I spray it on using a 2.0 tipped gun, the little Dixie (paint approved cups) by poring it into the neck of the gun. No PPS consumed. What kind of roller and pan, and what are the costs?
@@richardjones8500 Thanks. I have a body shop and am always looking foe a better way. One thing about spraying is masking every thing off. You don't have to mask the whole car, but it can get everywhere. I'll give it a try, the savings of not having to mask may out way the costs of the roller and pan. A Styrofoam plate maw work for the tray. The PPS 3M's (paint preparation system) liners are $2.50
@david rule I own a bodyshop, too. If it's a very small repaired area, maybe an inch or two. I mix a small amount according to product requirements. After doing it a few times, you will get the feel. I prefer foam type rollers.
I miss my 240Z......huge wood steering wheel and you sat 8 inches off the ground. I got a ticket for doing 90 on 101 in California. By a CHP in a mustang. 1989 I think.

This is a good idea for sandable primer ,as long as you backroll it semi wet and make sure it's even and most of all ,,, level all around ,good for hobby guys 👍
OMG! soon as i saw this I was thinking...thats a z-car!!! I still have parts I've been hauling around for 40yrs...from my 72 240 and my 74 260....someday I'll finally get to properly restore another one
This is the method we use on some aircraft that comes in for a paintjob, i always loved it because you can build more on top of it and its a lot more easier to sand. What is this kit called?
I'm curious as ti how much it settles before drying. Don't want to have to sand out all that rippling orange peel to block it out. Or...perhaps it can be sprayed on with an old Binks #7 with a large nozzle and maybe it'll lay down better.
You're mostly right - Yes, the epoxy doesn't care that its rolled vs sprayed, and we formulate it to flow out a bit as well. BUT you don't need an oven, just a room around 70F and some time.
Very little masking, I love rolling primer or just simply using a wide chip brush for smaller areas. Better than breaking out the gun, masking, risking some overspray, cleaning the gun, and tearing off the paper. Saves money.
It's a solution if you don't have the infrastructure to spray at home. You can do this outside in a driveway without needing a compressor, gun, and booth.
The whole thing is going to get blocked anyway. Puts a great thick coat down helping to level the panels. Ensuring a flawless/near flawless final & clear coat. The better you prep, the better you final result.
Look at the poor fella rolling that primer on! Even with his learning disability he is still trying. Shhhhh, no one tell him it can ve sprayed on, he thinks he doing a good job and we dont wanna hurt his feelings
I also do the color and clear with a roller. I must be good because no one ever comes back!
Roller ? Hell I barely knew her !
😂😂😂👍

It looks like this has that self-leveling technology like for some silicone. Very nice
all liquids are self leveling
I have rolled primer many times in small areas, like the size of my fist. Let dry overnight, and it blocks out just fine
I spray it on using a 2.0 tipped gun, the little Dixie (paint approved cups) by poring it into the neck of the gun. No PPS consumed. What kind of roller and pan, and what are the costs?
@david rule Lowe's 2" touch up rollers and small tray kit for a few bucks. I buy a few extra rollers.

I always wanted to try rolling on some lacquer, then wet sand and buff it .
Love this stuff
Looks so fun to work with !
When spraygun is in strike mode
You'll be sanding it anyways. Rolling makes sense if time is no issue. I like this
Is it possible with any primer ?
Also for those who don't know how to use a paint gun.
@@Maxxis1992 Um.. No it's not!
@@dinozoprano Many do, but don't have the facilities to do so.
Does your spray gun not work today?
Just clear on top it looks 👍
Love this technique
Why not? If it’s high build primer, you gotta sand it down anyways
Exactly
What grit should I sand after using epoxy primer? I am raptor lining
Check the manufacturer's instructions it will tell you what grit they prefer.

I've done this.. worked
Trust the process. Hes not rolling it like hes unsure. 😘
I’m gonna do a roll on truck bed liner paint job on my 97 outback soon, flat black… gonna look sick
Just spray it. I swear it's better I've tried both
They make good "line-x" style sprays too with all different colors and finishes. Good luck on the project!

