  • Is it a one product wonder?!?! 😱
    After seeing all the comments on my last flaxseed gel video, I felt a second one was in order. In today's video I'm sharing the whole process (again) of how I make and use homemade flaxseed gel on my curly (3c) hair. But this time, as a REGULAR GEL instead of as a treatment/experiment lol. I was surprised by the results, to say the least. Hope you enjoy the video!

    When I make flaxseedgel (MY RIDE OR DIE😍) then I make a lot of it and what I don’t use in yet, I put in an ice cube tray and freeze it in. It stays good in the freezer for months. And when I need the gel, I take a few cubes out the freezer the night before. Its perfect👌🏽

    This is the only gel I use that replaced three ... the leave in conditioner, store bought gel and store bought oil for shine. Just blot dry my hair, section into smaller sections and finger comb it through the hair and crunch it. Let dry natural or use the defuser for more volume. Once dry, the curls are shiny and bouncy. It is the only gel i use now😊

      you can use it as a leave in?

    You're probably not gonna see this but I HIGHLY recommend you strain it (while it's still hot) using a regular metal strainer.. soooo easy and not messy at all

    • @goldensand4575
      @goldensand4575 4 місяці тому

      Very true. It should be like that. Flax seed should be strained when it is hot by an ordinary strainer. No need of using any cloths. And then you can keep it in the refrigerator.

  • @plee6223
    @plee6223 2 роки тому +25

    Flaxseed gel thickens when it cools. You don’t need to boil it so long. If you strain the gel when it is hot, using a strainer it is easy to get the seeds out. I strain it into a measuring cup so I can pour it into a container.

    I used to use only aloe vera gel which was good enough but I recently started using flax seed gel which was better. Then I have added nolan cactus gel which is also sooo good. The moisture is extreme when I mix all 3 gels together and use.

    Nice video! Flaxseed gel is a humectant. It needs to be used before any leave in and oil otherwise it wont penetrate and hydrate the hair well. And it will dry off.

    Im here from that other video... I was so shook that you really used a gel as a hair treatment. lol Idk who asked but you really stuck it out for us doin that challenge 💪🏽😅.. Thanks for showing how it would work as an actual gel! looks bomb and now I just might have to try. Do you think it works in humidity?

    • @stylebyariel
      @stylebyariel  3 роки тому +11

      Thanks girl! You gotta try it. I let my hair air dry outside in the humid summer weather and these are still the results I got! It’s my new favorite. Just made another fresh batch to use it again 😁

    • @jessy9514
      @jessy9514 2 роки тому +1

      Live in Texas where the humidity gets about 60% and I'd say get a mousse or something with hold because flaxseed by itself doesn't have much. It'll hold for about half a day after it's dried and then start getting frizzy.

    Thank you for showing the entire process because I’ve been looking for something to keep my hair moist and help with hair growth for so long and both your videos on the diy flaxseed gel were so well produced and informative. I would’ve done the same thing as you did before using the gel as a treatment rather than a regular styling gel. Happy mistakes make for teachable moments :) Happy new year!

    I followed Mrs Alba Ramos' flax seed gel diy and love it. She uses nut milk bags to strain the gel (which seems to work much better than just cheesecloth). I only had cheesecloth so after my struggle effort I decided to sew the sides of a couple of pieces of my cheesecloth material to create something more user friendly. ☺️

      Add in some boiled corn starch. Don’t add in any other products because by doing that you are dealing in the cuticle and blocking the hair from taking up the gel. It is just sitting on top of the hair. No conditioner. No leave in conditioner. The gel is your conditioner.

    coincidently stumbled into this video just after researching on flaxseeds. The reason I believe the first sttempt worked because flaxseed oxidises if left open. it needs to be used up promptly. It worked the first time as you used it soon after.

    I use the cheap knee high stockings, they cost about $.50 a pair and are reusable. I let my gel cool for about an hour before I pour into the stocking that I have stretched over a large measuring cup. After I get it all into the stocking, I take it off the cup and squeeze out all of the gel into the cup, from there I pour it into a mason jar.
