My two cents worth: I think it is a great movie. A really nice take on Batman in the early stages of his career (I think this was his second year at it). The little details like his narration, the journal he kept, his basic arsenal, and the general sense of hesitation and unsureness he has really sold this take on the character. Regarding the movie: it was a real treat to see a live action Batman Film that focuses on the crime, the mystery, piecing together clues and evidence to solve the "riddle"(or crime, for that matter), and is something I really wanted to see in a Batman flick, not the action packed violence we had from previous batfilms. He's called The World's Greatest Detective, and it was nice to see him in his element, even if was made to look like he was just starting out. That said, I think this noir style film mostly works because it's The Riddler he's up against. I would love to have the same take of an layers of orchestrated crime with a different enemy, perhaps even with The Joker, in a future film. I really enjoyed the movie. I def felt the length when I was watching this movie in theatres but it kept changing im between "oh wow it's still going" to "please don't tell me it's already ending." It is an extremely long movie.
I feel like the Joker's inclusion in the movie could be a mandate by WB. Still, it would be cool to see if this version somehow ties in with the Joker movie. Overall, the Batman is pretty good. My biggest gripe is the length with some scenes feel like it dragged out for too long. Some of them are great like the Batmobile's reveal while others could trimmed down a bit shorter like the final scene between Selina and Batman. Even good dragged out scenes like the Riddler's first appearance spying on the mayor could be trimmed down a few seconds. Not to mention Batman being able to take an explosion and a crash fairly unscathed. Yeah, and also the white privilege line. Granted, it's a theme in Batman stories to show how corrupt Gotham is, including the Telltale games where Bruce's parents are fully corrupt. This take on Batman is also interesting since he seems much, much inexperienced compared to the others. It's really implied his training and knowledge only came from Alfred, seeing how many punches and bullets he has been taking. It's possible that for two years Batman has only been after thugs while keeping eyes on figures of interest like the Penguin until the movie where they first met, with the Riddler being his first supervillain he ever faced. Even with the gliding scene, Robert's acting implies that that was his first time doing that. Plus, his gadgets are much low tech with that DIY feel to it.
His only gadgets were his grappling hook (which I think this is the most we've ever seen of it in a movie) and his contacts. Unless you count his chest knife.
I honestly didn't mind the length nor pacing of the film, if anything I wish it was longer to flesh our Aldfred and the Wayne's reputation before and after the riddler exposes Thomas' deal with Falcone, so that reveal would have had more impact in my opinion, and the white privilege line makes sense for Catwoman to say, I know that the internet ruined conversations about stuff like white priviledge and such, but this isn't a stupid tweet, it was a person genuinely angry at the shit hole that took her mom and friend's lives, it makes sense for her to say that, she doesn't sound like some writers' mouthpiece for the sake of "clever social commentary", it felt pretty natural. I also highly appreciate how Robin Pattinson was in costume for most of the runtime, with no maskless climax bullshit and you really don't see much of Bruce Wayne, Batman really was the focus of the film, and it was interesting to see a story that actually acknowledges how someone like Batman would inspire serial killers and shit if he was real, and the parallels between him and the Riddler and his terrorist supporters, making Batman question his methods and ethic, I was really tired of the Gary Stue Batman of recent years.

I really liked this portrayal of Batman. Kind of reminded me of the Animated batman from 92 where he had more of a human side to him and kindness instead of just being stoic and brute forcing everything. Also, wish they would have Cameron Monaghan reprise the role of the Joker. He did an amazing Job on Gotham. (I know they couldn't legally use the name but, that doesn't change the fact that he was indeed the series Joker)
This movie was fantastic, and the set up for follow up films is amazing. BUT… my only real problem was the Riddler didn’t really feel like the Riddler, he felt like the directors put too much of the Jokers personality in him
@@soundwavesuperior6761 I totally agree with Raz and Bane, but I personally think the TDK take on the Joker pulled the truest form of his goals than they could on comics and cartoons, and part of that is that I think they dumbed him down for kids in those forms
I disagree, I think this Riddler is very different from most incarnations of Joker. Riddler *did* start off as a Joker rip-off which only increased tenfold after Frank Gorshin's portrayal of him in the Adam West show. It was the Animated Series and following comics that made him a more unique and nuanced character. The thing that separates Joker from Riddler is that Riddler isn't nearly as evil for the sake of it, relies much more on his intelligence, is comparitively terrible at reading other people despite being great at deductive reasoning, and is arguably even more of a narccicistic attention whore (Joker loves the attention and fears being forgotten, but it is not the only motivation for his entire being like Riddler, and Joker's capable of committing mundane crimes that don't draw attention to himself). All those traits are in full display in Dano's Riddler.
