, I thought it was a real shame he wasn't eligible for an Academy ward (just the Emmy). Because he entertained the fuck out of me. He was an absolute scream and at the same time managed to move me towards the end. Ditto Matt Damon.
Reese Witherspoon delivered such a beautiful speech; she's so passionate and such a wonderful person. She has a way with words - and she has a raw talent. Her performance in Walk the Line was superb!
I love Reese. I know I don't know her personally, but, honestly, I don't think I have to know her that well to say that she is a wonderful person. So genuine and so kind.

Felicity Huffman should have won this. Oscars. Reese Witherspoon’s performance to me was a supporting performance I always hate category fraud at the Oscars
I get where you’re coming from. Reese Witherspoon’s role in “Walk The Line” definitely borders between a lead and supporting role since her screen time in the movie was about half of Joaquin Phoenix’s. But I still would consider her role as a lead because she still had a significant amount of screen time and the movie would not work without her character since the main story was less about Johnny Cash’s life and more about the love story between Johnny and June.
That just shows they created a good friendship during the filming of the movie. And they still are good friends with each other based on their golden globes 2020 reunion
I agree, but did you catch the pure shade in her speech where she says TWICE that her character was a REAL woman? I'm still giving her ass the side eye....
I loved her speech. Glad I saw this when it aired live. Loved the movie overall. Joaquin Phoenix should've won Best Actor, as that was his best performance EVER.
Reese Witherspoon not only swept the major organisations that year but most of the major critics organisations as well and still they say she didn't deserve it
That was such a lovely speech :) I loved her performance in Walk the Line. She really conveyed the strength and conviction it takes to be a pillar for someone else, and yet she was flawed herself. Really subtle but complex.
Reese Witherspoon, you deserved the Oscar for your portrayal of June Carter Cash. No doubt or question your children likely said "Way to go Mom, nice work". I have the film. Hopefully someday Joaquin Phoenix wins the Oscar.
The Academy prefers American citizens and swearing and shouting to solidity and depth. When I watched Pride & Prejudice, I totally forgot that Keira Knightley was playing the role of Elizabeth. She was BEING Elizabeth. She put her heart and soul there and delivered such a solid performance with so much depth. She should have been named Elizabeth. This also explains Melissa Leo winning over Helena Bonham Carter in 2011 and also the recent nomination for Jennifer Lawrence. Her portrayal was no different than the one on Silver Linings Playbook. Also Natalie won an Oscar for portraying an troubled ballerina (totally deserved) while Keira didn't even get a nomination for Anna Karenina, a role she also played with such intensity that it was impossible to think that she was acting. Keira totally deserved the award for Pride & Prejudice for not playing but for being the role. Don't know how Felicity did. Gotta watch Transamerica.

I saw Transamerica....a great roll, but one that other people could have played just as well, if not better than Huffman. But NO ONE could have pulled off June Carter like Reese.
Felicity Huffman should have won this Oscar. Reese should have been in Supporting. I believe that Felicity lost due to the nature of her movie. How odd that the music is playing very soon after Reese begins her speech.
What REALLY mattered was that Reese won the most two important awards -- SAG and BAFTA -- that led to her Oscar. Okay, so her and Felicity got slews of critics awards and Golden Globes for their performances, but Transamerica walked away empty-handed at the Oscars (Dolly Parton even lost to that "Pimp" song from Hustle and Flow).
This looks good to me. Though I agree Felicity Huffmun should've won, I have to say Judi Dench was in the worst movie of all the nominees yet she stole every scene.

I saw Transamerica....a great roll, but one that other people could have played just as well, if not better than Huffman. But NO ONE could have pulled off June Carter like Reese.
ITA! I think the movie itself was the gem much more so than Huffman's performance.
I’m not a groupie of anything but after I saw walk the line, I was in love.
Especially because it was after I saw all her "dumb blonde" movies.
+Dave Gagnon Sure about that? Since when are these tabulations released to the public?
There's not an iota of "Hollywood" in that speech. Straight from the heart. Love you Reese!
Reese has shown us by making amazing series and films the last decades, that she meant every word in this speech. I salute you Reese ❤️
Her role was mesmerizing and completely unforgettable!! I really do think that she deserved an Oscar but Reese deserved it as well.
Reese deserved to win and her speech was really good, not boring :)
Her accent is the best thing ever. ♥
Felicity Huffman should have won this Oscar. Reese should have been in Supporting. I believe that Felicity lost due to the nature of her movie. How odd that the music is playing very soon after Reese begins her speech.
She looked so classy, beautiful and timeless ... her speech perfection!
What a sincere and well spoken acceptance speech. Very humble and meaningful
shes so sweet and endearing
What REALLY mattered was that Reese won the most two important awards -- SAG and BAFTA -- that led to her Oscar.
Okay, so her and Felicity got slews of critics awards and Golden Globes for their performances, but Transamerica walked away empty-handed at the Oscars (Dolly Parton even lost to that "Pimp" song from Hustle and Flow).
I've been thinking wasn't Felicity Huffman's chances nullified cause 'she's a DESPERATE HOUSEWIFE' at the time?!
I was so sad at this moment, because Felicity Huffman gave a once-in-a-lifetime-performance in "Transamerica".
I've just seen Walk the Line, and Reese's performance was absolutely AMAZING. She was a perfect June Carter...
Arianna Ratto watch transamerica! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
What was so great about she basically just sings n is a misstress..
I love the music played behind when she wins the award
Did you catch Keira's changing smile when she clapped? lol that is so me
When Reese Witherspoon smiles I smile.
My nominees:
Judi Dench, "Mrs. Henderson Presents"
Felicity Huffman, "Transamerica"*(WINNER)
Keira Knightley, "Pride & Prejudice"
Charlize Theron, "North Country"
Naomi Watts, "King Kong"
This looks good to me. Though I agree Felicity Huffmun should've won, I have to say Judi Dench was in the worst movie of all the nominees yet she stole every scene.
Why the Academy always loves to give the award to these young actresses who are emerging without analizing anything else?
Just saw the film for the first time, she absolutely deserved this! June & Johnny woulda been proud!
Hello … thanks for the love and support ❤️ it’s nice to meet you on here, I really appreciate you for being a fan and I say a big thank you