I have painted well over 1,000 cars in my time that I have never ever one time use a roller to put on the primer, I got to try that one time at least
We just painted a mustang and used it exclusively with great results!
Good job
Yes you can do this. Its just going to be way more sanding involved 😅
This is the epoxy primer, correct? Don’t you have to follow up with a urethane primer on top of that before paint?
We offer Opti Flow in Epoxy and Urethane. Yes we recommend applying epoxy first, block, then follow up with either Urethane or High Build Primer.
I'm curious as ti how much it settles before drying. Don't want to have to sand out all that rippling orange peel to block it out.

.... what I was thinking...
I've always preferred wallpaper primer...
When I was a kid I painted my dads truck with a roller and mud for paint! He was pissed!
🤣🤣🤣
🤣
Cars...first ones their were no spray guns or dip tanks..they were hand painted
I have done complete trucks with rollers and paint brushes, added effort in final finish and nobody knew how I did it! No metallic paints!
Does it require sanding after you use the roll on primer?
Not if your looking for the "rolled" look.
what about the places a roller won't touch do you break out the brush
The kit comes with our 2k aerospray primer and small foam brushes to get those hard to reach areas.
Never seen primer applied with a roller. No over spray.
What kind of primer is that
Showing you the easy spot difficult on edges and small areas… no worry all gets sanded again.
The OptiFlow kit comes with our 2k Aerosol's as well for those hard to get areas. And you're right, it's all getting blocked again.
Primer epoxy
Tbh if you have a good baking oven this is no different for epoxy primer considering how well it levels out once it’s fully flashed off
You're mostly right - Yes, the epoxy doesn't care that its rolled vs sprayed, and we formulate it to flow out a bit as well. BUT you don't need an oven, just a room around 70F and some time.
Paint the whole thing with a brush and house paint then you can park in the closest spot at the supermarket and touch up with latex.
What about roll on finish?
Can you do this with an epoxy primer?
If it's our OptiFlow Roll On Epoxy Primer you can. We have it in epoxy and urethane.
I asked my grandpa and he said "hell yea"
Neat
Sweet Datsun! 240?
Good eye!
Liking because Datsun
This is so crazy
Holy bondo batman, ever hear of a hammer?
Makes sense to me n
I hope it's sand able, that texture in a final 😬
Yes OptiFlow is designed to be sanded as with nearly all primers laid down before paint.
I've started brushing on a lot a paint. It's much easier. Of course you can't brush or roll the final coat
Sorry guys been doing this for years. Also you can get good results by hand painting as well. It just depends on the situation.
Very little masking, I love rolling primer or just simply using a wide chip brush for smaller areas. Better than breaking out the gun, masking, risking some overspray, cleaning the gun, and tearing off the paper. Saves money.

Orange peel city 🤣
Eastwood free samples??? I'll post it wherever...... Just a pint or two???
Just seems wrong... yeah wrong.
Would be some serious FLA to block...
I see air getting trapped in this
Did this many times when you only doing dent repair - spot repair. I used a brush because it's easy to clean.
15 year ago.....
Yep gotta block it out anyway why not
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😊😊
Why though?
If you're afraid of guns then maybe this is your thing?
It's a solution if you don't have the infrastructure to spray at home. You can do this outside in a driveway without needing a compressor, gun, and booth.
Any solvent pop issues?
I can only imagine the "orange peel" effect on the paint surface... 🤦
Orange pill?
Hey goober
Since when did ridiculous amounts of bondo become the norm? Every time I see a video of paint work there’s copious amounts of body filler on it
You use enough to be able to block it properly. I’ll bet you are one of those guys who spends 8 hrs tapping out every Little Rock chip.
I want to see more !
Have fun block sanding all the orange peel
mostly self leveling, but yes, sanding is mostly advised depending on final results desired.
@@gateaccess818 if you going for that basketball look then no reason to block youll be good...