@@soundwavesuperior6761 this is so true. Heath’s performance was outstanding but saying the character he was playing was a far cry from your average comic book Joker. And that’s good. I like it when movies put their own twist on these characters when it’s done well.
In the comics riddler is super sick in his head like this movie in the start. He turns to goofy later on but in his backstory you can see how absoultetly mad he is

Star Wars Disney+ shows are actually pretty contained, they're not pumping out movies on a yearly basis anymore, and their TV Shows are all connected to each other, basically the MCU, but only TV Shows, so it's hard to point the finger at Star Wars. Marvel on the other hand? Well, if you wanna understand Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness, you need to have seen WandaVision, or else you're going in blind and the movie has to find a way to catch you up, while you're watching the movie.
really glad to hear you enjoyed the movie mr Jobby, it's nice to have a good batman on live action, also, I really liked the interrogation scene of the riddler and how the manchild tantrum vanishes as soon as he feels in control of the situation once again, that line of "you didn't figured it out" with the music build up was amazing and it baffles me how good of a riddler Paul Dano was and the version of the character we saw on the movie
In the prequel books, they said that Alfred did trained Bruce at a young age and then Bruce went around the world learning different martial arts as an adult
This movie had a lot of passion and love for Batman's comics put into it, even the whole atmosphere and Batman/Bruce's character arc felt to me like a parallel to Batman Begins and Arkham Origins.
As I age I find longer movies to be more enjoyable, as long as it's done right. I thought the length was perfect for the story they told as we immerse ourselves into this new Gotham.
I see the movie actually is a mix between the "Long Halloween" and "Batman Year One" graphic novels which aimed to have Batman in his humble beginnings before he trained with ninjas and shit. And Bobby Pattinson actually did a good job as a young Bruce and as a newbie Batman. If anything Batman is actually edgier and downright angsty in Batman Year One.
12:52 "Violence not for the sake of violence, but for dramatic weight. Kinda unrelated, but I feel that Invincible does a great job at utilizing ultra violence to raise the stakes of a story." *JOBBY, YOU SHOULD WATCH GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY'S PRIMAL-*
Not that it matters-- but I worked in a production studio while I was in High School and they had me read off teleprompters. The key is that whatever you are reading has to be all capitalized, and also you need to essentially read the text as it comes to you, not read it as you see it. This is so your eyes don't dart up, down, right, and left. There are other factors like the scroll speed that you have to take into consideration but once you find your groove it's super easy.
I don’t know if you caught it, but when the bat mobile stalled for a hot minute before it took off after the penguin…classic and funny as heck😂. Also Catwoman in the comic was originally back. Check out Batman Year One…which the movie was loosely based off of.
I love you man my mom died a month ago and you make me happy instead of sad bro you don't know how much you have helped me through this just know I love you man
He was unfamiliar with the carpet tucking tool simply because he was a rich guy. He doesn't clean or do anything in the mansion. His servant does these things.
I loved the movie. Although a part of me can't wait until it comes out to put some linkin park over some scenes. But my god was is that soundtrack memorable. One thing you kind of mentioned that I feel could have been talked about more is how DIY this batman feels, and how much he's still learning (case in point the bridge part). It helps with this universe and villain and him having all the knowledge and gadgets could have taken it down a bit.
In the prequel novel, it states that Bruce does travel around the world learning various martial arts in addition to what Alfred might have taught him.
This Batman adaptation is pretty much based on the earth 1 series where Martha Wayne is an Arkham and Alfred trains Bruce, yes not traditional but that is the earth 1 storyline "aka Alternate world" so it might not be familiar but interesting none the less.
