What a brilliant memory this brought back to me. My farther used to dance in a very similar manner on the hearth of the fire. He danced in just one spot because if he moved he would be in the fire. It was a marvellous sight, such a tall muscular man being as light as a feather while dancing. Thank you

@@andynonymous6769 This. Because this still is VERY hard. The speed is already rather high but especially hitting the tips right is something that just takes a lot of practice and seriously made me doubt my abilities when I first put my feet in heavies 10 years ago and was astound by how incredibly hard it was to get a decent 'click' out of slapping the tip against the floor, paired with the pain the shoes will bring you. Though it looks like this dancer is not wearing heavy shoes like I'm used to (these more look like tap-shoes) there's no difference in control you need over your feet. An advanced dancer can trick you into thinking he or she is wearing heavies, while in fact they are wearing softs. It's just the control they have over their that differs.

I performed in the Dickens Fair SF from 1970-1973. So many truly talented folk who don't like living in our era. Same with the renaissance Faires Northern Cal and Southern Cal. We had a
chance to perform traditional dance and music, poetry, puppetry and more which we loved, did for years, but very few places to perform. I was a ballad singer, made very little $$, but I had a place to put the wonderful 17th-19th century ballads & sea shanties. It was wonderful until the presenters "killed the goose that laid the golden egg" as one of the vendors said.

It was said my grandpa Mike Bailey could do that, even though our Scots-Irish ancestors immigrated to Virginia and North Carolina in in the Late1600's and early 1700's. As he was born in the late 1880's, that means the skill was kept alive here in America for over 200 years before it died out with my parents generation. He was also known to throw back a pint or two, but was moonshine and hopefully not drank by the pint.
