- Most fuel-injected vehicles are equipped with a mass air flow sensor, or “MAF” sensor to measure the amount and density of air entering the engine. This is information the computer uses to determine how much fuel to inject into the engine for combustion as air enters the cylinders. Ignition timing is also affected. The MAF sensor wire gets dirty with accumulated debris, oil, air filter fibers, dust and pollen. This can cause inaccurate readings and negatively affect the air to fuel ratio.
Signs of a dirty MAF sensor could be a check engine light. You may experience a loss of power, stalling, rough idle. Your engine may also be running rich and producing excess emissions. The original Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner from CRC Industries is a unique precision cleaner specifically developed to clean sensitive components in MAF sensors without damaging or degrading plastic or painted surfaces.
Use CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner with the engine off. Always wear gloves and eye protection, and insert the straw into the nozzle before an application. Remove the air filter to gain access to the MAF sensor located between the air box and the throttle body. It is recommended that you remove the sensor for best cleaning, but it’s not absolutely necessary. Place a towel under the MAF to catch any run-off. Using the straw attachment, apply 10 to 15 short bursts of CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner to the hotwire or the hot plate. Be careful not to let the straw, or anything else come in contact with hotwire. Keep the end of the straw 4 to 5 inches from the hotwire. Be sure to spray all sides of the MAF sensor and clean all wires and connectors. Reassemble the MAF and allow to dry thoroughly before restarting the engine.
Often, technicians will try to use throttle body, carburetor, or brake parts cleaners to clean sensitive MAF sensor components. However, these aggressive cleaners can be damaging to plastic, which most MAF sensors are housed in today. If the plastic degrades or warps, the MAF hotwire can shift and malfunction, resulting in expensive repairs. Use only the original Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner from CRC Industries to safely clean the delicate components of the sensor. Regular use will restore horsepower, reduce rough idle, decrease hesitation and pinging and improve gas mileage.

