Jana should have watched the video to this song......it would have teared her up. It does to me every time I watch it, even though I have no reference to it. Just one of those songs and videos that needs to be listened/watched together. Drive Home off the same album needs both song and video for Jana. SW and PT are the BEST. Great show Nathan and Jana.
Good morning Nathan and Jana. Well I think Jana nailed the interpretation of the music. Little roller-coasters turning into bigger ones. Great reaction guys! Have an awesome Sunday!🎠🎡🎢🎪😎
As others are saying, the video to this is beautiful. He worked with an artist on this video who also worked with him on Drive Home and Routine. These are the only music videos to ever make me cry (not even sad films have that effect on me). I really suggest that you both check them out at some point as then it will be a fresh reaction for both of you. Great interpretation too!
It's a magnificent album and this song sits the end of if. When you listen to the whole thing, this song in its measured simplicity and soaring finish feels like a real reward.
ABOUT THE RAVEN THAT REFUSED TO SING The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories) is the third solo album by Steven Wilson, released by Kscope on 25 February 2013. Each track on the album is based on a story of the supernatural. Alan Parsons, who had previously been involved in the creation of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, was responsible for engineering the album. “The title track explores the story of an old man at the end of his life who is waiting to die. He thinks back to a time in his childhood when he was incredibly close to his older sister. She was everything to him, and he was everything to her. Unfortunately, she died when they were both very young. The man becomes convinced that a raven, who visits the man’s garden, is something of a symbol or a manifestation of his sister. The thing is, his sister would sing to him whenever he was afraid or insecure, and it was a calming influence on him. In his ignorance, he decides that if he can get the raven to sing to him, it will be the final proof that this is, in fact, his sister who has come back to take him with her to the next life.”
Fun fact: the music was recorded live, not in bits and mixed together, and the producer was the engineer who worked on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. All the songs are ghost stories, and this one deals with an old man who believes the soul of his dead sister is visiting him as a raven.
Platypus was a band collaboration between members of Dream theather , kings`s X and dixie dregs. If you`re not familiar with king`s X, do your selves a favour and check them out! Opeth, Dream theather and King`s X are my top heavy bands with loads of progressive influences
Calling this a "ballad" is obviously a bit misleading. It starts off plaintive and somber but then builds to that huge dream pop climax (SW has often named My Bloody Valentine as an influence.) But yeah -- definitely see the video. Just have some Kleenex handy.
Steven Wilson's songs and composes and producing - are flawless and remarkable in each aspect, for the most part.
Non manufacturing is necessary!
Great reaction that 😁 Wilson is a genius 😁👍 would love to see Jana react to the routine song and video 😉

Thank you! I'll have to remember for our next Steven Wilson pick to do the video along with it.

2 more songs from Steven is a must hear.... 1- Home Invasion / Regret #9 /// 2-Drive Home
Drive home would also be another great SW song to do. Would suggest with video.
Great reaction! Love Steven Wilson. Do more! ;)

We'll definitely consider looking at the videos, especially when we get to 'Drive Home' and 'Routine'!

Maybe watch the official video to get more of a meaning about the raven. The whole album is about ghost stories. Good to see you both again.
Yes, the video is the perfect way to experience this song. (As with other Steven Wilson videos.)
And the album has only 6 songs lol but all are epic
Thanks for the suggestion! His videos seem very popular 👍

Great call with Platypus! I definitely need to dive deeper into King's X. They have a new album coming out tomorrow that I'm excited to check out!
