Nice comparison, there is indeed a difference in the formulation, but the polystyrene cup isn't really showing anything. All the plastics used for engine components are immune to the solvent in regular carb cleaner, and it can be used just fine. Reminder that gasoline will also dissolve a polystyrene cup. Will pouring gasoline all over the plastics of your engine melt or damage them? Imagine the scandal if that would be the case.
There is even a more important difference between them and that is one is meant to leave a residue behind (Carb Cleaner) & the other not to leave a residue (MAF Cleaner) because the residue would affect the readings of the MAF working correctly.
glad i saw this, my question though is. if you leave in a place where you cant find a mass air flow cleaner, is there an alternative product that is easily available that can be used for the same purpose?
This video is the answer to some guys here in YT which spray their MAF sensor with any kind of spray you can imagine except the proper one. Thank you for the demonstration sir, best regards from Greece.
For most independent contractors and even most dealer ship they use crc throttle bottle for basically every thing lol. Even use it to spray mass flow air sensor. For home user they buy different types like crc mass air flow cleaner for electronics components/ air flow sensors.
Deja vu! Good explaination. Can we maybe also throw throttle body cleaner, and intake valve cleaner, in there? AKA explain ALL the various awesome CRC stuff that gets sprayed down intakes! Great presentation, just want more.
First of all, these parts are not polystyrene, and secondly carb cleaner, or anything like it, evaporates long before it does any harm. I use electronic parts cleaner for everything. The only reason to have all these different products is if you're a CRC stock holder.
Can you do a video on using CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner as a safer alternative than standard carburetor spray cleaners, for (the newer, black) plastic Briggs and Stratton carburetors - or maybe something like CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner, as another safer, secondary alternative . . . or maybe even on comparatively, which of the two would be the better / safer alternative, and why? Seems like no one else has done this yet. Thanks, in advance. PS: Don't know if you'd be interested in this or not, but I'm strongly considering / leaning toward the possibility of purchasing a Toro Recycler 21-in Gas Self-propelled Lawn Mower with 140-cc Briggs and Stratton Engine, Model # 21321, and have been doing tons of research, being brand new to this, and all. Am very "OCD-ish" and aware of what folks share about this mower, as far as the various opinions, positive and negative, but've pretty much made my mind up. That's how I learned about the necessity of being careful with which carb cleaners to use on which carburetors, etc., but still have more research to do. That being said, I also did an "AI" search related to the above referenced cleaners, and thought you might find the following results interesting (?) for helping you w/your new video on this, if &/or when you do one : "Evaluation of CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner and CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner" ref., iask.ai/?mode=question&options%5bdetail_level%5d=detailed&q=Are+CRC+Mass+Air+Flow+Sensor+Cleaner+and+CRC+05103+QD+Electronic+Cleaner+amongst+the+very+best+and+very+safest+of+carburetor+cleaners%2C+for+plastic+carburetors+and+their+component+parts%2C+like+rubber+gaskets+and+O-rings+-+such+as+those+found+on+the+Toro+Recycler+21-in+Gas+Self-propelled+Lawn+Mower+with+140-cc+Briggs+and+Stratton+Engine+-+when+compared+against+all+other+available+carburetor+cleaners%3B+and+if+so%2Cwhy%3F "Comparison of CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner and CRC 05103 QD Electronic Cleaner for Use on Plastic Carburetors and Components" ref., iask.ai/?mode=question&q=Comparing+CRC+Mass+Air+Flow+Sensor+Cleaner+and+CRC+05103+QD+Electronic+Cleaner%2C+which+of+the+two+is+very+best+and+very+safest%2C+for+plastic+carburetors+and+their+component+parts%2C+like+rubber+gaskets+and+O-rings+-+such+as+those+found+on+the+Toro+Recycler+21-in+Gas+Self-propelled+Lawn+Mower+with+140-cc+Briggs+and+Stratton+Engine+-+and+why%3F Peace : )