I loved this movie, but I do wish they could have gone R rated to add more weight to scenes, at least at the level of the Gotham TV series that actually did had some gory moments. I wish they didn't went straight to Joker at the end scene... like give another Villain the spot light, Scarecrow got shafted in the Nolan Trilogy; so many opportunities for surreal nightmarish visuals but wasted the opportunity. Still I was surprised they're making a spin-off series, I'm pretty interested in seeing that. I really do wish this movie was at least connected to JOKER (2019) Like the tone of both of these movies feel like they can so easily connect and would make an interesting relationship between Batman and Joker much like in the TellTales games
Fun fact: the "Edward Nashton" name was actually used in the comics before. It's usage in comics was as the Riddler's original surname before he changed it, retconing it so the "E. Nigma" pun was a choice on his part. Which honestly fits with his character; he always a narcissistic attention seeker that wants to feel superior to everyone, so changing his own name to be a pun probably made him feel clever.
I'm still not okay to go to the movie theatre (living in a legit third world with seriously questionable vaccine and health protocols) and waiting to watch the movie on HBO Max stream next month but fuck it, if I'm going to be spoiled, better with Jobby.
" I'MMM NOTTTT OKKAAAYYY, I'M NOT OKAYyyYY" LOL. this movie was badass. I felt Paul Dano got a little too whiney in parts but he was good. 3 hours long and I was never bored
Batman: Earth One does not get enough credit for influencing this movie. Some of the elements are straight from the pages, including the look of Alfred, the backstory of him teaching Bruce to fight, and Arkham heritage in Bruce.
The riddler goons at the end, reminded me of the lego games (and the arkham series), like how the villians goons had outfits that represented their villian.
Edward Nashton actually is The Riddler’s real name. Edward Nigma was just an on-the-nose alias for him. Even Batman TAS pretty much joked about how E. Nigma was “A play on his name.”
I honestly just really enjoyed this movie to a surprising degree. From the trailers it didn't seem like much, and thought it'd just be a midtier Batman movie, 7 or 8/10. But man was I happy to be wrong. It really did feel like such a well balanced Batman movie to me, and despite the length I never felt tires myself... though after drinking a large Soda I definitely did start to notice. But yeah I absolutely loved the aesthetic, and the cinematography, and just the overall presentation of Gotham, and the relationship between the city and the Batman. How his vigilantism (if that's a word) and how the city reacts to it, how the criminals react to it, and how that relationship evolves and changes by the end of the film is just mmmmm Chef's kiss. I loved the nice balance between the Detective work and the action instead of it being too asked to either side, and with that just how enthralling the mystery was, and how it unraveled kept me glued to the screen. The film may seem a but bloated but just the overall flow of events and said mystery unraveling was just so nice to sit and watch. And how everything ties together, it's feels like what playing a Dark Souls game feels like when you find all these paths thar intertwine together... very specific analogy, I know, but it's what I felt. And oh again just the sound design, and the cinematography just MMMM that shit good. And if we're talking about sound design... we all know what comes to mind. The fuckin Batmobile. God the sound that thing makes feels like Sex in my ears. Fuuuuuck. But yeah I could gush about the film a lot... it's still hard to say if it's my overall favorite Batman film, but it's definitely up there, and I loved it. Does it have flaws oh yeah. Like Batman and Catwomans relationship... kinda just rushed and forced, felt like if they were gonna have a kiss shoulda just saved it for the end when they had at least more growth together, not like "damn my girl pal just got kidnapped but I told you bout my daddy issues so let's kiss" but aight, as well as... as much as I fuckin live the Batmobile scene... there really was no justification for that, Bruce you totally just got a bunch of people killed for no reason. But besides that and a few other issues, like the film feeling just the tiniest bit too bloated for some, I legitimately have no other criticisms for the film it was absolutely outstanding. Only thing is I really really wanna see a sequel where Bruce has developed the Bruce Wayne persona more and get to see him alternate between that and Batman as he uses the guise of Bruce Wayne to also help him with Batman business more. That will help me figure out if Pattinson is my new definitive Batman cause rn he's definitely up there
Jobby they released a prequel novel that follows Bruce Wayne in his teenage years that he traveled the world studying different martial arts but he disguised it as him traveling to study different majors for college.
I saw this movie just today and it’s a pretty good film for the most part. Regardless, is it as better as The Dark Knight, no. However, it’s still a good Batman film since it.

