Thx Rob. I learn a lot from your publications.
Thanks Rob. I've have been hanging on to my Lightroom 5 stand alone version for years but was getting to the point where the file and catalog management was driving me to the point of insanity. I have been experimenting with most of the other editing programs and, thanks to your explanations, I have have finally decided that DXO will work for me.
Happy to help. Just keep in mind a few items missing in Photolab 6 compared to some other stuff out there. No HDR, Pano, or Focus Stacking. You basically can only work one image at a time. You can supplement these features with free software.
Thank you very much for this.
You're very welcome!
Great work, Rob. I learned a lot. I've been just using it the way it was set as default, but now I'm going to customize a little more.
Thanks!
You are a great help you have saved me hours.
Glad to help!
Danke!
Thank you!
Thanks for tutorial Rob. Photolab is my choice of editor and RAW developer
Thank you!
Very nice video. I wish this was around when I started using PL3 a while ago. :-) Looking forward to more PL videos. I'm currently bouncing between LR and PL. Both have pluses and minuses.
More to come! Thanks.
Hey Rob,
thanks a lot for your efforts!
DXOs tutorials are very few and pretty bad so your work is much appreciated!
I love PhotoLab 6 especially since DeepPrime XD works with my Fuji X-Trans files :-)
Liked and subscribed!
Best wishes!!
Thanks. I will be doing more. Let me know if there is anything you'd like to go over. Also, be sure to check out my live streams where I edit using DxO.
Sounds great! Yeah, I will stay tuned for more :-)
Thanks and cheers!
100% agree. Rob, your tutorials are the best structured and the logically presented. Thank you. 🎉
Will have a look because Rob's videos are always very interesting. However, I do a ,relative, minimum of post processing, using virtually only Snapseed.
Thanks, Robert. I appreciate your support!
Excellent overview, Rob. One tool I wish we could set a lower *default* value for is Clearview Plus. The default value of 50 seems high to me and if I use it at all I find lowering it to 25-30 is better. I see no way to change it. ??
Update: I believe you _can_ change the default value if you change the value and save it as part of your personal workspace.
I don't didn't see a way to do it directly. You make it a preset but that seems a bit overboard. I just click on the slider near 20% rather than turn on clear view via the toggle button. I wasn't able to save it to a workspace.
Hi Rob, fantastic job !!! I didn't notice wether you were editing presets or not ? Is it a good way to work ? Thank you :)
Presets can be useful if you want to get creative. They make a great starting point for your editing. I personally don't use them much for that. I made a preset to apply deep prime and optical corrections. Then I edit myself from there.
Thank you Rob, great video. Did I understand you correctly when you mentioned, "Oh, I can change the image to B&W and work on my times". Are you referring to a technique of working on your tones, get them right, then bring your colour and, thus, achieve a good result? Thanks. Peter
Yeah, I probably meant tones and not time. I actually go back and forth between working on colors vs tones. It's a process that I haven't mastered yet.
@@RobTrek thanks. I tried using a B&W version of the image and adjusting highlights, midtones, shadows & blacks. When I get a B&W image I like, I choose a colour negative from Film Pak: say Kodak Porta and I got some really good results, really quickly. Thanks, Peter.
You explained good how to select the interesting tools. But you have missed two functions I really like:
1. You can rearrange the order of the tools (when you have not selected any of the grouping icons) .
2. You can also more tools to the left side of the screen. So you can show more of the usually used tools at the same time.
Just click on the headline of the tool and drag-and-drop where is should be.
Hope this two tips are helpful.
Thanks for the tips! I think I covered those at 09:00. Let me know if that's not the case.
@@RobTrek Sorry, I have missed that.
I'v been a Lightroom user longer than I care to remember from the first of the Lightroom software, at 70 time for change and stop paying monthly payments, Now if I buy DXO Photolab 6 is it a one off payment and keep for ever? Thanks Rob..
Yes. It's a perpetual license. Currently, they are still adding new cameras and lenses to their previous Version 5. But there is no guarantee this will continue indefinitely. So keep that in mind. Also, to take advantage of the DeepPrime XD denoising, you'll need to get the Elite Version. The best deals usually come in October/November with the Black Friday sales.
Great video, do you have a quick way to edit to Instagram and Facebook?
Not really. The fastest way would be to apply a preset and do a crop. Most of my edits take 5 to 10 minutes.
Are DXO letting us resize the Presets panel yet?
Nope.
Thanks for the tutorial, My lens sharpness tab is totally gone, was there yesterday. I probably did something. Any clue how to get it back? Edit: I'm 92.5% sure when using downloaded lens config, the lens sharpness is there. I was using an EL Nikkor 80mm enlarger and it wasn't there.
Hi. The only way to lose the lens sharpness tab is if you use an unsupported camera/lens combination or you're not using a raw or jpg image with full exif. I checked here and didn't see any enlarger lenses. www.dxo.com/supported-cameras/
@@RobTrek Thanks, this makes total sense now. My Canon lenses had it, Rokinon manual didn't, Tokina did, and my enlarger lenses for UV didn't.
can you change the type size, black background .
Unfortunately, I don't see a way to do that. You can change the background color of the edit window in the preferences->display menu. But that's it.
how to customize photo order in photolab?
You can sort individual folders using the "a-z" drop down tab just above the thumbnails in the photo library workspace. There are several options there to sort by filename, extension, size, etc... There is also a filter drop down tab next to it for further culling.
@@RobTrekI know this but I want to drag the images to a new position in the sequence to change the default to sort by "Custom Order" like it's done in lightroom: ua-cam.com/video/lFz3omH70tw/v-deo.html