This helped to reduce hesitation/jumping when used to clean a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu LT MAF sensor; previously I took the vehicle to a mechanic that said they did clean the MAF sensor - obviously not - I'm am removing my 5 star review of their auto shop now.
Works Great on my 2001 F150 SuperCrew, I've used it a few times. (Only 364,000 miles.) 😉
The right product is like the right tool for the job.
And if you're a weekend mechanic, it'll last for a long time.
Godspeed everyone. 🙂
Good video but that background music is unnecessary and too loud!
Da, da, naaa, da, da..🎶🎼
Good product, I only use it if the car is already running rough. Don’t use this if the engine is already running smooth, sometimes you can make it worse.
Audi tt, cleaned maf and did get a slight reduction in idle as well as it did seem to help with acceleration slightly in drive. Not an astounding difference but worth the 12 dollar investiment.
Well, it seems to work very well indeed, except I found it impossible to insert the straw into the spray head.
Same. Almost gave up after spraying myself in the face. It doesn't taste good at all.
I had to give up on it! Two sprays and fell out every time! That's all I needed, losing that thing in the front end somewhere, causing some other problem (Murphy's Law!)
Right?
I ALMOST gave up but somehow I managed to push it in
Did my f 250 and my K n N filter. 45 minutes in 90 degree heat.
That MAF is MF clean yo
so the MAF in the MK5 Jetta (TDI) look a lot different... it works the same though right? I dont think I have dorect vision of the hot wire... so just spray one side, then the other?
Wait you spray the connection too?😳
I change oily air filters in late model Chevy's quite bit. I'm always wondering why the maf keeps going out. Now i know....
I need to know how to clean my MAF sensor but this dudes dreamy eyes 😂
Hi can I use this cleaner to 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer ES
Can else can I clean with the left over cleaner ?
Its said do not use in mitsubishi cars?
I noticed you said to spray the connecting wires and the plug. I just cleaned my MAF Sensor and Throttle Body, but failed to spray any wires or connectors, didn't even consider it. This won't short out any wires and cause problems?
Okay got it, I almost did it, but had some exposed wires so I just wiped it with a rag with no spray. Also, I noticed the inside of my intake was dirty when taking it off to clean the Throttle Body. Am I able to use the MAF Sensor Cleaner or Throttle Body Cleaner on the plastic intake?
Would this cleaner be suitable for MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor as well? This is on a Prius if it matters.
MAP sensor needs electric contact cleaner instead.
It says not to use this on most Lexus cars, but I've heard from some owners that this is ok to use on a Lexus IS300, is this true?
I have a stock 2001 Lexus IS300, automatic, not turbo.
Will this harm carbon fiber?
Gonna try cleaning my MAF sensor with this stuff. I’m over 122k miles so I’m pretty it’s dirty
"Over 122k" you ain't seen nothing mate xD
@@miljororforsprakpartiet290 Right...lol...275k. I saw the one side of mine and it wasn't "too bad", but you know that backside is going to be YIKES when I take it off later. Oof.
Wil this work on a 2001 Suzuki grand vitara xl7
good material but wrong method or wrong parts cleaned in the video. Look inside in it. Thanks, like your products.
I got a p0101 code on my check engine light, I replaced the MAF sensor with AutoZone part then got a p0171 code engine running lean, I cleaned the original sensor and reinstalled it the check engine light went away!
How often should it be used on a gdi turbo engined car mainly driven short distances.
Every year. During oil service
Can this be used for the toyota hilux vigo 2014?
It says do not use in mitsubishi cars.
What kind of maf sensor cleaner i should i use for a mitsubishi lancer 2009?
Ones that are made for cleaning a MAS
I accidentally sprayed throttle body and air intake cleaner on my maf sensor thinking I had the mass airflow cleaner can. Will that ruin my maf sensor?
yep
Hi can we use crc maf cleaner on hyundai MAP sensor?
Thank you for your comment. Yes you can use this product to clean your MAP sensor.
Can CRC QD Electronic Cleaner be substituted for MAF cleaner? Looking at the ingredients, it's nearly the same stuff. And a few mechanics have said it's fine.
Thank you for your comment. The formulas are similar. However our QD is a stronger formula over the MAF. They are both plastic safe and fast evaporating. We do not recommend using QD to clean an MAF since MAF’s are very sensitive.
@@CRCAutoUS so if you use qd electronic cleaner instead of 10-15 sprays use 5-8 sprays because its stronger?
@@jvirg funny how they didn't respond. This is a little bit of a game
How long should you let it dry before turn the car back on
Thank you for you comment. It dries quickly. You can wait a few minutes and then you should see it dry.
Can I use this product on a 2006 Acura TL
CRCAuto 3.2 L v6
I didn’t know you can spray the electrical terminals also. I have never did that.
It's electrical cleaner mate so i think you could use as well on sticking switch's and stuff like that
@@drewsmith6066 why not just use the automotive electrical cleaner. I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff except half the price. It says the exact same thing on the can that it leaves no residue. What's so special about this other than brand name?
@@jvirg I'm going to guess potentially no difference. Would have to check each can and see what the ingredients are but it's likely *very* similar if not identical.
I've had a few different brands, purchased upon recommendation, and they're always the same stuff. 😆
Make It Smoother.
Hello. My MAF needs cleaning. Can I use the MAF cleaner on the MAF wires(inside maf) and also spray it on the built in connector and the electrical spray (crc) to spray the connector that goes onto the MAF? Thanks.
thats literally what he did in the video lol
I accidentally used the throttle body cleaner onto the maf sensor but right away used the maf sensor cleaner. I hope it doesn’t cause it problems
😂😂😂 it gonna cause problems
05 pt is that the sensor in THE intake tube then 🤔?

CRC Auto thanks for the reply... Great only have to buy one thing 👏

Would this work on 02 oxygen sensors
Thank you for your comment. We would recommend our QD cleaner for this application www.crcindustries.com/products/qd-174-electronic-cleaner-11-wt-oz-05103.html
@@CRCAutoUS What is the major difference between MAF cleaner and Contact cleaner?
MAF cleaner is significantly cheaper in my area and it wasn't exclusively used to clean the sensor in the video so what is the major difference?
I rebuild vintage RCs and I'm hesitant to use MAF cleaner on motors but so far it's been just fine on circuits. Thanks.
Its 2.0 engine 2009 lancer
Can any of you PLEASE tell me what the LONG TERM affect would be of driving a 1993

Can I use CRC MAF cleaner to grease my hair too ?
Only if you cover it with a Buggenhaut, Buggenhaut. In that case use an entire can, and be sure to fill each ear. That will grow hair on your chest, to match the hair in your teeth.
Lol I use breaks part cleaner for everything
Don't waste your money on " MAF CLEANER" ! brake cleaner is the same thing, carb cleaner leaves residue and dries slower.
Why take the chance of ruining the sensor .CRC is a great quality product and is used by professionals.Spend the $7 and you will have enough for cleaning sensor many times .