The Batman is a good film. I highly recommend it to anyone. My only issue are: Catwoman's mask. It's too goofy. I couldn't take her seriously. And John Turturro. I've only known him as a comedic actor and I couldn't take him seriously as well. But everyone and everything was alright in the end.

To be fair Riddler was always a discount joker until much much later and he still isn’t really out from under the shadow
Riddler didn't seem like joker at all, what the hell is this comment
I was literally binge watching Jobby’s videos and saw this come up, epic
Lol I loved the music joke. I actually came out complaining about bruce looking more like "My Chemical BatMan". Great vid
In the comics riddler is super sick in his head like this movie in the start. He turns to goofy later on but in his backstory you can see how absoultetly mad he is
These movie reviews are always neat to hear from you, because it’s something you don’t get to hear often time. I still love my toy reviews, but once in a while. A movie review is fun
DC made a prequel book for The Batman and it explains more of the character origins for example did you know that Riddle works for doordash?
There’s a prequel novel you can read which explains his origin story an the riddlers origin. It’s a cool book
What is the novel called?
@@psychobratt Before the Batman: An Original Movie Novel
Oh that reference to the cartoon at the beginning brought back so many memories
The theme lyrics : im the batman, im the batman, im the batman, IM THE BATMAN!
Barry “Kee-oh-an” is a great actor and his reveal as the Joker was great, I guess we just gotta give him a chance and see what happens from here y’know?
I at first thought the Penguin was played by Danny Devito.
Well, if you wanna understand Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness, you need to have seen WandaVision, or else you're going in blind and the movie has to find a way to catch you up, while you're watching the movie.
mid-2000s jobby is a character i’d like to see incorporated into the jobby-verse lmao.
HOMY SHIT, my little doodle was featured at the end, im honored jobby
really glad to hear you enjoyed the movie mr Jobby, it's nice to have a good batman on live action, also, I really liked the interrogation scene of the riddler and how the manchild tantrum vanishes as soon as he feels in control of the situation once again, that line of "you didn't figured it out" with the music build up was amazing and it baffles me how good of a riddler Paul Dano was and the version of the character we saw on the movie
0:03 that series was legendary
As I age I find longer movies to be more enjoyable, as long as it's done right. I thought the length was perfect for the story they told as we immerse ourselves into this new Gotham.
I like how when the penguin waddles when he was tied up.
I genuinely can’t wait for the sequel I also hope he travels across the world to train in the next one
The riddler in this movie was more like Hush than the riddler. When it mentioned the reporters name I thought Hush was where it was going.
12:52 "Violence not for the sake of violence, but for dramatic weight. Kinda unrelated, but I feel that Invincible does a great job at utilizing ultra violence to raise the stakes of a story."
*JOBBY, YOU SHOULD WATCH GENNDY TARTAKOVSKY'S PRIMAL-*
Not that it matters-- but I worked in a production studio while I was in High School and they had me read off teleprompters. The key is that whatever you are reading has to be all capitalized, and also you need to essentially read the text as it comes to you, not read it as you see it. This is so your eyes don't dart up, down, right, and left. There are other factors like the scroll speed that you have to take into consideration but once you find your groove it's super easy.
Love it that Drophead in the beginning of the intro robbing grocery stores dress like Connie in Good Time. 11:00 every 2000 hair ever tho
That car chase…DAY-YUM IT WAS AWESOME
I would really love for jobby to do more of these movie reviews like Pacific rim or other movies you like
I don’t know if you caught it, but when the bat mobile stalled for a hot minute before it took off after the penguin…classic and funny as heck😂. Also Catwoman in the comic was originally back. Check out Batman Year One…which the movie was loosely based off of.
I love you man my mom died a month ago and you make me happy instead of sad bro you don't know how much you have helped me through this just know I love you man
I loved this movie, great cinematography and performances. Going to see it one more time in cinema soon.
3:38 not even Age of Extinction had this many endings
He was unfamiliar with the carpet tucking tool simply because he was a rich guy. He doesn't clean or do anything in the mansion. His servant does these things.
My Boi I never thought you would do another review I look forward to more in the future keep it up JOBBY
I loved the subtle Adam West Batman references
In the prequel novel, it states that Bruce does travel around the world learning various martial arts in addition to what Alfred might have taught him.
