Here at Alaska Raft Connection... the Cold Steel Spartan has been a great folding knife for me over the years. It's an extremely rugged and reliable design. I primarily use it as a river knife for demanding Whitewater conditions/ classifications. I'll often use this when I'm Creature Crafting. Creature Crafts are self-righting boats designed for very difficult Whitewater Rivers, low-head Dam rescues, and surf rescues. I will also use Spartan as a backup to a fixed blade for my services of floatplane recoveries that also are typically in cold water demanding environments and calling for specialized equipment selection sorts of conditions. My Spartan is an original model. I can't say I have experience with the newer offerings. Pretty much all of my cold steel knives go back to Cold Steel Days other than the sr1 light that I think is likely one of the highest value to lower-cost most durable, dependable folders you can get and 'super importantly' having the reliable Triad lock. I do have a Rajah 2 blackout version, but I must admit I keep that pretty minty clean. Supposedly, it's somewhat of a collectible nowadays. Spartan is on another level durability wise, as well as the grip/handle shape/features really lock you in when you're working in wet, frigid cold conditions. Spartan has a good heft, handful, balance, and overall working feel about it. In one word --- trustworthy.
I have been carrying a cold steel spartan for more than 12 years and it is a heck of a folder, not only is an excellent utility knife but also a good self defense tool if the level of force required is needed and the use of a firearm is inadequate 😎👍
Nailed it. 😂 If a knife isn't meant for hard use, it's hardly a knife. So I just avoid folders. However, this is the one I'll never regret purchasing. It's just super cool and functional.
I have the Rajah 2 XL, and the Espada G10 XL. And Lynn Thompson actually said the Espada is a fighting knife. The Rajah 2 is not to far behind. I usually carry one or the other when I go out. They open so fast when you pull it from your pocket, its scary. Also, unlike a sheath knife, if its in your pocket, no one knows you have it, until you need it.
I had a knife problem for over 20 years, but I’ve been thinning out the collection lately as there are too many and gathering dust. I sold 4 Microtechs, a Medford TFF-1, and a Grimsmo Norseman in the last two weeks with no regrets. I then bought a Barlow from Red Hill Cutlery…you have to get off the addiction in increments.😉
Have had a regular spartan for many years- didn’t know there was a serrated- thanks! Gonna get one. Thompson says his serrations cut 30% deeper. I believe it.
I’ve always thought the spartan was an awesome blade, but I mainly trust fixed blades. Just yesterday I was on Amazon considering buying a spartan. Now after your video I’ll definitely buy one. Thanks brother
Great video! Totally agree with what you said about these knives. I’m a fan of the handles. You definitely don’t wanna come close to a knifaholic human lawnmower 😂😂😂
I've had that same knife for years now and I love it. It is an awesome knife. It opens from the pocket like The Wave style and has a very smooth action for one hand deployment. You're going to love that knife my friend. Cold steel has so many nice knives I'm afraid if I go on their site for too long I'm going to go broke. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. I never really looked at Cold Steel until one of your videos. I learned that I can get a nice quality knife that's not going to break the bank. I have a hard time justifying spending $200-$300 on a knife like Benchmade.
I have the medium hold out with a aftermarket wave feature on it. It lays very flat in my pocket lightweight easy to carry. I also like my safe Maker 2 that are rigged up with a paracord shoulder rig that hangs horizontal under my armpit.
Oh yeah! I was telling you a while back that you needed to check this one out. So solid that it is basically a fixed blade. Only thing is the weight, it is a bit heavy for day to day.
If youre looin at other cold steels... get the Voyager xl drop point, the blade is heavy enough that you can just "whip" it out in one motion, awesome larger blade great at everything including self defense because of how fast you can just "whip" it and the blade flys out. AK 47 is my fav 3.5" blade just a classic. AD10 tanto is an awesome beefy knife (they make a lite version too.) And finally the Talwar XL is incredible. Highly recommend all of them.
My favorite Cold Steel folder is the Recon 1. It must be, I have 4 of them. 3 different versions from different eras. All of the different blade shapes.
I just ordered the bird & game, the exact opposite tiny knife. Yes I’m a knife alcoholic lol just ask my wife. I keep telling her they’re Homestead knives she says that’s what you said about the last 30 lol now I got my eyes on these two thanks for promoting these knives. They’re awesome and in a self-defense situation. I don’t think anybody’s gonna care about what steel they are. Stay safe.
Currently I carry my cold steel verdict in aus-10. I carry it for work even though they tell me I can't, just because it's a good working blade that has high Corrosion resistance. I also carry my ka-bar investigator when I walk home from work when it's dark out.
You could not have chosen a better Set of Knives from Cold steel to display, Yes after Speaking with Lynn Thompson with Scab he said straight-out and simple, his designs were made for knives that will save your life. fighting, defense & survival...doesn't tip-Toe around that...AUS 10A is GOOOOD....get the Emerson!!!!
I used to prefer folders, but not interested as much now. So when looking for a folder, for those necessary times, I don't want to spend a ton of $$. This is the range of folder I prefer. This one looks really good to me, thanks. The Emerson's, though sweet, are pricey. Being on a fixed income is a practical treatment for KAA, lol.
I just picked up a frenzy and let me tell you it’s a pocket sword and so light …. Also love my black talon 2 and counter tac 1 just brutal knives no frills
I got the Black Talon for the GF for xmass lol, if you love the Spartan you should also look into the TALWAR now that is an amazing blade and now my go to EDC
Always wanted one. Never made the purchase. Really oughtta just do it. Though, since Lynn backed out, i worry about quality control. Heard some horror stories.
Haha you finally caved in lol. A friend of mine gifted me one recently, I shipped it to Tom Veff for some custom serrations, check the guy out, if you're into serrations he's n1. They're very sharp, easy to clean and to touch up.
Since I love Khukuri's, the Rajah 2 XL is my favorite. I've seen people on UA-cam do some crazy things with them. And yes, that triad lock, might fail, but you'd have to be doing something really stupid with the knife.
I like cold steel remember the knife challenge, cold steel bushman and folder buck110 and a case trapper ,I could survive with these particular knives, just a opinion, what do I know, just a city man,but been around for a minute 😂

