Now I hope Katy Perry has a son too! This was so true. It's amazing how you took that sound and crated such a meaningful poem with such a deep meaning!
i agree with this poem right here because honestly some of katy perry's songs are just so immature (Ur So Gay, Peacock) and the song does bash someone in a very immature way for the simple fact that they didn't like her back. It's not really cool to joke about someone hanging themselves tbh so yeah i applaud sierra for this honest and great poem
I feel like there is a deeper meaning to this, she obviously feels very strong negative feelings about homophobia and needed a way to get it out, and she used Katy. Just my opinion.
It is not because someone is for gay rights that this person is not homophobic. Like it's not because someone has a black friend that this person is not racist.
It's not about her being "homophobic" because maybe she's not. But she used gay as a slur and used the song as an insult as well as making a joke about suicide. These things aren't acceptable and I'm sorry. I have nothing against Katy perry but to pretend there's nothing problematic about the way the song was presented is ignorant.
her sarcastic tone about these stereotypes proves that its not okay what Katy Perry assumes about gay men. I would hate to think that people would believe gay men wear make up ( and if they did so what). Lets not live in a world where if you act one way then you are what it is. Your style does not dictate who you are but your words can mold an image of what can't be taken back. As far as I'm concerned Sierra has a problem with people not thinking before they speak. By the way she has the first amendment to say how she feels. And SO DOES KATY PERRY.
But she didn't made fun of anyone. "Ur So Gay" song is just a song about a vain man who puts more importance onto his looks than his girlfriend. The word "gay" here is used because only gay would ponder on their looks excessively like that to ignore his girlfriend because you know why? A gay person will never love a girl romantically. And let's face it, they more self conscious than 90% of the male population, thus the usage of the word: gay. If you are offended, probably you had not understood the song well and just went on with this rage poem. If anyone had insulted of anyone, it's you. So Ironic.
Don't know Katy Perry's music very well or much about her politics but this was written several years ago and possibly there was some influence from the predominate sentiment in the industry at the time and possibly her Christan background? Maybe she has actually gotten over being influenced in that way and is actually trying to help in the positive changes.
I'm sorry I misunderstood+Crow Girl C. I thought you were implying that lgbtquia people are lesser than. Also I was simply stating that those who believe lgbtqia people are not worthy should get over it.
does she know that Katy Perry also wrote "i kissed a girl and i liked it", got banned from her christian family and still stood up for her lesbian song? lol
I think Katys song is supposed to be funny, sheesh. It says you're so gay and you don't even like boys. Its basically saying he is just vain and annoying to her and yet he isn't even gay. Its just funny. She went over the top with this too much.
Briana Lynn Read what you posted. "Its basically saying he is just vain and annoying to her and yet he isn't even gay." So being vain and annoying is hand in hand with being gay? I don't know you so I don't want to assume anything.
Shannon Maynard Well, yeah thats what my comment sounded like didn't it? I really don't think that way. I still think the song is funny and supposed to be stupid, but I see how that doesn't add up.
That song doesn't mean she's not homophobic, just like "You're So Gay" doesn't mean she IS homophobic. The point is that she used gay as a slur and wrote the song as an insult and that is the problem. She's wishing something beautiful (a child) that makes her reevaluate the things she said in that song. The way she presented it was inappropriate, that doesn't mean she is or is not homophobic.
That's NOT WHAT IT SAYS! Shut up and stop! You realize if you do this you can get A LOT of a hate! Just be quit it's 2014 now and she has wrote the song ROAR just stop before she comes at you like a dark horse !
This poem is SO hypocritical it's not even funny. It's okay for you to bash an artist whose song you took out of context and then proceed to list a bunch of stereotypical facets and characteristics about a "Gay boy". This poem could have gone somewhere completely different but you only added to the unfortunate hateful and discriminatory ignorance that our society is swollen with. As a claimed feminist, you seem to have some really twisted views. I'm really disappointed with this poem.
...She's talking more about ALL the ways in which a man can be perceived as 'effeminate' and with that 'weak'. She's not just talking about homosexuality. She's talking about the extremes of what society stigmatises in men - which includes being gay, liking 'glitter' or make up, enjoying dancing or wearing dresses or jewellery.
Not familiar with that song. Sounds like she should have stopped at "I kissed a girl..." ""And I LIKED IT!!" Strange, though, she is pro gay marriage, pro LGBT.
There's only one comment and it's negative.
How typical.
Thank you.
This is brilliant.
You are great.

THIS IS SO AMAZING

From a literary stand point I thought it was great. I wish more people actually knew poetry is more than Dr. Seuss.
i love you you're so talented and amazing! keep it up

+majinbouh Spoken with the true ignorance of privilege.

😮😮😦😦😦
lgbtpqia are people just like everyone else it is depressing to know that this is still a topic it's 2016 get over it
+Crow Girl C. What don't you want to give up? Your ignorance it's your right to keep it I suppose. Have fun trying to keep the world segregated.
I'm sorry I misunderstood+Crow Girl C. I thought you were implying that lgbtquia people are lesser than. Also I was simply stating that those who believe lgbtqia people are not worthy should get over it.
If she had a son wouldnt she name him like a guys name...the name isnt set in stone...

I would like to point out , that the album was in fact a joke. It was as serious as "I'm on a boat" by Lonely Island.
*dies laughing*
It's just a song bro.....she must hate most pop songs and sitcoms.
this is kind of weird id never heard katy sayin ANYTHING bad about anyone i think youre just being annoying
Katy isn't homophobic 😂😂 she wouldn't have sang I kissed a girl if so
That song doesn't mean she's not homophobic, just like "You're So Gay" doesn't mean she IS homophobic. Hurts..

This is good and stuff but I mean Katy is a LGBT activist and she didn't mean anything by the song.
Why would she say something she didn't mean? Yet alone make it into a song for millions of people?

I thought she was saying that he was just very feminine and that that was okay

I agree completely.
I honestly think that you miss the big point.
dude.. Did you even watch it?
What a waste of time...
THE SONG IS NOT HOMOPHOBIC, IT'S ABOUT AN EX-BOYFRIEND SHE THOUGHT WAS GAY IN A PAST LIFE. SHE IS AWESOME AND SO NOT HOMOPHOBIC
Not familiar with that song. Sounds like she should have stopped at "I kissed a girl..."
""And I LIKED IT!!"
Strange, though, she is pro gay marriage, pro LGBT.
+Jasmine Miller yeah but she also sings in that song that she feels guilty and it isn't the right thing to do at least as far as i remember
Zoe Fiedler she says that because she was in a relationship so she was cheating