Watching it for my second time this night, so glad I could spend my morning listening to your review. Have a good day Jobby!
i swear, the moment i saw Turturro i just wanted to stand up and scream "the enemy scrotum"
This Batman adaptation is pretty much based on the earth 1 series where Martha Wayne is an Arkham and Alfred trains Bruce, yes not traditional but that is the earth 1 storyline "aka Alternate world" so it might not be familiar but interesting none the less.
All I can hear after leaving the theatre is something in the way
I loved this movie, but I do wish they could have gone R rated to add more weight to scenes, at least at the level of the Gotham TV series that actually did had some gory moments.
Matt wanted it to be rated r but I guess there wasn’t enough stuff to make it r rated.
I can't believe 8:39 would eventually become the notorious mob boss Carmine Falcone.
I'm still not okay to go to the movie theatre (living in a legit third world with seriously questionable vaccine and health protocols) and waiting to watch the movie on HBO Max stream next month but fuck it, if I'm going to be spoiled, better with Jobby.
i just realized that there's Amplified Batman behind Jobby
Who else is glad to see that John Turturro is getting back as casting?
From robot cars to bats
"Bumblebee, stop lubricating the man!"
“Niggma balls”
Jobby-2022 😂
“Something in may @ss”
" I'MMM NOTTTT OKKAAAYYY, I'M NOT OKAYyyYY" LOL. this movie was badass. I felt Paul Dano got a little too whiney in parts but he was good. 3 hours long and I was never bored
Batman: Earth One does not get enough credit for influencing this movie. Some of the elements are straight from the pages, including the look of Alfred, the backstory of him teaching Bruce to fight, and Arkham heritage in Bruce.
For the record the Batmobile scene theme is called "Highway to the Anger Zone" fucking. Perfect.
The Batman in this film was done good. Bruce Wayne, however, was lacking.
11:55-12:00 I feel ya man! 😂 Great review by the way!
The riddler goons at the end, reminded me of the lego games (and the arkham series), like how the villians goons had outfits that represented their villian.
Those old photos of Jobby = GOLD!
Edward Nashton actually is The Riddler’s real name. Edward Nigma was just an on-the-nose alias for him. Even Batman TAS pretty much joked about how E. Nigma was “A play on his name.”
Giacchino is pronounced "Giac-Kino". With Italian names and words, the "Ch" together act very similarly like the "K" letter.
Fun fact about the Riddler: His actual name is Edward Nashton, but he changed his last name to Nigma sometime later.
Commenting rn to support the channel! Good video Jobby!
I saw this movie just today and it’s a pretty good film for the most part. Regardless, is it as better as The Dark Knight, no. However, it’s still a good Batman film since it.
The best part of this video: I'm noooot okkkkkkk, IM NOT OKKKKKKKK!!!!!!
They filmed a couple sets in my city (Funeral/ Police HQ) and the BTS photos of batman in his glider suit on top of the Liver Building look weirdly cute
The fact that your doing another is a God send to me!
7:43 one of the best moments in the movie
In a prequel novel, it was revealed that Bruce Wayne traveled the world jumping from college to college and as he traveled he learned each countries’ form of martial arts.
I just watched the batman for the first time today and this video drops.
Great timing
As a trained actor I agree with your assessment on Pattison's acting. I believe that The Batman is a great movie because, first, is not your typical super hero movie, second, it's directed beatifully, leading to great acting and third, the music score is amazing.
You review and critique of this movie is on ponit. Great, keep up the awesome reviews, toys or movies.
12:00 I saw both BoBF and the mandalorian with my mom and it was alright. I just wonder how that next season of mando might end up.
Also free guy was pretty good and funny, so WYM at the end?
I think because it’s batmans early years it makes sense that he doesn’t have his worldly knowledge etc being fluent in other languages and being able to tell a flesh light from a Pringles can, and it could be a future plot point on how whilst he becomes a symbol of justice instead of vengeance he also develops his skills
11:49
Nobody tell Jobby about the Penguin show coming to HBOMax
Eddie Nashton was the riddler's birth name and Edward Nigma was his first fake name then followed by riddler when he finally snapped