Welp.. Glad I watched this video. I was about to wing it and Unknownlgly melt plastic components under the hood of my car. As a gesture of my gratitude. I would like to give you a digital 👊🏿 and a 🍺. Peace
For what I believe they are different from one another but they are both cleaners, designed and engineered according to each and every car/Engines Manufacturer's Specifications and Recommendations. I've been using only just 1 brand for many years that's CRC brand. I never had any Lean or Rich fuel problems on all of my Gasoline Vehicles, I clean MAF sensors every 3 months or 4 times in a year. Sames goes to Throttle body whenever I clean or replace Air Filters I also clean the throttle body and the MAF sensors with the specific Cleaner. Sometimes they don't work because you have some other issues such as the ECM module needs to be Re-Calibrated or Re-Evaluated meaning Tuning it to give it more Fuel. Or perhaps maybe the throttle body is defective is and it is not functioning the way it is! Or maybe the Fuel Injectors are defective and needs to replace so the cleaner doesn't work no matter how many times you clean the MAF or Throttle body because the fuel injector is screwed up. Or maybe the Sparkplugs needs replacements.
Interesting that folks dismiss the validity of the test simply because the MAF has no styrene, or because you don't soak it. The point is that carb cleaner can or will damage the plastic found on modern MAF sensors.
You dont spray mass air meters with the engine running/ key on. If you do it can ruin the meter. After spraying let it air dry well several minutes before starting the engine, or the meter could be ruined. A few extra bucks for the right priduct is cheaper than $100 for a new sensor.
In theory, probably yes, but in reality, the carb cleaner evaporates quite fast (not like a cup) and the ABS plastic is much stronger than a foam plastic.
Using a flammable solvent is a way to detect vacuum leaks but could be dangerous to spray near and on a hot running engine. We would recommend contacting CRC Industries to see what they have available for this application.
Be careful with any petroleum-based plastics, vinyls, rubbers, etc. with carb cleaner. Best to stay away from carb cleaner on anything but metal, and stick with the grey can for anything soft.
"MAF cleaner is designed to clean petroleum byproducts...". How would petroleum byproducts get into the MAF? Wouldn't the contaminate be dust that gets through the air filter?
I doubt if spraying down a plastic engine part with good old fashioned carb cleaner is going to do any harm. It eveporates almost instantly. If on the other hand you're a guy that likes to make deep puddles of the stuff on top of your plastic engine then this product is for you.
Yes... But who would let their MAF sensor get soaked for few minutes? The best people do is spray and wipe... Although I agree not to use repeatedly...
This is beyond the dumbest test i have every seen, you are not gonna let a maf sensor sit submurged in carb cleaner, plus that cup is not by far made of the same plastics that the casing of the maf sensor is made of. I have cleaned countless maf sensors with carb cleaner with no damage to them period. Clean with carb cleaner and blow with air and it'll be fine. I am a ASE certified mechanic and have been for over 30 years and have never had any issues using carb cleaner on a maf sensor. Your test is like comparing apples to steak meat( cup plastic vs maf sensor casing)....GTFOH with that BS.
Yeah, actually MAF sensors were introduced many years before the "CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner" was even invented. What did mechanics use before the invention of the CFC stuff to clean the sensors?
If plastic is the only limiting factor then we can just use alcohol? Cuz all alcohol is safe on all plastics. Probably a 75% alcohol and 25% distilled water is probably best
Nice comparison, there is indeed a difference in the formulation, but the polystyrene cup isn't really showing anything. Absolutely true! Also, when we are clianing we spay only for few seconds and then dry it with towel. So no issue to use card cleaners