Talwar xl serrated is probably the nastiest thing they ever built as a folding fighter. Just perfection

Well done Brother! I love my CS Spartan and Raja II for heavy work folders
The spartan is my favorite knife 😎🤙

Love the look. Not much sense in buying anything with steel in it they’re banding certain shovels too here in Canada , what a sad world.
Love the Spartan, I carry it sometimes, but for me the American Lawman is what I carry most.
I’m a small guy so it’s not very comfortable in the pocket, but it is close at hand when on the road.
Congrats on 100k!
We have similar tastes in blades. Thanks for sharing another great video.
Love my spartan, it eats all types of woodery in my yard and begs for more with every chop.

Outstanding reviews on a outstanding folder💯🗡️🏆
I like the new Spartan Blade design with the full flat blade and it is cool to see a serrated version ,plus the gray scales look nice also. 😊
Agreed!
I’ve always thought the spartan was an awesome blade, but I mainly trust fixed blades. Just yesterday I was on Amazon considering buying a spartan. Now after your video I’ll definitely buy one. Thanks brother
Good stuff 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Darn,,, ya got me thinking about the Spartan again. Have over 20 Cold Steel products,, but just haven't pulled that trigger,,,,Yet !

Cold steel makes the best weapon grade knives by far …. Especially for the money
I agree I would be a blade addict to.
I have the medium hold out with a aftermarket wave feature on it. It lays very flat in my pocket lightweight easy to carry. I also like my safe Maker 2 that are rigged up with a paracord shoulder rig that hangs horizontal under my armpit.

Pocket bushman folding knife is one of my favorites to carry.
I love this channel so much! Great review! I share your excitement and passion!
Glad you enjoy it!

411....😂😂😂maintenant tu ressembles à un ours avec ta barbe !
Big Kiss to FRANCE ❤
Amazing Spartan 💪😍👍
I have 50 cold steels
Spartan is my favorite large cold steel, its 4.5" blade is bigger than most and its way cheaper than most large cold steels knives
If youre looin at other cold steels... get the Voyager xl drop point, the blade is heavy enough that you can just "whip" it out in one motion, awesome larger blade great at everything including self defense because of how fast you can just "whip" it and the blade flys out. Cold steel is the best I’ve seen
Currently I carry my cold steel verdict in aus-10. I carry it for work even though they tell me I can't, just because it's a good working blade that has high Corrosion resistance. I also carry my ka-bar investigator when I walk home from work when it's dark out.

I have the Lynn T spartan and it is a beast!! More premium materials too. All are great knives tho.

I prefer fixed blades but with my job a fixed blade edc just gets in the way too much so I have a spartan for edc

""the human lawn mower""😁👍
👍
Wouldn't have a cold steel smatchet laying around you want to get rid of?
I sure don’t have one, my friend
Nice Spartans! I don't have one, but I do have a Rajah II and a serrated Talwar 5.5. Any of them will do the job. ⚔️
Hi. My name is Daniel, and I'm a knifeaholic.