Not gonna lie, until I first did this demo, I used whatever can was closest on everything. This really changed my habits.
Promotion aside, I very much appreciate and enjoyed this video. Thanks for what y'all do and great job to the guy doing the demo and explanation.
Major crc maf cleaner shortage here in KCMO. I cleaned mine with carb cleaner. Got lucky. 2 months later and seems fine
For most independent contractors and even most dealer ship they use crc throttle bottle for basically every thing lol. Even use it to spray mass flow air sensor. For home user they buy different types like crc mass air flow cleaner for electronics components/ air flow sensors.
throttle bodies are usually some type of "teflon/plastic" coated
Deja vu! Good explaination.
Can we maybe also throw throttle body cleaner, and intake valve cleaner, in there? AKA explain ALL the various awesome CRC stuff that gets sprayed down intakes! Great presentation, just want more.
Glad you liked the video! We have more CRC videos in production so keep an eye out.

Nice. I was wondering if i can use maf sensor cleaner for starter fluid.

Wondering if you can use CRC electronics spray cleaner in place of CRC MAF sensor spray cleaner. both say they will not leave a residue.
Welp.. Glad I watched this video. I was about to wing it and Unknownlgly melt plastic components under the hood of my car. As a gesture of my gratitude. I would like to give you a digital 👊🏿 and a 🍺. Peace
What is that brown thing!!
What about electronic contact cleaner. Is it okay for cleaning maf airflow sensor ?
I was wondering the same...?
Can I use CRC Maf sensor cleaner to clean Throtle body? thanks
For what I believe they are different from one another but they are both cleaners, designed and engineered according to each and every car/Engines Manufacturer's Specifications and Recommendations. thanks for that. It reminded me of cleaning bushings that were made of rubber in diesel. those bushings swelled up and were useless, i ruined them lol
Can i use the mass airflow cleaner to clean the throttle body?

I love your energy. thanks for the explanation! about to clean my throttle body with carb cleaner and just wanted to make sure of any harmful effects.

Can mass airflow cleaner remove oil buildup around the valve covers gasket?
Can you clean the MAP sensor on an 88 Ford Thunderbird (5.0 engine)
Can I use MAF or THROTTLE body cleaner to diagnose vacuum leaks?
what would you recommend to spray to find a vacum leak. People have told me to use carb cleaner. 2002 chevy., lots of plastic under the hood.
Using a flammable solvent is a way to detect vacuum leaks but could be dangerous to spray near and on a hot running engine. We would recommend contacting CRC Industries to see what they have available for this application.
Brilliant demonstration! 👌🏼
Thank you for explaining to us
Thanks for the information and excellent illustration, Grassroots! 🙂
Remember that God loves ❤ you !
Maf cleaner for injectors??? good idea?
can I use Mass Air Flow cleaner to clean IAC?
Yes
Thank you for this video!!! Good to know there is a good difference!!
Glad it was helpful!
Air flow sensor cleaner is very look like to fast thinner.
Is it ok if I use fast thinner instead?
Thats Brilliant just what I wanted know.. Thanks
Why two different colour cups for a fair test?
Is it me or does the voice representing CRC industries, at the end of the video sound EXACTLY like Jason from Engineering Explained?
Can I use carb cleaner on maf or map directly in the sensor peace not the plastic if I’m on the side of the road
ALL DAY LONG YOU CAN SPRAY THE PLASTIC DONT WORRY. THIS IS ABSOLUTE BULLSHIT. HAHHAHA CARB CLEAN EVAPORATES WAY WAY BEFORE ANY DAMAGE IS CAUSED
This Very good information to know. Thank you.
Will rubber be ok like an o-ring will it be ok with a carb cleaner?
Be careful with any petroleum-based plastics, vinyls, rubbers, etc. with carb cleaner. Best to stay away from carb cleaner on anything but metal, and stick with the grey can for anything soft.
What's an alternative to maf cleaner?
Carb cleaner. The plastics in a modern engine can handle solvents like these just fine. They're not made of polystyrene :P
Ok .im convinced
However, there's a saying..
"It's better than Nothing"
The metallic porpuses..
That product is sometimes very difficult to find.
"MAF cleaner is designed to clean petroleum byproducts...". How would petroleum byproducts get into the MAF? Wouldn't the contaminate be dust that gets through the air filter?
Whats the alternative for maf cleaner where i live in a area without maf cleaner??
Amazon
Can you tell me the difference between "CRC QD electric cleaner" and "CRC MAF cleaner"?
Is MAF cleaner compatible with cleaning electronics components?
Difference is +50% higher price for stupid people.
I doubt if spraying down a plastic engine part with good old fashioned carb cleaner is going to do any harm. It eveporates almost instantly. If on the other hand you're a guy that likes to make deep puddles of the stuff on top of your plastic engine then this product is for you.
Or my god, thanks for explanation

greatBUT couldya just have no background percussive irritating non-music? please?
Isn't this just electrical contact cleaner basically?
no
What about electric contact cleaner?
Pretty sure thats the same as brake cleaner
It must be very hot in that shop :D
Carb cleaner can solve the plastic garbage problem.
But I'm not going to soak the component, I'm only spraying and and it will be dissipating gone. So dont soak it in a cup or container. 20$ vs. 3$
Brake cleaner, my next best customer, next to alcohol .....
I use brake cleaner. No residue.
Nice magic trick.
has anyone tried this themself?
MAF cleaner Good wasp killer lol 💯
What a joke
